Cadillac
Cadillac, founded in 1902 in Detroit, quickly gained a reputation for precision and innovation, becoming a leader in American luxury vehicles. Acquired by General Motors in 1909, it set standards with iconic models like the Eldorado and DeVille. Though it faced challenges in the modern era, Cadillac has reinvented itself with bold design and a shift toward electric vehicles, now leading GM’s luxury EV efforts with models like the Lyriq and Celestiq.

What Needs Work: Standard seats are too short and too mushy. Bottom Line: Let's see. It looks great and it's the fastest production sedan we've ever tested. In the 2009 model year, Cadillac should be releasing a crossover, smaller than the SRX, called the BRX. Along with that, the CTS gets a redesign. Along with the sedan, coupe and convertible versions are expected also, but later on. The SRX should be getting a redesign in the 2008 model year. For an interior shot, select the following link (the pic will be on the homepage): www.gminsidenews.com

I am confident in upgraded interiors coming from GM for Cadillac and I lov all their exterior styling, that leavs Caddy with one big area to catch up with, again, and that is powertrains. Cadillac had more than caught up in 2004 I thought but because thy seem to be half a generation behind the imports have passed them this year. 255 hp from the 3.6 was fine a 2 years ago, now it is very average, same thing with the northstar making 320 hp. 5 speed autos are goo, especially GMs since they are world class but they need to get with the 6 speeds. Here is what I think GM nds for Caddy and we pretty much now they are getting some with the dirct injection updrades on the…

Jamie LaReau Automotive News August 25, 2008 - 12:01 am ET Cadillac's wings have been clipped. While General Motors wrestles with financial problems and analyzes higher fuel economy rules, the automaker has put on hold plans to develop a stylish Cadillac competitor to the mid-sized Mercedes-Benz E class, as well as the future of the Escalade SUV. On the plus side, the CTS car will get more versions, a redesigned SRX crossover is on the horizon, and GM's high-mileage Volt technology likely will filter over to Cadillac. Small sedan: Second time's the charm? The BLS sedan and wagon, developed on the front-drive Saab 9-3 platform, are sold in Europe but have be…

At the Detroit Auto Show in January, General Motors surprised the crowd with a concept coupe called the Cadillac Converj. Built on the same Voltec platform as the Chevrolet Volt, the Converj was seen as a way for GM to leverage the pricey ER-EV drivetrain in a vehicle that could sell at a premium price, recovering some of the development costs. According to Motor Trend, the Converj has been given the green light for production in 2011, a year after the Volt launches. When we talked to GM's Bob Kruse at the Detroit show, he indicated a production Converj would likely use the same powertrain as the Volt, although it could have different calibrations to allow somewhat higher…

By MARTON PETTENDY 22 January 2009 GM HOLDEN today postponed the Australian reintroduction of General Motors’ flagship Cadillac brand for the second time – this time indefinitely. Company chairman and managing director Mark Reuss made the announcement this afternoon, citing an inability to do justice to the troubled US car-maker’s flagship luxury marque in the current economic climate. “It’s a tough announcement for me and the Holden team here today, but we’ve made the decision and direction in the last week or so that we’re going to indefinitely delay the Cadillac introduction to Australia,” he said. “We only really had one chance to launch the brand here in Aust…

GM Kills The SRX Plug-In Hybrid.. For Now... William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 1, 2011 For the past few months, the rumors of a SRX Plug-In Hybrid have been making the rounds. Using technology from the Chevrolet Volt, the SRX Plug-In Hybrid was expected to go on sale within a couple of years. Now, Reuters is reporting the SRX Plug-In Hybrid has been put out to pasture. Sources at GM said by the time the SRX PHEV was ready for production, the Theta platform would be at the end of it's life cycle, adding to the cost of the vehicle. This is the third time GM has canned some sort of PHEV project over the past few years. Reuters sugges…

