I'm getting pretty damned old so my car jones has been acting up a lot more lately. I started a list of cars I'd like to have before it's too late. You'll notice my choices ain't particularly exotic or even necessarily pricey. I've never been a fan of the hoity-toity, high-priced machinery that only the execs of fortune 500 companies can afford...anyway, here's my first crack at the bucket list. Laugh if you want. In no particular order: 1956-’57 Corvette (doesn’t need to be FI or even dual quad; these were simply gorgeous cars) 1956 Plymouth Fury ('nuff said) 1956 Mercury Montclair (had the looks, performance & handling of its “Mexican Road Race” Lincoln cousins…

What can I say... this is an apt analogy for our Country as a whole. . http://onlyndetroit.com/html/decay/ond-001...yunderworld.htm . I wonder how much manufacturing will remain state-side when my daughters are my age...? On the other hand the city of Detroit seems to be the most amazing & interesting example of decay & urban ruins. I would have a field day there with a camera. I bet i would fill up a 200GB hard drive with photos in less than a week.

Even after a wonderful afternoon (Sunday, November 4) of driving my older 4 MCs, I was already a bit shaky when I pulled into the gas station, having just avoided a collision when another driver turned left directly in front of me at the intersection just before the gas station entrance. So, when I stepped out of my '87 MC LS and was promptly greeted by a stranger who seemingly appeared out of the thin air [i think he just walked there, I never did see him near a car], asking several detailed questions about my car, I began shaking a bit more. The stranger noticed my shakiness and quickly said something about that I shouldn't be concerned...except, he kept REPEATING it …

What is your car music guilty pleasure? We all have our car music, the stuff that really gets us into the drive. But what is the car music that you love that you... really wouldn't admit to? The stuff that doesn't fit your personality or your car's personality..... This idea came to me as I was driving to work this morning in the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze Eco wearing french cuffs, cufflinks, and a pink "Cancer Sucks" bracelet in support of a family member while enjoying.... Marylin Manson - Lest We Forget. Great music for an urban morning commute and for those of you who know me well enough... completely outside of my personality. So what is your car music guilty pleasur…

I want to look 5 years into the future and see what treasures are sitting inside GM's walls right now. With all this speculation on engines, upcoming models, and now transmissions.. one's got to wonder. Chevy's getting a whole new face within the next year or two, Zeta will be debuting full-force, an 8-speed-automatic is in the rumor mill, Cadillac will be twice the company it is now, and GM's really cracking the whip on quality all across the board. Damn, I keep hearing new rumors and things "within the walls" and it just gets me antsy.. like that speculated 3V V8 and the "experimental 470 HP engine" found inside a CTS-V. And then with DI coming about and us hearing abou…

OUTSOURCING ANNOUNCEMENT Washington D.C. - Congress today announced that the Office of President of the United States will be outsourced overseas as of August 31. The move is being made to save $400K a year in salary, a record $521 Billion in deficit expenditures and related overhead. "The cost savings will be quite significant" says Congressman Adam Smith (R-Wash) who, with the aid of Congress research arm, the General Accounting Office has studied outsourcing of American jobs extensively. "We simply can no longer afford this level of outlay and remain competitive on the world stage," Congressman Smith said. Exporting American jobs has been a popular trend lately,…

My coworker in the cubicle next to me bought a '17 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk in gray...very sharp. We were out in the parking garage with a bunch of our coworkers checking it out and my Limited which were parked side by side...noting the various commonalities and differences. One error on the Trailhawk (in that medium gray) is that the left side window trim is all black while the right side trim is all black except for the back quarter window, which has bright window trim like my Limited. A factory 'oops' I presume. Sharp rig, though..

There comes a time when every paint job has reached the end of its natural life. Assuming you care about these kinds of things, what do you do? Wrap it or paint it? When it comes down to it your costs will be about even so it’s really a question of preference. If you’re looking a truly unique pattern or finish (like the sticker bomb wrap above) then wrapping s the way to go but nothing beats paint for durability. So, lay or spray? Weigh in here and we’ll let you know the results next week.

