Cadillac
Cadillac, founded in 1902 in Detroit, quickly gained a reputation for precision and innovation, becoming a leader in American luxury vehicles. Acquired by General Motors in 1909, it set standards with iconic models like the Eldorado and DeVille. Though it faced challenges in the modern era, Cadillac has reinvented itself with bold design and a shift toward electric vehicles, now leading GM’s luxury EV efforts with models like the Lyriq and Celestiq.

GM's Cadillac Considers Hybrids for All Its Vehicles Link to Original Article @ Bloomberg | By Greg Bensinger June 26 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp.'s Cadillac luxury-vehicle division is considering hybrid versions of all its models as U.S. gasoline prices stay near $3 a gallon and the brand's sales decline. "Pretty much every program I am looking at going forward has got a hybrid as part of it,'' John Howell, Cadillac's product chief, said today in an interview in New York. He didn't give a time frame for adding the gasoline-electric versions. Cadillac is looking for ways to revive demand after its U.S. sales fell 3.4 percent last year, the first annual decl…

General Motors has a patented method for manufacturing the CT6, one that includes an industry exclusive way to weld aluminium with steel, not to mention the use of advanced materials sprinkled in. As a result, 25 states don’t have a single collision repair shop approved to work on the CT6 in the event of a crash. Only 150 shops nationwide possess the expertise to repair the CT6 per GM guidelines– in fact, GM won’t even allow uncertified shops to touch the big Caddy, withholding structural measurements and parts from the unapproved. http://www.gminsidenews.com/articles/the-cadillac-ct6-is-irreparable-in-25-states/ As the article mentioned, many shops …

Will the new Cadillac CT6 have the rakish, expressive styling of the Elmiraj show car, or will it be a conservative evolution of the luxury brand’s current design language? While those questions will linger probably until the CT6 is unveiled later in 2015, AUTOMOBILE has learned this about the sedan, which uses General Motors’ new Omega full-size rear-wheel-drive platform: It will have an aluminum body. The Cadillac CT6, which will be a bit smaller than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class but larger than the midsize CTS, also will be the first to use an engine, or engines, from GM’s upcoming four-/six-/eight-cylinder family. We have learned that while a CT6 Vsport has been approved …

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2015/06/chart-day-cadillac-cts-sales-41-2015/ In each of the last five months, General Motors has failed to sell more than 1,800 copies of the CTS. Sub-2K CTS sales months are unheard-of. Even in 2012, when CTS volume slid 15%, Cadillac averaged 3,914 CTS sales per month in the United States and never fell below 2,300. First Drive: 2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon Euro Dash: Who Needs a Luxury Crossover? [source: Motor Trend] August 16, 2009 By Todd Lassa Photography by David Freers If ever there were a car designed to test the marketing mettle of the New GM, this is it. In a sneak peek a few years back, Cadillac said the CTS Sport Wagon was designed to lead its assault on the European market, where BMW 5 Series Tourings and Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagons sell like luxury crossovers. Cadillac expected to sell just 4000 per year in the U.S., mostly to GM's own employees, like Bob Lutz, and the well-heeled enthusiast friends of automotive journalists. Finances …

After speaking this morning with Cadillac's product communications manager, David Caldwell, we've fleshed out some near-term product plans for General Motors' luxury brand – in particular the timetable for the 2010 CTS Sport Wagon. The automaker's Lansing Grand River plant is scheduled to begin building the stylish rear-drive load lugger in early May, and the first examples should be at dealerships around Memorial Day (May 25), or perhaps early June. Cadillac's first-ever U.S-market station wagon (no, the SRX crossover doesn't count) is expected to offer a reasonable 25 cubic feet of space beneath its rakish rear glass, and while it rides on the same 113.4-inch wheelbas…

A lot of talk on web sites have been coming up that the CTS V coupe may make it's way into NHRA Pro Stock with or with out GM's help. The G6 GXP coupes are good till 2013 but many teams are already looking got a new car to move to. Most still want the GM power but have little to chose from for a Coupe body. Reports have the Camaro as a problem for the series as the roof line c pillar will not work with the tubs and needs to be relocated. NHRA is not willing to let them reshape the roof. The cars are not stock but they would like to keep them at least close in the green house area. This is where the CTS V comes in. The C pillar and roof line works well to adapt to the …

