Cadillac
Cadillac, founded in 1902 in Detroit, quickly gained a reputation for precision and innovation, becoming a leader in American luxury vehicles. Acquired by General Motors in 1909, it set standards with iconic models like the Eldorado and DeVille. Though it faced challenges in the modern era, Cadillac has reinvented itself with bold design and a shift toward electric vehicles, now leading GM’s luxury EV efforts with models like the Lyriq and Celestiq.

You don't hear a lot of executives admit when they or their company has made a blunder. When they do, it comes as a bit of a shock and helps you realize they are somewhat human. Case in point is Cadillac's marketing chief Uwe Ellinghaus telling Bloomberg they bit off bit a more than they could chew with the ELR pricing. "The MSRP was, indeed, a mouthful. We overestimated that customers would realize our competitors were naked at that price," said Ellinghaus. So why did Cadillac price the ELR so high? Well product planners believed if the ELR was close to the price of the Chevrolet Volt, people would go for the Volt. Also, the high price was seen as to signal this …

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 11, 2013 Bob Ferguson, Cadillac's global vice president revealed some interesting information about what's coming down the pipeline for the wreath and crest. For starters, Ferguson revealed that the next Cadillac CTS would be unveiled at March's New York Auto Show, confirming what we've been hearing for the past month or so. Furguson also said the CTS would be going on sale sometime in the fall. "It's just gorgeous. We are positioning that car as a step up, so there will be a marketing challenge to reposition that car," Ferguson told the Detroit Free Press just outside of the National Automobile Dealers Asso…

Cadillac's leadership is seeing a major change as current president Johan de Nysschen will be stepping down effective immediately. In his place will be Steve Carlisle who is currently president and managing director of GM Canada. “We appreciate Johan’s efforts over the last four years in setting a stronger foundation for Cadillac. Looking forward, the world is changing rapidly, and, beginning with the launch of the new XT4, it is paramount that we capitalize immediately on the opportunities that arise from this rate of change. This move will further accelerate our efforts in that regard,” said General Motors President Dan Ammann in a statement. No reason was giv…

In the latest Motor Trend, they do a king of bling competition between the new Esc ($66k) and the $93k as tested supercharged Range Rover. They tested the vehicles in there regular mode (performance, fit and finish etc) and then looked that the bling factoer (wheel size, chrome, side vents, TV's, nav screen size). The Escalade was definitely the perofmance king in every category except braking and off road ability. They were also quite pleased with the ride and handling inspite of the 22 inch wheels. They gave high marks to the interior and design. All in all the Escalade seemed to be the hands down winner even when price was not taken into consideration. They menti…

15 months ago, Cadillac announced that it would be raising the price of the new CTS. This move worried dealers as it would cause buyers to look away. It seems their fears were founded as sales of the CTS this past year dropped 3.8 percent when compared to last year. Cadillac is doing something about that. Automotive News got their hands on a memo issued to Cadillac dealers yesterday which announced that it would reduce sticker prices on most 2015 CTS models by $1,000 to $3,000. It also plans on increasing the amount of standard features in the CTS. "We're taking what we've seen are the more desirable optional features for customers and making them more readily available…

A three-ton, $54,000 mullet. BY DAVE VANDERWERP, PHOTOGRAPHY BY JEFFREY G. RUSSELL November 2006 Who would have predicted that this gratuitous union of a Chevy Avalanche with a Cadillac Escalade would have survived long enough to see a redesign? Certainly not us. When we first drove Cadillac’s pickup truck, we thought it made about as much sense as “an office desk that converts into a Hovercraft” or “mint-flavored Drano.” That was no skin off Cadillac’s nose, which found more than 40,000 takers from 2002 through 2005, apparently a sufficient number to justify a makeover similar to that of the Escalade SUV for 2007. This includes the 6.2-liter V-8 and six-speed a…

At the Detroit Auto Show in January, General Motors surprised the crowd with a concept coupe called the Cadillac Converj. Built on the same Voltec platform as the Chevrolet Volt, the Converj was seen as a way for GM to leverage the pricey ER-EV drivetrain in a vehicle that could sell at a premium price, recovering some of the development costs. According to Motor Trend, the Converj has been given the green light for production in 2011, a year after the Volt launches. When we talked to GM's Bob Kruse at the Detroit show, he indicated a production Converj would likely use the same powertrain as the Volt, although it could have different calibrations to allow somewhat higher…

