I'll have the opportunity to take one for a drive in a couple weeks and was wondering what information you guys would like to know when I test it out. I've never driven a Corvette, nor have I ever driven in a Corvette, but since this is one of the cars I would love to own in the near future (although base car, not GS), I am very excited to take this opportunity and answer any questions you might have that I can!

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Town officials in Framingham are trying to strike out a problem. A replicated Fenway Park in a Framingham yard is causing quite a stir. Ryan O'Connor, 18, the teen who built it, and his family are now going to bat for their ballpark. The miniature Fenway Park used as a wiffle ball field is adorned with signs, including a three-by-four foot Mobil sign in centerfield. "I don't know why anyone would complain; it's not a bad field of a public nuisance at all, and the Mobil sign, I mean we're not trying to be a gas station, we just want to have some fun in the summer," O'Connor said. But seems not everyone's a fan. Complaints from neighbors hav…

There's been some interest in dropping a turbo into the 2.0 Litre Holden 4-banger, as far as going with an option that's been tried and true for over a decade with this engine; however, I think I found a better option. 108,920 HP @ 102 RPM 5,608,312 LB/ft of torque @ 102 RPM While the 14-cylinder does drink 1,660 gallons of heavy fuel oil per hour, I think I can be a little lighter on the throttle to help that. That's the inline 12-cylinder model. I might need to beef up the front suspension a tad to carry the weight. Info here: http://www.bath.ac.uk/~ccsshb/12cyl/ You think the guys at Jiffy Lube are going to hate me when I pull in with this thing (under?) the h…

The shop I work at will close on May 30th permanently after many decades in business and an excellent reputation earned well before I was born, due to lack of business. I was just promoted to co-manager in February. We were all caught off-guard. Not sure what to do next, I've called several people I know in the business to put out feelers. Hopefully something will come my way soon. When I first started there in 2006, there were 14 bodyshop employees. We're ending up with 9.

Another favorite of mine is the Albizia Julibrissin (Japanese Mimosa or Silk Tree). It is the main attraction of my front lawn in summer. The Albizia Julibrissin with its delicately scented flowers is an attractive exotic plant for the garden. Long stamen make the flowers look like a pink powder puff. Also, the pinnately (feather-like) divided leaves add to the elegant appearance of the tree. At night or in case of drought the leaves fold together (hence its common name ‘sleeping tree’ in some languages), by day they unfold again and offer a shady place to relax.

Yesterday I was driving, approaching an intersection. I had the green light. A Mitsu Galant approached from my right at the intersection, at the red light, pulling up past the white line. I noticed she had a cell phone to her left ear. She gave a quick glance my way, then pulled out right in front of me (requiring me to brake pretty hard to avoid hitting her stupid ass). She then got into the left lane beside me, in the right lane. I saw an opportunity. Her right side front window was down half way. I gunned the Sierra, pulled up next to her, rolled my window down and yelled "GET OFF THE PHONE AND DRIVE, BITCH!" She responded with a smug glance and a middle fin…

Yeah, its that time of year again. We get a couple of days in the 60's with some nice sun and suddenly I'm jonesing for an open top. I checked Craigslist and found a LeBaron for $950 and a Sebring for $1100. Ebay reveals a couple SuperBeetle convertibles that would be fantastic, even if they need some work. Alas, I shant be getting one anytime soon.

I've learned I love junkyards. About 2 weeks ago, the theater dimming on the dash on the '92 Regal went on the fritz. I walked into Borders one evening, had coffee for an hour, and came back to see that the dash lights were STILL ON. I had to pull the panel fuse every time I left the car at night. I contacted a couple of Buick parts departments and they told me the dimming feature and the "lights-stay-on for 30 seconds after shutting door" was in the expensive light switch...a light switch costing over $ 300!!! I had to go to Portland over Columbus Day, so I found several old Regals at several pick-n-pulls. Swtiches were generically priced at under $ 10. I just inst…

Great weather for the show today - cool, crisp, and sunny. Took the '38 Dodge for what will likely be its last outing of 2008. Over 600 cars this year, the oldest of which was a 1904 Cadillac (no pic). I only took a few pics due to lots of looking around and BSing. And Imageshack seems to be on the rag tonight, so some are missing. (I'll try to add them) Enjoy:

Well guys, I've thought about it. And quite frankly I'm tired of changing the oil in the driveway and doing brake jobs and such on the back parking pad. I'm building a shop! I'm thinking 40ftx40ft devided down the middle to give me two 20ftx40ft bays. In one bay, I'm going to put a 12,000-lb two post lift, in bay two flat floor. Air and electrical outlets in both bays, full plumbing and heating and air. I'm going to put work benches along the exterior and joining walls in both bays. In bay 2, I'm going to also put welding equipment (probably a MiG/TiG and a stick welder) along with my oxy-acetelene torches and bottles. Both bays will have overhead heavy winches to…

