Buick
Founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, Buick is one of America’s oldest automobile brands and the oldest active division of General Motors (GM). Known for pioneering innovations like the overhead valve engine, Buick became a symbol of affordable luxury throughout the 20th century. It played a key role in GM’s growth and today positions itself between Chevrolet and Cadillac, offering premium vehicles in both the U.S. and China—its largest market.

So, not many changes are in store for the LaCrosse and Lucerne. Both get tire-pressure monitoring standard. The LaCrosse gets new available wheels on the CXL, and a new standard 12-spoke wheel on the CXS. A few color changes are in store for both--most likely just name changes for the current colors. Touch screen Nav will be available for the Lucerne, as well as a cargo net. Both retain the 3800 as a base.

The GM FastLane Blog presents a transcript of a recent speech by Bob Lutz, under the heading "Re-Igniting the Passion," dated April 13, 2006. In the transcript, Lutz is quoted that GM has big plans for Saturn and all of its brands. So I posted a message asking for more information. In case they do not use it, here is what I wrote: "Mr. Lutz, it was interesting to read your statement, "So we have big plans for Saturn, as we do for all of our brands." We can certainly see and GM has clearly explained what is in store for Saturn. But GM has done a poor job relating what is the future for one of your cornerstone brands, Buick. No one is asking you to reveal future prod…

Wow! Wait'll you see this: a pimped out Buick Lucerne DUB Edition, as reported by edmunds.com. The vehicle will be shown in 16 major U.S. markets this year. Personally I like the exterior with the 22-inch chrome rims and other effects; I don't need a TV screen or DVD inside, though. What do you think?

As some of you may know, the LA Times recently published a piece about Buick and its future. The author made several mistakes, including that Buick was founded by William Durant. The Times ran a correction yesterday. The article was a slam to the future of Buick, and the author did not use a SINGLE Buick owner. He did not write about how Buick outsells Acura, Infiniti, Jaguar, Cadillac, Saturn, Saab, Mercury, etc and beats them in quality surveys. If you are a Buick owner or a fan, and are upset about this article, please write to the LA Times auto editor Barry Stavro: barry.stavrolatimes.com You can also contact the Buick spokesman David Darovitz to encourage…

Buick essentially rebodies the Cadillac DTS By Scott Oldham Email Date posted: 04-03-2006 Over the years, we've driven cars that disappoint, cars that irk, cars that thrill. We've even sampled a few that made us laugh. But the 2006 Buick Lucerne CXL V8 is the only car we've ever driven that has caused us physical pain. Our Platinum Metallic test vehicle was packed with options, including heated and cooled front seats that cost an extra $1,075. The cooling part of the package was fine, but using the seat heaters, turned the Buick's front seats into torture devices. Now we know what it's like to sit on an open flame. Logbook entries on the subject included: "Call t…

The company ignored warnings 20 years ago that changes were needed. Is it too late? By John O'Dell, Times Staff Writer April 2, 2006 Buick was the seed from which General Motors Corp. sprouted. And for generations, the luxury car line was one of GM's most bountiful divisions. The Buick brand filled a crucial niche for the auto giant, attracting well-heeled consumers who wanted more than an Oldsmobile but weren't comfortable with the flash of a Cadillac. Now as GM faces the threat of bankruptcy, Buick has emerged as an emblem of the auto giant's broader woes. GM sold nearly a million Buicks in the U.S. in 1984. By last year, sales had sputtered to 282,288, a 70% dec…

WIth Lucerne selling very well and getting great reviews, what can GM do to take it to the next level? I suggest: 1. More chrome 2. A more Buick grille. 3. Maybe a coupe, and convertible version...maybe even a wagon! 4. A few distinctive colors that no one else has.

I just purchased my Buick Lucerne 2006 CXL. It is the last in a long line of Buicks I have owned for the past 25 years. I can truly say it is not a Buick of the past but a Buick of the future. I could not be more pleased. This is truly a great American Automobile and the finest Buick has produced in my opinion. I am sure many older Buick owners like myself will not feel comfortable in this updated Buick image. However, I think it must be the wave of the future if Buick is to survive. This is truly a tremendous automobile. I have never driven a more quiet, comfortable automobile. Buick and Buick fans should be proud that Buick is finally back on the right track!

