Dear 2006, I really enjoyed the Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins Diesel that the Chrysler Corporation let me borrow for a few months. It pulled around a big jeep and a bubble and I went all over America in it. I liked my butt being tosty in the heated seats, and the nav that got us lost (sometimes asking me to make U-turns with a huge trailer) and the Sirius Radio with Howard and Bubba. I wish it was still 2006 sometimes.

I don't understand why Chrysler doesn't use the 1997 Chronos concept as more of a basis for the Imperial? I love everything about this concept, and it would be a nice break from the blockiness that all new Chryslers seem to have. This concept looks fresh even almost 10 years later. More Pics

DIANA T. KURYLKO | Automotive News Posted Date: 11/22/05 Mercedes-Benz has decided to keep the 26-year-old G-Class SUV in production after 2006 because of solid demand for the massive vehicle. The 5,545-pound G-Class, formerly named the Gelaendewagen, is based on a military vehicle. It was launched in 1979, and was scheduled to disappear in the 2007 model year, when a new full-sized SUV is launched. "We found there is still demand for it," a Mercedes-Benz USA spokesman said last week. U.S. sales totaled 1,491 units in 2004 and are running at a slightly slower pace this year. Sales through October totaled 1,088, down 8.4 percent from the year-ago period. …

Chrysler crashes limo market Stretch 300 takes on Lincoln Town Car, extended Cadillac DTS Josee Valcourt / Detroit News story Think the interior of the Chrysler 300 is cavernous? A stretched version of the sedan -- about six inches longer -- is in the works as the automaker prepares to venture into the limousine business. DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group is in final talks with Lima, Ohio-based Accubuilt Inc. to produce mini-stretched 300 sedans similar to an elongated version Accubuilt created for display last month at the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show, a performance and custom vehicle event held annually in Las Vegas. A report from The Windsor Star says Chrysler is planning very soon to announce the next-generation of minivans. “We’ve been told (by Chrysler Canada) that Windsor Assembly is in position for new products. We’re waiting for an official announcement that could come any time now,” said Mike Lovric, Unifor Local 444 vice-president. Lovric went onto say that he has received a 2014 production schedule that shows layoff weeks slated for November and December, leading to the possibility that the plant could be retooled and production beginning sometime in 2015. Trying to figure out what Chrysler has in mind for their next-generation minivans has been difficult. CEO Sergio Marc…

Carpoint is Australia's best motoring website (Drive is pandering rubbish), and their reviews are always very, very fair and balanced. They're never as pretentious and arrogant as British reviews, biased and poorly-written as Motor Trend reviews, or dull and boring like all other American reviews (don't believe me? Pick up an issue of Top Gear mag and CAR and read them back-to-back with MT and C&D) They just reviewed the '07 Sebring Convertible, which goes on sale here in a few months. Although things are looking bad for Chrysler and their products have appeared to fail terribly, perhaps we have been wrong? The ultra-touchy Brits haven't moaned too much about the new…

As you may have already have heard VW will be getting minivans from Chrysler or DCX as some may say. Well, I have heard a rumor that VW will try to increase its revenue in NA by outsourcing its platform to Chrysler Group. This is very interesting news if true. Remember that the Ford 500 is based on the Volvo S80 and the Ford Fusion is based off the Volvo S60. Also, remember that the Saab 9-3 & Opel is the basis from which the Epsilon came from. So, if the Jetta & Passat platforms are leased out to DCX for Chrysler Group. The Jetta may form the basis for the next gen Stratus/Sebring after the Galant based one is replaced. The Passat could be transformed into a Ford…

Needed: -new headlights -drivers side fender -entire front grill and bumper One day I was hit from the side and I needed: -new driver's side doors -new driver's side mirror On Christmas Eve, I was going to my Sister in-law's house...it had snowed a couple days before, but the snow had melted. I came to this lake sized puddle. Of course, I decided to go through it because I had seen a little neon go through. so right in the middle of the puddle, An SUV come …

The merger between FCA and Renault has crossed another hurdle overnight with FCA agreeing to a compromise with the French government. The issue surrounded the French government's desire for a guaranteed seat on the company's board of directors and effective veto power on CEO appointments. In a compromise, Renault would give up one of its own board seats for one occupied by a representative of the French government. The makeup of the board would then be 4 seats allocated to FCA appointees, three to Renault appointees, and one to the French government. France is Renault's largest shareholder with a 15% stake in the company. Additionally, Renault would give up one o…