Given that Cadillac plans to offer the new CTS-V in overseas markets for the first time, they felt they had to up their game in order to compete with the likes of the M5 and the AMG E63. The new engine offers so much more torque at all speeds than the V10 in the M5 that driveability should be much better regardless of whether the manual or automatic transmission is installed. For those who prefer to handle the gear selection process on their own, the same Tremec 6060 used in the ZR1 is paired up with a dual plate clutch. The dual plate clutch provides the necessary torque capacity with a lower pedal effort. Drivers who spend more of their time stuck in traffic jams or …

Cadillac's sales targets in Europe look doomed Neil Winton: European Perspective Link to Original Article @ DetNews BARCELONA, Spain -- While Cadillac introduces new models into Europe, industry watchers here are busily slashing their sales forecasts for the General Motors luxury brand. And the recent launch here in Spain of three new gas-guzzling leviathans suggests that GM's attempt to sell in Europe's premium sector with Cadillacs, Corvette sports cars and Hummers is more of an attempt to sell a few more cars into niche sectors with high margins, rather than a serious attempt to storm the luxury citadel owned jointly by BMW, Mercedes and Audi. Cadillac's Europea…

The ATS launches in Summer 2012 and will be built at GM's Lansing Grand River Assembly along with the Cadillac CTS. The V8 RWD SRX (which didn't sell well simply because it was odd looking) was replaced by a FWD V6 Equinox. The V8 RWD STS is going away - and NOTHING is replacing it (The XTS is not a replacement for the STS). The V8 DTS is being replaced by a V6 that rides on the same platform as a Chevy Impala and Buick LaCrosse.. Who cares if the V6 has slightly more horsepower than the Northstar? It's lacks in torque.. And the Northstar in the DTS was weak for the segment it competed in anyway. So the V6 may be just as good as the V8 in the old DTS. Wow. Great news. It's still too weak for a full-size luxury sedan. 15 months ago, Cadillac announced that it would be raising the price of the new CTS. This move worried dealers as it would cause buyers to look away. It seems their fears were founded as sales of the CTS this past year dropped 3.8 percent when compared to last year. Cadillac is doing something about that. Automotive News got their hands on a memo issued to Cadillac dealers yesterday which announced that it would reduce sticker prices on most 2015 CTS models by $1,000 to $3,000. It also plans on increasing the amount of standard features in the CTS. "We're taking what we've seen are the more desirable optional features for customers and making them more readily available…

The fate of the Cadillac ELR has been up in the air with no real updates to the model since it was introduced in the 2014 model year, and Cadillac's boss saying there will likely not be a second-generation model. But at least for the time being, Cadillac has introduced some new changes for the 2016 model. No real big changes on the ELR's exterior, only a tweaked grille and wreath-less crest. But the powertrain has seen some big changes. New software upgrades boost power output from 207 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque to 233 horsepower and 373 pound-feet. The increase in power drops 0-60 MPH time by 1.5 seconds to 6.4 seconds and top speed is increased to 130 MPH …

More and more automakers are beginning to roll out high-performance driving schools to those who purchase one of their performance vehicles. Cadillac is the latest one. Starting with the 2017 Cadillac ATS-V and CTS-V, buyers will be eligible for a two-day course at Cadillac's V-Performance Academy. The Academy is based at Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club near Las Vegas, Nevada. The course "is designed for drivers of all experience levels and includes dynamic car control exercises, visual skill development, and proper cornering techniques." There will also be time in the classroom to explain various things. We'll admit Cadillac's V-Performance Academy …

We are now starting to get the lo down on everything to expect from the 2017 Cadillac CT6 Plug-In Hybrid. Before now, the most popular and factual stories about it were that it was going to be produced in China at GM's shared (with SAIC) plant in Shanghai. What we know: - The vehicle will be powered by GM's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder coupled with two electric motors. - The lithium-ion battery pack will share the Chevy Volt's 18.4 kilowatt-hour capacity - Full system horsepower is 449HP - 0-60 is expected to be 5.4 seconds. - Cadillac is also claiming an electric-only range of 37 miles. We also know that the CT6 won’t use the same batt…

Despite being introduced a year ago at the Shanghai Auto Show, Cadillac has been somewhat quiet on the CT6 PHEV for the U.S. But today, Cadillac has been spilling out some new information on their new hybrid sedan. First, we know now when the CT6 PHEV will go on sale and for how much. The model will go on sale next spring with a base price of $76,090 - includes a $995 destination charge. Cadillac says the PHEV will be offered as its own unique package within the CT6 lineup and feature an equipment list similar to the Premium trim. We have also learned how far the CT6 PHEV can travel on EV power alone - about 30 miles. The CT6 PHEV uses a turbocharged 2.0-lite…