Well, I was looking into a Cobalt and quite interested in buying one but I mentioned to the Sales lady (Melanee) that I liked the Colorado. Well, that was it! She said that I should try one to see how much I liked it. Well, all I can say is that It's in my condo stall right now. I tested a LS without the Z71 pkg, and the truck that I bought. I ended up buying a Cherry Red Z71 LS crew cab 4x4 with power sunroof and what-not. It is quite the ride. It is a great leap back into the GM fold. I just hope that it is as strong as it feels. The 3.5 that everyone says is not powerful enough seems quite competent to me. Not that much difference than the 4L toyota engine even thoug…

Onstar has a lot of nice benefits, to be sure. In particular, I like the lockout protection, emergency notification, and telephone service. But I am feeling a bit uneasy about the monthly email diagnostic report, showing the mileage at the time, oil life index, and other diagnostic checks. I am half afraid to drive my truck the way I want to drive it for fear of being watched. If I want to do a burnout for some reason, or even exceed the speed limit... could this information that's being gathered be used against me, for example, if I have a warranty issue in the future? Don't get me wrong, I am not going to beat the hell out of my new truck, I love it too much to abu…

Hey guys. After receiving several steep tickets in the past couple years for speeding... a few of them where I was lucky to have gotten away with being radared at like 95mph since I had been doing 100+ I've broken down and bought the Phazer. I do not trust radar detectors since I've heard too many storiess of them giving NO warning at all. NOw i'm kicking myself since the archives are gone and I had not given so much as a glance at the Radar detector thread. Anyone else own a Phazer? I've got my plugged in and since I do not own a radar/laser gun I can't verify it's effectiveness. What's the word on these things? Do they really scramble the si…

so wisely i chose to suspend my direct tv last week. of course, until the other day, i didn't have any converter boxes either. well, i have one of them hooked up now. should be interesting to see if i am a go. does one need a whole new antennae also? i have the plasma, which has the digital tuner. I think i just need an antennae for that. i have 4 other TV's, of which 2 of them for now I will have converters for. I have an antennae hooked up to the first one which I believe is an HD antennae, but we'll see. Big question, is the converter box still worthless without a proper antennae? That's what i don't get. It's coming! Are you CONVERTED?

Beautiful oddity, a dream I woke up from last night. First scene, I am a passenger in a random vehicle, driving through an urban warehouse district. I look up, and there is an airliner that appears to be taking off from a nearby airport, coming in our direction. It climbs upward but its wings are on backwards, pointing forward. I gasp in wonder for a fleeting moment before it goes out of sight, obscured by the warehouses. It's a beautiful sunny day. Next scene, I am still with the same person, but I never see who it is, I just feel their presence. We are heading in the opposite direction from before because of the position of the sun. Again, it is a clear, sun…

Mazda Mazda3 Scion xB Bottom 3 affordable small cars Chevy Aveo Suzuki Reno Suzuki Forenza I cant really disagree, I just had to double check to make sure the two Suzukis were still on the market. And yes, the article does point out that the 3 worst inexpensive cars on the market are from a GM subsidiary. OH TEH BIAS!!! U.S. News made GM produce substandard compact cars!!!!!

So Saturday night after taking my family out to dinner at a Japanese Hibachi restaurant for the little guy's birthday (he's 4 years old now!), we ride through a couple of GM dealership lots so I can see what vehicles they have (I was looking for G8s, but also anything else that caught my eye). My wife on the other hand feels we should be going used for now to get "more car for less buck", which does make sense. While I was looking at the 2 remaining G8s on the BPG lot, she was looking at a used 2006 Buick Terraza CXL FWD. Afterwards, at the Chevy dealer across the street, while me and the little guy were looking at 'Bumblebe' (his name for the all-new Camaro), she was …

