And it's not what you think.. :AH-HA_wink: While wondering the local used car lot, I stopped to look at the Blazers.....then I saw something caught my eye- a TrailBlazer. While looking at the Blazers, I though how cool it would be to have a truck again...one that could tow would be even better.. Anyways, I've always had a soft spot for TrailBlazers. This one was a 03 with 112k for 7988. (it was an LS, in case I didn't mention it...) With both my cars almost paid off, and I may wait a while (little) before another new car. I would mind a truck that I could quickly pay off......and replace the wagon. With gas about 3.30 here, I wonder how much they might knoc…

I am rethinking my approach to getting a car. I think the Regal would be good but it has 350,000kms and I wouldn't trust that so would it be good to get a new motor from GM Performance Parts? I would want a 3800 Series II but at GM Performance Parts they are Supercharged. I like the idea of a supercharged Regal. Maybe a new trans or one off of another Regal. Would it be worth to do this? It has 350,000 kms on the car but it could be capable of getting more right with a new engine? If anyone knows how much a new crate motor is then please tell me. I think I may just get the Regal now before it goes to the wreckers. They only want $200 or less. WOuld this be a wise choice …

I just got back from a two day trip to North Dakota for work. We flew into Bismarck the first day, and the weather was horrible...snow, wind, ice. Our plane was a six-seater twin engine Cessna and there was so much ice building up on the wings that we started losing some airspeed as we approached Bismarck. Most of the time we had to stay above 12,000 feet to avoid the ice, which is pretty tough on your body when you're in a small plane that doesn't have cabin pressure. The crosswinds were fierce. I love flying and never get scared, but I was kinda nervous as we were landing. Our poor little plane was being tossed around like a toy. We did our business in Bismarck,…

who thinks that the "Maniac" Kia commercial is the lamest, most annoying ad in all human history. I almost never watch TV but the TV is always on at the restaurant, set to ESPN or some other sport program, that ad is on all the freekin' time and it makes my brain bleed. Seriously, dry-humping a Kia Optima? to the THIRD power!

She got all fat, cranky and nauseous for NINE MONTHS just so you could pop out and bawl your little head off. Don't forget her special day this Sunday. Last week I drove my mom to Target to pick up a wedding gift for a relative. When we got out of the car, she looked at the fender of the car parked next to us and said "Look at that, it looks like somebody put sunglasses for a person with 3 eyes on that car." I said "That's a Buick Lucerne. Those are Buick portholes."

Describe a car that you think would be desirable? What would be your perfect next car. How big would it be? How would it be powered? Describe it's overall shape and its interior and the color you would choose for both the inside and outside of the car. Which bodystyle would you choose. Feel free to invent body styles that still do not exist. And of course, how much chrome would you like on your car, and where?

I have always wanted to know who this song was about. I have a guess,do you? Once carried through the current And been swept away The king is in the closet He's hiding from today And though he owns all fortunes This is where he'll stay And his world is filled with darkness Turning grey Gazing out the window Of the 42nd floor He is separate from all others No one knocks upon his door And it might as well be raining Cuz the sunlight hurts his eyes And his ears will never hear the children's cries Once proud and full of passion He fought the cause of man Many people loved his courage Many followed his command He changed the old into the new And the cour…

You know how older (and maybe newer, but can't recall seeing any) office chairs go up and down by spinning them like a nut on a bolt? Yeah, mine is like that, and I got a reminder why I don't like the design, at least when the "nit" (being the base of the chair" is threaded in plastic. Turn around last night at my desk, and there was a crack, followed by shaft (along with the rest of the chair and me on it)braking through the base and hitting the floor.

Allow me to introduce my daughter, Sierra Skye!! Born Wednesday, July 14th at 10:56 PM. Weight: 6 pounds, 13 ounces; Length: 20 inches. Mom and baby are both doing well at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (Hamilton Township, Mercer County). Both big brothers, Justin (4) and Anthony (16), are very happy to have a sister. As for the name, it should be no mystery where "Sierra" comes from (still to this day I'm surprised the wife went along with this choice!), and the wife always liked Sky(e) (yes, from the roadster!) as a middle name. My last name begins with a "R", so that makes Sierra's initials SSR too!!

