Well I shouldn't have to continue to sell my stuff through Craigslist to keep some dough in my back pocket: I start at Guitar Center next week. I tried for a few parts houses and there and that's who wound up calling me back. Fine by me. At least I know this is one job I can do without a shadow of a doubt.

Not sure how you all spent your Saturday, but...I spent it trying to stop a friend from killing himself. Earlier this week, his wife asked him for a divorce. That was followed a day later by a half-hearted attempt on his own life. He has a large workshop/garage as part of his automotive business, could probably put 15 cars in there. He drove a modern car in there, turned it on and sat there for 4 hours. If anyone knew that modern cars run too clean to kill anyone it would be him, but he did it anyway. Basically he did it to get his wife to talk to him. The next day, Thursday afternoon, he made a post on Facebook describing everything that had happened so far that week. …

Whew, so stuff is finally slowing down a bit... Finals are over, I'm out of school, and finally a bit relaxed. So let's see.. Here's where I've been. I don't know where to start actually. I've been trying to take care of my grandma once in awhile so she has someone there since my grandpa's gone now. My cousin was supposed to move in with her, but I don't know what's going on with that because he's been a douchebag lately. I met a girl about a month and a half, Ashley. She was my cousin's girlfriend's sister, and after seeing her a couple times we started dating and have been going very strong since. Honestly, I've never felt this way for a girl... it's absolutely insa…

he'll pass his late 90's (maybe 2000?) camry on to his daughter, and have a ~96? cavalier (manual) to get rid of/trade. he's pretty fixed on a mustang convertible and the GT is a little out of his price range. he's looked at an eclipse, no, a little small. it will be his wife's car during the week, she's a teacher. he's near 50, mid life crises? ...he bought a low miles, 4 year old, triumph last year. the kappa's are to small for him, and he wants a convertible. he'd prefer a car from a dealer lot (read comes with some warranty) any good ideas for other vehicles he should look at? any good reasons why he shouldn't buy a mustang? thanks. if nothin…

Well this is a couple days old, but I didn't see it posted here.... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060221/ap_en_...c_guns_n__roses Axl Rose ended his hermit-like lifestyle by venturing out to a Korn tour launch party in Los Angeles and to trendy nightclubs for some post-birthday bashes (his 44th) in Manhattan. Asked at the Korn bash about "Chinese Democracy," which has been in the making for a decade, Rose told Rolling Stone.com that "people will hear music this year." The tracks leaked Wednesday take a different direction from Rose's traditional raunchy Sunset Strip-style rock. "Better" has emo/industrial touches mixed with Rose's trademark vocals and hard rock backdro…

Slow right now at my work and slow on the forum so I figured I start something fun similar to what we did last year. Rules: 1. You have to pick TWO car manufacturers: ONE is your favorite, the one you will most likely buy a vehicle from and the SECOND is your least favorite, one that you are least likely to buy from. 2. Pick TWO vehicles from EACH car manufacturer: daily driver and fun/weekend/utility car or truck. Please be honest in your choices to make it harder and more fun.

GM Fast Lane Blog Cool StuffWhat Does Your Car Color Say About You? By Amy DeLong Training/Communications Coordinator So, maybe Kermit the Frog was right when he sang, "it’s not easy being green." According to DuPont Automotive rankings of the most popular automotive colors in North America, green ranks below 4 percent. As I look through the other findings, it appears things aren’t any better for green across the entire globe. Whether bright lime or more traditional pine, this color comes up, well, green with envy toward almost all other colors offered. For eight years, silver has claimed the No. 1 spot in the popularity studies followed by white and black and recent…

Someone around here must be more "into" pop culture than me and maybe can provide me with some help... I have noticed especially with track/wind breaker style jackets and even in fashion in general it seems alot of people are either wearing "older" clothes like from Good Will or buying new "old" style clothing. Can someone shed some light on this? Is wearing "old" clothing coming back? I have seen stuff being worn by lots of younger people lately and it was stuff that was out in many cases only about 10 years ago, and in some more like 20 or even 30. Is this a new trend around the country, or is it something going on just around me? I have really noticed it the past few m…

clicky Never thought I'd entertain reentering the world of truck ownership again (much less go through with it), but this truck really does something for me. The color helps a lot, and the short, squat look of the regular cab shortbed means it shouldn't be too much of a bear to live with. With the 4.8L it should get decent mileage.

