Is it too early to talk about a 6th gen Camaro? Might as well, between CAFE and Zeta production decisions, I have a feeling the 5th gen may not be with us for very long. I'll start. The 6th gen (if there even is one), would need to be smaller and lighter than the 5th. It will need to be in order to help GM with their CAFE goals, plus a tidier package would be a good thing for a pony car. It will also need to share it's architecture with a family of CAFE friendly vehicles, in order to make it economically viable. Alpha is the only architecture which comes to mind. Although a next gen Camaro would need to be heavily invested in I4, turbo I4, and V6 powertrains, I su…

2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid Black on Black 60K - Ebay Here is the first one I have seen, you can buy it now for 60K *asswholes price gouging as usual* and they claim that this dealer is only getting three in this year and look they have all three right now. Greenies go get 'em! Where is Toyota's fullsize hybrid... I would get a 2008 LTZ Tahoe with 2WD and the 6.2L Vortec/6spd. automatic, you can build 'em like that on Chevy's site now. That is werid but cool.

I've never heard of this before, but here's an excerpt from the Chevy Malibu article on Wikipedia... In 1981, General Motors of Canada in Oshawa produced a special order of 12,000 4-door Malibu sedans for Saddam Hussein's Iraqi government. The deal was worth 100-million dollars to GM. These special order Malibus carried the unusual combination of GM's lowest-power V6, the 110hp 229ci (3.8 l) engine mated to a unique 3-on-the-floor stick shifter. All of the cars were equipped with air conditioning, heavy duty cooling systems, tough upholstery and 14-inch (360 mm) stamped steel wheels with trim rings and "baby moon" center caps. They were the ultimate Iraqi Taxis. In 1982…

So we have a couple of vehicles over here that are not avalible in the united states. first of, i'll start with the zeta impala, i wish i had pictures to show you, but it looks confused between a current impala (rear looks the same as current gen including tail lights.) and the front doesnt really know whats going on, has the same side profile almost as the g8, and front lights look like bug eyes, not so pleasent. didnt really get a chance to look it over as i was driving by on a bus. the lumina, looks to be on the epsilon, looks kinda similar to the 08 malibu, but it looks like it wasnt given the same refinement as the malibu, although the tail lights might be a go…

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...photopanel..1.* so Edmunds gets sharp tongued at GM for making a hybrid. they test it for a lousy 887 miles to come up with a final verdict on mpg, and most of it HIGHWAY where the greatest mpg gains in hybrids are in town. They would not test a prius the same way. again, biased edmunds. but read it and get your own take. they can't stand how well executed it drives so they rigged the story to find as many ways to talk negatively about it as they could.

As much as I hoped that the C7 would finally get a mid engine configuartion, I have to eat crow and give props to Chris Doane . Here is what Peter DeLorenzo said; "Mid-Engine Corvette Fans. Publisher's Note - BREAKING NEWS (First Posted at 6:30pm, 1/10/08): I have learned that the often-rumored, on-the-front-burner/off-the-front-burner mid-engine proposal for the next-generation Corvette (C7) has now officially been shelved because of costs associated with doing the program. The challenges that I reported as being "solved" last August on Autoextremist.com apparently grew more complex, and because of that the volume proposition for the mid-engine Corvette came apart. To…

Orginal (Bug guts and all...) Okay so I saw Mario's Camaro desktops and thought they were missing something... So I went through my archive (I save every GM Wieck Photo) and found a Camaro badge from the same angle and pasted it where the Chevy logo should be. (As in in the orginal it wasn't there.) I them removed all the big "bug spots" from the front end and edited the color slightly I also have it in 1440X900 (for wide-screen monitors) and or 1280X960, PM me if you'd like one of those size(s). I can't host the large than 1024X768 on photobucket. Take care and enjoy... Be sure to tell me how I did on the chop and what you think! :AH-HA_wink: I want the CAMARO NOW…

You all know GME and Chevy grow closer and closer together. Here's an article from Automotive News that shows just how close. It looks like GM Daewoo is falling under GME's spell. John Revill Automotive News Europe January 21, 06:01 CET General Motors Europe could build Chevrolet cars in Germany and Sweden to meet booming European demand for the brand. GM’s underused factories in Rüsselsheim, Germany, and Trollhättan, Sweden, could begin production of Chevrolet cars within two years, high-level GM sources told Automotive News Europe. Chevrolet aims to double its European sales to 1 million by 2010, Wayne Brannon, head of Chevrolet Europe, told the Financial…

What's the possibility of this happening? Obviously GM sees a market for a wagon here in the US -- they're about to release the CTS Wagon and seemed to be seriously considering the G8 Wagon. Maybe they didn't think a Wagon would bode well with Pontiac's performance image (despite some of their other vehicles not fitting it well)? Could we see an Impala Maxx or Wagon variant? I don't see why not. Then again, there's got to be some reason for why Chrysler is canceling the Magnum... and maybe GM looked into that. That's also possible.

