Some of you have followed my new car trades over the past few years: 2001 Alero, 2002 Sentra SE-R, 2004 Grand Prix, 2006 Mariner Premier, 2007 Civic Si, 2008 Sierra WT, 2010 GTI.... The GTI was just too harsh for my taste, so I test drove the '11 Buick Regal, Lacrosse, Acura TSX, and TL. I researched (but did not drive) Avalon, G37, Lexus ES, Lincoln MKZ. Now there's a brand new 2010 Acura TL (Tech Pkg) in the garage. Bold, polarizing styling...yes. But overall, it's not much more dramatic than the '04 Grand Prix. One factor which attracted me to the TL: it feels like a luxurious, refined version of the GP, which was my favorite car of all time. So here we go! I …

Finally got some lowering springs installed this spring, ment to get these images up earlier but been waiting for some decent weather. The rear's not as low as I had hoped it would be but it doesn't look as 4x4 as it did before. The ride is certainly better, smoother, tighter I couldn't ask for more. And as promised here's a bonus that just happened today This happened right out in front of my house. I'm at my computer and I hear my alarm going off.. I look outside to see some guy looking at my bumper with his Dodge Ram pulled out a bit. I get outside, tell him that it's my car. He said it was his fault (no $h!), and he had "slipped" on t…

So as I posted in the "how much car can you afford?" thread, the old '95 Olds LSS hit the bucket and I had to find something. Originally I was really leaning towards the Cruze ECO. However, after driving a 2011 Camaro, I couldn't resist upgrading. It's black/black, V6/6-speed manual. Originally I thought I wanted a 1LT with a few options, but there were none within 3 hours of where I live (apparently no one wants V6/manual). So after realizing the 2LT was only about $700 more than the 1LT equipped how I would want it, I went searching for a 2LT with manual transmission. I found one about 75 miles away and contacted the local dealer about it. It was also the only 2LT/man…

Well boys (and girls) it is spring and it was time for the offical shop-vacing, wheel polishing, car washing, exhaust tip cleaning, undusting SPRING FLING. Saturday morning my Torrent went to my small town GM dealer to get a oil-change for the first time at 1400 miles and had molded-splash guards put on, GM performance parts exhaust tip in chrome (to match my wheels had to do it) and some long awaited factory floor-mats. I might tint the windows but might be leaning against it. Anyways so I cleaned her up Friday night and some more later Saturday and then did the Bonneville, Saturday. Anyone have any advice for removing oxidation (lil like rust spots) from the chrome whee…

Here is my baby. Finally semi-clean. I washed it and shampooed the engine. It cleaned it a bit but you can't clean it all. The car is running better. Everybody who sees my car love it but many think it is a Grand National. Here are the pics. I like the one pic with our Expedition. Beauty and the Beast lol.

Some of you may know (or remember) that, a couple of months ago, I had a decision to make. That decision has finally been made...for about a week or so. Story refresh: Back in 2001 (when Gram was still alive), I discovered that one of her best friends from high school, Ruby, had a '79 MC. Long story short ... Gram told me to tell Ruby about my collection and that I'd be interested in her '79 if she ever decided to sell it. I did. When the time came for her to sell it about 4 years ago, I didn't have the money ... and her grandson and great grandson "wanted" it, to keep it in the family.... Ruby didn't want her great grandson to have it; she wanted ME to have it.…

I've been dealing with hesitation and multiple misfire codes on the Intrepid. After much research and ruling out various other causes, a member of Di.net (the guy who wrote the 2.7-3.2/3.5 conversion manual) led me to Chrysler TSB 09-002-03. This sounded a heck of a lot like my problem, so I decided to take the plunge an embark the the most complex car repair I've ever done. The TSB calls for the exhaust valve springs to be replaced with an updated design, part number 04892082AA. Since I was in the area I decided to replace the valve stem seals with new Felpro units. So after I gathered all of the tools seals, and other goodies I needed I started taking things apart o…

My two year love affair with Datsun... . . . . . . . ...is very much over. I'd like to introduce to you the newest member of Tight Whip$: The "Bannana Milkshake" 1977 Cadillac Coupe deVille 425 cubic inches of raw torque, 7 miles of white leater & that special Cadillac feel. This afternoon at 3:00pm I sold my Datsun and then travelled down with Sofia in the B-59 to visit my College Friends in the south-east part of the state. Sofia had a blast with Jim's daugher Chloe & I showed off my '59 Buick to the crazy nut who got me hooked on them to begin with, first time seeing him in two years. He is visiting from Arizona. So then at 10:30pm XP dr…