I had to be somewhat cheap when I was in grad school. I think that spilled over into my post school life. I would say conservative. Look for coupons and good sales. Not into toys (electronic type stuff) very much. The reason I am hanging on to my car isn't so much the money, but an upcoming transition that I don't want a new car in the midst of. Where I do spend money is on travel. But that's once a year and then the filler short-haul trips in between.

one shortcoming ive always disliked about the Nova is the lack of a third pedal.... i REALLY would love to row my own gears, ive been considering a Manual conversion. Ive considered 4 and 5 speeds, but i think go Big or go Home... T56 all the way! Right now i got a TH350, for those who dont know trannys, its a 3 speed auto, not the greatest for gas mileage, but its decently strong but mine is on its way out. its starting to slip pretty bad in first, so here are my options. If i stick with an Auto, im not keeping a 3 speed. im looking at a 200 4-R out of a G Body for the Overdrive, as its a very simple swap. I would have it built to handle alot more power then im putttin…

Ok get this I drove my new truck over to get my gf and her mom wanted to see it. So then her ignorant sister that I can't stand comes out and looks at it. Well then my gf tells me later she said my truck is ugly and that she is gonna use her truck and pull me around with it!!! What makes this even more funny is she has a TOYOTA Carolla and her truck is a 2005 Ford F-150. Makes sense it would be someone that drives a TOYOTA to run their mouth. By the way her Toyota was sideswiped in a hit in run in front of her house and was very close to being totalled. I told my gf she should have had me put my truck in 4 Wheel drive and run over top of it and finish it off the ugly piec…

How much do you think we could get out of the Sunfire? To refresh your memories, it's a dark blue 2002 GT with the Twincam and a 5spd. It includes a sunroof, power locks, and the 400 watt Monsoon sound system. It has just over 100k miles at the moment, up from 84k when we bought it. As you may have heard me bitch about, it's reliability is a fluke, as with most J-bodies I've personally experienced. Between the ignition system, catalytic converter, backfiring, slight smoking, chugging oil, random noises, and it literally falling apart in places, it's a complete POS. Other than a few random blemishes, it looks excellent however, and most of the problems it has, can't be …

I currently only have two, which means Jimi Hendrix Smash Hits is getting boring in the brown '78 Coupe DeVille and Led Zeppelin III is getting overplayed in the yellow '77. Do any of you guys have any you'd be willing to part with? If so, let me know!

Forbes Times are so difficult for the auto industry that even Toyota and Honda have now experienced the kinds of double-digit sales dips that have been plaguing American auto giants General Motors and Ford all year. Sales for the entire industry were down 26.6% collectively in September as consumers grew skittish about making big-ticket purchases. In good economic times and bad alike, however, there are some vehicles that American consumers seem to abhor outright. And they're not just the big, gas-guzzling SUVs that are currently out of favor. It turns out, the cars American consumers hate the most come in many different shapes and sizes, and they're disliked for a w…

Well I finally decided to get myself a new pair of shoes. The cheap ones from, I think Target that were bought for me as a gift barely lasted a year. I've never owned a pair of shoes where the bottom of the shoe wore down to the point where a hold developed on one shoe. I could feel the damn ground under me. Sucked real hard when it rained. Plus they have holes by the toes and the soul is starting to separate on the right shoe. One of the few nice things about Lawrence is that New Balance has a factory, and a factory outlet here. New Balance is IIRC the only major shoe company that manufactures any of its products in the states. Some of their low end stuff is made in Ch…