Saving Chrysler. Maybe. Cerberus is not out to bail out the automaker for the good of America. What the firm—and the union—really want. (Taken from Newsweek) May 14, 2007 - Detroit was stunned Monday morning to wake up to the news that Chrysler had been sold to Cerberus Capital Management, a Wall Street private equity firm named for the three-headed dog that guards the gates of Hell. The unsettling news grew even more ominous when one of the Detroit TV stations began broadcasting the news conference live from Germany with a stern-sounding German translator drowning out the English being spoken by DaimlerChrysler Chairman Dieter Zetsche. It all reminded me of that R.E.M…

For their next generation minivan, Chrysler is going down a different route with how they will sell them. Chrysler will drop the Dodge Grand Caravan in the next generation leaving the Chrysler Town & Country to be sold in the US. In Canada, the opposite will happen. Why? It would certainly be the Dodge Grand Caravan in Canada, but the Town & Country resonates more strongly here in the U.S., so that’s going to be the van in the U.S,” said Reid Bigland, head of Dodge. Bigland says in the US, the Town & Country outsells the Grand Caravan by two to one. In Canada, it's a different story; the Grand Caravan takes up 70% of minivan sales and is the third-best-selli…

For once, I'm not going to completely bash Chrysler, just going to bitch for a minute. I want a Wrangler, have for years, I've been going through all the scenarios that will permit me to buy a new one next spring, and weighing possible other purchases, the FJ Cruiser when talking new, and a number of small, convertible SUVs when talking used. An Amigo would be my first choice, but I have a soft spot for the Tracker/Sidekick and would think hard about a RAV4 or Sportage vert. Back to the Wrangler, specifically where Jeep is going to lose my sale. Jeep offers 3 models of the Wrangler 2-door, the X, Sahara and Rubicon. MyGig is a must, and its only available on the t…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 9, 2013 Yesterday, Fiat exercised its option to purchase another 3.3 percent of Chrysler shares from the UAW's VEBA retirement fund. This brings Fiat's current share of Chrysler to 68.49 percent. This is the third time that Fiat has purchased shares from VEBA. Last July and earlier this year, the Italian automaker purchased 3.3 percent of the VEBA shares. Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne wants to buy up the remaining shares so Fiat can have full control of the company and hopefully help curb the large losses the Italian automaker is currently experiencing. That doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon. Currently, Fi…

Verdict on Challenger to be Decided by Fall The Chrysler group may decide whether to make the Challenger muscle car as early as the end of the third quarter, CEO Tom LaSorda says. LaSorda on Friday said Chrysler has been flooded with positive responses to the Challenger concept, shown at the Detroit auto show in January. If Dodge has any sense, they'll build it. Unless of course, they want the new Camaro to go unchallenged (no pun intended). Read "Chrysler to decide whether to build Challenger by fall" @ Autoweek

A Million Miles to Mid-Pack? Will the 200 and Avenger be Enough? 10th October, 2010 by "black-knight" Chrysler Corporation; out of our three major domestic automakers, it seems that the crew from Auburn Hills lead by a chain-smoking, beatnik Italian has the most to prove to the American consumer. Forget how people constantly deride GM with the "Government Motors" moniker for a moment, the simple fact is that ChryCo built some of the worst American cars of the last few years. Interiors were built from cheap dime-store Mega Blocks. Aside from the Hemi V8, most of the corporate engine line-up seemed to struggle to reach modern performance levels. Three quarters of t…

Chrysler dropping AWD on Avenger, Sebring and Caliber Posted Oct 20th 2008 9:27AM Link to AutoBlog If you didn't know all-wheel drive was an available option for the Dodge Avenger, Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Caliber, you're not alone. Only 1.5% of Avenger buyers checked the AWD option box, and the Sebring take rate was an abysmal .7%. The Caliber fared only slightly better at 4.4% for the 2008 model, but that's not nearly enough to keep Chrysler from canceling the option for the 2009 model year. AWD was fast becoming a mainstream option when those models were being developed, but the ability to move all four wheels at once drives down fuel economy. The MSRP goes up,…

A little respect, please The 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible doesn't have to be a true luxury car to hit the mark in its segment, but it sure wouldn't hurt. Up to now, you've most likely encountered the Chrysler Sebring convertible on a rental car lot. Middle-management executives across the country invariably anticipate a summertime business trip with the refrain, "We can take the Sebring!" Unfortunately it's not necessarily a gesture of respect, especially when it comes out of the mouths of people like the self-absorbed boss featured in The Office. It's no wonder the all-new 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible is clearly reaching several steps above the outgoing …

