I find most forum Topic Titles are so long. It's like the whole story is in the title. Hard to read at a glance. Could we go with an unwritten rule keeping it to 5 words or less in the main title and subtitle? Think of what newspapers and magazines do with their titles. Just an idea. What do you think?

I've always liked listening to ghost stories ever since I was a little kid. I've never actually seen a ghost before or had any ghostly encounters, but they still intrigue me. It's said that late at night here at ISU in the Memorial Union, you can hear low moans in the Great Hall, which has names inscribed upon its marble walls of Iowans who died in WWI and WWII. I haven't actually noticed any noises, but sometimes when passing through there late at night you can feel a slight breeze even though the doors are closed. -------- Also, near the town of Mount Ayr in southern Iowa, there is a small cemetery in the middle of a grove of trees called Tedrow Cemetery. Most of …

About 8 years ago, I had the distinct pleasure of watching someone sit on the fender of my '81 MC SC ... uninvited ... at a local S Elgin cruise night. I slowly made my way back to my car ... and just stood there ... watching him ... wondering how long he was planning to plant his rear end on my car's fender. I didn't wait too long; his buddy suddenly noticed that I was staring at them ... and motioned for him to move. He looked back at me, shrugged and walked away. I didn't say a word, though when I saw him leave in a spotless older (late 1960s early 1970s as I recall) Dodge, I wish I had. You really think I'd have survived unscathed had I sat on HIS car? Now, sur…

Congress forces draconic new fuel economy standards on the OEMS and all v8 and v6 powered performance cars are forced from the market. A special permit is required to buy a v8 in a truck and all cars and trucks are forced to become hybrids. Now what do you do? Myself, I'll be buying all the old v8s I can get my hands on. I will never buy a new car again. And I'll buy a gun. Not joking. at all.

I went grocery shopping a little while ago, and I got a pretty good spot, right up in front. It just happened to be open, if it hadn't been, I would have parked further away, no biggie. Even with Alex with me, its not really that hard to walk a few yards to the door. So as I'm leaving, a car pulls into the aisle I was parked in and sees me unlock the car. So the woman (appeared to be mid-30's, by herself in the car, stops, puts on her turn signal and waits as I put my groceries in the trunk. And waits as I take the cart over to the cart return. And waits as I put my son in his car seat. All told, she probably waited 4-5 minutes for a good spot when there were sever…

My father's Bonneville is getting up in miles (98k and change) and my car is as well, but mine is almost a decade old while his is a little over five. The reason for the near 20,000mi/yr average for his car is that his job requires that he drive anywhere between 40 and 100 miles a day five days a week, sometimes even a bit more. So far, the Bonneville has proved itself an exemplary car with only a broken oil pressure sensor as the only non-accident related problem since the factory warranty expired. We have a 100,000-miles extended warranty through Geico with a rather high deductable to cover most major issues, but obviously that's coming close to the end. So, …

Price was right, pulled the Solstice wheels and added a set of dipped SKY wheels. Not a Turbo I got this thing for under $10K before tax so I took it, wife loves it. Always liked the Solstice alot, it's just the SKY looks so much better. I kinda like owning two orphan brands, maybe I'll look for a clean Oldsmobile next.

(This is a pretty large file so make sure you scroll around to see all of it. Ah yes, once again it is time for everyone's favorite map guide to the NAIAS. Guiding us again this year is none other than NOS. As you can see, he's very excited, so lets not waste any time. Off we go. NOS enters through the Macomb hall doors and is overcome with a massive cloud of new car smell. He immediately passes out. Five minutes later, he wakes up to the bomb sniffing dog licking his face. To his left he sees the Accord Coupe Concept. Skeptical, he walks over. "Hm...it doesn't actually look like a bland turd" he exclaims. It confuses him as he actually finds it somewhat attractiv…

I'm going to have to make the buy of a lifetime. I have to find the best possible deal on a plow truck, and the budget will be tight. I don't know exactly what I'm going to have to work with yet, but regardless of cost I need to "buy well". So, if something crosses your path, please let me know. And wish me luck. Here are two examples of what I'll be looking for generally. Unfortunately both will be gone by the time I'm ready, and are likely budget busters. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-Chevy-3500-Pickup-7-4-liter-Boss-Snow-Plow-2500_W0QQitemZ320452465087QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item4a9c7491bf http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy-2003-2500HD-4x4-…