January 18, 2005 Regular or Premium: choosing the right fuel grade by Jim Kerr Deciding what grade of gasoline to use in your vehicle has been a question asked by many readers. Should I use regular, or is it worth spending more for the premium grade fuel? While premium grade fuel may contain a few more additives, most vehicles will operate fine on regular grades. There are some vehicles out there where premium fuel is specified by the manufacturer. What happens if regular fuel or gasohol is used in these vehicles? Premium fuels have a higher resistance to pinging or detonation in the engine's combustion chamber than regular fuels do. Higher compression ratios, hig…

That was hands down one of the coolest cars I ever had the pleasure of owning and driving. I had the car about 9 months or so and had a week off so I decided to take a road trip to Denver to see my cousin. It was one of the first big road trips I took by myself (stopped in Lubbock to stay with a friend) - and it was certainly very memorable. Last night while on my way to see a friend, I stopped off to fill up my Riv. After spending $40 to fill up from ABOVE a half tank, I proceeded north on Route 100 ( also known as Central Park Avenue) anyway about a mile up the road, I was cruising in the right lane at about 35MPH, it was dark out and raining, I had my wipers on. Suddenly, a dark blue '91 Accord pulls out of a parking lot, nearly takes the front of my Riv off, and pulls out into the road. He begins to gain some speed, at this point I had flashed him my high beams and was racing to catch up to him to curse him out. So yesterday was another ho-hum sunny, 75 degree day, then last night came and brought with it the evil storm clouds. I was at my girlfriend's house, which was right in the path of the strom, about two blocks away a tornado dropped, threw some loose stuff around, downed some power lines, ripped off some shingles from a few roofs, nothing too damaging, the worst damage was done by baseball (according to the weatherman it even got to be cell phone sized ) hail. We had nothing, no hail, just some rain and enough wind to throw up some loose grass and make my car really dirty. At least I thought that was the worst of it, I found out that really wasn't the worst. About fou…

My wife was cleaning out a linen closet today and had some plastic bags on the floor at the top of the stairs. I was walking by and didn't see the plastic bags. When I stepped on them I took off like a rocket. I went down 14 steps crashing into a wall on the next level, shattering a tooth. After 2 hours in oral surgery they had to cut part of my jaw bone out to get the rest of what was left of the tooth out. Lucky for me the tooth was towards the back, so it didn't spoil my naturally good looks. :AH-HA_wink: I will be getting an implant in 3 months to replace the tooth.

looking on the AutoTrader website I happened to come across a 2005 Cobalt SS SC lease takeover for only $234 per month. I was astonished as I didn't expect a car this nice for anything less than $350 per month, even when leased. I am not worried about the requirement for 91+ octane because I found out that instead of creating a price war by selling cheaper gas, some stations sell 90, 92 and 94 for the prices of 87, 89 and 91 respectively. My budget is pretty tight right now, so I will need a part-time job to pay for it. However, I do have quite a bit of free time. I have one simple question for you guys: Should I go for it?

Well we can argue over FWD/RWD, V8/V6. We can discuss wheel base or overall lenght. We can cry for more power, larger wheels and more elaborate interiors but what is the reality of the automobiles future? Yes, you guessed it, this is a oil price and availability drivin question. So what do we really need now that its going to cost 3 bucks for every 20-26 miles and talks that within a few years it will be 5 bucks. Is it time to bring back the big block V8 ? Body on frame, 225 inch long cars ? Most of us here are car freaks, so off course we want more, more, more but what is the reality ? For the first time in over a decade Im starting to wish I had the old VW diesel …

More pictures on the Audi RS6 Forum Things to be aware of: The car is an Audi RS6 Avant ABT, and was in pristine condition before the incident. The photos show the car exactly as it was after the crash (there was no cutting of moving of the vehicle done by the emergency response team). The driver called emergency services on his cellphone and got out unaided. The driver had only minor scratches, and after a couple of hours in hospital, came out with only a bandage on his little finger. And for the understatement of the day, "The police believe that excessive speed was a contributory factor in the accident".