We've seen the coming XT5 peak out from behind the curtain a few times recently, but today, Cadillac finally took the wraps off the 2017 Cadillac XT5 Crossover in Dubai, UAE. Chassis and Power Replacing the SRX in the lineup, the new XT5 rides on a new chassis unique to Cadillac. Using the lightweight technology first shown in the Cadillac CT6, the new XT5 is better packaged with more interior room without adding weight. Compared to the outgoing SRX, the XT5 drops 278 pounds, making it 100 pounds lighter than the Audi Q5 and 650 pounds lighter than the Mercedes-Benz GLE. The wheel base is up 2 inches and track is increased 1 inch over the SRX. Rear seat legroom ha…

The Cadillac XTS represents the last of an era of front-wheel drive based luxury sedans for the brand. You may think that it will not be too long before the XTS goes into the great parking lot in the sky. But that's where you be wrong as the brand is giving the XTS some big updates for 2018. The most noticeable change is the new face that makes the XTS look more like the CT6 - something we first learned about last month. There is a new front grille and headlights that have been moved up slightly. The rear comes with a new trunk and reshaped LED taillights. Inside, Cadillac has introduced the latest version of CUE which brings forth an all new user interface. …

We know that Cadillac is planning to shrink down the car lineup with the ATS, CTS, and XTS being replaced by the CT5 in 2019. But there are some other changes afoot for Cadillac's car lineup for 2019 according to GM's VIN Decoder document. The Truth About Cars reports that the ATS and ATS-V Coupe will be sticking around for the 2019 model year. Powertrains and the choice of rear- or all-wheel drive will carry over. It is unclear what transmissions will be offered. Meanwhile, the 2.0L turbo engine for the CT6 will be dropped. The 3.6L will now become the base engine. All models except the for CT6 Plug-In Hybrid will have AWD as standard equipment. Cadillac decli…

At an event tonight in Detroit, Cadillac delivered a one-two punch for those craving for a bit of performance with the introduction of the 2020 CT4-V and CT5-V. On paper, the two models aren't what we were expecting. Instead of the firebreathing monsters that were the ATS-V and CTS-V, the CT4 and CT5-V are more in line with middle children of German automakers - Audi S4, BMW M340i, and Mercedes-AMG C43 and E43. CT4-V To say we're a bit surprised that Cadillac is showing off the performance variant of their upcoming entry-level sedan would be an understatement - the reveal of the standard CT4 is expected to happen in a few weeks. Aimed at the likes of the Audi S3 and …

The Cadillac CT6 has been in the news a lot lately. First it was potentially canceled as its home factory in the U.S. is slated for closure. Then there was the Cadillac Blackwing V8. Most recently it has dropped both the base 2.0T 4-cylinder and the mid-range (now that there is a V8) 3.0 twin-turbo V6. With all of those changes, there is bound to be some price changes to accompany them. For 2020, the CT6 will see a base price rise of $8,500 over the 2019 model to $59,900. With that rise, the base engine becomes the 3.6 liter V6 and AWD standard. It is also adding about $3,500 worth of active safety equipment as standard. Moving up to the Premium Luxury …

Cadillac's XT5 is getting a refresh for 2020 that brings it into alignment with the looks of the rest of the brand like the recently introduced CT4 and CT5. The base trim for XT5 is the Luxury model. From there, Cadillac uses a "Y" strategy and splits the upper trims into Sport and Premium Luxury. Either can also be equipped with a Platinum package for the best technology and interior available in XT5. Premium Luxury puts an emphasis on brighter trims while the Sport takes a darker, more aggressive stance. Luxury and Premium Luxury are tuned more towards the soft side while Sport models get a more performance tuned chassis and quicker steering control. The Spo…

Just a day after the 2021 Suburban and Tahoe debuted the Cadillac Escalade has also leaked out online. As expected, the side profile still looks like the Tahoe/Suburban, however it apparently does still sport the vertical tail lights of the current generation vehicle. Inside is a decidedly upgraded interior. The gauge cluster is dual screen and flows into the infotainment system. Like the Chevy twins, the column shifter is gone, in this case replaced by Cadillac's Precision Control Shift. A dial to control the infotainment system similar to that on the XT6 is visible as well. The Escalade will be powered by the same 6.2 liter V8 offered as an upgrade in the…

