Buick
Founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, Buick is one of America’s oldest automobile brands and the oldest active division of General Motors (GM). Known for pioneering innovations like the overhead valve engine, Buick became a symbol of affordable luxury throughout the 20th century. It played a key role in GM’s growth and today positions itself between Chevrolet and Cadillac, offering premium vehicles in both the U.S. and China—its largest market.

Before the Detroit Auto Show kicks off Monday, a few automakers will have events around Detroit. Buick will be one of those as they'll be showing off the new Envision crossover. But there is something else waiting in the wings. This week, The Detroit News learned that Buick will have a big premiere at the event. Officials at Buick were keeping their lips shut as to what this may be. “We have a very special program, and we had a surprise last year, so we’ll see if we can do something this year as well,” Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president of Buick. However, Bloomberg may have learned what the surprise is. A source says the other vehicle will be a sporty coupe concep…

Rumors of Buick doing a wagon variant of the Regal have been floating around a for few years and it has either fallen into one of two categories: GM is considering it or they have passed on it. A new rumor has the Regal Wagon coming. Automotive News reports that a recent national dealer meeting, Buick revealed images of the next-generation Regal. According to people that attending the meeting, the images included the next-generation Regal GS and a wagon. Unfortunately, the people didn't give any specific details on what the wagon looked like. Buick possibly doing a wagon seems like an odd decision. Data from IHS Automotive shows wagons only make up one percent of …

General Motors CEO Mary Barra said something interesting about the Chevrolet Bolt EV earlier this year. “…the Bolt is our platform that we’re going to continue on and have a huge range of vehicles.” Now, a new report from InsideEVs has possible details on one of these new models. According to a source that attended a focus group in California, the vehicle in question is a new Buick crossover that is said to look like a next-generation Encore. The model will use the Bolt's structure and powertrain, but come with a different design and features such as a floating roof and a push-button drive selector. The Buick crossover will be about the same size as the Bo…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com October 19, 2013 A new report from Edmunds shines some light on what Buick possibly has in store powertrain-wise for some of their vehicles. A sources says that Buick is planning on offering a diesel engine in their lineup. This is due to Buick and Opel becoming more aligned. Also, diesels have gained more ground in the U.S. thanks to their ability to provide large fuel economy numbers without a massive hit on performance. The source doesn't say which vehicle will get the diesel engine, but Edmunds speculates it will be the Verano since it's closely related to the Chevrolet Cruze which offers a diesel engine. Another s…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 14, 2013 Earlier this year, General Motors CEO Dan Akerson said that if the Opel Adam and Cascada convertible were sold in the U.S., that it "would help Buick in this market and in China in terms of demographics." Since then, rumors and speculation have been flying on whether either one of these models would appear in the U.S. This week, we reported that Opel Adam is under consideration for the U.S. But it will likely not come until the next-generation model is launched if it is given the green light. Now, we have an update on the Opel Cascada. Insiders told Edmunds this week that the Opel Cascada becoming a …

A vehicle that many Buick dealers and a number of us here at Cheers & Gears have been wanting for a while could finally be arriving next year. Automotive News and the Wall Street Journal report that the Buick Envision will be coming to the U.S. Sources tell AN that General Motors is likely to green light the Envision for export to the U.S. as early as late spring. The Wall Street Journal says the company is targeting annual sales of 30 to 40,000 Envisions per year. Now the Envision would be the first vehicle sold by the Detroit 3 that is imported from China. It will not be the first Chinese-built vehicle sold in the U.S., that honor goes to Volvo with the S60 Insc…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 29, 2012 The Buick Grand National, T-Type, and GNX. Built during the mid to late eighties, these three were some of quickest vehicles on the market thanks to a 3.8L turbo V6 and didn't share the old person image that the other Buicks had. Now, the Grand National, T-Type, and GNX could be making a return to the Buick lineup. Inside Line has learned from a 'reliable source' that GM is planning to resurrect the three nameplates onto a new RWD sedan. The sedan will use the Alpha RWD platform and be around the same size as the Cadillac ATS. The sedans will also share steering, brakes and suspension from the ATS. The…

Earlier this week, we reported that General Motors faced a difficult decision with the upcoming Envision crossover: Do they import it from China or build it somewhere else just for the North American marketplace? This comes at an interesting time since Reuters is reporting that Buick's future lineup will be comprised of vehicles imported to North America. Speaking with two sources, the news service reports that only two models in Buick's future lineup, the next LaCrosse and Enclave will be built in the U.S. The rest will be imported from other countries. At the moment, the Encore subcompact crossover is the only Buick model that is imported to the U.S. This will soon …