As I'm quite bored (there's nothing like pouring rain on a car lot to make things very slow and boring), I thought I'd pose a question. If you could resurrect one, and only one, now defunct car brand, which would you choose, why, and how would you do it? I've been thinking about this and it's a tough call. Part of me wants to say Pontiac, because I would love to see GM work harder on performance models, but my heart says Mercury. My first car was a 1982 Mercury Cougar station wagon, to me Cougar has always brought a feeling of excitement to mind (even in that wagon, at least a little bit, I'm not sure why, but that is how I thought of them as a kid and it never lef…

In companion with the 'Birth Year' thread, it might be interesting to see where your 'soul' points, automotively. In my observations, it seems most car people have a fondness for cars they grew up with, or vehicles that were common when they were in their teens. Never took a scientific poll or anything, but I never fell into that category; I've always been drawn to the '57-64 American era primarily, whereas I 'grew up' around late '70s, mid 80s junk (I'm a '66 model year). My topic, my rule; if you post multiples, they have to stay within an 8-yr span of time. In my top 5 of all time :

Yeah.... This week totally blows, partly because last week we had two snow days that messed up the scheduling somewhat. Last Thursday I had a Calc 2 exam (average was 45; I thought I did good when I left and I end up with a 48?!?), then my crazy ass professor gives us a quiz today, and homework due Thursday that I've been working on for 2 hours and still am not done (and that we didn't learn until yesterday). Oh, and that's just Calc. Physics? Well, since we missed a lecture due to the snow day, we didn't learn any of the stuff for this homework (which is due tonight) until yesterday so I'm stuck doing it tonight, and oh, I have a Physics exam on Thursday. Oh, and then …

I met up with my old friend Dustin in Ocean City this weekend. When I left Maryland in 2003, he was working at the dealership there as sort of a gopher. Now, he has his own bodyshop with 3 fulltime employees, and he is specializing in restoration work, hot rods and muscle cars. He and his crew did the paint and bodywork on this flawless Nova, which has been appraised at $300k. Every body seam has been smoothed, the firewall and dash cut out and custom-fabricated, the drip rails have been molded in. Only the best of everything went into this Nova, which was completed 2 years ago. The owner is selling it, and he had nothing but praise for Dustin. I am proud of this k…

So, anyone ever had it before? Did it go away quickly? Anyone mistake you for a drug addict? I woke up with it this morning in both eyes. I am absolutely miserable. I can't see worth a $h!, my eyes ache constantly, and I have to clean $h! outa my eyes all the time. I'm hoping that it goes away soon, but the problem I have is that I am allergic to sulfa drugs. And, all the eye drops for pink eye are sulfa based. So they gave me some ointment that might work or might not. If it doesn't I'll hae to keep trying different things until something works.

It's now been six consecutive years that I've attended the North American International Auto Show. Two years ago, not long after the start of the country-wide recession, I posted a review of the show which revealed the automotive depression running deep into the veins of all those in this industry. Last year, this disheartening feeling was so bad that I didn't even post a review. Although Ford was doing better, GM and Chrysler had just been bailed out by the government and their future existence still seemed to be somewhat up in the air. Porsche, Nissan, and others skipped out on the show completely, and the most expensive car at the show was tucked inconspicuously in a l…

Khabibullo Abdusamatov of the Pulkovo Astronomic Observatory in St. Petersburg said Monday that temperatures will begin falling six or seven years from now, when global warming caused by increased solar activity in the 20th century reaches its peak, RIA Novosti reported. RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - Brazil’s public health system will begin providing free sex-change operations in compliance with a court order, the Health Ministry said Friday. Ministry spokesman Edmilson Oliveira da Silva said the government would not appeal Wednesday’s ruling by a panel of federal judges giving the government 30 days to offer the procedure or face fines of $5,000 a day. “The health minister was prompted by the judges’ decision,” Silva said. “But we already had a technical group studying the procedure with the idea of including it among the procedures that are covered.” Article continues: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20323334/