Article Quotes: General Motors, aiming to reverse a sales slump for its Cadillac luxury brand, plans to introduce a top-range car and a redesigned SRX utility vehicle next year, an executive said. The car will have rear-wheel drive and arrive in late 2015, Dave Leone, Cadillac’s chief engineer, told reporters in California today ahead of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The Detroit-based automaker showed an Elmiraj concept that reflected its vision for such a car at the same event last year. The largest U.S. automaker is counting on an expanded stable of passenger cars and the new SRX, its top-selling model, to lure buyers away from German luxury marques and To…

Earlier today, General Motors presented its Viability Plan to the U.S. Treasury Department, outlining how GM plans to restructure, what it needs to turn around the company and how it plans to spend our tax dollars. If you took the time to look through the 117 page document (we're guessing not many), you might have caught a few interesting peaks into GM's future, including the first photo of the production Cadillac CTS Coupe. Prior to this, we've only been able to speculate on the final form from the various spy photos we've seen and the concept unveiled last year. The document also gives a few other details, including that production will start in 2010 and that at least o…

Jamie Lareau Automotive News June 8, 2009 - 12:01 am ET DETROIT -- General Motors wants to eliminate hundreds of Cadillac dealerships in metro markets to make the brand's per-store sales comparable with those of Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and BMW. In a dealer broadcast on Tuesday, June 2, GM sales chief Mark LaNeve said some Cadillac dealers might be surprised to learn they will be terminated by Oct. 31, 2010, said GM spokesman Pete Ternes. As part of the company's plan to winnow its dealership network, GM wants to align the number of Cadillac dealerships in major markets to those of its competitors. "Our current footprint of 1,400 Cadillac dealers, most of wh…

GM to put electric Cadillac Converj into production General Motors Co. has decided to produce the Cadillac Converj, an extended-range electric car using the same technology as the Chevrolet Volt, The Detroit News has learned. Cadillac included the Converj, a concept car that wowed industry critics and the public at the 2009 North American International Auto Show, in a presentation made to the automaker's board of directors Nov. 2, according to sources familiar with the production plan. A production date has not been set, and it likely will be a few years before consumers can buy a Converj. A Cadillac spokesman declined comment. Before GM emerged from …

CELESTIQ using defining design, technology and performance will challenge the ultra-luxury auto space. Helping to achieve this will be the use of GM's extensive additive manufacturing capabilities and supplier network, featuring 3D printed parts, the most used in any of GM's vehicle programs to date. I was watching CSI Miami today on OnDemand and they play two '08 CTS ads. The first one's tag line is "You can either be the nail that sticks out.... or you can be the hammer." but the best one goes "In the luxury car game, it no longer about if your car has a 40 gigabyte hard drive, it's not about pop up navigation screens, it's not about ultra-view sunroofs, or Zexxxxx wood trim..... The question is... when you turn your car on... does it return the favor?" Then the hot woman behind the wheel gives a smirk and raises her eyebrow. Run' em everywhere GM

ok, I think we all agree that the NG CTS is amazing. in order to reinvigorate the srx and sts till a replacment comes along cadillac should do this. Take the 300 hp 3.6 DI and replace all other v6 optioned cars with it. 6 speed auto o everything, speed the DI northstar to production making about 360-380 hp and toss it i everything with a northstar, and tweak and tune the SC northstar for 500 hp so cadd ycan matc bmws numbers. Give the STS a moderate MCE rewroking and maybe a slight one to the XLR and your fully competitive again till the next NG products come out. What do you guys think?

Hybrid Escalade to be offered in fall of 2007 By JAMIE LAREAU AND RICHARD TRUETT | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 02/01/06, 11:19 am et General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner confirmed that Cadillac will get its first hybrid vehicle in the fall of 2007 with the 2008 Escalade SUV. Wagoner made the announcement Wednesday at the Baltimore transmission plant during a ceremony to name the plant as the builder of GM’s hybrid transmissions. The hybrid version of the Escalade will use a new transmission made by GM’s Allison division. The two-mode hybrid system will be similar to what GM will use in the hybrid version of a Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon SUVs. The hybrid …