The Buick Regal is currently the oldest passenger sedan in Buick's lineup at the moment. But we do know that a next-generation model based on the next Opel/Vaxuhall Insignia. The Truth About Cars has learned some intriguing information about the next Regal. According to a source, Buick is planning to reveal the next Regal sometime in the second quarter, possibly at the New York Auto Show. Designers at Buick have added their own touches to the Regal's exterior to have it stand apart from the Insignia. The interior is said to be more spacious, especially in the back. The source goes on to say that the Regal will gain a V6, though it is unknown what V6 it would be…

We know the latest product that Buick dealers will be getting in the near future is the Cascada convertible starting sometime early next year. But what comes after that? Automotive News has done some sleuthing and has come up with possible timeline of what to expect from 2016 to 2019. 2016 First up is a redesign of the Buick Verano that will likely appear in the second half of 2016. The model is expected to grow in length and interior size. Either a 1.4T or 1.5T will be the base engine, while a new version of the 2.0T will be available. Next is the LaCrosse which will get a full redesign that will go on sale next fall. Spy shots show the model grow in size. The new…

G. Noble Editor/Reporter CheersandGears.com March 1, 2012 Since Buick reintroduced the Regal to the North American market back in 2010, there has been some enthusiasm for the return of the big-daddy GNX, the famous performance car of the ‘80s which was based around the then-current Regal. Well, since it appears that New Jersey-based tuning firm SLP has secured the rights to the “GNX” name, some of you may just get your wish. SLP released the teaser sketch you’re viewing just recently, which reveals that the new GNX will use the current Regal GS as its starting point. From there, it appears SLP will beef up the bodywork with unique flared fender extensions and lower r…

The Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse are well past their sell-by-date. GM knows this and will be introducing new versions of both within the next year. We haven't seen any spy shots of either model, til today. Autoblog published some spy shots of the next-generation Buick Enclave undergoing some hot-weather testing in Death Valley. From the shots, it looks like Buick will be retaining the shape of the current model. Although, it looks like the roofline has changed somewhat towards the back. We can pick out the new grille that we first saw on the new LaCrosse along with a set of LED running lights. The Enclave is expected to use a stretched version of the Chi…

We have been waiting to get our first look at the next-generation Buick Regal since spy shots of Opel Insignia first surfaced back in August. Well today, Motor Authority got their hands on the first spy shots of the next Regal. Much like the Insignia spy shots, the Regal mule is heavily camouflaged. But there is on detail that we can pull from the pictures. It looks like Buick is sticking with the sedan design. The Insignia spy shots revealed a fastback roof that was similar to the Audi A7. The Regal is expected to use the E2XX platform that currently underpins the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. It is expected that Opel will reveal the Insignia at the Paris Motor Show…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com June 13, 2013 Buick has a small crossover in the form of the Encore and large crossover with the Enclave. However someone who is looking for something in the middle with a Buick badge will be sorely disappointed. That looks to be changing as new spy shots show a new midsize Buick crossover. Supposedly called the Anthem, this new Buick crossover will be the sister vehicle to the next-generation Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain. The trio will use utlize GM's Delta platform. We can't tell much from the shots aside the Buick waterfall grille and the driver giving the ole one finger salute. We'll be keeping an eye on this …

It's been about six years since GM introduced the Lambdas (Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Terrain, and Saturn Outlook) to the world and they're beginning to get long in the tooth. GM is quietly working on next generation of these models and some spy shots have come out of Buick Enclave with added camoflage. The pictures show the Enclave will be retaining it's large size as the current model. Also, the front end gets a new grill with longer, thinner grille slats spaced further out. The back end doesn't show any changes thanks to all of the camouflage. Source: Inside Line View full article