The Dodge Viper isn't for everyone. It's raw and brutal, and it takes a certain type of person to appreciate the its outlandish personality. Regardless of whether you like or dislike Dodge's flagship supercar, it's hard to argue against its capabilities. The Viper ACR is unmatched around the Nurburgring, besting the Corvette ZR1 and much more expensive supercars like the Maserati MC12, Pagani Zonda F and Ferrari Enzo. Apparently, it's quite a drag racer too, according to one owner who took out his brand new, bone stock Viper SRT10 Convertible with just 100 miles on the odometer and ripped off a 10.92-second quarter mile. Most media outlets have tested the Viper's 1/4 mi…

The company is in talks with several automakers because it cannot profitably build a subcompact, or B-segment car, without another automaker as a partner, Vines said. "We're hoping to get a B-car someday, but we will not build it on our own," Vines said. Vines confirmed a report saying Chrysler has been in talks with Hyundai and Volkswagen about a subcompact car joint development pr…

WASHINGTON -- DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler unit, the third-biggest U.S. automaker, said it will recall 283,000 Dodge Ram pickup trucks that may roll away if the gear shift isn't fully placed in the "park" position. The automaker in December will notify owners of 2003-2005 models equipped with diesel engines and automatic transmissions, and will fix the vehicles by installing an alarm. Chrysler advised owners to always remove the key and insure that the vehicle is in "park". The recall was disclosed Oct. 7 in an e-mailed statement. That same day, Auburn Hills, Michigan-based Chrysler said it would recall 300,000 other vehicles, including 20…

Chrysler can't seem to catch a break with their nine-speed automatic. Case in point is a recall for around 26,000 Chrysler 200 models equipped with 3.6L V6 and nine-speed because the transmission will not go into park. According to a statement, the problem is due to inconsistent assembly procedures at a supplier's plant. At the time of this writing, five owners have experienced this problem. Dealers will inspect the transmission and replace if necessary. In the meantime, Chrysler is asking owners to put on the parking brake to prevent their vehicle from rolling back. FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne is giving it a rest when it comes to merger talk. Speaking with Bloomberg, Marchionne says he will focus on growing FCA through 2018. After 2018, Marchionne could retire from the company. Last year, Marchionne campaigned publicly for a merger of FCA and General Motors. GM's board looked at his proposal in the summer and rejected it. After this, Marchionne backtracked somewhat, saying the merger could generate $30 billion a year in cash. But now, Marchionne says any chances of a possible GM merge are done. “I met Mary Barra less than a month ago in Washington. I don’t think I will have another coffee with her. It won’t happen again in …

There is a huge difference between hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. So it seems interesting that Chrysler will be dropping the plug-in part of the Pacifica Plug-In hybrid in their marketing for almost all of the U.S. Bloomberg reports that Chrysler will advertise the Pacifica PHEV as the Pacifica Hybrid for the majority of the country. The reason is that most Americans see 'plug-in' and think limited range. For the record, a plug-in hybrid can run on electric power alone for a time. Once the battery is depleted, the gas engine will kick on to provide propulsion and charge the battery. There is one exception to this plan, California. Tim Kuniskis, head of FCA's …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 9, 2012 The U.S. Patent and Trademark office strikes once again. Motor Authority found a filling from Chrysler for a badge that reads EcoDiesel and has "3.0L" nomenclature as part of it. The report says Chrysler filled this last month. Earlier this year, Chrysler announced they would be selling a diesel version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. We've been reporting for the past few months that the engine for the Grand Cherokee will be a 3.0L diesel V6 from VM Motori producing 241 HP and 406 lb-ft of torque. Most likely the Grand Cherokee will wear the EcoDiesel badge. As we reported back in June, Chrysler has pushed back…

Chrysler Sues Pure Detroit Over Slogan William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 16, 2011 Chrysler's "Imported from Detroit" slogan has brought them a lot good press and fanfare. Since then, Chrysler has brought out a line of clothing and trademarked the slogan. That turned out to be a wise idea since a company called Pure Detroit has used the "Imported from Detroit" on a line of clothing and claims to be the exclusive provider. Last night, Chrysler filed a lawsuit against Pure Detroit saying they used the slogan improperly. Chrysler said in their filing, they tried to work it out with Pure Detroit. "Chrysler has repeatedly attempted to …

Chrysler Group needs more production space — and it’s getting it. DaimlerChrysler AG is moving to cash in on its momentum in North America to create some space between Chrysler Group and its traditional rivals - the troubled General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. The Chrysler Group is expected to announce officially today that it plans to build the production version of the Dodge Nitro concept on the same assembly line in Toledo, Ohio, now used to build the Jeep Liberty. The announcement will underscore how deft the Chrysler Group has become during the past couple of years at spinning off new variants of its most popular vehicles. While the Nitro will us…