I rented a 2006 DTS (not the base version) and drove it for three days, and enough distance to use most of a full tank of gasoline: 1) Even though I am 6' 1", I had to lean halfway or more out the door to grab the handle in the armrest to close it. 2) The front seating area is so wide that I had to place my arms out as if doing the chicken dance to rest my left arm on the armrest in the door and my right arm on the center armrest / console cover. 3) The switches for the trip computer are way off on the upper left side of the dash, where they are hard to reach and see. 4) The switches in the armrest are surrounded by cheap hard plastic - the Malibu and 2006 Ta…

I was looking around at dealers for 08s the other day and came across the new 08 CTS. I took a picture of it with my cell phone, but have no way of getting it to the computer. I will keep it on my phone til I get to WM and get something to transfer it. First impressions, beautifully styled and small panel gaps. The seats are muy comfortable. The interior was beautiful with all the panels lining up and the soft touch dash. I liked how it was laid out. The car I sat in listed for a tick over $40K. It did not have the DI 3.6 and had the base wheel design. I really like the new grille. My favorite design cue is the rear flanks of the fenders and bulge out to the ba…

It WAS built to compete with the luxury intermediates (GS, M, 5-series, E-class, A6) I guess I was just emotionally taking up the CTS's cause as being the intermediate Caddy. But unfortunately an STS that's only five inches longer, yet cuts a bit of a similar presence to the M and the GS kinda steps on the CTS's toes in Cadillac's lineup. And them you have the BLS in Europe, further making the CTS look kinda weird. In basic, as far as the CTS goes, I'm left feeling like the name should basically be killed off in favor of a new rear-drive compact Caddy that can line up against the G, C-class, and dreaded 3-series. What also complicated matters for …

On GM Media in Europe they had tons of photographs of the new Cadillac CTS-D Estate Wagon with the 2.9L Diesel V6 Turbo and they were sweet. If I got any CTS it would be a CTS Estate Wagon and it prolly would have a Diesel as well but no AWD. Am I the only one drooling over this thing. So is anyone in love with this thing like I am... Of course I would rather have an STS V6 with performance package and Brembo brakes and summer tires or a DTS Performance. But the CTS Estate Wagon is pretty sweet.

...I loved it! Yup, you heard right. Okay, it's no CTS or 5 series, and it's architecturally pretty old, but if you're looking for a roomy, comfortable and relaxing car to drive, with a really nice interior, this is the car. These are the wheels to take if you're driving cross-country. The interior is really, really nice, I think. Tastefully done, nice materials, very attractive design. Great stereo too and very comfortable seats. The ride is very smooth but not numb, if you know what I mean. Perfectly tuned for the kind of car it is. And you know, it handles pretty good too. Well, if you take down some twisties at 10/10ths (oh yes I did ) the all-season tires pro…

2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe Full Test Link We all make our own fashion choices. Neckties, tiger-print parachute pants, 4-inch heels, body piercings or tattoo art (hopefully not as an ensemble). Sometimes it's painful to be a conforming nonconformist. Sometimes it's better to buy a sport sedan. What does this have to do with the arrival of the two-door 2011 Cadillac CTS Performance Coupe? It's about fashion. The kind of fashion that comes at the expense of comfort, utility or functionality — or simply being able to pass through an airport metal detector without setting off the alarm. If Style Is Everything and Function Is Nothing... Then our rear-wheel-drive 2011…

Although I usually prefer Cadillacs of the seventies, this unrestored 1965 Calais Coupe looks superb: http://cgi.ebay.com/...=item3f0e0ae7ff To think all this style and class was incorporated into the most "basic" Cadillac offered! This example features power windows (including vent windows), power door locks (with the button being the actual door lock lever high-up on the door), power seat and guide-matic headlamp control. It was in such gorgeous original shape I thought it was a great representation that even the "base" model featured great styling!