We have been wondering what the next-generation Buick Enclave would look like and now we have a general idea. Automotive News got their hands on some new spy shots showing an Enclave test mule sitting at a gas station. It appears Buick has made the Enclave less bulbous than the current model. The front end features Buick's new waterfall grille that debuted on the LaCrosse and a set of slim headlights. For the back, there's a new set of taillights and dual-exhaust system. If the Chevrolet Traverse is anything to go by, the Enclave will get the current 3.6L V6 producing 305 horsepower hooked up to a nine-speed automatic. There is the possibility of a 2.0L turbo-four wi…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 25, 2013 Remember when Buick and GMC announced they would introducing nine new models over the next twelve months. Two of those have been caught by a spy photographer. First up is the 2014 Buick LaCrosse. The mule caught in the shots has a larger front grille and a set of LED accents around the headlights. Not so obvious in the shots is the amount of camo in the interior of the mule, meaning extensive changes are coming. Then there is the 2014 Buick Regal. Much like the shots of the Opel and Vauxhall Insignia we reported on earlier this year, the Regal will get a revised front end. More extensive changes wil…

It looks a refresh is coming soon to the Buick Verano. A fresh set of spy shots were released this week showing a camoflaged mule undergoing some testing in Germany. Much like the Regal, the Verano is a Opel/Vauxhall vehicle (the Astra sedan in this case) with some Buick clothing. Judging from the photos, it looks like Verano will get some more Astra design cues, most notable in the headlights and taillights. But there will still be a number of Buick design cues like the waterfall grille. The refreshed Verano is expected to arrive next year. We know a fair amount about the upcoming Buick Regal GS such as what it might look like and a possible powertrain. Thanks a spy photographer, we have got our first look at what is in store for the U.S. The most apparent item that the photos reveal is that the U.S. version of the Regal GS will mostly mimic the one China. Both models feature the aggressive front end with narrow headlights, revised waterfall grille, and large vents in the bumper. The U.S.-spec GS differs from the Chinese one as it will only come in the sportback variant - China gets the sedan. Another key difference is the wheels. Whereas the Chinese-market looks to be sporting some five-spoke wheels wi…

December 21, 2011 black-knight CheersandGears.com It was only last week that Buick offered us the first glimpse of their upcoming small crossover, the Encore, that's set to debut at the Detroit Auto Show this January. But apparently that one image wasn't enough of the Encore for Buick to reveal to world. So how did Buick decide to follow up the Encore's first act? By taking the show over to Facebook where, section by section, a full image of the new CUV would be totally revealed by January 10th. It still doesn't show much right now, but it's barely enough to sort of see that it won't be in anyway related to the Chevrolet Equinox or the old Saturn Vue. Update: Anothe…

As we reported last month, Buick decided not to send the Avista into production. While the reason given at the time was due to not "enough enthusiasm for the concept," we had a sneaking suspicion there was more to that decision. Sure enough, Automotive News chatted with Buick global brand chief Duncan Aldred who explained the Avista wasn't "a massive opportunity in China." There is also the matter of priorities of which projects should go ahead or not. "Emotionally, you'd love to build it. I would buy one with my own money and put it in the garage," said Aldred. "The trouble is, I'm never looking at only one project. I'm always looking at several. I've got to …

We know from rumors that a GS variant of the next-generation Regal is incoming. But we have been wondering what would be powering it. Would it be a turbocharged-four like in the current GS or go with a V6? Thanks to a slip-up on Buick Canada's website, we might have an answer. The Truth About Cars reports that a couple of days ago, this line appeared on the Regal landing page of Buick Canada’s site. "Engineered to make getting there all the fun, the all-new Regal’s excellent driving performance is something to be experienced with available new powertrain and AWD system (3.6L V6 on GS and Twin Clutch AWD)." William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 30, 2012 Last year, a base Buick Regal started at $27,055. For 2013, the base Regal will now start at $29,015, a jump of almost $2,000. Why the $2,000 increase? Well, the Regal will be following in the LaCrosse's footsteps and offer the eAssist powertrain as standard equipment. eAssist was a $2,000 option on the Regal for 2012 and it has been rolled into pricetag. eAssist will improve the base Regal's fuel economy from 19 City/31 Highway to 25 City/36 Highway. A few more details have come out about Buick's LaCrosse Super, in an article by Jamie Lareau in this week's issue of Automotive News. "Buick will get a 'super' version of the LaCrosse. That's an 'up-level edition" . . . It will include new front-end treatments, such as a waterfall grille, and a V-8 engine . . . pricing has not been set." "Buick starts production on the Enclave crossover this fall and likely will start production on the super LaCrosse at that time . . . " " . . . Buick expects to sell 8,000 Lucerne sedans a month this year." Here is a link to the full story, which also includes coverage of Pontiac's entry-level G5 coupe. Click on this.