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has been lagging behind other automakers in terms of electrification, tending to focus more on how many more vehicles they drop the Hellcat V8 into. But that appears to be changing. The Detroit Bureau had the chance to speak with FCA's new global powertrain chief, Micky Bly. He said that within the next twelve to eighteen months, FCA would try to reposition itself as one of the industry’s leaders in electrification. “We’re not leaders now,” said Bly, “but we will be soon.” Bly wouldn't go into detail as to how FCA plans to do this. But we already know that a number of FCA brands have plans for hybrid and electric vehicles - includi…

Former Toyota USA President Jim Press Never Owned A Toyota Or Lexus The Chrysler media blog's got an interview with the new Vice-Chairman of "The New Chrysler," Jim Press. Much of it's a nice little flufferview of the guy who until being snagged by Cerberus, spent thirty years at Toyota, eventually becoming President of Toyota USA and the only non-Japanese ToMoCo board member. Still, at the end of the interview was a little blurb that stood out as shockingly note-worthy: "Press has always loved cars. He built his first go-cart at age seven, got his first car when he was 12. At age 13, he started washing cars at his family's dealership in Kansas. But he said he never …

Posted Aug 22nd 2008 9:28AM by Jeremy Korzeniewski Filed under: Minivans/MPVs, Humor What would happen if an old Plymouth Horizon mated with a Plymouth Voyager? See above. Despite the fact that Chrysler used to offer its minivans with two different wheelbases, this is a vehicle that was fortunately never released out of the factory doors. Our guess is that the owner, like us, never really cared for those old non-powered sliding doors anyway. Why not just get rid of 'em completely? Our favorite view of the bus shows that there's nearly as much front-overhang as there is metal between the axles. In all seriousness, the work that went into cutting this sucker in third…

Chrysler Confident in Minivans, Market Soccer moms and dads, take note: Rumors of the minivan's death have been greatly exaggerated. Even as Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. plan to ditch their minivans in favor of newly popular crossover vehicles, Chrysler Group, which invented the minivan in 1984, is preparing to unveil its next models, and it's counting on high-volume sales. Rethinking the Car Company Private-equity firm Cerberus is expected to transform Chrysler into an automobile manufacturer like no other. What the future may hold. May 17, 2007 - Henry Ford created the defining engine of the American auto industry with his mighty River Rogue factory in the 1920s. Huge freighters loaded with iron ore and rubber docked at one end of mile-long warren of foundries and factories, while on the other end shiny black Model A automobiles rolled off the assembly line every 49 seconds. At the dawn of the Internet age, Michael Dell created a new model for manufacturing. At his factories, the guts of his computers—circuit boards, frames, memory chips…

Well, Inside Line has gotten their hands on some spy shots of what could be the 100. Hidden underneath a mishmash of Alfa Romeo Giulietta and Chrysler parts lies the same platform that underpins the Giulietta and upcoming Dodge Dart. The mule wears a Chrysler grill, different exhaust, and different rear bumper which reveals the 100 will likely be longer than the Dart. Source: Inside Line View full article

Why is Chrysler giving overtime when overstocked? Workers expect longer-than-usual winter shutdowns at Chrysler Group plants that make such oversupplied vehicles as the Dodge Ram pickup and Jeep Commander SUV, following several weeks of overtime. By the end of this week, hourly workers who build the Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee at Jefferson North in Detroit will have worked the equivalent of an extra week and a half -- at overtime pay rates -- since their last shutdown this fall, according to company production schedules. And workers at St. Louis North, who build the Dodge Ram, will have worked almost two weeks' worth of overtime in the 10 weeks since their last…

Compass Advertising Still as Bad as Ever The gang of Hip Hop-thumping bobbleheads that cruised town in television spots for the new Jeep Compass last summer are no more. They've been replaced by City Man, a figure created from street signs and scrapped urban parts with a penchant for surfing and yoga. The new print and television ad campaign, dubbed "Urban Playground," is aimed at young, urban buyers. A television spot -- showing a Jeep Compass zipping through urban streets, creating a swirl of wind that amasses urban fixtures to create City Man, began airing nationwide on Jan. 15. The 30-second spot showed up on the Web site, YouTube.com, on Friday. "Urban Playgrou…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com May 30, 2013 According to Bloomberg, Fiat is reportedly seeking $10 Billion in financing to buy out the remaining 41.5% of Chrysler that is being held by the retiree trust of the United Auto Workers and refinance the two automakers' debt. Fiat has been in talks with a number of banks such as Bank of America Corp., Deutsche Bank AG, and Goldman Sachs Group Inc., to secure financing. Earlier reports said Fiat was seeking around $4 Billion, but that figure has risen considerably. This is most likely due to a court case in Deleware between Fiat and the UAW arguing the total price for the remaining shares. “The merger is …