Just wanted to stop in and say hello to fellow C&G'ers. I'll get right to the point and say that it's Josh and I'm obviously under my username that I use on Solstice Forums. I've pretty much given up Internet blogging and GM sites as some readers of my site here may know. I'm just too busy. I recently went to work for GM at the Livonia Powertrain plant and it's been quite the experience. They hired me on July 14th after their 2 week shutdown ended. As most of you here know the Livonia Powertrain plant produces the Northstar V8. My first week saw a lot of orientation and plant tours then we got to work the second week. I learned 4 jobs in 2 days on "the line" and …

GOD THERE IS SO MUCH USELESS CRAP IN MY KITCHEN!!!! Ok, I'm better now, but this is pretty bad. My fiancee finally got the last of her crap out of her apartment (lease is up the 30th) and brought it over and there is no freaking room for it. I'd be more than happy to make room, but its stupid, useless $h!. Who the hell buys a "Margaritaville Frozen Concotion Maker" (aka a less useful blender) or a Smoothie maker (aka a really useless blender) or a Quesadilla maker? Ok, so I also have a quesadilla maker, but now we've got two. And why does she have two melon ballers? I only have one and it has never been used. I have no idea what we're going to do…

I dunno if this is bad karma from the rain or if it's just hit that point in its life where everything just wants to go wrong. As many of you know, there was a huge rainstorm last weekend in the New England area. We had driven around in my car to take pics of the river and stuff, and later my friend came over. That night when I was taking him home...(I think this was Sunday)...I noticed my blinkers weren't working at all...not even the inside flasher arrows. Of course, when I put the hazard lights on...everything works fine. I have tried replacing the flasher relay with no luck. Now, if there is one thing that this car has had major problems with...it's electrical. Unt…

http://www.tomdispatch.com/post/174904/mic...risis_hits_home The Bad News at the Pump The $100-plus Barrel of Oil and What It Means By Michael T. Klare On Monday March 3, the price of crude oil reached $103.95 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, surpassing the record set nearly 30 years ago during another moment of chaos in the Middle East. Will that new mark prove distinctive in the annals of world history or will it be forgotten as energy prices drop, just as they did following their April 1980 peak? When oil costs are plotted over time, the 1980 oil crisis -- prompted by Ayatollah Khomeini's Iranian revolution -- stands out as a sharp spike on t…

Okay... So, over the years, I've been learning more and more about cars. I know VERY LITTLE compared to many of the people on this site. I know tons of "specs" of cars, could tell you what features each car offers, can recognize a car and a year by it's taillights or headlamps shining in my rear-view mirror, but know almost nothing under the hood. No one listens to me when I say "Something doesn't feel right" regarding my car. This has been going on for YEARS. Turn back to April 2002, I said to my friends and family, "You know, I was driving today and I heard a slightly different sound when accellerating--a tinny sound. Very faint." People sat in the car, dism…

I think this might be my first "yes/no" poll. I like to put the window down, when going over a narrow bridge or driving in a narrow drive between 2 buildings, so I can hear the echo of my engine's sound. I got into this by listening to the awesome sound of a small-block Olds Rocket V8. As for my current car(s), I have to admit that the Regal sounds really hushed for its high mileage. Do you make it a point to listen to your engine's sounds echoing back at you?

I caught myself doing this more and more lately, actually being somewhat aggressive in my attempts to keep the foreign car drivers at the curb as I go past. I have even slowed down when there would have been plenty of room behind me for the guy waiting on the side to merge into traffic, but decided his Prius or Tundra could wait for the next guy to go by. Yeah, I am a child, I know. (by the way, if it is a matter of safety for the person on the side of the road, I always let them in, even I am not that uncool - even if the car they are driving is!) On the contrary, if there is a hot Domestic that might have the room to get in if I speed up, I do to allow them in. Ju…

Yeah, super exciting topic, right? We all went out to brunch last Sunday and she wanted me to drive so I didn't want to pass up the chance (I had not driven it yet). It's an 04 Vue, with about 20k miles on it, that she purchased back in 06 upon our suggestion (yes, she only drives about 2 miles to work each day). I have to say I didn't think it drove that well. It felt slow, the CVT tranny was slightly annoying and anemic and the brakes felt really bad. I actually liked my 98 Jimmy better - which I wasn't expecting at all. I haven't driven a new 2008 or 09 Vue yet, but I hope for GM's sake that it drives better than her 2004. It's interesting, because the old …