Buick Regal GS Gets Rated William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 15, 2011 The time has come; Buick has released the final numbers for the Regal GS due out later this year and they are impressive. The Regal GS is rated at 270 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque. That will propel the European-derived sedan from 0-60 in 6.7 seconds according to GM. “The Regal GS 2.0L turbo delivers the highest specific output of any production engine GM has ever offered, and at 135 hp per liter is the most power dense engine ever certified by SAE. We’ve been combining direct injection and variable valve timing with boosted engines since 2006, and there’s no questio…

Buick's large crossover will get the sleek Buick Wildcat concept styling from the show car. The Enclave will sport the same slim "eyes" and large lower grille as seen on the Buick Envista, but scaled up for the Enclave's size. We expect the Enclave to receive the same 328 horsepower / 326 lb-ft of torque 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder found in the recently refreshed Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia. While the Enclave has been fully redesigned, it will continue to use an updated version of the existing C1 platform and be roughly the same size as the outgoing model. While the teaser sketches show a more rakish rear glass, the mules that have been spotted retain th…

Buick Riviera Concept Revealed Images have leaked online of the new Buick Riviera concept, which is to be revealed at the Shanghai auto show this week. Designed at the GM Pan Asia Technical Center, the car is yet another stylish Buick designed by GM's China design team. The Riviera is supposed to showcase Buick's forthcoming global design language for Buick, and the coupe will tour the world after the Shanghai show closes. Unfortunately, there aren't any major American autoshows left, leaving GM without a place to properly showcase such a concept in the US until late this year. Another anonymous "people familiar with the plans said" story. So take it for what it is. If true, GM is pathetically uncured of its own stupidity. They've learned nothing about brand management and don't see that proliferating the same basic vehicle across more than 2 makes hurts all the brands. So now, we'll have a Chevy Equinox, Cadillac SRX, GMC Terrain and now Buick "Vue." Two of these vehicles would be sold at the same dealers! If 4 brands is so great maybe 10 would be better. What's the point? The answer can't be "extra sales" because 2-brand Toyota is kicking 8-brand GM's tail. The Toyota/Honda/Nissan 2-brand brand model has won. Why is GM so obtuse? …

The company ignored warnings 20 years ago that changes were needed. Is it too late? By John O'Dell, Times Staff Writer April 2, 2006 Buick was the seed from which General Motors Corp. sprouted. And for generations, the luxury car line was one of GM's most bountiful divisions. The Buick brand filled a crucial niche for the auto giant, attracting well-heeled consumers who wanted more than an Oldsmobile but weren't comfortable with the flash of a Cadillac. Now as GM faces the threat of bankruptcy, Buick has emerged as an emblem of the auto giant's broader woes. GM sold nearly a million Buicks in the U.S. in 1984. By last year, sales had sputtered to 282,288, a 70% dec…

I know we've covered the new move on advertising Buick has started in a couple other posts, but this article is very in depth and gives a very clear look on what Buick is planning on doing so I started another topic: Buick Shifts From 'Dream' to 'Precision' By STUART ELLIOTT Published: November 18, 2005 THE struggling Buick division of General Motors is changing campaigns for the second time in little more than a year. Advertising that since fall 2004 had carried the theme "Dream up," featuring the Aerosmith song "Dream On" - up, on, who can keep track? - is being discarded in favor of a campaign proclaiming that Buick …

Future Watch: Buick Skylark for China in 2009 Link to Original Article @ Inside Line Artist rendering by C.H.U.D. SHANGHAI, China — General Motors will launch a new Buick Skylark compact in China in 2009 that could be exported to the U.S. as a 2010 model. The Skylark will replace the Daewoo-based Excelle in China and will be assembled by the Shanghai GM joint venture, Inside Line has learned. GM also is considering whether to add another Chinese Buick, the new Australia-sourced Park Avenue sedan, to its U.S. lineup in 2009, supplier sources told IL. The new Skylark is based on GM's Delta 2 global small-car architecture. It will share its underpinnings with the next-…

[source: Left Lane News] Buick to Get Next-Gen Astra In 2011 General Motors will cut ties with its Saturn brand by the end of the year, but that won't mark the end of Opel vehicles in the United States. Saturn currently stands as GM's Opel import division, but that responsibility will soon switch over to Buick. Although rumors of an Opel-ized Buick have been swirling for some time now, GM' Product Board has officially signed off on the plan, according to GM Inside News. However, the first Opel-sourced Buick product will not be based on the Antara (Saturn Vue) or Insignia as first thought, but rather the Astra hatchback. The Saturn…