With my habit of doing project cars, I am feeling the need to do my own body and paint work. The stumbling block for my projects always seems to be dealing with the bodyshop - either they don't get to it, don't get it, or cost way too much. I'm thinking that the answer may be to do it myself, so I'm looking for any and all input on the subject. I have a huge commercial compressor, but I need to convert it from 3-phase electric to 220 in order to run it here. There may be another alternative compressor in the mix as well (brand new and never used). Years ago, my Dad bought a Binks #7 paint gun but I'm not sure where that is now. I want the paint on my cars to be …

My SKY image came through yesterday!!! I go to the dealership on Saturday to write up the paperwork and put a deposit down, although the sales manager has already put it into the system with the options I want. I was working a late yesterday (actually, almost always do) and I get an e-mail from the manager saying that my image arrived, he put in my options, and I can now officially say that I have ordered my '07 SKY. The only downside is that I wanted the black & red two-toned leather interior to go with the Silver Graphite exterior. There's a constraint on that interior, so I told him to go ahead and change the interior to the all black leather interior. Hope…

You can look at certain days of the year in Wikipedia, and it will tell you all the historical things that happened on that day in various years. My birthday seems to be fairly significant in American history, a few times. Interesting... June 19: * 1846 - The first baseball game under recognizable modern rules is played in Hoboken, New Jersey, United States. * 1862 - U.S. Congress prohibits slavery in United States territories, nullifying the Dred Scott Case. * 1865 - Over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, slaves in Galveston, Texas, United States, are finally informed of their freedom. The anniversary is still officially celebrated in Tex…

I just looked at the exchange rates this morning. It's sick. Bad for travel and bad for the balance of trade. The Euro has broken the $ 1.40 mark...meaning you need that much in dollars to buy ONE Euro....theoretically, upon its introduction, is that it was to be 1:1 given that there is so much activity between the US and the EU. I've decided to cut back on trips to Europe anyway after I figured out how much less stressful it is to vacation in the US and Canada. That being said, the US and Canadian dollar are TIED. Unbelievable. When I was living in Seattle from 97-00, the US dollar could buy 1.52 Canadian dollars (granted that was horrible for our Canuck friends).…

Doesn't apply to nav radios, but plain jane ones. I always find writing English on the buttons was rather stupid, especially when they want to go global. I much prefer the ones we have up here in Canada, where we replace all English with icons. Also troublesome is that last time I saw a nice six disc changer unit for cheap, but I couldn't get it because all the buttons were different, and if I install it, it would look odd. Why don't they just make one radio with different firmware for metric and imperial units, and bother with the buttons?? Waste of development costs if you ask me.

My brother in law is a state trooper. Last Friday, he was working a DWI shift (overtime). Basically, the Fed gov't has provided block-grants to the states so the states can provide troopers overtime to work extra shifts and crack down on DWI's. Last Friday, my brother-in-law had a drunk run a red light and smash into the front fender/driver's door of his squad at an estimated speed of 50mph. My brother in law had a broken clavicle and was knocked out by the blow. The Crown Vic's don't have side airbags - so he likely hit his head on the side of the door. The radio in his squad was damaged by the blow, so he had to use his sholder radio. He was …

Hola! Figured I've tell about recent events in my life. Yay, I feel like Cory. Cell Phone The prelude to this story is that when I got this phone, (previously used by my sister because I dropped my old phone in coolant so she was "rewarded" the new phone and I received hers) there was 1 of the 4 screws that hold the front of the phone to the back together. Well, today at work I was unwrapping a pallet of items (it's always wrapped in saran wrap type stuff) when the saran wrap got tangled onto my phone without me noticing. Well, I pulled the saran a little harder because it was stuck on the pallet and my phone falls out of my pocket. So I pick it up and the front of it …

