Cadillac
Cadillac, founded in 1902 in Detroit, quickly gained a reputation for precision and innovation, becoming a leader in American luxury vehicles. Acquired by General Motors in 1909, it set standards with iconic models like the Eldorado and DeVille. Though it faced challenges in the modern era, Cadillac has reinvented itself with bold design and a shift toward electric vehicles, now leading GM’s luxury EV efforts with models like the Lyriq and Celestiq.

So, how is this for unusual. The Cadillac SRX has won Car and Drivers Luxury Sport Utility of the year for the 3rd consecutive year. How odd is that. The magazine that has been accused of being anti-domestic for years gives the award to the SRX. And instead of the SRX being a market success it is wallowing around on dealer lots, not coming anywhere near hoped for sales predictions. It seems GM just can't seem to win for trying.

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/car/09...6_awd-road_test 2010 Cadillac SRX 3.0 V6 AWD - Road Test Downsizing trims the sticker, but there’s another price to pay. BY JOHN PHILLIPS, PHOTOGRAPHY BY TOM DREW AND THE MANUFACTURERS July 2009 As GM wobbled toward bankruptcy, the company’s boosters often cited Cadillac as proof that at least one division knew the secret for success. But stroll through a Cadillac showroom. The DTS isn’t even on your Uncle Marvin’s radar. The pretty but aging STS has been nudged onto the berm by at least five luxo-sports sedans, none from America. The angular XLR, a marketing spinoff from the Corvette shop, has been euthanized. The…

From Edmunds: Survey: Wealthy Buyers Give Top Marks to Cadillac NEW YORK — Cadillac beat out Lexus and Acura to win top honors in 2007 for the best customer experience in a new online poll of wealthy American consumers with a minimum household income of $150,000. The Luxury Institute survey lauded the GM brand for "excellent" dealership experience and "friendly service." Lexus and Acura placed second and third. The independent Luxury Institute describes itself as the "voice of the high-net-worth consumer." What this means to you: Domestic luxury brands such as Cadillac are beginning to win over the fussiest — and wealthiest — buyers. Click Here

2006 Cadillac STS-V Driven to thrill. by Paul A. Eisenstein (2006-04-10) Few stories we've ever run on TheCarConnection.com have ever generated as much reader feedback as our original scoop on the formation of Cadillac's performance-based V-Series. The general response, other than a few cranky skeptics, was "about time." The first offering in the line-up was the CTS-V, appropriate enough considering the base sedan ushered in Caddy's edgy Art & Science styling theme, setting in motion one of the most significant, design-driven turnarounds in domestic automotive history. Now, the luxury maker is readying two more V-Series offerings, the XLR-V, which we reviewed …

2007 Cadillac Escalade Bigger, better and blingier. by Paul A. Eisenstein (2006-03-27) Climbing into the new 2007 Cadillac Escalade, I get the feeling that I am seriously underdressed. No gold chains, no diamond stud in my ear. And my raggy jeans definitely would not pass muster on MTV. Ever since the first 'Slade hit the streets, back in 1999, this massive SUV has proven the product of choice among rappers and rock stars. And if the looks we got tooling around San Diego during Caddy's recent preview were any indication, the new '07 model is likely to maintain its image as the king of all bling. To be honest, I never quite understood the appeal of the original Esca…

2006 Cadillac XLR-V Pushing the lmits? by Paul A. Eisenstein (2006-03-20) If there's been any bright spot for troubled General Motors in recent years, it's the nascent revival of the automaker's once-formidable Cadillac Division. There was a time, not that many decades ago, when Caddy called the shots in the luxury market, but in recent years, the "Standard to the World" has had to take a back seat to more posh import contenders, like Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Yet with the introduction of its edgy "Art & Science" styling theme, Cadillac showed that it might be down, but it certainly wasn't out. Though it's by no means a world-beater, the first production mod…

Yeah, you want to be me. j/k :P I stopped by Dimmitt Cadillac in Clearwater today to see if they had and literature on the '06 DTS. Better than taht, they had a black one out front. Cool. I go in and ask around and, well, they've got the car, but no brochures yet; they're on order. However, the man and woman in the lobby directed me to a young lady who offered to show me the car. Uh, sure! So, my early impression of it is that I really do like it. The redone front and rear clips make the DTS look smaller than the '05 even though its an inch bigger. No uneven gaps, nice soft-touch materials, and the Northstar purrs like a kitten. So, we're …

Doing this as a poll would have been tough, so let's go verbal on this one. Best looking: I am stunned by what a good-looking car the DTS has become, with almost all vantage points being very attractive. And, no, it has nothing to do with being older now...I would have loved it as a 22-year old. It's just well done. Worst looking: I think the XLR is hideous. I was at a light behind one a couple of months ago and the table-top deck lid with its ugly squarish lights reminded me of a mid-90s Achieva (remember those?) Other comments: The SUV/wagon (acronym please?) has some nice crisp edges. The CTS has nice proportions, overall, but I don't like how tall the dash f…