It seems Cadillac has some updates in store for the XTS if some leaked pictures from Chinese website Autohome are the real deal. The pictures show the XTS taking some ideas from the CT6 and XT5. Up front is a broader, more upright grille with new headlights. Around back is a more sculpted trunk lid and L-shaped taillights. Powertrains are expected to carry over, meaning the U.S. will stick with the 3.6L V6 and twin-turbo 3.6L. Over in China, the XTS will stick with the 2.0L turbo-four. We wouldn't be surprised if there is an update for the CUE system. Source: Autohome View full article

Jamie LaReau Automotive News August 25, 2008 - 12:01 am ET Cadillac's wings have been clipped. While General Motors wrestles with financial problems and analyzes higher fuel economy rules, the automaker has put on hold plans to develop a stylish Cadillac competitor to the mid-sized Mercedes-Benz E class, as well as the future of the Escalade SUV. On the plus side, the CTS car will get more versions, a redesigned SRX crossover is on the horizon, and GM's high-mileage Volt technology likely will filter over to Cadillac. Small sedan: Second time's the charm? The BLS sedan and wagon, developed on the front-drive Saab 9-3 platform, are sold in Europe but have be…

The coming Cadillac CTS Coupe has been photographed almost naked, and as with the new Camaro, it is remarkably true to the concept. While this version in white is said to be a vanilla V6 sample, the CTS Coupe should be hot enough to effectively replace the outgoing XLR as the Caddy with the mostest when it's given some wheels large enough to match the body's presence. As for the timeline, the Coupe remains on schedule to arrive next year, preceded by the CTS Sportwagon, which will arrive this June. Hat tip to Matthew! Autoblog Autoweek's Spyshot Gallery

I'd love to be a product manager for Cadillac. IF they have the engineering resources, then they should definitely launch an assault with a wide range of vehicles off the stellar Sigma platform instead of the upcoming Zeta platform. Keep the Sigma platform exclusive to Cadillacs and use the Zeta platform for the mainstream brands (Holden, Chevy, Pontiac, & Buick). Instead of calling the CTS-based coupe, the CTC, they should call it the CSC for C-series Sport Coupe and CSW for C-series Sport Wagon. Do the same thing with the BLS-based coupe and call it the BSC for B-series Sport Coupe? How's that sound? Personally, I don't think a B-series range fits in with Cad…

My new issue of CAR magazine which is a British publication has a full page ad for the new BLS in it. In the ad it says "Independence Day - April 8th". This is when you can order the car, with the availability of a turbodiesel or petrol engines. The car does not look too bad in the ad, a smoothed over CTS I guess.

Last week, we brought you a story talking about what Global Cadillac's Vice President, Robert E. Ferguson would like to see happen with the ATS lineup. This week, we bring you a couple more items from the VP's wishlist. Edmunds had the chance to talk with Ferguson at the Detroit Auto Show and he said that he would like to have a diesel engine for most of the lineup in this decade. "I think that would speed our growth in Europe, and it would help us with environmental issues here and in Asia," said Ferguson. A good candidate for a diesel engine would be the new Escalade Ferguson went onto say. "I would love to see it in that time frame, but I can't commit to it. I thin…

The formula for beating the BMW 3-series may be real simple. Here goes:- (1) RWD- Alpha platform (~108" wheelbase, ~3300 lbs, 5 seats, 4-doors, styled like the Torana; sized between the 3-series and the IS) (2) Finish the Interior to the same standard as the CTS - not quite Audi, but good enough to combat BMW interiors (3) Keep it 4-cylinders only -- a 300hp / 270 lb-ft version of the 2.0 liter LNF engine. (4) Give it the excellent 6L50 tranny. (5) Keep it around $32,000 to start. That's it. You have just stuffed the 328 and matched the 335 in performance and beat them both in terms of not just price but also fuel economy with an EPA rating estimated to be aro…

Cadillac Most Improved Sales in Segment Cadillac is patting itself on the back because they're the top mover in the U.S. luxury market for 2010. Cadillac gained 1.6 points of share in the luxury market; the largest gain seen in any luxury brand. The gain puts Cadillac behind Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Lexus. Total sales in the U.S. for 2010 was 146,925 vehicles; an increase of 35 percent. The gains can be pointed towards new products which include the SRX Crossover, CTS Sport Wagon, and CTS Coupe. "Our positive momentum started with great new vehicles, but it also was carried forward with programs that provide Cadillac owners a higher level of service. Cadillac exp…

And from what we've heard, we can't wait to see it in action. We saw the new CTS at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, but Cadillac didn't have the full story on its tech features there. The Cadillac designers focused on making the navigation and entertainment interface usable and seamless. The maps will have a 3D aspect and will show traffic and weather. The stereo gets a hard drive for music storage, and the radio includes a pause feature. We don't have all the details yet, but Cadillac must have a bufferi…