The story behind the choices... He has flip-flopped multiple times on what he wants. The choices are all ones he has mentioned. The truck was first choice, it's the beauty of the truck plus the stance of the 4x4 and the 6-bolt rims that were on the 4x4. My problem is the 4x4 part is useless in Oklahoma and the maintenance of a 4x4, plus here these trucks are still going for a premium, from $9-$12,000, depending on condition. I don't want one thats too rough. The civic because the ricer thing hasn't worn off here yet. All his buddies are running around in these damn things, but they're damn expensive for the same reasons. Just wondering what everyone else here thought regarding current Delta-based cars. The one I feel is the best is, of course, the one that isn't available here. I feel that the Opel Astra received all of the attention due to the demanding European market. Just take the first IONs for an example. It was panned by everyone. Car & Driver called it the "most disappointing all-new American car in over a decade" while they described the Cobalt compared to the ION as "from dead last to head of the class". It just doesn't seem right to me that we're forced to take Grade B or even C products compared to GM Europe's current Grade A products. Chevrolet Cobalt Chevrolet HHR …

So... It snowed today. The roads weren't all that bad, atleast around Brookville anyways. I thought I'd go to town and pick up a few things, which I did. No problems what-so-ever, even with my near bald tires. After that I went to my grandparents to read the paper and chat and whatnot. Just the usual when I'm in Brookville. After 45 minutes or so, I leave. As I walk to my car. I look towards the road in the distance, it sounds like something is going on. I thought I heard girls screaming. I didn't know what to think, but I got in, pulled out the driveway, and headed home which happened to be in the that direction. Traffic is stopping and I slowly pull up to the car in fro…

For the longest time, pretty much the last 2 years straight, since graduating with my $$$ Mechanical Engineering degree from Villanova (worth every cent, honestly, even if technically...), I've been "trying to figure it out". Always wanted to be IN the car industry, but could never figure out how/where/with what, and even things like sales if brought up would get "no..." reactions. Trying to figure it out meant graduating without the selection of job offers lined up, and so forth. I bet evryones probably heard of Ethanol or E85, most probably think its great, thinkin they wanna some sort of flexible fuel vehicle so you can even use it. I dont blame em, i mean for almost 1/2 the price why not bye soemthing that will chug corn. To start off, it takes 3 times more energy to make one gallon of ethanol then it does to make gasoline, So if thats the case why is it so much cheaper than gasoline? Goverment funding. The government is deliberately raising gas prices just so youll lean to buyin ethanol, and like i said it takes 3 times more the enrgy so sssintialy 3 times more the money, then how is the goverment pulling this off? theyre not it just mak…

Chevron hits oil in major Gulf of Mexico well Tue Sep 5, 2006 10:35 AM EDT By Mark McSherry NEW YORK (Reuters) - Three oil companies, led by Chevron Corp. (CVX.N: Quote), have successfully drilled for oil in the Gulf of Mexico's deep waters, suggesting there may be more oil in the region that already provides a quarter of U.S. output, the companies said on Tuesday. During the test, at record depths and pressure, the Jack No. 2 well flowed at a rate of more than 6,000 barrels of crude per day, Chevron said. That puts it on a par with discoveries in exploration hot spots such as the waters off Angola. With U.S. oil output in decline, big new fields are increasingly rar…

MEXICO CITY – A new swine flu strain that has killed as many as 68 people and sickened more than 1,000 across Mexico has "pandemic potential," the World Health Organization chief said Saturday, and it may be too late to contain the sudden outbreak. The disease has already reached Texas and California, and with 24 new suspected cases reported Saturday in Mexico City alone, schools were closed and all public events suspended in the capital until further notice — including more than 500 concerts and other gatherings in the metropolis of 20 million. A hot line fielded 2,366 calls in its first hours from frightened city residents who suspected they might have the disease. …

Saw two things this morning while running errands. First was a very old Chevrolet Suburban from the 1950's era in the process of being restored. It was on a trailer being towed someplace while I was driving on I5. Second thing was a Toyota Tacoma that had an interesting bumper sticker. Pro-America Buy America Anti-Trump So not a political statement or discussion I want to start, but I am interested in what others think is meant by the Pro-America/Buy America part of this. IMHO I find this a contradiction that they are driving a Toyota with that part of the bumper sticker. Thoughts?