Okay, after that great run of special DG threads from other posters- thanks btw!!- I'm revisiting the series I started based around cylinder count. Some of the greatest sports coupes ever built were powered by 6 cylinder engines of some sort, so I expect great things here!! Rules- 1) Obviously- IT MUST HAVE A 6 CYLINDER ENGINE. NO HYBRIDS. 2) Maximum of 5 choices. 3) These are your only vehicles. 4) Production vehicles only. 5) Any era and market is allowed. 6) This is a new one- IF YOU WISH TO DO A SEPARATE POST WITH 5 MORE CARS TO ROUND OUT A TOP 10, YOU ARE WELCOME TO DO SO, SO LONG AS THE FIRST IS YOUR TOP 5. I know some here really …

I know life "gets in the way" ... I'm not sure I could even make the entire trek ... but if I and a few others set up plans for a leisurely cruising tour of RT 66 from Chicagoland to California, are you interested in participating for all or part of the festivities? This would take place in the September/October 2009 timeframe. I know that is the fall with school and other activities back in session, but this timeframe is ideal in terms of "cooler" temps...we wouldn't be dealing with sweltering heat in the southern states.... And, we wouldn't be at the "peak" of the summer driving/vacation season.... We'd start in Chicagoland, with a Saturday gathering in the Elgin …

It's amazing the variety of aftermarket wheels these days. Amazing how it affects the look of a car or truck. What are some of your favorites? Surprisingly I'm liking the black ones with silver or red rim. I also like the spidery type as well. I'm seeing this type more and more lately. They look great on big trucks.

Well... I can't figure out what bulb is behind that plastic and I can't figure how the hell I get to it to replace the damn thing. Looks to me like I have to remove the front bumper and maybe even the quarter panels. Help is appreciated because I really don't want to do all that... :D

"The oil change may be about to endure a change of its own. A big motor-oil maker plans to announce Thursday that it has achieved a breakthrough in engine-lubrication design that makes it easy to change the oil in a vehicle in as little as 90 seconds, Castrol, a division of BP, says the modification over current designs also lowers carbon emissions and fosters recycling. The new system, which Castrol has dubbed Nexcel, must be integrated into vehicle engines at the design stage. That means it won't hit mainstream cars for another five years — about the length of time between major model changes for many automakers. Castrol said it's in discussions with…

This guy comes into our dealership today to look at the Silverado 2500 that we have in the 2nd floor showroom, he's ben in before. His daily driver is a 2006 Aveo-5, stick and he's always bragging about getting about 37mpg real world... the thing is he always leaves it idiling for long periods of time while he looks at trucks, get a brochure from the showroom or whatever. Today he was in the showroom for a good 18-20 minutes while his little Aveo was left, door ajar... running with the AC full blast & the radiator fan kicking in and out constantly. Kind of funny if you ask me. Like the chian smoking Prius driver that I always see blowing nasty …

My boss has had 2 Escape 4WDs as his demos this winter, first a black Hybrid, and now an XLT V6. The few times I've gotten to drive them, I've been impressed with the solid, quiet ride on dry pavement. I asked him how the 4WD did for him in the snow, and he said he was unimpressed, said neither one felt like it was really pulling much with the rear wheels, even in deep snow where it surely would have been necessary. He said it was not like a pickup truck, where you shift it into 4WD and you can feel it work. Kind of disappointed me to hear him say that. I wonder if GM's AWD Equinox/Terrain system is similar to the Escape's in operation and in low-traction conditions …

... has the company built since Day 1?? Googled the question, saw one estimate of 500 million. Don't know if that source was GM or if GM even has an accurate count. Overseas markets and the confusion of partial brand ownership, etc in the latter half of the Company's history may make a comprehensive tally a challenge. All the years from the Sloan book referenced below are CALENDAR year sales. These numbers are less common than model year, and it makes the transition to those more readily-obtainable numbers inaccurate for that switch-over. 1909 : 32,311 (fiscal year ending 09.30.09 plus 3 months ending 12.31.09) ~ My Years with General Motors, Alfred P Sloan…