After months of rumors and spy photos, Cadillac finally spilled the beans on their new high-performance CT4 and CT5 Blackwing. These new models are planned to give German rivals a bruising when they start arriving at dealers later this summer. Here is what we know. CT4 Blackwing The smaller of the two Blackwing models starts with a twin-turbo 3.6L V6 engine with 472 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. To achieve this power, Cadillac upgraded the various internals with titanium connecting rods and a revised crankshaft. Cadillac News: A Replacement for Displacement - Cadillac to Adopt New Engine Numbering Scheme

The saying goes there is no replacement for displacement, but at Cadillac that is no longer the case when it comes to the trunk badges. Starting in 2020 on the XT6, Cadillac will drop the engine displacement badge from their vehicles. Instead, they will use a number that represents torque in newton-meters and rounded up to the next number that ends in 00 or 50. Turbo models will get a T, while V-series models will retain their V in place of the number. For the XT6, that means its 271 lb-ft of torque converts to 373 newton-meters and then gets rounded up to 400. Once the scheme rolls out to other models it could look like this: XT4 2.0T - 350T XT5/XT6 3.6 …

If there was one vehicle that was the talk during Monterey Car Week, it would have to be the Cadillac Escala concept. Unlike other concepts that Cadillac has shown during this time, various ideas will appear on future Cadillac models. "There's a lot of stuff that's being captured here. All of that won't necessarily find itself coming out in one car; it will be spread through the portfolio," said Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac's president to Automotive News. One of the key items that will be spread around is the Escala's design. Compared to Cadillac's sharp and angular design language, the design on Escala is a complete departure with curves and smooth edges. de Nys…

Inside, the Escalade Platinum gets Nappa semi-aniline leather in a choice of either beige or gray; suede microfiber headliner, heated and cooled seats for the front, eighteen-way power seats, and three screens for rear seat passengers (two seven-inch screens in the headrests, and a…

When Cadillac announced the pricing for the new ELR would start around $75,995 without any incentives added on, a lot people wondered how Cadillac was going move these off dealers. Well, the luxury brand has two different ways of tacking that. The first is for those who decide to purchase an ELR outright. If you happen to be an 'early' buyer, General Motors will throw in a 240-volt home fast charger with professional instillation free of charge. GM doesn't say how long this offer will last in the press release unfortunately. The second are for those who plan to lease. Cadillac is planning to offer a 39-month lease for $699 a month for the ELR. There are some caveats for…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 26, 2012 The Cadillac ATS was designed to compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, and of course the BMW 3-Series. Surprisingly, the new ATS appears to be cutting into the sales of another Cadillac, the CTS. Since the ATS was launched back in September, CTS sales have taken a nose dive. In October, CTS sales dropped 40% when compared to the same time last year. Edmunds.com data backs up this up with the ATS being cross-shopped with the CTS. Thankfully, the data from Edmunds also shows the ATS being cross-shopped with the 3-Series. Is GM panicking with news like this? Well no. Chase Hawkins,…

Stop me if you have heard this before; Cadillac President Steve Carlisle is vowing to reboot the brand with six new models beginning with the XT4 crossover and a new advertising campaign that will replace the boring 'Dare Greatly" tagline. “We lost our mojo for a long period of time. One of the most controversial moves during Johan de Nysschen's tenure as Cadillac President was moving the brand's headquarters from Detroit to New York in 2015. Executives at GM explained at the time this would Cadillac to separate from the day-to-day operations of their mainstream brands - Buick, Chevrolet, and GMC. Sources at the time said another reason for the move came down to various GM executive worrying about Cadillac's worldview from Detroit "was too myopic for a brand with global aspirations." But Cadillac will be moving out of their space at 330 Hudson Street in New York City back to Detroit. This was revealed by Cadillac's new president Steve Carlisle in…

It has been awhile since we have heard anything on Cadillac's powertrain plans. But CEO Johan de Nysschen was in a talkative mood about it and Car and Driver was there to catch it. First is a V8 coming the CT6. The V8 will be a 4.2L and feature twin-turbos. This engine isn't based on GM's small-block architecture. The 4.2L displacement is interesting as competitors - mostly Germans - only go up to 4.0L to avoid Chinese taxes on high-displacement engines. Cadillac doesn't expect to sell many CT6s equipped with V8 in China, focusing more on the Plug-In Hybrid version for the market. Power is expected to be “in the upper 400s,” de Nysschen said. Cadillac has dropped the 2.0T from the CT6 after only a partial year in production. The new base engine is now the 3.6. Also gone is rear wheel drive as all V6 and V8 models of CT6 are built as all-wheel drive. This move raises the base price of the CT6 from $51,490 to $56,490 for the CT6 Luxury with 335 horsepower 3.6 liter V6 and all-wheel drive. The 2.0L Turbo (LSY) was a replacement for the older 2.0T (LTG) that originally debuted with the CT6. It produced 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque and was rated for 24 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. The option has already been removed from Cadillac's website. View full article