Toronado Appreciation

You know, I found a little more respect for the last generation Toronado today. I was browsing the Heritage section of Oldsmobile's site today, and I looked through the 1980s photos. There was a photo of a basket handle shifter, a part that was sometimes seen on hi-po Chevelles and Camaros back in the late Sixties and Seventies. When I go to a classic car show, I always get a kick out of that particular interior piece. I thought it was initially part of a concept car's interior. Then I saw that a part of the side-out pop-up read "1986 Toronado." Also, the last-generation Toronado dash had such an array of interesting features. But, I'll let the photos try to speak that p…

Hypothetical~ You take your best friend to look at your girlfriend's uncle's car- it's for sale. You don't know the uncle very well, but your buddy likes this brand and this particular car. After some talk & tirekicking, the Uncle tells him the price is $500. Friend accepts and pays him by counting out ten $50s. As the uncle shakes his & your hand, he discreetly palms you one of the $50 bills. Do you pocket the $50 or give it to your friend?

This is kinda of a interesting idea. I usually frown on even the thought of doing it, but due to some of the major sucesses I've seen ( friend-05 Sunfire/ Co-worker 03 Cavalier), it has my considering the idea myself.. Keep in mind, this is going to be the beater, not the main car. I want a nice, new car that I can baby. The only requirements is that is has air, a Cd player, and decently low miles... More than my rusty beater has now... So far I've nosed though the world of 03-05 cavaliers, due to the low price, decent on gas, and pretty easy to fix. So far I found a 03 LS sport w/ 52k for 5 grand, and 04 base sedan with 49k for 4500...both with repaire…

I was looking for dual quadcore system as my workstation at home and was wondering will the speed difference be significant enough to pay the higher price for the 55-- processors. 5570 Nelahem 5450 Harpertown

Last week was my last goof-off trip of summer as I plan to move within the next month. Up in Canada, I had two rental cars...an Allure (LaCrosse) for a week followed by a Camry for a day. In the Allure and in all GM products, when the door locks are in the closed position, you cannot open the door from the inside. In the Camry (and I believe in Chrysler and Ford products), when the door locks are in the closed position, you still can open the door from the inside. Maybe I'm showing bias for GM (so what else is new), I think that the closed door lock should also mean one cannot open the door freely with the handle inside the car. I've never understood why Toyota …

http://www.tomdispatch.com/post/174904/mic...risis_hits_home The Bad News at the Pump The $100-plus Barrel of Oil and What It Means By Michael T. Klare On Monday March 3, the price of crude oil reached $103.95 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, surpassing the record set nearly 30 years ago during another moment of chaos in the Middle East. Will that new mark prove distinctive in the annals of world history or will it be forgotten as energy prices drop, just as they did following their April 1980 peak? When oil costs are plotted over time, the 1980 oil crisis -- prompted by Ayatollah Khomeini's Iranian revolution -- stands out as a sharp spike on t…

As I sit typing this, snow blows and falls outside... The temperature? -46 Degrees. That's right, skin will FREEZE within four minutes. But that's by far not the bad news in this case... It's supposed to stay like this until Friday. Should I burn some Toyotas to keep warm? I can't be the only one bearing the brunt of winter- What's the weather like where you are?

And finally, a picture of Reg's Aztek: Okay, well that's not really my car (boy though do I wish it were back from the body shop already). Cool photoshop done by a poster over at skyroadsterforums. In the post he even gives a link on how to do the above chopping; check it out here if you're interseted in learning for yourself: http://www.skyroadster.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10982 And while shopping the other day at an outlet mall in central NJ, I found a sunshade at the Disney Store Outlet that has Lightning McQueen's eyes so that your real car can look somewhat like a Pixar-inspired CARS car! And at a clearnace price of $4.99 too!