Ok - just a random question... We've seen spy pics of the Camaro and Challenger on Detroit Area roads. Has anyone seen or been able to substantiate any chance they may share the same roads at the same time? Seeing both of them together by accident (nudge-nudge-wink-wink) would be a major buzz generator. Maybe our Detroit area C&G'ers could enlighten us?

Yes, yes, the Impala was launched in 1958 as a subseries of the topline Bel-Air in 2-door hardtop coupe and 2-door soft-top convertible body styles (the others were the Delray and Biscayne, which respectively replaced 150/210 for the one-year-only design, then Delray in name only was dropped and Biscayne and Bel-Air were downshifted to the previous levels), but it was 1959 when Impala displaced the Bel-Air as a series name, thus the 50th anniversary. The Impala shown looked like it had 80U Red Jewel Tintcoat paint and it looks to be based on one of the LT trims with a FlexFuel V-6 (unless that's an Anniversary Edition Badge or such). http://www.autodeadline.com/detail…

The lease is up on my wife's '06 Dodge Caravan SXT and we're looking for replacements. One vehicle we're NOT considering is the '08 Mopar minivans. The things are butt-ugly and they're even larger & heavier than the outgoing models. Yeah, the interiors are pretty nice and they've done some remarkable stuff with ride quality and sound insulation on the new models. But unfortunately, they're now big tubby tanks and have been supersized right up & out of our league. Saw an ad for price-leader "program cars" at a local Chevy dealership so we popped in to have a look. They let us have an '07 Malibu Maxx LT for the weekend to evaluate it. The car has 15,900 miles on i…

Edmunds The Chevy is overwhelmingly picked as the number one entry, in a three-way even comparison with like-priced 4 cylinder Accords and Camrys. Accord also rates highly to many, though the Camry is picked as the laggard of the group, except when a Camry owner actually tests his own car against the competition. I smell some buyer's remorse. The interior is even the gray color scheme! This is a great example of what discerning Americans getting a chance to see the competition side by side pick the Chevy above the competition!

Link to AutoBlog The 2009 Corvette ZR1 has arrived, but speculation surrounding the next-generation C7 model and a possible mid-engine variant continue to persist. Bill Visnic from AutoObserver claims that the idea of a mid-engine Vette, either as a variant of the C7 or a replacement of the current front-engine model, is still being discussed by top engineers involved with developing the next iteration of Chevy's iconic sports car. The main argument against the idea of a mid-engine Vette remains the price tag, as costs would drive up the price to above $100,000. While the ZR1 is priming the public for the concept of a $100,000 Corvette, the current base model remains …

Kurt B noted this anniversary on the Monte Carlo Mailing List before I had a chance to the other evening.... 20 years ago today (December 11) the Monte Carlo was discontinued. A quote from the GM restoration packet: "The 1988 model year marked the end of an era. The Aero Coupe had been dropped. The Monte Carlo was made available in LS and SS versions only. After approximately 3 months of production, Chevrolet opted to completely cancel the Monte Carlo model. Sadly, production ceased on Friday, December 11, 1987, at 5:29 PM." Despite all the technology in the new cars (R8 and Van V8), the new LS series V8 just keeps proving to be a sweet engine. Before you get your hopes up too much, keep in mind this is a fairly base Corvette going up against cars the start at $70k more in price. So wifey and I took it for a spin... Here's some of my thoughts Very quiet interior, good sound deadening of the motor (wife has '00 ALero 2.4 4 cyl... noticable difference in noise) Nice stable roll in corners, very good for a family sedan Power of the base 4 cyl was as to be expected Back end looked better in person Love the use of the chrome around the license plate Very nicely desinged dash Has a few blind spots... 'A' piller is even kinda big?? Also gotta be cautious while back…

Did anyone else see it? There is a Tundra parked on the side of the road. A guy driving a Silverado pulls up and asks the owner if he needs a ride. Now, for a split second I was expecting and hoping that the reason for the Tundra being on the side of the road was a snapped camshaft. While it was disappointing that this was not the case, it was also AWESOME that the reason was the Tundra RAN OUT OF GAS. The commercial then went on to illustrate the same regarding the Ford F-150. FINALLY. This is the kind of advertising GM needs. Tell people why GM's trucks are better than Toyota's.

