It's true, I haven't been around lately. There's been a lot of activity on the topic of motorized vehicles in my household. The one I deal with the most has already been revealed, though without a lot of detail. So here, I will add a few more pictures, as well as write on the additional changes that have occured lately. First, as was explained in my re-indroduction page, I parted ways with my Subaru. I loved that car more than anything, but it wasn't logical for me in my current situation. It was thirsty, stiffly sprung, wasn't as reliable as I had hoped. Great driver's car, it was, with a superb engine and drivetrain that I was miss. Some day, when I'm more financially …

*sigh* For all the headaches this car has caused me over the past year, I've got to acknowledge that other than routine maintenance, it didn't yield extra repair costs for ten years. It was also my first car. I'm gonna miss the little guy, no matter how much better it's replacement is.

Hello all, Long time no post. I still stalk but don't engage much. There's not much in the automotive world that I am much passionate about anymore - so I'm still paying attention, but not too engaged. Love to see Toyota implode but hate to see belief that Hyundai is the second coming. I've buried myself in history and politics (ugh!)... but enough about me. I just wanted to throw out a pic of my new ride - a 2011 GMC Terrain SLT2 3.0 FWD in Steel Blue Metallic. It has basically every option but AWD and Nav/monitors. I traded in my 2006 Malibu MAXX SS - which served me well and I got good $ on a trade because it only has 32,000 miles on it. Plus the GM card bump a…

Well after seven winters in New England, the salt has taken its toll on the Prizm. Like nearly every other Prizm/Corolla up here the rear rocker panels and wheel wells have begun to rot out. Driver's side wheel well had developed a hole, passenger was bubbling, and the doglegs were both rotted . I've been putting off for a year or so, but it finally got to the point where it needed to be done before it got worse. Fortunately the rot is pretty superficial and the inner parts weren't rotted. I see a lot of people patching holes with everything from expanding foam and bondo to duct tape, but screw that noise. I brought it done to a good shop I know and had it fixed the ri…

Click Here For The Full Gallery I finally uploaded a gallery of my work on the Golf. All photos are in mostly sequential order with captions to note the progress. It took me 10 months from when I bought it at the end of November to when I got it inspected at the start of this month. There was alot of down time in between the work I did. Total working time was about a month. Started out as a $500 purchase... I've spent of total of roughly $2,000. To be honest, $400 of that was lost to a scam unfortunately, and then another $400 can be accounted for with parts I bought and decided not to use. Overall, there's about $1,000- $1300 in the car itself. I haven't quite worked ou…

So I took a ride up to New Hampshire on Friday morning and this little guy followed me home: About three weeks ago or so now, on the way back from a junkyard with SpeedingPenguin, I spotted this thing sitting up at the road in front of a local garage. Being a fan of big tanks in general, and the Cadillacs of 1971 in particular (I love those separated quads; they make the car look ten feet wide!), I of course made it a point to stop and look at it, and I'm glad I did. The car has just about 103K on it, but was taken care of very well; the body has no rot really anywhere save for a tiny amount on the bottom of the rear quarters, and the black interior is perfect, save fo…

As most of you know my wife bought a Camaro, sight unseen on Ebay. This might be most guys dream, but my wife didn't see if it could seat 4. See, this Camaro has a 4-point roll cage bar, instead of 4 seats. To make a long story short, it's now up for sale. I got some decent pictures of it after having it detailed and some minor issues taken care of (center console replaced). You can check out the pictures at Camaro ad. The other cars are also for sale because she doesn't need 3 cars, and I want a new one. HHR in Craigslist / HHR in Autotrader Park Avenue in Craigslist / Park Avenue in Autotrader

  14. So I get a call from my wife yesterday. She says, "You shouldn't leave me home alone unsupervised". With that my mind wonders thinking maybe she caught the house on fire, broke something, etc. I then ask her why, She says that while looking at the vehicles for sale from the State of Oregon she saw a 2000 Camaro Z28 with an LS1 for sale that used to be a police vehicle. It only had 15 minutes left until the end of the auction and she couldn't get ahold of me so . . . as you could have guessed she bought it. At $3750, it was a steal. It didn't make me mad, it made me want her to full fill her duties as a wife. :AH-HA_wink: You can check it out the car at; 2000 C…