So, I'm flipping through the recent Automobile... Came across a short section on the Enclave where it said "Other than the Buick ventiports and grille, [the Enclave] is completely generic" And then this jewel: (Might not be the exact quote) "The aluminum on the dash looks like an unrefined knife blade and the REAL wood looks FAKE." ***This is further proof that the anti-GM media sentiment is TOO powerful for GM to overcome. I said it with the Solstice and I'll say it again; GM will NEVER be good enough for the media. The Enclave is BEAUTIFUL, yet this is the respect GM gets.... These smart assed, exaggerated one liners that have NO JUSTIFICATION. NOW, apparent…

With news of Buick getting a RWD sedan, I have been wondering if Buick even needs another sedan. Currently, as we all know, Buick only has two sedans, the LaCrosse and Lucerne. The next LaCrosse will be moving to Epsilon II and the future of the Lucerne is uncertain because the future of the G-Body platform is also uncertain. The next LaCrosse will likely be smaller than the current model, as currently Epsilon vehicles are almost ten inches shorter than the LaCrosse, and W-Body suffers from long overhangs. We also have heard that Epsilon II will be slightly larger than Epsilon; so, let's assume the next LaCrosse will be somewhere around 190-193 inches. Now, both the L…

I sold the Park Avenue Ultra shown in my signature. After 2 years and 40,000 miles it was time to let somebody else enjoy it before pushing it over the 50,000 mile mark. I never intended to keep it forever. One reason is that when it was originally offered to me I was led to believe that it had a shale interior; when I drove from Florida to North Carolina and saw it, the interior was gray. Despite realizing then I had been had by this country-boy dealer, being the good sport that I am I took the car anyway and made the best of the situation. I have been shopping around for another vehicle and can't make up my mind what one to drive. I was offered a lease payment…

2006 Buick Lucerne CXL V6 Test Drive Over the weekend I test drove a 2006 Buick Lucerne CXL V6, the vehicle I am thinking about buying. The test drive car was a well equipped (only lacking the Heated and Cooled Seats) Ming Blue Lucerne with the tuxedo interior. The interior in my opinion was well done, yes there is plastic but the plastic has a nice matte look and feel to it, giving the impression of a more expensive car. The seats were comfortable and it was easy to find the right driving position. The simulated wood look extremely well and it looked as if it was hand polished just for the vehicle. The controls and all of the buttons felt as if they belonged on a …

Buick is bridging the generation gap, good news, according to Steve Purdy of the Auto Channel. Here's an especially nice portion of his review: "Buick general manager, Steve Shannon, reports a 'great start' since introduction last October with Lucerne accounting for 27% of large-car sales in the fourth quarter of last year and segment leading sales in December as well. 'We’re very pleased at how Lucerne is performing out of the gate,' he said. Lucerne has also won accolades from USA Today, The Detroit News and Kiplinger’s."

A few more details have come out about Buick's LaCrosse Super, in an article by Jamie Lareau in this week's issue of Automotive News. "Buick will get a 'super' version of the LaCrosse. That's an 'up-level edition" . . . It will include new front-end treatments, such as a waterfall grille, and a V-8 engine . . . pricing has not been set." "Buick starts production on the Enclave crossover this fall and likely will start production on the super LaCrosse at that time . . . " " . . . Buick expects to sell 8,000 Lucerne sedans a month this year." Here is a link to the full story, which also includes coverage of Pontiac's entry-level G5 coupe. Click on this.

Recently had the opportunity to rent a base LaCrosse CX for a weekend from Friday to Monday morning. It was a blue fleet model without the Onstar. I was relieved to see that it at least had the bucket seats because every Impala they had was a split bench. Upon pulling out of the rental agency, I noticed right away that the LaCrosse was a bit quieter than it's Regal/Century predecessors. The 3800 sounded almost identical to my 00 LeSabre with a more muted exhaust and a very refined idle. This was one of my biggest beefs with the W-bodies in the past. The 3800's always sounded thrashy and course but this one was noticeably more refined overall, just as advertised! Road nois…

Okay, so I know you have to deal with dealers to cut down pricing, but as I was looking at the Lucernce CXL V6, I begin to wonder how they think they would get away with it. Let me explain, First off, isn't the heated and cooled drivers seat including in the CXL V6 Packages? (at least the site of gmbuypower nor Buick.com tries to price you on, but the brochures and comparison charts say they have them). Needless to say the dealers are adding $1,075.00 for this. (if this isn't the case how come you can't build this on Buick.com or GmBuypower.com but get a shock with an extra $1,000 when you search dealer inventory?) He said no price has been decided.

I was worried that it would be too big for me, but, in person, it didn't seem too big. Chunky or hefty, yes, but I don't mean that in a bad way, just a descriptive adjective. It looks very substantial. Though I arrived not long after the Show opened for the day, there were a lot of people looking at the various Buicks. I think this has been covered, but I think Buick really screwed up on the Lucerne grill. First, the shape is homely, not bold. Second, they black out the grill on the upmarket CXS and CXL trying to appeal to "Euro" buyers. Bring out the chrome baby. Despite all that I wouldn't mind owning a Ming Blue CX with a cloth bench and that homely but shiny grill. But I'd wait for the $$$ to come down or buy a one year old low mileage rental.