GM sees "showdown" with Toyota on electric car Thu Nov 15, 2007 9:09 AM GMT | By Kevin Krolicki | Link to Original Article @ Reuters LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - General Motors is on track to road test its Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid early next year and to produce the rechargeable car by late 2010, setting the stage for a "showdown" with Toyota, a senior GM executive said on Wednesday. As the race to bring a mass-market, rechargeable electric vehicle to market heats up, Bob Lutz, GM's head of global product development, said the largest U.S. automaker remained on track to launch the Chevy Volt in November 2010. Chevy Tahoe Hybrid wins 2007 Green Car of the Year Link to Original Post @ Autoblog Surprise, Surprise! Founder of Green Car Journal Ron Cogan announced that the third annual Green Car of the Year Award would go to the big GM Hybrid SUV for its innovation in demonstrating that a vehicle with lots of people and cargo hauling capability could still offer fuel economy equivalent to that of a much smaller four-cylinder sedan. Of the five nominees that include the Saturn Aura Green Line, Chevy Malibu Hybrid, Nissan Altima Hybrid and Mazda Tribute Hybrid, GM's Two-Mode Hybrid system is clearly the most innovative.

GM @ South Florida Auto Show 2008 Malibu LTZ The Malibu is a wonderful looking car inside and out. More handsome than either the Accord or Camry and with a superior interior, too. You can count cutlines and worry about the material five inches under the seat all you'd like, but the look and functionality is far superior to the doofy Toyota and lousy Honda interfaces. Plus, nothing looks more ridiculous than the Accord's gearshift indicator. Like a playtoy. Malibu hybrids were at both shows, but the Tampa show had an interesting variation...

Has anyone seen the new Malibu commercial? It shows a Camry, then this suspensful music and the camera pans to the Malibu's imposing front end and up comes the text "CAMRY BEWARE" Car & Driver, November 2007" with the accompanying voice saying "Malibu, the car you cant ignore." It's a pretty good commercial. Short, and gets its point across.

My local Chevy store (here in Toronto, Canada) just recieved the new 2008 Malibu. They had an LS model parked outside, between an Impala and 07 malibu. Here are some pictures that will give you a good idea of how the car compares and looks in natural morning light. VIDEO!: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=uIxhEKh2XXo Sorry for the graininess, I had the ISO a bit too high. continued next post...

The Detroit Free Press has not been one of the nicest when it comes to covering American cars in the past and even the present. This is a trend that is not just reserved for the Detroit papers, but for all the nationwide media. More and more excellent reviews of the Malibu are spreading like wildfire. Read for yourself... http://freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID...1015/BUSINESS02

I found an article from the February 2004 issue of Motor Trend. The article is a comparison between the then-new Chevy Malibu, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Mitsubishi Galant. Here is the money quote from the Malibu (which placed 3rd of 4, beating only the Camry) : "After years of producing also-rans, Chevrolet has turned out a family sedan that's competitive with the best in its segment. Families especially mindful of the bottom line need look no further." -Motor Trend 56.2 (Feb 2004): p92(11). (3745 words) I think we're hearing much of the same now with the new Malibu coming out. Only time will tell if this new generation escapes the journalistic fate of…

I am seeing tons of shiny white Uplanders at US Post Offices, and in many other places of business. So, some questions. Are fleet buyers getting them instead of full sized vans? Is the USPS getting them since they can run E85? Will the Uplander maybe continue past 2008, since there are very few affordable vans for fleet buyers? EDIT: I re-read the AutoWeek article which says 'into 2009', so look for more at your local PO. The white Uplanders have replaced the boxy UPS looking trucks in many PO districts. And seen a few contractors/utilities with them instead of full sized vans. Big question is, did Ford/GM make a big error thinking minivans with sliding doors are…

SUV with mind of its own wins robot car race Sun Nov 4, 2007 4:03pm EST By Peter Henderson VICTORVILLE, California (Reuters) - A souped-up Chevy Tahoe sports utility vehicle with a mind of its own was declared the winner of a robot car race on Sunday after it traveled without help from humans for six hours and 60 miles around a California ghost town. Nicknamed Boss, the vehicle from Carnegie Mellon University of Pittsburgh won a $2 million prize in the third such race sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense, which wants robots eventually to drive military supply vehicles. The entrants -- including station wagons and a huge green military truck all decked out with…

Orion plant cheers Malibu work Oakland Co. factory will manufacture 10 to 25 percent of redesigned sedan, which has garnered glowing reviews Sharon Terlep | Link to Original Article @ The Detroit News A few months ago, workers at General Motors Corp.'s Orion assembly plant weren't sure their factory would survive past this decade. But now, they're gearing up to help build the Chevrolet Malibu, one of GM's most promising new cars. It's work that could add up to 300 jobs by next spring, local union leaders said. Workers learned this week that the sprawling factory in northern Oakland County will manufacture anywhere from 10 percent to 25 percent of the much-hyped new M…

I was browsing on Chevy website, and it said that the 2008 cobalts have following curb weights: Coupe: 2681 Sedan: 2747 The 2007 cobalts show the curb weights as Coupe: 2991 Sedan: 3216. (Source edmunds and carsdirect) That is a huge weight loss especially for the sedan. Wonder numbers are correct. If I am not wrong, the 2007 Cobalt specs on Chevy website were Coupe: 2850 Sedan: 2980 Wonder what is Chevy doing.