I picked up some stock brushed aluminum Pontiac wheels this summer with the intentions of putting some winter tires on them. I put it off all summer, but when we saw some snow last week I decided it was time to go home from school for the weekend and get this done. The wheels were really dirty and had a lot of the clear coat peeling off. First I cleaned them all with some water and steal wool. Then I sanded off the rest of the clear coat and put tape around the tires. The paint that I chose is called gunmetal, and is a silver/black with a little bit of sparkle to it. So after some primer and a few layers of the paint, thats where I am right now. I am going to wai…

NJ law doesn't allow front window tinting of any percentage, so just the rear doors and rear window received a 15% tint (I considered the 35% limo tint, but was told you can't see out of the windows at night and figured it wouldn't be safe for the wife to operate). Also in the background is my 68 Impala (which I hate to say I really haven't been keeping up with) and the trusty 08 Vue.

So as you may recall, a few months ago some jackass in a stolen Integra sideswiped both the Intrepid and the Prizm. The Prizm is more scratched than dented, and plus I haven't found any matching doors for it yet, so it hasn't had any work done, we may just leave them on, since the car will be repainted eventually. The Intrepid meanwhile took a nasty hit in the rear driver's side door. It's cost prohibitive to have it the dents removed and have it repainted, but I have left it on there until i could find a matching door for it. We found one at the $50 day at Holland's Used Auto, but unfortunately it was pretty badly scraped up and dented, so I never bothered. I'm cheap,…

About a month ago, I found an antique Chevy for sale on Craigslist, and, it was not far from my house. My wife and I went to look at it, and, ended up buying it. Its a 1948 Chevy Fleetmaster 2 door Town Sedan in really nice shape. Under its hood is the original 48 90 HP inline 216 CID 6. It's fully equipped for its time - has a radio, heater/defroster, and a clock - all original. We've had her at 5 local car shows so far, and, scored a couple of trophies. I'm enjoying wrenching on and driving a car that was built when I was 2 years old. Regards: Oldengineer

I cannot imagine what cars will be like in another 50 years! What further amazed me is the length of the two cars - it is almost a dead heat between the two of them!

It's a project nonetheless. It's a late 70s/early 80s Schwinn Traveler that I saved from being trashed as a single speed/fixed gear bike. At the time, the Traveler was Schwinn's middle-of-the-road bike. I'll try as best I can to bring it back to what it looked like when it was first built. The frame and the finish looks to be in great shape - worth the $30 in my opinion since older Schwinns in any condition are increasing in value. I have an old Royce Union road bike that's got a bent rear frame that I can't straighten for the life of me (even though I was the one who bent it, somewhat intentionally). Ignore the date on the photos, my camera is really a piece of garbage. Second major car purchase of mine, first one that I did on my own. Very proud of this baby.

  60. Guess what 2006 GM vehicle this is off of: [attachment=95:attachment] [attachment=96:attachment] It's my new 2006 G6 GT with all the trimmings. Yes the 2003 Grand Am GT went bye-bye for the G6 and the the G6 is sooooooo much nicer to drive than the GA. I'll take better shots tomorrow in the light. It's a Crimson Red GT with the Leather package (taupe), Panoramic sunroof, remoter start, power pedals, wing, chrometech wheels... Good deal when the GM Card double the rebate from $1000 to $2000. I leased it for three years like the 2003 GA. I'll let you know how it goes, but it is definetely geared better than the GA and feels …

She is fun to play around with. Completely stock. Officially, my record is 1-2. :( I raced a camaro and beat him once, then he beat me. It was a modified 96 with exhaust and some other goodies. I think he let me win though the first time. Then i raced an 05 mustang GT and got basically whooped on. At any rate, I beat a lot of rice cars, but I dont count that in my official record!