I seem to notice the DTSs on the road. To me, they look particularly good in lighter mettalic colors - silver, ice blue, seafoam green...those types of colors. I am really impressed that, overall, Cadillac has put out good-looking cars for at least 5 years now. The DTS is my favorite by a wide margin. The styling is nicely proportioned and will withstand the test of time. I think that angular styling will always win over bulbuous/rounded styling over the long-haul. It's for that reason that I don't like any of the "rounded" cars (Enclave, Charger, Dodge trucks, etc). Look how Americans still long for the cars with classic angular looks (the Cutlasses of the 70s a…

General Motors has recently been in the habit of releasing vehicles in China before bringing them to the U.S. Buick released the Envista in China back in September of 2022 but waited until just a few weeks ago to announce the Envista for the U.S. Similar patterns have happened with the Cadillac XT4 and Buick Encore GX. We suspect the same thing is happening here with the Cadillac GT4 that debuted Monday in China. What is it? The Cadillac GT4 is essentially a slightly fastback version of the Cadillac XT4. While decidedly less "coupe" shaped than the Buick Envista, the GT4 stretches the vehicle's look and gives it a more low-slung side profile. The interior …

Cadillac: Small crossover is coming, but no small car Automotive News / August 21, 2006 - 6:00 am BLS: The next generation of the small sedan (on sale in Europe since April) had been under consideration as an entry-level convertible and coupe in the United States, positioned below the CTS. But it turns out the "baby Cadillac" will have no future here. The vehicle's price would be too close to the larger CTS. The BLS is assembled in Trollhattan, Sweden, on the front-wheel-drive Epsilon platform it shares with the Saab 9-3. A station wagon is expected to be added in Europe in mid-2007. CTS: The CTS will be restyled and re-engineered for the 2008 model year. The hig…

I posted this in here because Cadillac is one of the few GM brands with HUD, but if a moderator thinks it will fit somewhere else better feel free to move it :) Why are we seeing no new GM cars with available Head-Up Display? With the demise of the Park Avenue, LeSabre, and [imminent demise of] Rendezvous, Buick will no longer feature a car with the unique technology. When the Bonneville got axed, that left the Grand Prix being the soul vehicle in that lineup that offers HUD. GM obviously sees the benefit of the technology because its offered or standard on the Corvette and XLR. Are buyers going to have to fork out $50k+ for a vehicle to be offered head-up displ…

When the Maharaja of Orchha desired bespoke bodywork for his new Cadillac V-16 chassis, he did what most fashion-conscious royal family members do: He went shopping in Europe. It was 1931, and France was in its heyday as the provider of haute couture bodywork for the bare running chassis one could purchase from the likes of Duesenberg, Bugatti, and yes, Cadillac. But instead of sampling the goods at Figoni et Falaschi or Franay, the Maharaja chose to engage the talents of a young Italian designer/coachbuilder named Battista Farina. Carrozzeria Farina was founded just a year earlier, but already, Farina's talents were being spoken of in glowing terms. The one-off Cadil…

The Never Ending Story: More Rumors With The Cadillac Flagships William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 26, 2011 Cadillac has been dreaming about building a flagship sedan for the longest time, going as far to build the Sixteen concept in 2003. Rumors since then about the flagship Cadillac have only grown ranging from a production version of the Sixteen to a S-Class/7-Series/A8 fighter. Now, Car & Driver sheds some light on some new rumors on two flagships from the crest and wreath. Rumor #1 deals with the S-Class/7-Series/A8 fighter. Third Time's The Charm? Cadillac Returns To Europe William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 22, 2011 Cadillac and Europe haven't been the best of friends. The past two times Cadillac has sold vehicles in Europe, sales have come up short and the lineup offered didn't exactly meet Europe's demands. Now, Cadillac is hoping its third try into the European market is a success. “The only thing you can do is try, try and try again with Cadillac in Europe,” said GM CEO Dan Akerson. The CTS will take the lead while the upcoming XTS and ATS will follow afterward. The big question is will Cadillac offer a diesel engine option? Jeff Lux, Opel Vauxh…

Posted 10/5/2005 7:09 PM Satellite television for vehicles a growing fad USA Today article By Dee-Ann Durbin, The Associated Press DETROIT — As their average commute time rises, Americans are making their vehicles increasingly homelike, with cushy seats, multiple zones of climate control and DVD players. GM: Turbocharged four for the CTS? Only if customers want it. Jul 30th 2008 3:58PM Link to topic on Autoblog "We're ready. When (customers) want it (the option of smaller engines) - we'll do it." That's a (somewhat mangled) quote from Thomas G. Stephens, GM's executive veep for global powertrain and quality, speaking at the inauguration of the General's Powertrain Engineering Development Center last Friday. What Stephens is referring to is the possibility of equipping Cadillacs with smaller, turbocharged engines – specifically fitting the 260-hp (or more) 2.0-liter, turbocharged four in the CTS sedan. Sounds like a Hell of an idea, but how – exactly – is GM going …

Today I saw a white 63-64 Caddy ragtop, looked to be pretty straight and clean as we passed each other in opposite directions. Love those years, my folks had a 64 CDV, white of course. The other one was a head-scratcher: it was a new DTS IIRC (the newest sedan, not the STS or CTS), but it was a convertible. Not a fake one, but a real one. How do I know? It had NO TOP! It was the real deal, a four-door convertible. This was near Naperville, IL, FWIW, I can't remember what Caddy dealer is around there, but it had to be a one-off, right? It was a dark color, maybe a deep red. Thoughts?