DETROIT -- Buick is creating a sub-brand called Avenir to take advantage of consumers’ growing appetite for high-end touches. Avenir will be Buick’s equivalent of Denali at the GMC brand. It will include larger wheels, a unique grille and premium trim features, among other upgrades. “Through the first half of 2016, Buick has been the industry’s fastest-growing major international brand, and Avenir is key to future growth and delivering on the high expectations of new customers coming to our showrooms,” Duncan Aldred, Buick’s vice president of global sales, service and marketing, said in a statement today. “Avenir will be Buick’s signature -- the highest exp…

GM has dusted off these concepts and is showing them right now at this year's Canadian Auto Show. What does this mean? They weren't in Detroit and Chicago. Could they be headed for production? Lutz says it's all about "product" so maybe these are part of the rear wheel drive plan. Let's hope.

So, went window shopping for new Buicks today. Wife was pretty well set on a LaCrosse but found the Verano an interesting option too (she referred to it as the 'baby LaCrosse'). She hates Sunday 'window shopping' as she wants to get behind the wheel and go for a test drive. She loved the LaCrosse courtesy car last week and is curious as to the ride of the Verano in comparison. I'm going to try to get her to the dealership early this week for a test drive. Can anyone here who has driven a Verano and a LaCrosse provide me with input on these two cars, especially any pros/cons to each one?

Buick Wants to Bring in the Black Guys If more blacks start driving Buicks it could help the brand overcome its biggest problem: the perception that it is a boring, old person's car. That's the view of Steve Shannon, Buick's general manager. He says blacks are the most loyal Buick customers and he wants more of them. Not only do blacks of all ages buy a lot of cars, he says that young blacks, particularly athletes and hip-hop artists, help define urban hipness. Autoweek

Wow is all I have to say. I know it's new, but I've noticed typos, I don't care for the layout, and there's a reduction in the number of pictures they show for each model. And only 3 of the colors available on the LaCrosse (black, light silver and brown) are the only colors you DON'T have to pay extra for. And the price of the base LaCrosse went up by over a thousand. The price of the base Lucerne went up about 2500. You now pay over $30,000 if you want a base Lucerne that still doesn't have a telescoping steering wheel and comes with a manual a/c, while the base LaCrosse has tilt/telescopic and auto a/c. One of the pictures is of the gear selector, and the capti…

Autoblog J.D. Power and Associates has just released its 2009 Vehicle Dependability Study... and it is a bombshell. For the past 14 years, including the most recent 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study, Lexus has sat at the top of the chart. In a significant upset this year, Buick and Jaguar have tied for top ranking (with just 122 problems per 100 vehicles) dropping the premium automaker Lexus (126 PP100) down to third place. The top five are rounded out by Toyota (129 PP100) and Mercury (134 PP100). The Vehicle Dependability Study is designed to accurately measure problems experienced by original owners of three-year-old (2006 model year) vehicles. J.D. Power based t…

I was curious as to when the Buick website would be updated with changes/images for 2007, so I contacted them, and they responded. I told the guy I was interested in the 2007 LaCrosse and Lucerne. He said the site was to be updated on 8/15/06, with the 2007 information/specs. He listed the changes for the 2007 LaCrosse and Lucerne--in the same format we saw here on C&G. However, there were 3 I recalled he missed on the LaCrosse. He didn't mention the new steering wheel, new woodgrain, nor new gauges... and we've seen pictures, so we know this is going to happen. All the changes on the Lucerne were the same as what we knew. I'm anxious to see the new interio…

There are many threads on C&G addressing bits and pieces of Buick's future line-up. Based on available facts plus some speculation, I believe that Buick has and will receive the bulk of the $3 billion promised for their revitalization. Due to higher priorities over the last few years, the plans and cadence of Buick's new vehicles had to be delayed or changed. Again, based on available facts plus some speculation, here is what I foresee as their present intentions, to make Buick "elegant, graceful and incredibly sophisticated": GMT*** = Lambda crossover sport-utility = 2008 Buick Enclave [ production begins late 2006 ] GMX*** = W body with upgraded powerplant / re…

It would seem that GM is hellbent on doing something with Buick in NA, so the question becomes what, exactly, should Buick be? To my mind, Buick should be elegant, high style, high comfort, high quality luxury without the burden of a performance orientation that Cadillac has to maintain. Im other words, Buick should be luxury and style without compromise. That's not to say that Buicks should not perform at a high level, just that no compromises of luxury or style be made on behalf of that performance. Cadillac has to toe that line, Buick should be free not to. Discuss.