So finally, my girlfriend and I had a chance to take the LeSabre out for a spin and snap some shots for Fly. I drove it there, she drove it back. Gotta say fly, it's one sweet, floaty ride. :AH-HA_wink: It takes a couple tries to first get it started from a cold start, and it did stall once, but once it warmed up it ran fine...although I think it runs a bit rich. The transmission shifts very smooth and she ride and steers well...although I only went up to about 40. We went to the baseball field parking lot, followed by the next door car wash parking lot, followed by a quick rinse (and major wash for the Intrepid, to get the 4,300 miles of dirt and splattered bugs off o…

This has been very, very strange, and somewhat hard to explain after the first exciting “new car” days the middle of last summer only to go downhill around a sharp corner bounce back and end up Down Under, but finally here they all are. My brother is a moron who can't spend money properly. So he bought a $h!ty VW Cabriolet from 1990 with busted mechanicals for a grand. He didn't even change the oil that sat in the car for nearly a decade and the water pump didn't function. So naturally, he nearly died while driving it. Because he's an idiot. I decided to find him something that would run properly, and reliable. The fringe benefit is that his pathetic sack of organs won't end up in anyone else's body. I'm doing the public a favour. So I found this: Clean, inside and out, with about 150,000kms (~95,000 miles). It's a 1993 EX-L, so it's loaded and has a sunroof. Best of all, it …

I have news.. I have a huge confession to make. As you recall, I had bought the wrong Toronado twice!! Recall I wanted the one on Ebay as it was what I always wanted and the color and interior was correct? Well... This is how it started. The very next day after I sent that weekly email a friend stepped up to the plate. I was busy in my office. He came on the messenger. He asked me had any of my friends offered to help me get that Toronado? I said no. Jo said she told me she was concerned about me. He said do you want the car? I said yes, I do but I do not have all the funds. I have some, not all. He said It is your dream. We are going to to get you that car. I said what…

I haven't posted on here in a long time, but thought I'd post a picture of our new 2011 VW GTI. My wife traded in her G35 earlier this month. She wanted something "fun and zippy" - of course the first thing out of my mouth was "GTI!". We test drove a 2011 Mazda Speed 3 but ultimately ended up with the VW. Also in the background is my 68 Impala (which I hate to say I really haven't been keeping up with) and the trusty 08 Vue.

Last time I came around here, I was driving a 2005 Grand Prix. In Oct 2011, I got a new job which forced me to relocate. I moved from Central New York to my new job site in Maryland, while -- due to an unfortunate technicality -- my wife and children stayed behind. Since I would need a car of my own to get around, my parents and sister were gracious enough to let me "borrow" her 1997 Saturn SL to get around in. I found out in Nov/Dec 2011 that we were expecting a third child. The wife and I agreed that the back seat of the GP wasn't big enough for 3 car seats, so in March 2012 we traded the car for a minivan -- a 2009 Volkswagen Routan. I still have to updat…

I'd like to take in some suggestions on how to go ELECTRIC, on a project car. Here's what I am dying to know... 1. A basic Idea of HOW. 2. What to make my Electric car out of, I have seen Saturns converted.. What would you do? So far I am thinking that I should buy a ready-made conversion kit, and build it into a 2-dr cavalier. The car can be dressed up pretty well, and if it is an EcoTec powered car, I should be able to get some of the funds to do the swap from selling the powertrain. Any ideas of sites I could go to, I need to know more about what to do and how. Thanks in advance for your tips!