I'm thinking about getting a Buick Lucerne CXL V6 model for my next car. I've read some reviews (not too detailed though) and it seems it is a good buy. I'm very interested in it's features, comfort and of course the quietness. The other car I was looking at was the Impala LTZ, but this does not offer the features that I like. I noticed that there are a good many unsold Lacrosses on the GM BuyPower website, just over 40 here in Florida. They are mostly vehicles with goofy equipment packages that raise the MSRP without making the car worthwhile. An example of this is a CXS without the Gold Convenience Package but with sunroof, MP3 player, stabilitrack, etc. I thought they cleared all these out with their employee pricing scheme. How do they think they'll sell this orphaned inventory?

I was at B and N working on a paper this AM. After some coffee, I went over to the magazine area. I saw that Car and Driver reviewed the Lucerne. Overall, the review was positive. It praised the craftsmanship and the quality of the product. It seemed a little shortchanged on the power of the V8 engine. But, overall, not bad. The first picture one encounters is indeed flattering. The one comment that bugged me is that the styling piggybacks onto that of the mid 90s Camry. How is that? I think that the Lucerne's styling is closely aligned with that of the large VW Phaeton. In fact, one day I was driving down the freeway and thought that the car 1/4 mile ahead o…

I just happened to run across this and personally I think it looks pretty goofy but I just can't believe Buick did this. More pictures are on the site. http://www.luxurycarts.com/buick_lucerne_golf_cart.htm

Wheels: Lucerne should broaden Buick's appeal to younger set Thursday, February 02, 2006 By Don Hammonds, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Growing up in the 1950s, one of my favorite memories was an olive green 1949 Buick Roadmaster Convertible that my next-door neighbor proudly drove around town. That car had that indefinable something called presence. You couldn't take your eyes off of it and there was a certain air of romance about it as it headed down the road. Buick always stood for just that -- presence, glamour and the romance of the American road. And thanks to Buick's newest full size sedan, the Lucerne, General Motors' upper-end car division has recaptured that past…

Well, its obvious that Buick is trying to go back to the refined and premium vehicles that they once made. going back to the luxurious and styled vehicles. and just a second ago i was thinking, what cars will be in store for the future buick? and if Buick changes peoples perception, enough so that people will buy them. what is their perception? so basically what i am questioning, is what type of cars should buick be making? always Buick has made full size sedans. Always. Buick has catered to people who desire comfort. well... why does Buick only offer full size sedans, or maybe the lacross is a midsize, but no compacts? what does GM have to compete wi…

The only incentive on Lucerne now is a lousy GM interest rate program. Why a chimpanzee could don a suit of clothes and apply to a bank or credit union and beat the lousy finance rates GM is offering on Lucerne.

The picture at Buick is much brighter than the sales numbers indicate. Buick numbers did drop last year, roughly the same plunge Pontiac took, but the brand had fewer models than in 2004. It also went nearly 2 months without a full-size model offering during the LeSabre/Lucerne switchover. Optimism is high at GM for Buick for the following reasons: 1. Retail sales are up from 2004 as fleet sales are reduced. 2. Lucerne sales are off to a good start. In the month of December, the first full month of Lucerne production, more people bought Buick Lucernes than bought all 6 models from the entire Saab Division. 3. Despite nearing the end of its run, Rendezvou…

I keep looking at the relentless decline in Buick's sales numbers and wonder how much time the name has left. I was pretty excited about the LaCrosse when it first arrived (maybe because it looked so much better than the cars it replaced), but now it's starting to look fairly dated already. The same with the Lucerne (though to be fair I've not seen one in person here in LA). What will the sales numbers look like a year or two from now when the Enclave is introduced? And then another few years after that when the Epsilon II replacement arrives and later (maybe) Zeta? I wonder, too, how well Enclave will do compared to Arcadia both being sold at the same dealers? We m…

Just saw a commercial for the Lucerne CXL on tv, in which it said the car was quieter than some Lexus model, Acura model, and Infiniti model (it named the specific models, I just didn't catch them all) and started at $25,990, I think it was. But what really perked my ears up was the very last statement: "Buick... beyond precision, not beyond your reach." How do you like that line?