Aside from sitting on C&G what are your hobbies? I have 2 main hobbies... Winter Hobby, snowmobiling. Used to do more ice drag racing but backed away from that to put some cash toward hobby #2 ('68 Camaro PT build). Here was my Pro-Stock 1000 that I built a couple years back. 1000cc 3 cyl 255hp. Ran 1/8 mile (660 feet) on ice in 5.5 at 122 mph. Not the fastest but respectable at the time. Trail sled '07 Polaris 700. Adding some NOS to it for this coming season. The kit is currently on the bench. 140 hp stock, 150 with pipe and mild upgrades. NOS will be an added 30-40hp shot. video Hobby #2... '68 Camaro Pro-Touring project. Stil…

$22.95 rented Monte Carlo? Check. $39.95 Travelodge at San Francisco's airport motel strip? (Not a mistake, either). Check. Super Bowl that day? Meh. It can be taped and I don't care about Chicago or Indianapolis. Wouldn't have missed this for the world. It was worth the schlep down to SF and back to see this. This is truly the grand dame of the sea. 1. People waiting on the ocean side of the Golden Gate 2. You could catch her outline in the distance prior to this but, at last, she comes into view. Look at all the boats and helicopters circling her. 3. Made a run to the bay side of the Golden Gate to watch her pass underneath. She's big. 4. Wow! Abo…

N.E.D. opened up today, and surprisingly the weather was beautiful...until about 3:00, LOL I got 7 runs in, as did Silvester (Pretty sure he got 7...) Track conditions sucked, everyone was sliding all over the place (myself included), but I managed a 14.097 @ 100.67 with a .654 r/t and a 2.174 60 foot time..... thats out of a 96 Cobra with 103,000 miles, a steeda shifter and Bassani x pipe with flowmasters...... not too bad, i dont think Silvester was....well....a few seconds slower, but we both had a great time up there. Went up with another friend who raced his 05 GT. Here are the videos I got http://media.putfile.com/NED401-003 <- friends 05 GT http://media.pu…

SEATTLE - Officially, it’s the South Lake Union Streetcar. But in the neighborhood where the new line runs, it’s called the South Lake Union Trolley — or, the S.L.U.T. At Kapow! Coffee, a shop in the old Cascade neighborhood, 100 T-shirts bearing the words “Ride the S.L.U.T.” sold out in days, and another 100 are on order. “We’re welcoming the S.L.U.T. into the neighborhood,” said Jerry Johnson, 29, a part-time barista. Some claim — incorrectly, according to representatives of Vulcan Inc., the company that is developing the area — that South Lake Union Trolley was the original name and that it was changed when officials belatedly realized the acronym. The $50.5 millio…

As I was reading about the death of the Park Ave, it got me to wonder what to do with my beater. Its been a good car. The engine and trans run strong (really shows on its good days) It just seems to have fuel issues. It has no pickup, idles quite rough, pretty bad milage(which could be fixed) Parts looking to be replaced: Fuel leak-tiny-right between back tires. Looks like a gas tank replacement.... As above, looks like a new EGR.... And a new hose connect to the rad...... She's rusty, but not too bad (bottom of doors, rocker panels, bottom of hatch) 13 midwesterm winters will do that to a car... If I do it, I can get help to cut the labor costs dow…

Incredibly Stupid Designs of the Mundane What designs of every day things to you encounter that just make you stop and seriously contemplate looking up the designer so you can give that person a good slap across the face while shouting "What were you thinking?!?" I'll give the example I encountered to as a starting off point. As many of you know, my partner and I share his 2004 Honda CRV. Today I was doing an oil change. The oil filter is located at the rear bottom part of the engine block. In order to access it you must reach around the CV boot. When you pull the filter off, the remaining oil that is still in the block drains out through the filter hole directly onto …