Yesterday afternoon I placed a deposit on this fine piece of "British craftsmanship". It's an auto, but as it was only CAD$5200, and has only got 115,000 km on it, I wasn't going to pass it up just because it had a slushy transmission. For a 20 year old it's in damn fine condition (a plate on the console says it was a concours event entrant in 2002), but it currently needs a bit of a tidy up and a good polish. It's hard to tell under the road grime, but it appears to be a charcoal gray metallic, and the interior is gray leather. It's got a few minor problems ... the glass in the passenger rear view mirror is loose and needs to be re-glued, the handbrake light…

Hey guys, I figured you might like to see this. Two weekends ago, my girlfriend convinced me to start looking for a new car. I was driving a 2004 Focus that had cost me $3600 in fixes last year, and I was being too stubborn to look for a new car since I'm very dedicated on knocking down my student loans. Eventually I realized she was right and that I should get something relatively new so I don't have to be friends with the mechanics shop anymore. My main requirements were: manual transmission, 2008+ MY, <40,000 miles, relatively good fuel economy, and relatively good acceleration. So my initial list was: Sonic LTZ or RS MazdaSpeed 3 Fiesta ST Cooper S VW GTI A3 / A…

Since it was such a beautiful day today, I made a yard run today, to browse their inventory and see what this place has to offer. Pretty decent size yard really, although I was disappointed to see they had only 3 Panthers, and all of the Prizms were pretty much gutted. Slim pickings there. On the other hand they had a pretty sweet collection of classic cars in the back corner. `Cudas, Chargers, Mustangs, Camaros, Sedan Devilles, Impalas, a Celica GT Liftback among other things. Over at the LH section they have two Steel Blue Intrepids, a 300M, an LHS a Concorde, and some other Intrepids and a few first gens. So the LHS had the Infinity Sail speaker grills, so I grabbed…

So, a couple weeks ago I was driving my Regal when the unexpected happened. Since it was a 99 with 205,000km, it didn't take too much damage to write it off. Not the end of the world since everyone was ok and I wanted to replace the car anyway. So, the new car search started. Originally I planned to go brand new... A Fusion or Malibu... but the more I thought about it, the more I figured it wouldn't be a good idea to have a decent sized car payment weighing me down. Even a Focus or Elantra would cost me over $300 a month with what I had to put down, and that is a lot of money for a car I probably wouldn't even like. So, on to the used car search. I decided I want…

My kid has been working on this for about a year. 1998 Chevy 1500. He worked for a few years cutting grass and doing odd jobs to get the money for a truck and all it would need. So far he has put a new engine in it all on his own (me observing and advising when needed) He is now replacing all brake lines and brakes. Once that is done itll be road ready. His plan is to then save for some body panels for new paint and some interior work As far as finance goes his mom and I could pay for it all, but he is willing to put the work in to getting his own and wants to know how to fix stuff. So it's a win win

So the Grand Marquis' transmission has started being temperamental about whether or not it wants to go into 1st gear. As it so happens my neighbor has a regular customer who has several Crown Vics, including a `93 Interceptor he was planning to scrap. It sat for 10 years and the engine seized, but its only got 83k and the transmission is good. So he bought it off the guy for scrap value, took out the transmission and fuel sender, and told me to have at it and take whatever else I wanted, then it would be loaded full of scrap and sent on its way. We briefly contemplated putting the GM's engine in it, but it really isn't in any better shape, and a car sitting for 10 years…

The photography isn't the best. I meant to take these in more daylight but washing it turned out to be an all day job. It was a dirty little Beast. Also, I really need to upgrade to a better camera. The annoying auto-focus and inability to take a non-blurry picture in low light is beginning to get on my nerves. Also, yes, next time I take pictures of the Cutlass with the lights on, I should probably make sure they all light up first.

It will gradually replace the Avalon as I look to sell that car. But you're probably not interested in that. The details: 1998, 3800 V6, 5-speed, T-Tops, and just under 124k. No rust, a few scratches here and there, a small dent from the previous owner's kid, and originally a whole lot of muck. After a full detail, it shines up fairly well and looks fairly good for its age.