Ever get one of those opportunities you never thought you would? I was given one over the weekend. I'm a manager at a local auto parts store and a guy named Cadillac Bill comes in often to buy stuff from me and we usually talk $h! and laugh and stuff for a while. He's called Cadillac Bill because he's been buying and selling Cadillacs for a living for nearly thirty years. Periodically he tells me about his finds and things he thinks I might be interested in. Remember my white 1971 Coupe DeVille I bought at the beginning of the summer? Turns out I unknowingly bought that car out from under a friend of his who was very interested in it for a good deal less …

My kid has been working on this for about a year. 1998 Chevy 1500. He worked for a few years cutting grass and doing odd jobs to get the money for a truck and all it would need. So far he has put a new engine in it all on his own (me observing and advising when needed) He is now replacing all brake lines and brakes. Once that is done itll be road ready. His plan is to then save for some body panels for new paint and some interior work As far as finance goes his mom and I could pay for it all, but he is willing to put the work in to getting his own and wants to know how to fix stuff. So it's a win win

Here's our 1973 Monte Carlo. My father inherited it from my grandfather when he passed away. It's been in the family since new. It's chocolate brown with a tan vinyl inside. And it's got a 454 with 84K original miles. The body and paint are still in great shape, but it needs a little work to be roadworthy. Most of that we did this weekend - fabricating new brake lines and changing out the carburetor. All it needs is a set of tires and valid NYS plates and she'll be on the road again. And in case you guys didn't realize that I'm an Italian from New York, check out the clear plastic seat covers:

Since it was such a beautiful day today, I made a yard run today, to browse their inventory and see what this place has to offer. Pretty decent size yard really, although I was disappointed to see they had only 3 Panthers, and all of the Prizms were pretty much gutted. Slim pickings there. On the other hand they had a pretty sweet collection of classic cars in the back corner. `Cudas, Chargers, Mustangs, Camaros, Sedan Devilles, Impalas, a Celica GT Liftback among other things. Over at the LH section they have two Steel Blue Intrepids, a 300M, an LHS a Concorde, and some other Intrepids and a few first gens. So the LHS had the Infinity Sail speaker grills, so I grabbed…

Only a few of you might remember me, but those who do are likely to remember my Regal. Last February she suffered massive electrical failure and a replacement had to be had immediately. The list of cars we were considering... Dodge Charger Chevy Malibu Nissan Altima I could fit in all three (something of a concern if you remember me...lol), though barely for the Malibu... All new, considering my vehicle history, a warranty was definitely needed. The Altima was ok, but I was not a real fan of it... The answer was coming down to economics... The Charger looked good at the time, 36 month 0% with 1.9% after that, and at the time for the V6 we were looking at …

This past Saturday I went to my trusted Buick dealer and purchased a very gently used 2019 LaCrosse with about 4,000 miles. It's an Essence AWD in Red Quartz Metallic and an Ebony interior, with the Bose Centerpoint Surround, Blind Spot Monitoring, Navigation, Lane Keep Assist, Panoramic Sunroof, etc. The dealer held firm on their internet price but the price was honestly really good for an almost-new car. The car is stunning and after driving it, I was sold. It is a damn shame this car is gone from the US. Aside from having the carpeted mats, the dealer gave me ebony Buick all-weather mats. During the test drive I happened to comment I wish it had the sun…

Not a big deal... but I still can't believe it happened already. I've worn a hole in my floor mat with my foot. Already. 25,000 km. It's about the size and shape of a small Swiss Army knife, and it's right where my right heel rests while I'm driving. About a month ago, I found an antique Chevy for sale on Craigslist, and, it was not far from my house. My wife and I went to look at it, and, ended up buying it. Its a 1948 Chevy Fleetmaster 2 door Town Sedan in really nice shape. Under its hood is the original 48 90 HP inline 216 CID 6. It's fully equipped for its time - has a radio, heater/defroster, and a clock - all original. We've had her at 5 local car shows so far, and, scored a couple of trophies. I'm enjoying wrenching on and driving a car that was built when I was 2 years old. Regards: Oldengineer

So the Grand Marquis' transmission has started being temperamental about whether or not it wants to go into 1st gear. As it so happens my neighbor has a regular customer who has several Crown Vics, including a `93 Interceptor he was planning to scrap. It sat for 10 years and the engine seized, but its only got 83k and the transmission is good. So he bought it off the guy for scrap value, took out the transmission and fuel sender, and told me to have at it and take whatever else I wanted, then it would be loaded full of scrap and sent on its way. We briefly contemplated putting the GM's engine in it, but it really isn't in any better shape, and a car sitting for 10 years…

I finally got my new truck after some time of waiting, I absolutley love this rig. I bucked the advice of many forumers and my father and bought a 6.0L. I'll have a review on it later but here are some pics for now:

Here are a few pictures I took of our Tahoe in Lake Tahoe. The truck doesn't have 4x4, but it did just fine. This one was taken in the parking lot at the beach. The weather was warm and sunny almost the entire week, so we didn't get to ski at all! Here are a couple I took outside the house, when a snow storm hit... the day we were supposed to leave! Enjoy!