Cadillac's CT6 lineup in the U.S. will be seeing the departure of one its powertrains for 2019. GM Authority is reporting that Cadillac will be canning plug-in hybrid variant for the U.S. "Cadillac remains committed to electrified systems for our vehicles. Although production of the CT6 PLUG-IN for North America is discontinuing for the 2019 model year, alternative fuel vehicles remain a part of our future product portfolio as we move deeper in to our 10-year plan. GM has committed to 20 electric vehicles by 2023, some of which will be Cadillacs," a spokesman told the outlet. This is likely a recent decision, considering the model was listed in GM's VIN decoder …

If you were hoping that Cadillac would sprinkle some of the design from the Elmiraj concept for the upcoming CT6 flagship, prepare to be disappointed. GM's vice-president of global design, Ed Welburn, tells Automotive News that the CT6 will not be influenced by the Elmiraj. Instead the CT6 will stick with the art and science design theme found on current Cadillacs. “I think Elmiraj was more of an influence on some other things we’re working on for Cadillac,” said Welburn. “It’ll be different and it will certainly stand out in the portfolio. But you won’t see a real shift in direction.” We'll see if there is a real shift when the CT6 debuts next year at the New York Auto…

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has become an auto show of sorts in the past few years with luxury automakers showing off concepts and new models. Cadillac has used the event to show off various concepts such as the Ciel and Elmiraj. Last night, they revealed the Escala concept. “Escala is a concept with two clear objectives. First, Escala is a statement of intent for the next iteration of the Cadillac design language, and also technical concepts in development for future Cadillac models. Secondly, Escala builds Cadillac’s aspirational character, signaling the brand’s return to the pinnacle of premium,” said Johan de Nysschen, president of Cadillac. Escala (S…

The Cadillac Escalade is an anomaly for the brand. The model represents everything that Cadillac would like to leave behind, Shares the platform that Chevrolet and GMC use for their full-size SUVs Too Much Bling Nimble Performance is non-existant Hasn't sold in any real volume in other countries But the Escalade is the model that commands top dollar and brings in buyers who tend to go for German and Japanese luxury brands. Back in December, we reported that the Cadillac ATS sedan would be no more for the 2019 model year via a General Motors VIN Decoder document. Only the coupe would stick around. Cadillac declined to comment at the time. Yesterday, new evidence to the sedan's departure came to light via GM's fleet order guide. The Truth About Cars tried to get a comment from Cadillac about this new information, but wasn't able to. That changed this morning. “This year will bring forth significant changes to our product portfolio, most notably with the introduction of the all-new XT4 SUV as well as concluding the successful lifecycle of the ATS Sedan in North America. The…

Cadillac President Steve Carlisle said that when Cadillac starts rolling out its electric vehicles, it will use actual words for model names instead of the alphanumeric scheme currently used on its cars and SUVs. Cadillac's move away from names started in 2003 with the Cadillac CTS. Over time, the Seville and Deville were converted to STS and DTS respectively. Later, the scheme was changed to alphanumeric when Johan de Nysschen joined the company as President. Cadillac will be taking the lead on GM's push to introduce 20 new all-electric vehicles around the globe by 2023. Carlisle said that by 2030, the majority, if not all, Cadillacs will be battery electric vehic…

Despite rave reviews, the Cadillac CTS has been slipping in sales. Sales in July slipped 29 percent, while August saw another 35 percent drop. This is a the opposite of what is happening in the luxury marketplace as sales are currently up six percent. A possible cause to this is the base price of the CTS has climbed $6,000 from the previous model. “While it may have been a terrific car, it may not have been perceived as having earned its stripes for that kind of pricing against the Germans. Cadillac has just not earned its way to charge the kind of premium that the Germans can get,” said Michelle Krebs, senior analyst with Autotrader.com. Uwe Ellinghaus, Cadillac's chie…