This is simply an idea I got from the Audi A7 spyshots (CLS fighter) and is not based on any information about the NG STS itself. This is simply a proposal I would make if I worked within GM. Anyways... Why not make the STS a CLS/A7 "4-door coupe" type vehicle? The next CTS is growing and moving upscale, which would tell me that with a mid-level (non V-Series) V8, it would be a formidable 5-Series and E-Class, etc., competitor. Now, that is the market segment the current STS competes in, and I don't see a need for Cadillac to compete with two cars in one market segment. The BLS will be coming to fill the lower-end of the market that the CTS will be leaving, but that d…

Looked at my first CTS the other day and figured I'd post the pics I took, even though we've all seen hundreds of CTS pics by now. I'll say that it's quite sexy in person. Pictures do not do this car justice. However, the base model details really need to go away. The wheels are less than stellar and the black inserts in the fog light openings are horrible. They need an upgrade. The different headlights, however, I don't mind. I actually like the idea of differing headlights. Anyways, to the pics...

I posted on my thread in The Lounge but didn't know if people would see it there. I checked out my new CTS at the dealership last night (haven't taken delivery quite yet) and noticed that my car ('07 3.6L Sport with 6-speed manual) is rated at only 17 city/26 highway. That seems pretty crappy for a V6.....especially one with a manual tranny that probably has a pretty tall geared sixth gear. I don't really care.....but it just seems way low. Hell, my C6 is rated at 18/28....but that's an '06. I'm really thinking this has more to do with the new testing methods that I think were instituted by the EPA for '07 testing....? (BTW....the car is HOT...!)

Feast your eyes on this. Left Lane News got their hands on new spy shots which show off the upcoming Cadillac ATS-V Coupe with no camouflage at all. The ATS-V looks to our eyes as being a CTS-V that has been left in the wash for a bit too long. The front has an aggressive front splitter that appears to be made out of carbon fiber, along with mesh grilles for the front clip. There is a hood bulge with an air vent to help cooling. Around back is a spoiler sitting on the trunk lid. The pictures also reveal the ATS-V having massive disc brakes, possibly carbon ceramic. One item still up in the air is what powers the ATS-V. All signs appear to be pointing to TT 3.6 with 425…

Johan de Nysschen, head of Cadillac revealed that when the lifecycle of the XTS ends, there will be no replacement. In the XTS, the twin-turbo 3.6L produces 410 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque (down 10 horsepower and 61 pound-feet compared to the CTS). The twin-turbo 3.6L will be paired with a six-speed automatic. Models equipped with the twin-turbo will have a unique grille and deck lid identification. Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen is known for slipping out little bits of information. Case in point was earlier today when an analyst in a Facebook group said Cadillac would axing the V8 from most of their models aside from Cadillac CTS-V and Escalade. Johan joined the discussion and went on to correct this by stating that there will be a new V8 engine that will be purpose built for Cadillac. Purpose designed for Cadillac....the V8 Cadillac is alive and well today, and will be in even better shape tomorrow."…

Automakers try their hardest to keep new models under wraps for the longest time to keep the prying eyes of competitors and the media. But Cadillac is trying something a bit different. According to Automotive News, Cadillac will be revealing new vehicles about six or seven months ahead from the start of production. Currently, Cadillac reveals new vehicles about two to three months ahead. Why are they doing this? This is part of a push by Cadillac to work on improving the quality of new vehicles. Covering vehicles with camouflage hinders testing of aerodynamics and cooling systems in the real world. "If we want to achieve different results, we also have to be wil…

Cadillac has announced some details of their upcoming flagship sedan today. The 2016 CT6 will arrive at dealers in March with a starting pricetag of $54,990 (includes a $995 destination charge) for the base 2.0L turbo-four and climb to $84,460 for the top of the line Platinum trim. Next will be a 3.6L V6 with 335 horsepower and all-wheel drive. Finally, there is the twin-turbo 3.0L V6 with 400 horsepower and all-wheel drive. Details on the CT6 Plug-In Hybrid will be revealed at a later date. Cadillac has filled the CT6 with a a…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 20, 2013 The Cadillac Elmiraj concept made quite the splash last week at Pebble Beach with a number of people talking about it. It could be that the Elmiraj could make the transfer from show car to production car. Automotive News had the chance to speak with Cadillac's senior vice president of global operations, Bob Ferguson. Ferguson said that the Elmiraj “is very doable." "Sometimes you go through these exercises to make a design statement. This car is marketable. It's practical enough to be put through the production process," said Ferguson. "Our dealers really want a vehicle like this." If given the green li…