Let's take a look at the now-classic GT Hawk, Studebaker's 'personal luxury' coupe : Naturally, we have to backtrack before we can backtrack. While spring is right around the corner, it is still winter...and some of us don't have our older cars out to play yet. That in mind, what is your favorite non-car-related event during the year? Mine is coming up next Saturday, February 25. The church I attend in Batavia IL is hosting its Annual Spaghetti Dinner. As many of you may know, I've been on antidepressants since March, Lexapro to be exact. They did their job, getting my out of my depression, for good news. Otherwise, the side effects were unbelievable. Weight gain from appetite increase... Problems with excessive yawning... Inability to orgasm during any form of sex... and Sleepiness and Insomnia both. Because of these, I've had a desire to stop taking them. Considering that I was in a "rut of life sucking" when I was depressed and was put on these, I figured it's about time to get off them. I'm trying to get the layout right so that I can build a "retractable" paint booth, make room for a lift, install better lighting and outlets, build an enclosure for the compressor, and have my heater…

Driver goes 3 miles with lodged body A motorist hits a pedestrian on 34th Street, then drives to the Sunshine Skyway with the victim stuck in the windshield. The St Petersburg Times By CRAIG PITTMAN, Staff Writer Published October 20, 2005 St. Petersburg Times ST. PETERSBURG - A 93-year-old motorist struck and killed a pedestrian Wednesday evening, then drove about 3 miles with the body lodged in the windshield until he was stopped at a Sunshine Skyway tollbooth. The driver told officers he thought the body had fallen from the sky, said St. Petersburg police Officer Mike Jockers. "He had no idea he had been involved in an accident," Jockers said. "He d…

So in an attempt to spice things up a bit, I had an idea for a new 'Dream Garage'. It's somewhat similar to one I've done before in that there will be criteria to follow, but with freedom within those criteria. I will give you a segment of vehicle that you can choose from; and there will be price brackets that you assign to those segments as you prefer. Rules- 1- You must have ONE off-road vehicle. Truck or SUV. 2- You must have ONE daily driver. This is open. 3- You must have ONE long-distance cruiser/GT vehicle. It must be a 2+2 or 4 door. 4- You must have ONE weekend back road burner/track car. It has to be a 2 door. 5-…

Was in Autozone the other day (>"You want it, you need it, we can't find it, we don't have it"<) and their magazine rack (!) had a rag with cars on 30" rims. There was a gold late '70s Impala on the cover with these... wagon wheels and 6 big chromed trumpet horns under the front bumper in a cluster, probably providing a 'cow catcher' function to nudge pedestrians and..... cows out of the way. I actually had to pick up the rag to see if it was pics of real cars or well-detailed scale models. They were real alright. Couldn't find anything better than this on the net, but just so you all are on top of things: 20"s (and 22"s and 24"s) are so 3 seconds ago.

Well as most of you know, I live in Delaware, but I don't buy my new cars here, I go to Elkton, Maryland and buy my cars from Anchor Pontiac. They are a great dealership that treats you like family and they go the extra mile. Oh from where I live I can be in 3 different states in about 15 minutes, so going to Maryland is no big deal. Maybe we could use this list if our C&G members find themselves out of state and in need of a reliable dealership to go to. Cheers! My dealer's website: http://www.anchorpontiac.com/en_US/

I checked out the MSN web page today and got a more realistic account of the earthquake in Haiti, with its magnitude of 7.0. First, I was not aware that there was such a change in potential seismic activity from Florida (essentially nil) to a relatively nearby Caribbean island. Regardless, the amount of devastation is mind-boggling. I was sitting there thinking about how I bitch and moan about what isn't right while people out there are trying to survive in the most deplorable conditions. I plan to keep the Haitian earthquake victims in my prayers and will also make a small donation via one of the Catholic charities. I know that the Masses typically pass around anoth…