Well as some of you had noticed I was absent from regular posting sometime. I promise I am making up for it with some amazing Torrent photos from my vacation. Many were taken in the Tetons, others on the Beartooth HWY, and a few in South Dakota in Custer State Park. Another few odd balls were thrown in that I liked. Enjoy them and if I do say so myself they are some of my best, car photographs ever. 56K be warned there are over 40 of them and I only picked about 1/2 of what I took. Please enjoy leave comments and tell me if they are as good as I say or otherwise. Enjoy and feel free to use as wallpapers etc.

As you guys know, I purchased my red '98 Tahoe 2-door Z71 to replace the ROPOS plow truck and my green '95 Tahoe 2-door. Green isn't on the market yet, but the ROPOS is gone so I am starting to optimize Mr. Red. Just doing damage control mostly at this point since all sorts of little problems have cropped-up since the purchase. But, there are other plans in the works. Today I replaced the auto 4WD dash switch (known for going bad) which quit on me after plowing here for the first time the other day. I also ordered a new window/door lock switch to replace the current one which fails intermittently (and locked me out of the vehicle capping a really bad day not long afte…

So my plans for today were pretty much canceled, and since it was actually pretty nice out (50 degrees) I took the opportunity to give the cars a good interior cleaning, and my car a much needed washing. Enjoy! Up first is the GM. The steering wheel and driver's door have been really dirty since the day we bought the car. Finally, I spent the time cleaning the surfaces of the interior. Makes a huge difference I think.

2008 Honda Civic LX 2 door, 5spd Well, as of lately my Alero has been having a lot of problems that have been driving me nuts.. (wheel bearing, weird electrical issues, rust developments, ect) and I just got a nice promotion in my new job so I felt it was time to go on my first NEW car purchase. I went out Thursday with a friend to a few dealerships, I had my mind set on an Astra but cheapest one there was priced at 19k and while out in the lot for like 45 min looking at cars not ONE salesman came out and asked if we needed help.. (kinda love it.. when I have the intention to buy you're left alone, but when you go there to just check cars you're swamped…

Ratillac for now, anyways, but hopefully not forever. For whatever reason my girlfriend and parents really love this car (you should have seen some of the looks most of my past beaters have gotten!) and that alone is enough for me to make it nice as time goes on. Maybe I can convince one of them can "babysit" it for me if I find myself in need of space for a new toy a few years down the road :AH-HA_wink: So as you all probably know by now, I picked up a 1970 Cadillac Sedan DeVille a few weeks ago for the princely sum of $600 off of two fruity yuppie brothers in southern New Hampshire: The dorks at the front and rear of the car are them. The dork in the middle wear…

Finally got a new set of stainless pipes and mufflers last week (along side the two old tailpipes in this pic) Test fitting: The correct chrome tips came on Monday. Replaces the "turkey-gun" ones that were on the old busted pipes. This car was hobbled together before I bought it. Four exhaust hangers three completely different styles. Of course I bought all new hangers that match. The Avanti uses the "X" frame from the Studebaker Lark convertible to give the fiberglass car more rigidity. The added bonus is the X frame in the middle that the exhaust has to slide in and out of twice on each side. It makes this exhaust a difficult one

Been a while since I've had a "toy" car. Decided to buy this 1988 Firebird Formula for my son and I to work on together. He is almost 13 and not at all mechanically inclined. Not so much because he can't be but because I am one of those picky people that would never let him help me because I wanted to make sure it was done right. It's a pretty clean and rust free all original driver but has more than enough flaws (starting with its anemic 305 V8) that I won't feel guilty doing an LS swap on it. I already sourced the engine and trans as well as a far amount of parts for the conversion but with COVID raging here in Michigan I would feel too guilty to order the rest of …