Having been on car lots on the other side of the border a few times since the car's release, I have seen some W-bodies branded Allure. I don't think it's a bad name. LaCrosse is a sport, yet so many posters have deemed this car to have a "feminine quality." I like to think of it as sexless, but I don't think it's as sporty as the name implies...even in CXS form. I think the name Allure is somewhat similar to the name Intrigue. And I believe that the LaCrosse/Allure fills the void (sadly) left behind by the very tasteful Olds Intrigue. I give my nod to the name Allure for both sides of the border, though it's a little late for that at this stage in the game. Your…

Anyone with a Rainier, Rendezvous, or Lucerne can you measure the navigation/radio unit? Im trying to see if I can get it to fit in my regal easier. I wonder how hard it would be to wire it up. I think the Rainier looks like the best fit, but I need to know how big it is. Stock Radio.. Buick Rainier... Buick Rendezvous... Buick Lucerne...

Jamie LaReau Automotive News / January 16, 2006 http://autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?...B/60113035/1115 DETROIT - The Buick Enclave crossover concept vehicle shown at the Detroit auto show is "99 percent" similar to the production version, says Robert Lutz, GM's vice chairman and global product chief. One difference: The concept version seats six; the production version will seat seven. Ed Welburn, GM's vice president of global design, says the Enclave's new interior style, called "Heritage Forward," uses wood and leather and has adjustable individual seats. Like Buick's new Lucerne sedan, the Enclave has the brand's signature portholes in the front fenders. Th…

A dealer friend of mine, who is credible, stated that his GM rep said there will be a Park Avenue replacement this summer. Does anybody know anything about it? GM is better at keeping secrets now days, so it wouldn't suprise me.

Is the Lambda platform flexible enough for GM to develop a sedan off of this vehicle? Hopefully a Buick sedan that would give this division something unique from the other GM divisions. Possibly a car above the Lucerne would be really nice.

When I was drooling over the Enclave pics, I started to wonder what the other Lambdas would look like, and then I remembered that there is a Buick minivan off Lambda planned. With the Enclave though, there'd be no reason to make it. Seriously, how many people are going to buy a minivan over the Enclave just because of sliding doors? Here are some reasons why there is no need for a Buick minivan: 1) A large portion of possible sales of the minivan would just go to the Enclave instead. 2) If they're going to do a Buick minivan, I think we agree it should be well differeniated from its lesser siblings, and this means increased development dollars. 3) If you're on a t…

OK, Im not trying to distract from the release of the Lucerne. Still I am spured from a look at the Camaro concept and recent topics where I have questioned wheres the investment for Buick ? Remember the 3 billion ? I am really happy with the Lacrosse and the Lucerne, Lacrosse needed some time to grow on me but you know, I think excluding its few flaws that we dont need to rebash it is an excellent car for what and where it is, an improved and rebodied mid lux. The Lucerne is very striking, yet sensible and roomy but once again... improved rebody. Are we going to get one car from these new RWD platforms and suspension technology? One car that really cranks the old hea…

I didn't see this anywhere else and I don't really care enough to post it in the GM section because Buick is really the only GM company that I care about, though it's interesting to see the other figures. http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2006/01/05/205609.html Key facts: -Buick Sales are down only 8.8% from last year -Only 92,000 LaCrosses were sold this year (8 grand short of the the 100k total we were hoping for) -The LaCrosse sold approximately 8,000 more vehicles than the Century and Regal combined in 2004. -The Lucerne has sold just shy of 9,000 vehicles for the year. -The Rendezvous is STILL growing in sales despite it being 4 years old…

as i have stated before, i am 25 and have never wanted for a American before. i currently drive a Maxima (which i have loved to the bone for all 198,000 miles. but soon i will be purchasing a new auto and i want to take advantage of the GMS (employee) pricing i receive from my father in law. the only American car that has struck me with a gasp has been the Chrysler 300 SRT-8, but for me and my family (wife and 5 week old) it just isnt a realistic option at this point. As many have read my review of the Lucerne, i loved what i saw and drove. a black on black CXS with all the chrome trim was the best looking GM car i have seen to date, with the exception of the CTS-V…

http://www.e-gm.com.tw/buick/index.asp When the site finishes loading put your mouse where the hand is pointing to, above the big picture of the Rendezvous. When you click on the Velite it comes up to a coloring page with the words "2006" and some language I dont understand. Could it say the 2006 Buick Velite? Could this be a sign that the Velite is coming? Who knows.... Yes im bored... :o

I think that this competent car (easy to live with, day in and day out...as Bobo quoted) looks good from the side profile and sports a nice looking rear tail lamp / rear deck lid combination, whether straight on or from a quarter view. I think that the front is a MISS...just look at the Lucerne. LaCrosse's looks part Taurus and part Jag entry-level model. It needs to be something that can't be equated with something else. I gave it an "EH."
