I have seen two Volts this week. Chevy has just finally gotten a limited number to dealers here. These are the first production ones I have seen here. Sad it took till Oct 17th to get them here in time for winter. GM really needed to get them here last July to really make a good impression. The cold will hurt the electric range for them right out of the box.

Settle down: Volt batteries can recharge while driving What the Volt's gas engine can't do is completely recharge the battery pack to its full capacity. Rather, when load conditions are light the gas engine will send surplus electrons to the battery pack, which will also be receiving extra charge from regenerative braking, as well. That sounds about right to us, as we've always been told that constantly charging a battery to its maximum will shorten its life, as the optimum charge range is usually between 20 and 80 percent, not completely drained and not completely charged. GM is determining right now just how much it wants to let the gas engine charge the Volt's batter…

The 2013 Sonic RS will make it's official debut at next month's Detroit Auto Show. The Sonic RS differs from the regular Sonic with a new front and rear fascia, rear spoiler, side sills, five-spoke alloy wheels, and a lower, stiffer suspension. Power comes from the Sonic's 1.4L turbo four producing 138 HP and 148 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual is standard with a six-speed automatic optional. We have a tight-ish 90-degree turn into the 1-car-wide garage door opening, and with the GP at least- it is on the tight side. GP width is 72" and the mirrors do not fold. We would consider either another mid-size sedan or a crossover/small SUV. Space, economy & reliability are primary concerns. I don't pay enormous attention to modern vehicle specs- I had thought the Vue & Equinox were on the same platform- I see now that they're not. A topic that hasn't been touched on a lot is the interior of the Camaro, and something that has sort of worried me since I first saw it. The interior is of course, unorthodox, and its a love it or hate it design. Plenty of people were turned off by it, saying it was too radical for a car of this caliber. Some loved it for its retro cues. So I wanted to ask what everyone here actually thought of the interior, how much will be changed? Should a lot be changed? I myself like it with the exception of the long orange trim around the inside dash and doors. Will it be toned down and tame like the Challengers?

The exterior was my least favourite configuration with its short short bed, smaller wheels, and full chrome front end. It's the interior that tells the story. Believe it or not, while the plastics in the Tahoe's interior are acceptable, the LT actually had more soft touch. It's a very classy evolution of GM's past themes in their fullsizers. 60. Chevrolet has updated the Camaro for 2020 with some new styling updates and packaging changes. Most notable is the updated front fascia which received much criticism. The new front end appearance comes for the SS model based on the Camaro Shock show vehicle that debuted at the SEMA show last fall. The Bowtie emblem is now higher on the grille, and the bar between the upper and lower grilles is now body color. Also new is a new LT1 model that takes the Camaro LT trim and adds the 455 horsepower LT1 engine. This makes the LT1 trim the most affordable V8 Camaro with a starting price of $34,995 including destination charges. The LT1 will be offered in both hardto…

Perhaps since Ford said this and not Toyota we can deal with the content rather than the messenger: http://gm-volt.com/2009/02/06/exclusive-fo...d-explains-why/ Combine this with Ford's earlier statement that a battery about the size of the Volt's would cost ~$20K and you can see why the Volt was less "technological leap" and more baby step off the side of a bridge. That's why no one was seriously following. But it is unfortunate that so many were compelled by the PR to "make pretend". I've posted elsewhere how this distraction could has cost the US many billions of gallons of fuel by 2015... and that is if the Volt actually even delivers what has been claimed! G…

What We Know: Major changes will be necessary on this stalwart design in order to keep it competitive against its longtime rival, the F-150, in addition to relative newcomers such as the Nissan Titan and next-generation Toyota Tundra. When the new Silverado appears, probably in 2007, it will feature a far more elegant cabin than the current model along with a new GMT-900 platform. A more powerful …

  64. Interesting Fact: With a 101 mm Stroke and a 7000 rpm rev limit, the new 2.5 liter Ecotec will have a maximum Piston Speed of 4639 ft/min. That is a little lower than the original (2.0 liter; pre-2004) Honda S2000, but right about where a 2009 Formula 1 race car (4689 ft/min) is at and higher than a Ferrari F360 Modena (4406 ft/min). Piston Speeds Honda S2000 (pre-2004) -- 84mm Stroke x 9000 rpm = 4965 ft/min 2009 Formula 1 engine -- 39.7mm Stroke x 18000 rpm = 4689 ft/min Ecotec 2.5 DI-VVT -- 101mm Stroke x 7000 rpm = 4639 ft/min Ferrari F360 Modena -- 79mm Stroke x 8500 rpm = 4406 ft/min

  67. Five months after Chevrolet revealed to the world the 2015 Corvette Z06, the brand has announced the final performance numbers and they are impressive to say in the least. When the model was revealed at the Detroit Auto Show, Chevrolet said the Z06 was producing 'at least 625 horsepower', but they needed to do final testing to get the ratings. Well, the Z06's supercharged 6.2L V8 has been SAE-certified and is rated at 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. Not only is this the most powerful production Corvette, it also happens to be the most powerful production model ever built by GM. To put those numbers in perspective, the Z06 is bested by models such as, Ferra…

That happened with a driver on his way to a photoshoot in Berlin, not a photoshoot of himself but of the Corvette . Its a Corvette Z06 with a 7-liter engine that goes from 0 to 100 kilometers an hour (60 mph) in 3.9 seconds. The car costs about 120,000 Euro. It's a miracle nobody has been hurt. Okay, so here's what I'm saying... For the base model V6: 3.6L DOHC with VVT & DI Why? It's perfect. It'll be production-ready by 2008, it'll make enough power to annihilate Ford's most potent V6 up to date (3.6L @ 265 HP/250 TQ), and will offer good enough MPG/emissions to make even Honda buyers go American. For the smaller V8: I don't really know. I'd like to think a more up-to-date 5.3L than the current one with a bit more power, but I really have no idea. Ideas from you guys? For the larger V8: 6.2L LS3 with VVT/AFM I'd definitely say a 6.2-6.3L LS3 (whatever amount of liters it will be) making around 425-450 HP is very possible. Especially with how great…

Available in Victory Red, Summit White, Cyber Gray or Black Granite, with a lowered suspension and lower gearing with the 1.4t engine, plus some sporty trim in addition to the Flowmaster setup, this thing should be a HOOT. Wish it came in Blue Topaz.

The package would include a retuned suspension setup, new dampers, and tires. The report says work on this package would take around three to six months to complete. However, trying to convince the higher-ups to go forward on this project - though no reason as to why they might not approve it wasn't given. Source: Motor Trend View full article

I was in a Ford dealer this weekend. The salesman was talking up their new engines for 2011, saying he got to test drive a ecoboost V6 and of course it was the best thing ever! Any news on GM's Gen V V8's? Are they going to be introduced prior to the 2013 redesign or will GM have upgraded engines out sooner to compete with Ford's new offerings? I'm planning on upgrading my Sierra sometime but haven't been impressed enough with anything to warrant the cost.

Compare it to the production Volt and the two almost have nothing to share, aside from name, powertrain, and some design ideas. Recently at a event in San Francisco. Cafaro mentioned how the guys at Chevrolet were impressed with what Opel did to the Ampera to make more aggressive. The challenges that I reported as being "solved" last August on Autoextremist.com apparently grew more complex, and because of that the volume proposition for the mid-engine Corvette came apart. To…