The November 5th issue of Autoweek offers great praise for the new Malibu. They praised the ride, styling, handling, trunks space, fit and finish. They dislikes the dash lights and the location of the paddle shifters on the wheel. Overall they feel they it the mark and said they were very impress after back to back drives in the Toyota. Som in the group compare the car the the VW Passat. They said the ride is a littler firmer than the avverage Chevy but that is what they need to attract the new buyers. The car tested was the LTZ. They also noted the Chrome trim was a great touch. They were also impressed it was the first Chevy to attract attention [outsid…

2008 Chevrolet Malibu Road Test Chevy catches a wave back into the mid-size game. by Paul A. Eisenstein http://www.thecarconnection.com/contact/in...asp?AuthorID=59 (2007-11-02) Get out of the fast lane, Toyota Camry. Move aside, Honda Accord. For the first time in a generation, General Motors is back with a game-changing mid-size sedan. And the imports better be worried, when they see the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu pull up in their rearview mirror. There was a time when Detroit, GM, in particular, dominated the mid-size market, but that's so far back, many of today's buyers likely won't even remember anything but the more lackluster offerings that f…

Hey all, I've been coming to the site a lot over the years but haven't had any real reason to post until now. I just saw a Chevrolet Lumina SS at lunch today. I got pictures and e-mailed them to FlyBrian. I was surprised since I have not seen any mention of this car anywhere. So hopefully FlyBrian can get those pictures up...they are crappy camera phone pictures, but they do show enough of the car that you can tell it is a rebadge. Perhaos they want to release it as a Chevy too since they are releasing the G8. -Bryan -------------------------------------- SPY SHOTS! Chevrolet Lumina SS

Linklity With Nov. 1 Press Embargo out look for more first drive of the Chevy. Chevy Delivers on the Hype By Daniel Pund, Senior Editor, Detroit Email Date posted: 11-01-2007 Here's the short answer on the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu: It's good. After almost a year's worth of buildup and anticipation, we have now driven the new Malibu. So the time has finally come to pass judgment. You'll forgive us if we were a bit skeptical about the vehicle that GM's car khan Bob Lutz calls "one of the most important in 100 years for Chevy." We've been through this more than a couple times with domestic c…

I saw a 2008 Malibu this week out driving through town. I didn't get a close look, as it was in oncoming traffic on a 5-lane center divided street, but it stuck out! I recognized it immediately. Beige metallic in color with chrome rims. This is in small town Iowa, south of the capital, our local dealership doesn't even have any yet. Has anyone else seen one out on the streets and highways?

If you read the review of the 2008 Malibu in the normal section of Edmunds (not Inside Line), you will find the following review. By looking at the engines and transmission they list, it shows that they just put the 2007 review beneath a picture of the 2008 model. Seems pretty lame if you ask me. Review

I took some flack when the volt was first shown for suggesting the prototype wasn't fully functional. Well now we can see the advanced technology for ourselves: http://sirymarketing.blogspot.com/2007/03/more-on-volt.html I'm not suggesting that there should be more under the hood at this point, but it seems some thought that there was.

Up Close with the Chevy Volt National Tour By Brian Dreggors 23.4mpg. Its not bad considering the 4000lbs of weight my V8 Oldsmobile is pulling along, not to mention the heavy air conditioning draw on another unseasonably humid Florida day combined with the extra-legal cruising speed. Yet as I proudly note my impressive fuel economy, I realize that if I were using the car I was driving to see, I would be averaging just north of 80mpg. And for nearly half of the 106-mile trip from Clearwater to Orlando, I wouldn't have been using gasoline at all. On Monday, myself and Michael (Smallchevy) made the daytrip from Orlando to Miami to see what we may recall one day as the f…

Linkity GM's full-size hybrid is the real deal. But is it better than a diesel? BY DAVE VANDERWERP, October 2007 This is GM's self-proclaimed "no excuses hybrid." You can have it all: a gargantuan SUV with seating for eight, big 6.0-liter V-8, towing, hauling, four-wheel-drive, and fuel economy. That's right, GM's first "full" hybrid boosts the 4WD Chevrolet Tahoe/ GMC Yukon's fuel economy by a whopping 43 percent on the EPA city cycle and five percent on the highway figure, to a V-6 Toyota Camry–shaming 20 mpg city rating, as well as a 20 mpg highway rating (21/22 city/highway on 2WD models). As part of this "no excuses" business, GM …