For almost a decade, Cadillac has been using a three-letter naming system which is (insert letter here) followed by T and S. Small sedans such as the ATS start towards the beginning of the alphabet while larger sedans such as the XTS go towards the end. However, not all of Cadillac's vehicles follow this. For example, the SRX crossover and Escalade. Many complain that Cadillac's nomenclature is confusing and will only get worse when more models are added. Cadillac's marketing chief Uwe Ellinghaus is one of them. "There's no doubt with an expanding product portfolio we need to revise our entire nomenclature," Ellinghaus told reporters at Geneva. How Cadillac plans to ch…

The rumors of the flagship emanating from Cadillac have been written and talked about for the past few years. But as of this week, the flagship appears to be given the green light as evidenced by spy shots. While General Motors has made sure to layer on the cladding to disguise many details of the new flagship, there are a few items we can pick out. For one, the design ideals from the new CTS are very apparent in the flagship's design with sharp-edges and a blocky design. We can also make out the large grille up front. The new flagship is rumored to be riding on GM's new Omega rear-drive platform. Powertrains are up in the air, but we wouldn't be surprised if the twin-t…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 10, 2012 Its been a few months since we last heard anything about the rumored Omega RWD platform that could be underpinning future Cadillac flagships. Our last report in September said a sedan and hard top are in the works and will be appearing sometime in 2015. A new report from Car and Driver says GM has a few Omega vehicles on the way, with the first one arriving sometime in 2015. Omega will take hold of the larger RWD vehicles ranging from a midsize luxury sedan (CTS, 5-Series, E-Class) up to length of 207 inches (about the same length of an Audi A8L). The first vehicle in question is the replacement for the…

The last time Cadillac offered a diesel engine was back in the early eighties and was a horrid engine, tarnishing Cadillac's reputation and vehicles. But now, Cadillac is once again thinking about a diesel engine. Don Butler, Cadillac’s marketing vice president said in a interview at the LA Auto Show that Cadillac was considering a diesel engine for vehicles sold outside the United States. He added a diesel engine “could be a potential hedge in the U.S. because of diesel’s great torque, great performance with great efficiency.” “We absolutely mean it when we say we aim to compete with the best of the best without compromises. And if that means making the right powertrai…

Having read many of the other web sites with the new CTS V Sport reviews things look very good. Even Consumer reports loved it and stated it drove better than the Germans. The CUE is still a point of complaint. I hope Cadillac will address it soon. These reports have been out all week and no one here even mentioned anything?

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/04/detroit...lac-srx-reborn/ Almost exactly a year after revealing the Provoq Concept, Cadillac is debuting the redesigned 2010 SRX wearing essentially the same suit of clothes. At that time, the Provoq was thought to be a preview of a new smaller crossover called the BRX, but Cadillac informed us last summer that the "BRX" was actually the all-new SRX. We'll be seeing the new SRX in production form at the Detroit Auto Show, and while automakers often throw the term "all-new" around, in this case it really seems to apply. There is almost nothing carried over to this version of the SRX compared to the old one, although many of the greasy…

C&G Spies! 2008 Cadillac STS-V C&G member Frank Budzyn (NOS2006) was lucky enough to both see the next STS-V without camo and have a means to photograph it on hand. Check out the photos below. The unclad exterior shot exposes what we've already seen to be identifiers of the refreshed 2008 STS line - cleared 'international' LED taillamp clusters. The decklid retains the same aggressive spoiler treatment as the current STS-V, but the lower bumper valance houses what appear to be new dual Euro-style reflectors, perhaps rear foglamps. The interior appears largely unchanged from what we see today. With the current STS-V pushing 469hp from a supercharged 4.4l Nor…

The very first pictures of my 2008 Cadillac CTS with the FE3 package and 6-speed manual. This car is equipped with every available option, sans AWD, as that is not available with the FE3 package. These pictures were taken just after the car was delivered to the dealership and prior to prepping the car. I take delivery on Tuesday evening. By the way, it is interesting to note that these most recent examples of the 08 CTS sport much tighter exterior panel gaps than I have seen on any vehicle. The front fascia to hood gap is practically non-existent, which was a long standing sore spot for the first generation CTS. I couldn’t locate a single misaligned panel or trim piece i…