I was thoroughly surprised when I came to read this and read the results and I think it is the best looking of the group and it sounds like it(and all new Cadillacs) have been nailing the driving portion of the car. But a major bummer on the interior and yet again CUE. How long will it take them to sort that out??? I'd love to be a product manager for Cadillac. IF they have the engineering resources, then they should definitely launch an assault with a wide range of vehicles off the stellar Sigma platform instead of the upcoming Zeta platform. Keep the Sigma platform exclusive to Cadillacs and use the Zeta platform for the mainstream brands (Holden, Chevy, Pontiac, & Buick). Instead of calling the CTS-based coupe, the CTC, they should call it the CSC for C-series Sport Coupe and CSW for C-series Sport Wagon. Do the same thing with the BLS-based coupe and call it the BSC for B-series Sport Coupe? How's that sound? Personally, I don't think a B-series range fits in with Cad…

Since "Dare Greatly" is the current ad campaign, I thought it would be a good idea for everyone to come up with one thing they dare Cadillac to do. It can be anything, it could be to put the Sixteen intro production, to make a pure EV Tesla fighter, a mid-engine supercar, to changing the naming scheme to introducing a new marketing campaign, or anything you want. But you only get 1 Dare, people can up vote their favorite idea.

No one is prouder of the turn around that Cadillac has made than I am. Hell I even drive an Allante But what I want to know is, what is next for Cadillac after the Escalade redo this year? Is it a new CTS? SRX? New models? What? I do not want Caddy to fall into neglect, while GM is trying to right the rest of the ship. I figure they are good for the next year to 18 months, but after that they will need to keep the block busters coming. The SRX (Which I also own) is beginning to fall behind, the CTS line was never expanded and the Northstar needs to continue to be improved.

What is happening next with it? Will there be a MCE or is a redesign the next thing in store for it? I think it would be great it they put a front end more like the Evoq on it. I think it still fits very well with Cadillac's design language even though its 8 years old. The grill just needs more detailing like the new CTS. Obviously take away the night vision eye as Cadillac no longer offers that (they should though...). Just some thoughts. What does everyone else think would be good for it. . . or does anyone actually have information on it?

For me, ATS. CTS is hot, but there are a few overly exaggerated bits to it. ATS is clean all the way through. Like the XTS but it's too narrow. New Escalade is sharp but a little boxy. ELR is a bit cab forward. ATS is the sweet spot.

I'm not sure how many of what color Escalades you guys are seeing, but thus far, all that I've spotted on the road have been black, dark grey, or dark red. When the local Cadillac dealer got in its first 4 'Slades, there were two black and two dark grey, and all were gone within probably two weeks. Now, they've had the same 3 white and 1 gold Escalade sitting there for going on 4 weeks. Are the lighter color Escalades not as popular because they don't show off the chromy bits as well? Anyone else noticed this trend?

With all the talk of GM division crossover, I've always said that Cadillac wouldn't have to worry about the likes of Buick stepping on their heels if they were aiming at the right competitors. Apparently one of their should be competitors is feeling the heat from the new CTS, their new baby car sure looks a lot like it in design characteristics. You can bet that the interior of this will be a level for Cadillac to envy though. Link To Leftlane Article

with the new tt coming out, bmw with their z4 and mercedes with their small sports coupe, why shouldn't caddy fill a gap in their line up with a kappa car of their own... i'm no good at photoshop but it's not hard to imagine. they would have to add some new caddy style like the vents from the cts and they should keep it a soft top but stretch it a bit or redesign it a little to give it a bit more useable trunk space. either two turbo models or take the new line of v6s from the cts. just take the front and back from the 16 and put it on a sky. even the front of the 16 has a lower grill for the intercooler for the turbo: i would also like to see the xlr get mo…

I believe the XLR is not going to be restyled any time soon, but what would be your take on the styling direction? Angular, as in an evolution of the Evoq-like styling, or a smoother Sixteen-like approach?

wandered into Slessor the other day. They have a black XLR-V and Silver Escalade in the showroom. I can't imagine there are many buyers for the XLR-V in the Newmarket area. They had a red CTS-V on the lot for 8 months last year.

Checked out a real live XTS at a d'ship today. It was locked and had a 21 day on it, I assume it was left on the lot over the weekend to show off. Here is my impression on the design in the real world. Very nice. There is some subtle complexities to the shape and details on this vehicle that come together in person. It is amazing how narrow the car is in actuality, and how tiny the ass end looks from seeing it directly behind. Overall there is really not any element of the exterior I dislike (aside from suggesting that the car looks narrow). It's an evolutionary look, nothing special, but it also has no hood and no deck and to evolve proportions in that regard, and…

clicky Actually doesn't look bad. Love the wheels. This clearly isn't going after the blue hair DTS crowd.