Clicky I know this evokes a reaction from most of you, but if this were a year old and black, this would be just like my father's bought-new 1987 Trofeo, the very first car I remember (and the first car I 'drove' - on my dad's lap, of course!). Same digital 'gages', same throttle shifter. Ours had a moonroof and an NEC mobile cellular car phone, though. I've seen only a few Toronados of these hated downsized years, and most of them beaten hard with random wheels, busted antennas, and broken headlamp doors. But this? Almost perfect. *Sigh*

Being the "Resident Young Stickler" that I am ... I find it fascinating when I spot ads for cars that advertise for one year of car, but show a completely different year of the same car. I found out recently that my best friend from high school and his girlfriend are members of Quixtar, successor to the pyramid-scheme Amway that has been around since the 70s. He first mentioned something to me a couple weeks ago when we were golfing about making money and only having to work a few hours a week by selling things. I was kinda interested because it sounded pretty easy (I assumed it was just some on-line business type of thing) and he told me it was called Quixtar. But something about that name hung in the back of my mind later that evening when I was back home I remembered a guy trying to recruit me to Quixtar when I was a sophomore in college and thin…

A while back, my neighbors put their little house cat outside because she "attacked" their daughter (I think it may have been the other way around, but I digress). She was in heat. She's been hopping over from their deck to mine from time to time if she knows my door is open. She'd been trying to get into my house. I've been petting her and being nice to her, but I didn't want to let her in. I had the door open this morning, she heard me through the screen door, so she hopped over and started crying he…

As I have posted repeatedly, I grew up in LA and left a few years after finishing undergrad, largely because my entire family picked up and moved north. I went to Atlanta instead because that's where a decent job offer together with a relocation reimbursement presented itself When I was a teenager, I thought movie star sightings were cool and that they must have it together...at least more so than the rest of us. I was never THAT taken by them, however. After I moved away and could see things clearly, I realized that a lot of them have poor values, low morals, don't know how to channel their money and fame, and, are generally pretty repulsive. This stretches from Eli…

So today we all went to my bro's house for a late Thanksgiving dinner. While we were waiting for the burned-to-a-crisp turkey to emerge from the deep fryer, some of us were watching Comedy Central, and that ventriloquist dude everybody's talking about was on. One of his puppets started making fun of Prius drivers. My dad and I laughed, I said "gotta love those Prius drivers". My sister-in-law's stepdad didn't crack a smile. His Prius was in my bro's driveway. When I went to leave after dinner and I said my goodbyes, everybody spoke but him. He gave me a dirty look. HA! Our pets come up every now and then. More people here discuss dogs. I love dogs too. I am indifferent to cats for the most part; however, about 1 year ago when I lived in another neighborhood, there was a cat that practically greeted me outside my car when I pulled up from work and then came and hung out in my living room for about 2 or 3 hours before returning to his owner. He was well-fed. He didn't want food. He had a spot on the sofa he liked and sat there and purred.

Hi there! I'll admit writing this feels somewhat awkward as I really don't like talking about myself. Most of the time, I'm churning out news stories and reviews for various places. But this is somewhat important. Next week, I'll be starting a new job with JATO Dynamics as a Specifications Researcher. Basically, I'll be digging into the various information about features, options, and other information on new vehicles. This may seem somewhat odd to be moving from a writing position to doing a bit of research, but it actually uses a lot of the skills and knowledge that I have gathered from being a freelancer. Also, I've been feeling slightly burnt out in terms of the …

I am thinking of creating a database of ALL GM engines that have been produced since its inception. It has to be exhaustive and should include as much information as possible. Here are few keys I have thought. Engine Name Introduction Date Generation Engine Type Displacement Cylinder Count Fuel Type Bore x Stroke Compression Ratio Peak Power, Torque and respective RPMS. Firing Order Horsepower, Torque vs. RPM curve CO2 emission numbers Applications in GM vehicles Dry Engine Weight Brief History While most of the figures will be handy, the most important data which will be lacking are HP, Torque curve and CO2 emissions. The idea is to have one stop shop for all of us lo…

My sister was rear-ended by an Eyewitness News truck late Friday night while merging onto a local highway. After the initial impact, the car was pushed sideways and eventually off the road completely. Thankfully, my sister is fine. Unfortunately, my car wasn't so lucky. The left rear quarter and entire driver's side underwent severe damage as a result of the initial impact. The suspension underwent minor to moderate damage and at least one of the right wheels was bent upon impact with the curb. Notable replacements will/would include both left taillamps, the gas tank, one or both of the right-side wheels, and the left-side mirror. I'm not sure if the dr…

Yesterday I put the Sierra on Rt 95 S and headed to the Baltimore Convention Center to check out the Motor Trend-sponsored Auto Show. The show opened at 10, I got there around 11:30, so the crowd was still fairly thin. First display I came upon was Chevrolet, with the glorious Vettes out front, at the entry point. Off to the side was the 2009 Aveo5 LT in silver, which, I have to say looked better than all the photos suggest. Without seeing it side by side with the current car, the new front does not look too big as I'd feared, that and the touched-up tail do a good job of modernizing the little guy. The sunroof, alloys and two-tone leatherette interior add to the app…

Have you guys heard about the mountain lion that attacked an elderly couple hiking in the Redwoods in northern California? This blew my mind since that area looks more like Oregon, damp, with tall trees and ferns. I always thought these animals hung out where it's more parched and scrubby...like the Gold Country parts of the lower Sierra. The man has gotten better but now his condition is worse. I feel really bad for him. I'm holding good thoughts for him. In fact, there was a fatal mountain lion attack in the mid-1990s on a jogger on the outskirts of Auburn, a mere 30 miles east of Sacramento where people swim and raft in the river there. You are supposed to face…

Betcha didn't see this one coming... US youngsters are too fat to fight, warn generals Former generals want Congress to act to give children better food in schools. Rising rates of obesity among young Americans could undermine the future of the US military, two retired generals have warned. More than a quarter of young Americans are now too fat to fight, they said. LINK HERE A nation growing with slow, easy targets... that can't be good.