I don't think many people cared to look through the huge press releases when the Tahoe debuted, but there is some interesting info on the Escalade: The iconic design cues that made the Escalade a cultural phenomenon are enhanced with the 2007 model – cues that established a new design language for all Cadillac vehicles. The ’07 model also incorporates elements introduced on the landmark Sixteen concept vehicle. These elements include vertical headlamp housing with HID tri-segment lighting elements and new, stylish front fender vents. With all the talk of a new Saturn and Global RWD for most of GM's other divisions. Not much has been said about Cadillac's future. They've got a good line up now but they CANNOT afford to sit on their laurels. Are all of their replacement programs on Sigma still on track??? Or to the 2.8L V6 in general? It gets the same fuel economy with less horsepower/torque. Supposedly it's the same size on the outside and costs about the same to make anyway. Which makes me wonder why they use the turbocharged 2.8 in the Saabs and why not just the 3.6. Is it just to say, "look, it's turbocharged!"

Since the launch of the XT4 with the rather anemic (if more refined) LSY engine, many (including myself) had questioned why GM does not offer the Tripower 310 bhp / 348 lb-ft (L3B) 2.7T 4-cylinder in the XT4 (at least) as an option. To a lesser extent some have also questioned why the LSY is putting out a mere 237bhp / 258 lb-ft whereas the outgoing LTG engine is good for 265~272 bhp / 295 lb-ft. Is it just so that it can have 258 lb-ft arrive @ 1,500 rpm? Now, we have the answer... It's the 9-speed Automatics. Adopting the 9-speed automatics is deemed a priority for refinement and fuel economy. The new GM-Ford 9TXX transmissions, jointly developed with Ford pro…

Cadillac BLS Wagon: the lowdown What does a fledgling brand like Cadillac do when it needs to expand its range in Europe? Simple. It nabs a compact exec estate from sister firm Saab, swaps the badge and some styling details, and hey presto - the new Caddy BLS Wagon. The small estate will arrive in autumn 2007 costing around £21,500. Although Cadillac is relatively new to the European market, it has never sold a wagon in its 104-year history anywhere in the world. So what's different from the Saab estate? The BLS Wagon has the unmissable Caddy egg-crate grille, more perpendicular headlights, and the upright rear lights that have come to characterise the US brand; you w…

The editorial assault on the GMT-900s has begun. Motor Trend compared the Land Rover LRS, Mercedes GL450 and Escalade and you can bet your dollar which one took last place. Hehehe...its a shame for sure. Oh and a quote from a reader letter "Sure the Tahoe beat the Expedition in a comparison test, but lets see it go against a Sequoia."

I just got a brochure for the Escalade today, even though I didn't ask for it. It looks amazingly nice and is of very good qualit. Here are some crappy pictures from my camera phone (chopped versions are at cadillac.com):

So, after more than 5 years with my 3.2l powered, 5 speed manual (all options, sans automatic) CTS, I just ordered a 2008 CTS in Raven Black (cashmere interior) with the 3.6DI V6, 6speed manual + summer tire package and all other options sans AWD and the engine block heater. The total MSRP was just a tick over 45k, which is a bit more than I had expected. I should have a build date soon. -Mak 03 CTS with 5 on the floor

I just saw a Cadillac commercial for the employee discount, I think the first I've ever seen. Anyway, at the end they advertise a base SRX V6 for $32,000. That's as much as a CTS with the same engine, and far less than the X5 and RX330, which indicates how the market is recieving its premium price. The SRX really needs a significant interior overhaul.

Here are a few paragraphs from Dan Neil's review of the Cadillac CTS: My favorite piece of recent movie dialogue comes from the animated tour de force "Ratatouille." The ruthless food critic Anton Ego has just had his heart melted by the little rodent chef at Gusteau's, causing him to reevaluate his work, his purpose: "In many ways the work of a critic is easy," he writes in his column. "We risk very little and enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. . . . But there are times when a critic risks something and that is in the discovery and the defense of the new." So here's a new thought, worthy of defending: Cadillac makes …