The star of the 2004 movie "Crash" was pulled over at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday in the town of Newbury after he was caught on police radar traveling north at high speed in a rented 2009 Chevrolet Impala, said Vermont State Police Sgt. 2008 was a year of few cheers. There was an abundance of misery to go around. The continuing mortgage meltdown led to the credit crunch and the sinking of the stock market. Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns went bye-bye. Madoff’s $50 billion mother of all Ponzi schemes further shook investors’ confidence. Jobs disappeared. Politics was big this year as Obama’s hope and change resonated with the country, and Sarah Palin’s “you betcha” shtick grew old. The price of a gallon of gas exceeded $4 and resulted in people’s wallets being cleaned out and the sales of SUVs decimated. And then the price of gas plummetted to $1.50 due to the sinking economy. In the land of che…

She's sitting in front of the camera on Local 4 for the NAIAS Charity Preview. Well, she's with her husband and son. The reporters ask her (like 12 year old) son what his favoite vehicle here is and he says, "Well that one over there *pointing at some Jeep*" and Granholm just has to say, "Well he does have enough money for it." Then they're asking her about why this show helps Detroit (read: Big 3) out so much. She responds by saying that it's both an "offensive and defensive strike. They're now seeing that the Chinese are huge competitors and are coming soon. They're going to really have to step their game up if they want to compete with the Chinese automakers." What a…

OK, I was logged onto AOL for a few hours on Sunday, not using it, just leaving it connected while I watched TV. Damned if the thing didn't have to reconnect every few minutes!! I absolutely HATE AOL, I'm dying for a good alternative, pref. not dial up. I'm looking at this SBC/yahoo DSL service that attaches to my phone service, it's only $15/month. I don't know yet if that's just an intro rate, like the first year, then it goes up to the "regular" price. If that's the rate, tho, it's cheaper than my AOL dial-up ($25), and it has to be better, right? I mean, it can't be worse! Ok then, i…

OK, I feel a bit odd making this post here, but you guys have been my friends for so long now that I had to let you know what's up. Later this year, I will be publishing a collection of my writings from about 1979 to the present. For a while now, I have been sifting through old notebooks, and boxes of papers to extract this stuff. The book will be composed of prose, poetry and song lyrics that have needed a mission for a very long time. I'll update you later as things progress.

No matter what cars are in my fleet, I always want to drive the most recent acquisition the most. Since the Blazer hit the road, the wagon has been sleeping in the barn and the Silverado has done quite a bit of driveway sitting. It has close to four times the mileage of the truck and the wagon is still a "freshly done" project, yet I choose to drive this old soldier most often these days. I'm sure the manual trans. has something to do with it.

Normally I never work on the Odyssey, but it needed an oil change and transmission fluid change, so instead of getting raped at the dealership, I thought I'd do it myself. So last night, I extracted the oil through the dipstick with my Mityvac evacuator. Then I poured in fresh oil thorugh the fill cap. This morning I drove it a while to get the ATF warmed up. I drained the ATF through the drain plug, and refilled it with a funnel into the ATF dipstick. I drove it around the block. But then I noticed some bad noises and gear slippage. I opened the owner's manual again, and lo and behold, what I thought was the engine oil dipstick was the ATF dipstick, and what I thou…

I have traveled to many many cities in America and I am just curious to see what everybody thinks is the greatest city in America. Here are the rules: 1) You must pick a city outside of the state you live in if you have traveled out of the state you live in. 2) If you wish, you may also pick a city inside of the state you live in if you really think it is worthy as well. 3) Optional - Pit the two choices against each other for fun. So here are my picks: 1) Phoenix -- It's dry, hot, new, fresh, and has hot women. 2) Los Angeles -- Because even if there are many cities around it, LA is all encompassing. Entertainment, Beaches, Theme Parks, and lots of differen…

Well I was thinking about trading my 2005 Silverado in on a new Pontiac GTO. Probably won't happen but ive been thinking about it. Anyway I need some help with info on the GTO. If I get one it would be a 6 speed manual. Anyone have any idea how strong the clutches and rear ends are in these cars. I wouldn't rip the car around alot maybe once in a while. I just want to know if one of these cars are pretty reliable?