So I went over to York, PA today to study some vehicles. The Buick, while cool as heck, is just too expensive at this point in my life. The Fords are very nice, all SE manual hatches ranging from $23-$25k (crappy pinstripes would be off like a prom dress immediately though). The Sonic RS is $21.8k but red is not my color (although it looks very good in red). Please give opinions if you wish. http--,,--//

When I was little, I first got Lincoln Logs and Tinker Toys and then Legos that I would play with for hours and build all these little cities. Then as I got older, I got K'Nex, Micro Machines (I had so many of the city sets that I could cover half of a room), and finally my favorite toy, Girder and Panel. I found my first Girder and Panel (known as KenStruct in the 70s) set at a garage sale...it's basically where you construct skyscrapers with these little plastic beams and columns and then you snap on these plastic panels for the walls and windows. The first set was from the mid 70s, and then one day at Toys R' Us I found out they had a new set and got that for a Ch…

Last night's Metallica show here in Lisbon was very, very good! Those guys seem to have plenty of energy left in them and if the setlist is any indication of where they got or are getting inspiration for their new album, then let me tell you it is promising: apart from Reload's The Memory Remains, everything they pleyed was from the 1983-1991 period. Needless to say, but my voice is completely f#cked up today Here's the setlist: Creeping Death For Whom The Bell Tolls Rid The Lightning Disposable Heroes The Unforgiven ...And Justice For All The Memory Remains The Four Horsemen Orion Fade To Black Master of Puppets Battery - - - - Sad But True Nothing Els…

Went to bed at 3:49am, set Alarm Clock for 7:40am, I startled myself awake (nightmare) and litteraly as soon as I stood up out of bed and starred at the alarm clock it turned from 7:39 to 7:40 and the alarm went off. Less than 2 seconds after my having woken up. What's more creepy than the fact that my alarm clock is Atomic Clock accurate is the fact that this heppens quite often. Bizzare & frankly, a bit perplexing. Anyone else have this happen on occasion?

We all got conditioned to having it in the steering column. Then, after renting Intrigues, GPs and Malibus, I found that having it in the dash is kind of cool. Slap on the wrist to LaCrosse and Lucerne for having it on the column.

Britney Spears, Tom Cruise, Lindsay Lohan, Kanye West, Terrell Owens, Paris Hilton, David Beckham. Who are these people and what are they to you? Well, that’s easy, they are celebrities. They are rich and famous; they are amazing people – right or wrong? Obviously that statement is right. Photographers make millions of dollars to follow them around and find out what’s going on in their lives, and it’s so easy for them to do it. These celebrities put their entire lives out on the street to sell themselves; they’re basically whores, all of them. But that’s fine because these paparazzi are making their cash and we’re just soaking it up. “What happened to Paris?! No way…

I'm not keeping this one forever. Once I feel the time is right, I'll have to have the replacement ready. My first thought was a huge question mark. So give me some ideas, and don't be too nasty (yeah, right). Have fun: at my expense, at GM's , or be serious if you like. You never know what might end up as the perfect idea.

Children as young as two are now dropping f-bombs, with researchers reporting that more kids are using profanity — and at earlier ages — than has been recorded in at least three decades. So finds data presented at this month's Sociolinguistics Symposium in the U.K., at which swearing scholar Timothy Jay revealed that the rise in vulgarity within adult culture dovetails with similar spikes in the number of youths using offensive language. "By the time kids go to school now, they're saying all the words that we try to protect them from on television," says Jay, a psychology professor at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. "We find their swearing really takes off betwe…

My worst two- Taking the Miata down my favorite exit ramp (marked 25 MPH) at 73 miles per hour after I pulled off the shaved autocross tires and put on all seasons...one VERY impressive four wheel drift at high speed about two weeks ago. Would have hated to call the insurance company back... Was driving to work about two years ago, took the Miata...which was a mistake, as it was a level two snow emergency. Good looking thirty something blonde in a Hyundai Tiberon wanted to race me, for some unknown reason i raced her...not thinking that this time I DID have the shaved autocross tires (read-slicks on all 4 corners during a blizzard)...had about three car lengths pulled…

First, take a G6, deform the roofline to make it bland and make the taillights look ugly. Slap on a Vauxhall (or to-be Saturn) grille on the front. Add H badges to taste. Ta-da! Didn't know Honda loves GM so much these days... I just see so many similar things.