For some reason, I've been eying the old Opel GT lately. There's something about the thought of an uncommon vintage mini-Vette that just leaps out and grabs me. Of course, eyeballing gives way to Craigslisting the hell out of a 200 mile radius of your area and, as my luck would have it, I found a drivable example somewhere in Nashville. Did you click the link? Okay, okay. I already know what you're thinking. Yeah, the impromptu camo paintjob was more than likely done by someone at some point in the little Opel's lifetime with a few too many rattle cans of paint, a few too many cans of Coors, but far fewer bright ideas. Yes, it has its share of dents and dings and minor s…

I quit smoking. After trying the gum and having that fail miserably I went to my doctor and got a prescription for the stop smoking drug Chantix. It doesn't totally get rid of the cravings but it does make them more managable. After about 5 weeks I took myself off of it because I didn't like the side effects. I still fight with it everyday, but I won't cave in. I keep thinking of the money I am saving. This is the toughest thing I have done. For anyone out there trying to quit, good luck with it, I know how hard it is. Think of the money you'll save by quitting. I smoked a carton a week and her in VA a carton of the brand I smoked was $28. $28x4=$112. That's how much…

Rather than dump them here, or start a bunch of posts...heres incentive to take a peek at the blog! We have all seen the Tundras, and now the FJ, sitting on the lots - even as rebates begin to hit the "IT'S FREE!!!" status. I have come up with a few possible special editions that may help Toyota move some of the inventory and get the sales back on track. Just a few of my early ideas, and I would love to hear yours! For the FJ Cruiser: The San Andreas Fault Edition - You never know where it will crack next! To help hide the unsightly cracks, I suggest a stripe kit that has the look of ripped asphalt at the belt line. The Zebra/safari edition: Again - those stripes will really keep the unsightly cracks out of the public eye. The Tundra: The Honey Bee Edition: Th…

Yup, Borders Books, in the periodicals I was, looking at the car magazines (with my back to the gay magazines) when these two guys, dressed up-to-the-minute, 20-something, walk up to the gay magazine section. One of them pulls up a copy of "Gay Times" and laughs. They both look at the dude on the cover, then laugh again. "Hey, we should send in a subscription for (insert a missing friend's name here). That would be hilarious! We could put his address on it and everything!" They linger there, then move on... I need to ask a question here... what's the fascination? Would they have had as much fun looking at a yoga magazine? A magazine on knitting, rock climbing,…

Know what replaced our G6 just today? Go on. Guess. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Well, here's a clue. It's got four-doors. It's red. And a blue Camry was setting in front of the dealership that we bought it from. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done guessing yet? Yes? Okay, good. You want to know what it is? You sure? Absolutely positive? Well, okay then. The one and only 2007 North American Car of the Year: the 2007 Saturn Aura XE V6 in Berry Red Metallic. I'll have photos as soon as I get my hands around a decent camera. So why did we get rid of our G6? It was a bad car, right? Nope. Not at all. That is, if it hadn't been in an…

The road to hell is paved...and striped and called Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa. Swerved to avoid a Galant who herself swerved to avoid some baglady who felt like walking out in front of traffic and I caught a ridiculously raised manhole cover. Sure enough, it put a whole in my oil pan. Bad news: it'll cost £1100 at the shop in labor alone. Good news: pan itself, I can get for £40. I'm going to attempt to do this with a friend of mine over several days next week (I have a Monte Carlo rental now). Sigh...

from melodicrock.com This is ridiculous - they can't just go into the studio together and jam. Everything has to involve lawyers, contracts, and paperwork. They're a joke that's been running for 11 years....remember when they used to be such a tight, yet carefree party band (with both Dave and Sammy)? You have to feel sorry for their fans, they've been teased way too many times.

I also reccommend muting the audio in the video above, bringing up YouTube again in a new window or tab, and playing Benny Hill's theme song just for a little added effect. Notable highlights from the video include a mid-90s Chevrolet Cavalier that does a three-sixty degree spin without hitting anything, a dude stupidly trying to haul ass in his Dodge Dakota, and how both a Trailblazer SS and a Crown Victoria …

Ok, I'm at a software conference/convention over at Disney's contemporary resort. A few questions for your native Floridians (I know a couple of you are from here): 1) What's with the flipping humidity? 2 seconds outside and you think to yourself: dang, I should've put deoderant on my balls. 2) What's with the STUPID "ApplianceDirect" commercials? They are about 15 minutes long, they've got some wacko pseudo-homely chick and some crazy guy talking non-stop -- and they alternate yelling "ApplianceDirect!".