Has anyone noticed the proliferation of round, red taillights on vehicles these days? No matter the outward shape of the lens, the lit part is increasingly the same on so many vehicles nowadays. Everything from a Hyundai Elantra to a Chrysler 300 has these same, round illuminations when seen at night. BORING!

This is from the @CheersnGears twitter account @CheersnGears: When GM had all its domestic brands, which was your favorite? @TheGMSource: When are WE going to work together on new content? @CheersnGears: What did you have in mind? @TheGMSource: I believe a serious discussion on a merger would do us both some good. I'll send a C&G prize pack to the member who comes up with the best response.

17 terrorists were arrested today. They had 3 tonnes of Ammonium nitrate which is 3 times the amount of the Oklahoma City bombing. The police said they won't release the targets. They also had a cellphone detonator it looked like. They were all form Canada and someone apparently worked for Atomic Energy Canada.

No, I'm not trying to convert anybody here to communism. I'm just expressing my happiness at going to school in a town full of people with more money than they know what to do with. Why? Because, there are certain people in this world, who, upon breaking one mug, decide that their entire set of dishes is now no good for them. Then I can get the whole set of dishes for $20 at the local thrift store. It even comes with a sugar bowl and creamer cup! I have no idea when I'll ever need a cup for creamer, but it certainly is nice to know I have one around.

So, after work today, I was looking to see for a batting helmet with a cage for my daughter and a baseball bat for my son. The girls softball league this year requires a batting helmet with a cage while my son out grew his baseball bat. In April, I bought my daughter her very own softball bat...anyhoo, going in and out of various sports stores in my area to see who has what and what deals could be had before I collect my little rug rats after school to make the purchases with them....I finally do the last sports store. I get out of that sports store to finally head on home to pick them up when out of nowhere a fire red 1959/1960 Corvette sneaks up on me like a UFO and di…

Most of today's cars are very computerized, full of gadgets and like all things high tech they become obsolete in just few years (for example cars only 5-6 years old lack Bluetooth, have screens that look like cheap kids toys, etc). Today's cars have better screens, more high tech toys but in 5-6 years they will be obsolete as well. Lets say you want to get a car you would like to keep for a very long time, lets say at least 15-20 years. Something like Mustang, Camaro, Challenger or Corvette, something that you can have in addition to your daily driver, a weekend car for your soul and fun, something that you will keep very long time. What car do you think you …

So i was at my Grandmas house in northern Montana and of course its rural so my dad usually takes us out to drive. Well he let my sister drive out here on the dirtroads, she did fine other than shes super bad with the clutch. And after she was done my brother mentioned driving into town (20 miles) and do some "Geocaching", so my dad let me drive and ito town on the highway and i did fine until we reached town. So the new Mega Cab needed some gas so we pulled into the gas station. And at the end of the Gas Station theyre were 2 poles like most gas stations. And as i was pulling out thats when the trouble began. my dad told me just go straight and even to the left maybe. We…

So I drop by my buddy's body shop today, and tghey are starting on two interesting projects...a 1968 firebird that is badly in need of a resto, but all original and untouched, a 350 4 speed numbers matching car. I can see that...I'll post pics if I get a chance... Second car is a HARD hit that the owner is sentimental about, and is making a large cash payment in addition to the insurance to repair. Car was hit so hard that it ripped the passenger door completely off the car, buckled the firewall, bent the A pillar, shoved the windshield out of the car, bent the dashboard, buckled the passenger floor boards (although not irrepairably) buckled the trunk floor and inner wh…

Perhaps I am wound a little too tight, but my Wife & I will soon be in the market for a midsize sedan, and nothing in GM's lineup appeals to either one of us. A big reason? GM's abandonment of traditional domestic style controls! Wipers belong on the left hand stalk; the headlight switch belongs on the dash, and most of all, I expect a *real* tilt style column in my GM vehicle! Ford seems to get it; GM doesn't. The new Fusion eschewed a Mazda 6 style steering column, for traditional domestic controls. If I want import style controls, I will by an import. Fit and finish and powertrain sophistication, has improved with new GM vehicles. Unfortunately, GM veh…