Despite Bob Lutz touting Buick as an American Lexus. I think GM is killing the idea of Buick as a luxury brand like Lexus below Cadillac. Zeta was cancelled because, GM did not see RWD having much of a future beyond Cadillac & sports cars. When GM made the annoucement about Zeta's demise in NA, GM was falling on hard financial times again. So, GM wanted to look as if it were cutting costs. Which was true but, it also had to do with a rejection of any brand brand but, Cadillac going mainstream with RWD. This is not to say that Buick won't have RWD. It just won't be beyond halo vehicles. So, what is Buick likely to be then. Well, Buick will be the most prem…

Buick may be sold to Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC). To get the details, read the article linked below. The rapidly slimming General Motors might soon cast off another brand, according to a Chinese media report. General Motors is considering selling its Buick division to the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), according to financial newspaper the Shanghai Securities News. The deal could potentially involve a sale the Buick name only, or it could include the sale of plants, tooling, and designs to SAIC. Buick is extremely popular in China, despite its relatively limited success in America. The Obama administration has apparently asked Ge…

The picture at Buick is much brighter than the sales numbers indicate. Buick numbers did drop last year, roughly the same plunge Pontiac took, but the brand had fewer models than in 2004. It also went nearly 2 months without a full-size model offering during the LeSabre/Lucerne switchover. Optimism is high at GM for Buick for the following reasons: 1. Retail sales are up from 2004 as fleet sales are reduced. 2. Lucerne sales are off to a good start. In the month of December, the first full month of Lucerne production, more people bought Buick Lucernes than bought all 6 models from the entire Saab Division. 3. Despite nearing the end of its run, Rendezvou…

OK, Im not trying to distract from the release of the Lucerne. Still I am spured from a look at the Camaro concept and recent topics where I have questioned wheres the investment for Buick ? Remember the 3 billion ? I am really happy with the Lacrosse and the Lucerne, Lacrosse needed some time to grow on me but you know, I think excluding its few flaws that we dont need to rebash it is an excellent car for what and where it is, an improved and rebodied mid lux. The Lucerne is very striking, yet sensible and roomy but once again... improved rebody. Are we going to get one car from these new RWD platforms and suspension technology? To help GM meet new U.S. fuel-economy standards, Buick, Pontiac, and GMC may each add a new smaller vehicle. According to Jan. 15, 2008 news reports, "Potential additions include a sedan shorter than the Buick LaCrosse, a crossover sport-utility vehicle more compact than the GMC Acadia and a Pontiac small car," said Jim Bunnell, general manager for the division that includes the three brands. The U.S. regulations "have thrown everything on its head," Bunnell said. "We most likely will need smaller market entries to get in line." For Buick, could this be the NG Chinese Excelle, due later this year? Have there been rumors that it will be re-named "Skylark"?

So to read his information and see his picture, please go to burlappcars.com and look for the Wed., 6/25/08 story titled "Chinese Buick La Crosse." In mid-June, GM will change from its present TV message to promoting Buick, according to David Welch and David Kiley in Business Week. "The primary focus is on hooking younger buyers who have zero loyalty to GM vehicles. Buick, while popular in China, has come to be considered a fogy brand at home (average buyer age: 66). Americans love a makeover, so that is the theme Buick has latched on to. One ad has a plastic surgery spin with the catch line: 'Nip. Tuck. Weld.' To reel in younger buyers, ads for Buick's curvy new LaCrosse sedan will feature its array of Lexus-caliber gadgetry, including a hard drive for music, a system that alerts drivers if someone is in their bli…

I was at B and N working on a paper this AM. After some coffee, I went over to the magazine area. I saw that Car and Driver reviewed the Lucerne. Overall, the review was positive. It praised the craftsmanship and the quality of the product. It seemed a little shortchanged on the power of the V8 engine. But, overall, not bad. The first picture one encounters is indeed flattering. The one comment that bugged me is that the styling piggybacks onto that of the mid 90s Camry. How is that? I think that the Lucerne's styling is closely aligned with that of the large VW Phaeton. In fact, one day I was driving down the freeway and thought that the car 1/4 mile ahead o…