Cadillac is finally showing off the new XTS sedan today at the LA Auto Show. The XTS takes the place of the DTS and STS sedans to become Cadillac's large sedan. And large it is with a length of 202 in., width of 72.9in., height of 59.1 in., and rides on a wheelbase that is 111.7 in. Cadillac says those measurements help give the XTS 40 in. of rear legroom and a trunk capacity of 18 cubic feet. Styling is very close to the XTS Platinum concept shown at last years North American International Auto Show. Step inside the XTS and your greeted with either perforated or supple black leather with french, white stitching. The dash is covered in leather with a handful of accents…

LANSING – General Motors Co. celebrated the start of production of the new Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon today with the first vehicle rolling off the line at the Lansing Grand River assembly plant. The Detroit automaker hopes the station wagon will appeal to customers looking for luxury, fuel efficiency and space. William Mack, Cadillac CTS product manager, said the company expects to sell 4,000 to 7,000 of the CTS Sport Wagon each year. At the same time, GM has also launched a revamped version of the SRX luxury crossover, which some analysts say could compete for the same types of customers. Workers celebrated the new vehicle, which adds four models to the line, inclu…

Last Cadillac DTS Heads Into The Bulgari Collection William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 27, 2011 2011 Cadillac DTS - The Last One This week, the final Cadillac DTS rolled off the assembly line at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant. The DTS, draped in black paint ends two eras for the crest; the use of the De Ville nameplate and Northstar V8. The last DTS will be heading off to Nicola Bulgari's collection of vehicles. Bulgari, the vice chairman of the luxury goods firm that bears his family’s name is also a avid collector of cars. His collection includes more than a dozen Cadillac vehicles, including two 1940s limousines used by the Vatican …

Seems like they always have these doesnt it? I open the pages of my new Motor Trend, and see immediately: V-8 SPORT SEDAN SHOOTOUT M45 meets 545i meets E500 meets CADDY STS. I knew the result without opening the damn magazine. STS in last place. So what comments did they have on it? If I'm allowed to scan the entire article in here, I'll do so glady so you guys can see it. The idea in a nutshell is "GM's premium division continues to improve, but so do the rest." Complaints were that the Cadillac had too much interior noise and that switching from touring to performance was a nuisance. The running order were as follows; 1st Place: BMW 545i 2nd Pl…

Link to original article @ TCC.com Leo Burnett Gets Axed on Caddy Account In what can hardly be called a surprise, General Motors Monday fired long-time Cadillac ad agency Leo Burnett. Burnett, which had lost half the business a few months ago after Liz Vanzura moved from HUMMER to run the Cadillac brand, will continue to handle Pontiac advertising and various GM retail business ads. The agency will hand over reins to Boston-based Modernista on Oct. 1. Modernista, which also handles HUMMER, was tapped by Vanzura to handle Caddy's CTS, SRX, performance V-Series models and other projects a few months ago. Burnett was to continue on STS and Escalade. But the arrangement…

A Cadillac spokesperson has confirmed to Car and Driver that the upcoming Cadillac Escalade iQ will eventually also be built in a long-wheelbase form called the Escalade iQL. The Escalade iQ wheelbase already spans 136.2 inches, roughly 15 inches longer than the standard wheelbase Escalade ICE. The overall length of the Escalade iQ clocks in at 224.3 inches, just 2.7 inches shorter than the long wheelbase ICE Escalade ESV and over a foot longer than the standard Escalade. Cadillac need not look far to find the long wheelbase components; the Chevrolet Silverado EV on the same platform rides on a 145.7-inch wheelbase with an overall length of 233.1 inches. Cadi…

IL Exclusive: Michael Jordan Picks Cadillac XLR-V as First American Car Date posted: 03-21-2006 CHICAGO — Perhaps taking a cue from rapper Snoop Dogg, who buttonholed Dieter Zetsche for a new Chrysler 300C, former Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan took delivery of one of the first 2006 Cadillac XLR-Vs in the country from none other than Cadillac general manager Jim Taylor. IL has learned that Taylor had his team personally deliver the car to Jordan's home here. In fact, Cadillac drove over an entire semi-truck with three XLR-Vs — representing each of the three exterior colors (Infra Red, Black Raven, Light Platinum) — so that the basketball legend could pick his favor…