So, given how much fun we seem to have had with the other ultimate dream garage threads, I am going to start another one. Your Crazy uncle is offering to give you a Cadillac ATS brand new free and clear, but it must be the only performance car that you own. This will be a three part question. Part #1, Spec out your ATS and tell us about it! Part #two, you must pick 2 (only two) GM cars built between and including 1975 to 2004. The rub is, no performance vehicles allowed. Corvette is off the table, even if ti is the 305 cubic inch California emissions model. V8 Camaros and Firebirds are off the list with one exception. Fiero is excluded, as is say a Turbo…

There's been plenty of relationship/"who did you bang last week"/"look at that ass" threads here and let me present the other side of the story. The story of the guy who feels confused and (strangely) depressed because he hasn't been in a relationship since the end of sixth grade. I don't know how many people here are single and sick of it, but I know I am. I mean, it was fun for about maybe a year and a half, but then it got...old really quick. "Isn't it funny that when you're single all you see are couples [and when you're part of a couple all you see are hookers]?" Who said that? Jim Gaffigan? Well, he was right. Ah, I'm highly aware of how pathedic it seems to be …

With the switch to much smaller turbocharged engines, how many here are displacement snobs? I admit, I am a bit of one. I rather drive a DI 3.6L V6 than a turbo 4, even if the 4 had slightly better fuel economy and equal power.

WASHINGTON -- The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he's bedeviled by a fly in the White House. PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside. "We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals." During an interview for CNBC at the White House on Tuesday, a fly intruded on Obama's conversation with corr…

From the world of YouTube music, I bring you another smash hit from questionable means: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvgJEznqtms&feature=player_embedded#! I can just see it now ... pure driving EXCITEMENT!!!!!! scooting across a TV screen ... probably black in color ... chorus comes in and pure driving EXCITEMENT!!!!!! does a skid on a wet track ... then Don LaFontane or James Earl Jones comes in with, "Feel fly in your G6 with this new attractive lease offer of $1400 down and $199 a month."

Time for some brutal honesty. It's not secret that I'm dissapointed with the Buick lineup as of late. I personally think it sucks. The "fresh" names are lame, the two sedan, one SUV and pair of crossovers is completely retarded & the even worse is the lack of the following: - Affordable sedan (Century) - Personal Luxury 'Coupe' (2dr Reagal) - RWD cars (Regal ) - Bold Styling (last gen Riviera or Park Ave Ultra) - Supercharging or turbocharging, it used to be a Buick trademark - Names that have their roots in Buick history not "masturbation" in French. And the list goes on. But I'd like to take this opportunity to share with you my o…

For those of you who cannot bear the automotive thought of owning anything with any component designed more than 24 months ago, I bring you the 40" (you may wish to call it the 'double-dub'- frankly I have no idea if there's established slang for this already): Bear in mind that the 26" was a protoype in 2002.

Sounds like he's trying to make a comeback after, what, 20 years? Would you listen to his new stuff? I definitely would. He's got a new one out with Akon that I really like. You can tell the hint of MJ rhythm in it and it works out really good. I love MJ's old stuff, too, so I'd definitely be a fan...

Buick Lucerne - CXL V6 http://www.buick.com/lucerne Some highlights (over the others): * Cooled Seats * OnStar * Buick Reliability * Prestige look * Remote Start * Tire Pressure Monitoring System Drawback(s): * Manual Steering Column * No adjustable foot pedals * Analog Display * Some features found in other cars (such as the power rear sunshade, auto up/down for windows, remote window…

Here's a simple scenario. Let's say you have a few grand saved up and you want to buy a decent beater to keep the miles off of your nice later model car, and to also bear the brunt of going on long commutes to and from class and work, especially in inclement weather. You've found two options that are quite enticing. Here are those two options. Option One: 2005 Saabaru 9-2X AWD; 2.5L Boxer-Four; Five-Speed Stick; 57,000 miles; asking price of $4,000 with room to negotiate. Condition: filthy seats; rusty dent in the rear left side passenger door; horrible curb rash on all four tires, but otherwise sound. Option Two: 2002 Isuzu Axiom 4WD; 3.5L V6; Four-Speed Autotragic Slu…

I also reccommend muting the audio in the video above, bringing up YouTube again in a new window or tab, and playing Benny Hill's theme song just for a little added effect. Notable highlights from the video include a mid-90s Chevrolet Cavalier that does a three-sixty degree spin without hitting anything, a dude stupidly trying to haul ass in his Dodge Dakota, and how both a Trailblazer SS and a Crown Victoria …