View Vehicle __ *I'll have better images when (if) I manage to crank out a review in the fall.* This bike is amazing. It's powered by a liquid-cooled V-Twin by Rotax built specifically for Buell. The 'pods' at the side serve to route air to the radiator. The powerband is smooth and controlled, unlike some inline-4 bikes that are peaky and require revving to ~11K rpm to move. Following my wife's little "off road excursion" in my 2005 Dodge Durango, I spent just over 6 months looking for a suitable replacement. I knew I wanted another Durango, but I wanted at least a 2006 model so I could get a Hemi wit the Multi Displacement System, and the replacement had to have AWD, the factory Class IV towing package, and the 3.92:1 axle ratios. I had the funds from the insurance payout, as my price limit (although in a pinch we could have found another thousand or so). I saw vehicles that were practically swiss cheese with rust that people wanted real money for, and dealers trying to convince me that a vehicle had a particular set of factory options,…

Hey all, I've been lurking around here for a year or so just reading all the good GM info and I decided to share some pics of my car. If any of you are on clubgp, you know who I am. Anyway, I picked up my 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP in July of 2003 and it was stock. I began customizing it as soon as I could. Over the last 3 years I've done a lot and learned a lot when it comes to detailing skills, knowledge of the 3800 motor, and tuning with my DHP PowerTuner. Here are the pics: I got it with 43k miles on it, it currently has just over 84k miles now and still gets close to 30mpg on the highway (still tuning for even better milage). It is…

So as you may recall, a few months ago some jackass in a stolen Integra sideswiped both the Intrepid and the Prizm. The Prizm is more scratched than dented, and plus I haven't found any matching doors for it yet, so it hasn't had any work done, we may just leave them on, since the car will be repainted eventually. The Intrepid meanwhile took a nasty hit in the rear driver's side door. It's cost prohibitive to have it the dents removed and have it repainted, but I have left it on there until i could find a matching door for it. We found one at the $50 day at Holland's Used Auto, but unfortunately it was pretty badly scraped up and dented, so I never bothered. I'm cheap,…

So after over a year of owning her I've finally done something to make her more unique. While I do like white-face gauges and the sporting image they give off, I've long wanted some sort of metallic rings to surround them. Not only does it add some modern bright work to the cabin, but it ads a touch of class. Well, I wasn't able to get rings for the gauges but I did manage to get the next best thing. On the recent $50 Day I managed to pick up a gauge cluster out of a Chrysler Concorde, and despite the rain I managed to keep it safe and dry. Yesterday, with some modifications, I was able to swap them out. Although these gauges are black, I do like the how they look, and…

Dropped the transmission oil pan and filter this morning: After that I was too damn oily to use the camera any more After I cleaned up I took a picture of the mess I made from changing the transmission fluid. What started out as a simple "replace the oil pan gasket" became a two year project. Not that we worked on the car for two years, just that it took that long. See, to drop the oil pan on this Stude, you really need to either pull the engine or take the whole damn undercarriage apart. Guess which one we did? Since the starter was in the way, I went to remove the starter. But the exhaust is in the way. Since the exhaust was in really bad shape and there was no way to get it apart normally, I used a sawsall. Exhaust out of the way. Back to the starter. The grommet on the starter wire broke apart when removing, causing the need to have someone take apart the star…

Well, due to trying to free up more income to look for a nice house I traded my 2011 Silverado 6.2L on Saturday for this 2014 Cruze: Only picture I have right now. My Wife has a 2012 RS just like this only in white with a sunroof. I opted for the technology package with the Chevy Mylink & back up camera instead of the All Star Package. It was $19,835 with the 2K rebate. My Wife's has a little over 50,000 miles on it, and it is a great car! This is the third brand new GM I have owned, and the 7th GM vehicle I've owned since I was 17.

First of all----glad to see Cheers and Gears back! Best car forum! Heres my 06 2.4L SS coupe. The colour is granite blue and you can't get that on US SS Cobalts. My first new car too! No pricey options---just the way I would have ordered it. Keeps the payments lower! Used 1500 GM pionts and $1000 from Car Heaven (GM sponsored program to get old cars off the road) And of course the 5 speed. The 2.4L is a very impressive engine. Smooth with all right right sounds. Makes very good low end torque. Just got over 800kms on it and have been babying it. Just starting to open her up a bit now. The build qaulity and interior are great. And the the 5 speed is the BEST…