I don't know if the info in this article is just speculated rumor or an actual fact based on a reliable source (I know quite a bit of internet "news" is more of the former than latter). I think the Insignia is a great product, but it belongs at B-P-G. If Cadillac is going to receive an Epsilon based model to slot below the CTS (which I believe it will at some point; I don't believe the corporation will follow through with the Alpha platform), then it should have its own unique "Art & Science" inspired design. Link:Visit My Website Source: Motor Authority I still don't quite get the great debate over offering the 2010 LaCrosse and the Insignia in the same lineup…

[source: Motor Trend] Comparison: 2009 Cadillac CTS-V vs. 2010 Jaguar XFR Cadillac's CTS-V Proved it Can Beat the BMW M5 but How About the New 510 Horsepower Jaguar XFR? First Place: Cadillac CTS-V Dances like a butterfly, stings like a 556-hp bee. Lacks the flair of the XFR but exquisite ride and handling balance make it the superior driver's car. Second Place: Jaguar XFR Superior style and brilliant power delivery hide chassis limitations. Tail happiness at the limit discourages go-for-broke driving. Like Tyson, this one will bite you. The last time we did this (Mirror, Mirror, July 2009) the American va…

[source: Motortrend] Comparison: 2009 BMW M5 vs 2009 Cadillac CTS-V Mirror, Mirror: The $89,325 Munich Benchmark vs. the $60,700 Motown Doppelganger. Which is the Fairest Supersedan of Them All? FIRST PLACE: Cadillac CTS-V Glitzy exterior and cabin plus some finish issues detract from premium feel, but delivers where it counts. A Corvette ZR1 in four-door attire -- and a bargain to boot. SECOND PLACE: BMW M5 Masterfully executed, but priced accordingly. Handling not on par with BMW's best, though, and V-10 power no match for Caddy's supercharged V-8.

So my nephew is a test drive consultant who racks many miles on new test vehicles that are at or near production build levels. He drives everything, currently mostly from Dodge/Chrysler and Cadillac, although he showed me several top drawer vettes as well. He is on prescribed routes and when near me, we meet up for dinner or lunch. Last Saturday he pulled up in a black CT6. Cadillac really has done a great job on this car. He took me for a short ride (against the rules, but I demanded it), and I got to dash fondle and take in all the details and surfaces and textures and materials. It is far better than CTS in every way, which makes me wonder how they will sell …

Looked at my first CTS the other day and figured I'd post the pics I took, even though we've all seen hundreds of CTS pics by now. I'll say that it's quite sexy in person. Pictures do not do this car justice. However, the base model details really need to go away. The wheels are less than stellar and the black inserts in the fog light openings are horrible. They need an upgrade. The different headlights, however, I don't mind. I actually like the idea of differing headlights. Anyways, to the pics...

The very first pictures of my 2008 Cadillac CTS with the FE3 package and 6-speed manual. This car is equipped with every available option, sans AWD, as that is not available with the FE3 package. These pictures were taken just after the car was delivered to the dealership and prior to prepping the car. I take delivery on Tuesday evening. By the way, it is interesting to note that these most recent examples of the 08 CTS sport much tighter exterior panel gaps than I have seen on any vehicle. The front fascia to hood gap is practically non-existent, which was a long standing sore spot for the first generation CTS. I couldn’t locate a single misaligned panel or trim piece i…

Cadillac was nice enough to invite me to an SRX test drive. Also available were the SRX's prime competitors: Lexus RX350, BMW X5 and Mercedes GLK. Without getting into all the numbers, I'll just share my driving impressions of all four. First off, the SRX is a really nice crossover. Looks good, and it's interior is certainly right up there with the others - actually maybe even the best. I had afew preconcieved notions going in. I was expecting the the SRX's 3.0L to be woefully underpowered. It wasn't as bad as I had expected, but it was a bit underpowered - actually more like under-torqued. The trans delivers beautifully smooth shifts, but sometimes finds itself flat…