I am confident in upgraded interiors coming from GM for Cadillac and I lov all their exterior styling, that leavs Caddy with one big area to catch up with, again, and that is powertrains. Cadillac had more than caught up in 2004 I thought but because thy seem to be half a generation behind the imports have passed them this year. 255 hp from the 3.6 was fine a 2 years ago, now it is very average, same thing with the northstar making 320 hp. 5 speed autos are goo, especially GMs since they are world class but they need to get with the 6 speeds. Here is what I think GM nds for Caddy and we pretty much now they are getting some with the dirct injection updrades on the…

Okay, so I have had my new CTS for a few days (sorry, no new pictures yet) and I can make some general observations about the car: 1. If you are sport inclined, get the FE3 package. Don't be afraid of what some (MotorWeek) say about it being too rough as it isn't. Yes, it is fairly taut, roughly equivalent to the V-Series and a just a tad bit stiffer than the first year 03 CTS's sport suspension (though quite a bit stiffer than the 04 and later sport suspension, which I felt was overly soft). However, it is almost never harsh or jarring and is, IMHO, a fabulous balance between imparting luxury and still being seriously aggressive. It easily trumps the BMW 5 series sport…

Today I saw the most current version of the DTS driving alongside me on a major boulevard. I was thinking about how this car had "cleaned up nicely" and that there is nothing too overstyled about the Cadillac brand anymore (though I don't like the new heavy "eggcrate" CTS grille). At any rate, since it tends to be hot in inland Northern California, I remembered how Cadillac typically offered a cloth interior on the DeVille series. It was nicely detailed and very comfortable. Because of the heat, I will always own a car with a cloth interior. I was thinking that, on one model, possibly the DTS in Trim Level 1 form, a cloth interior should be offered in a couple of gen…

Looking at this comparison report with the BMW 325e and the Mercedes 190E, the little Caddy comes out not too bad. Even 30 years ago the German car buyer would never have considered a Caddy, regardless of how good it was. Disclaimers: 1. This is only a review of the drivetrain. You all already have your opinions on the interior, etc. 2. I stepped out of my '04 CTS 3.6 auto into the CTS 2.8 manual. This was a direct comparison. 3. I drive my husband's manual transmission Passat regularly, so I'm not a manual newbie. The 2.8 seemed very rough. Noisy in fact. I felt I was in a substantially lesser car then my current CTS. At 80mph it was turning a very loud 3,000 rpm in 6th. Not impressive compaired to my car, and certainly not better then a S/C Riviera that can silently woosh along at 80mph doing about 2200 rpm. The gear shift throws are perfect. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 6, 2012 Some new spy shots have come in today showing a camouflaged Cadillac ELR doing some hot-weather testing somewhere in the Southwest U.S. Despite GM's best efforts to cover-up the ELR mule, you can easily tell the three-bar grille and corporate crest visible on all Cadillacs. The overall shape is similar to the Converj concept shown back in 2009. The ELR is expected to come with the Voltec powertrain from Volt. Expect the ELR to have more power since it will weigh more than the Volt. A larger battery is also being talked. Source: Automobile Magazine William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gear…

It WAS built to compete with the luxury intermediates (GS, M, 5-series, E-class, A6) I guess I was just emotionally taking up the CTS's cause as being the intermediate Caddy. But unfortunately an STS that's only five inches longer, yet cuts a bit of a similar presence to the M and the GS kinda steps on the CTS's toes in Cadillac's lineup. And them you have the BLS in Europe, further making the CTS look kinda weird. In basic, as far as the CTS goes, I'm left feeling like the name should basically be killed off in favor of a new rear-drive compact Caddy that can line up against the G, C-class, and dreaded 3-series. What also complicated matters for …

Cadillac loads up on safety Built in Lansing, the redone STS adds radar, cameras and computer. Scott Burgess | The Detroit News MILFORD -- Bad drivers need Cadillac's 2008 STS sedan. Good drivers will relish it. General Motors Corp.'s luxury brand has loaded up the refreshed luxury sedan with radar, cameras and an onboard computer. They collectively protect drivers from spinning out on slick roads, inadvertently drifting into another lane or swerving into a vehicle in their blind spot. The luxury sedan can even warn a driver of an approaching vehicle. But safety was only part of the story Friday as Cadillac showcased the new STS at its Milford Proving Grounds. The ST…

If there was one vehicle that was the talk during Monterey Car Week, it would have to be the Cadillac Escala concept. Unlike other concepts that Cadillac has shown during this time, various ideas will appear on future Cadillac models. "There's a lot of stuff that's being captured here. All of that won't necessarily find itself coming out in one car; it will be spread through the portfolio," said Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac's president to Automotive News.
