Buick
Founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, Buick is one of America’s oldest automobile brands and the oldest active division of General Motors (GM). Known for pioneering innovations like the overhead valve engine, Buick became a symbol of affordable luxury throughout the 20th century. It played a key role in GM’s growth and today positions itself between Chevrolet and Cadillac, offering premium vehicles in both the U.S. and China—its largest market.

DETROIT — General Motors Co. said Tuesday the rollout of its new 2010 Buick LaCrosse is being delayed for a few weeks due to quality concerns. Speaking to analysts and reporters during a conference call on August sales, GM's vice president of U.S. sales Mark LaNeve said about 300 to 400 of the cars were shipped in August, but further deliveries are on hold until the company works out what it called "quality issues." The company wouldn't offer specifics on exact problems with the LaCrosse, but LaNeve said they "were not serious but were enough to delay us three or four weeks while we made sure they were fixed so that our customers didn't have any problems." For the c…

GM Expects 40% Conquest Rate with Enclave When the 2008 Buick Enclave goes on sale next year, General Motors Corp. expects up to 40% of the new SUV's customers to come from other automakers, Steve Shannon, Buick's general manager, said Thursday. GM has not revealed pricing for the midsize model, which uses a car-like structure to provide better fuel economy, more room and more comfort than traditional SUVs like the Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, the Enclave's targets, the upscale -- but smaller -- Acura MDX and Lexus RX350, have base prices of $39,995 and $37,400, respectively. Detroit Free Press

GM will end production of Buick Rainier Division down to handful of models February 7, 2007 Detroit Press BY GREG BENSINGER BLOOMBERG NEWS General Motors Corp. will end production of the Buick Rainier SUV in the second quarter to trim the division's product line and spend more to develop and sell its remaining models. The Rainier represents about 2.5% of the daily output at GM's Moraine, Ohio, plant, the only place it's made, spokesman Tom Wickham said Tuesday. It isn't clear yet what effect the change might have on employment, he said. Advertisement GM CEO Rick Wagoner is paring Buick to three or four models, about half as many as in 2005. I stumbled across the website earlier today. I found it encouraging that the Enclave was on display at the autoshow. It's one step closer to Buick-China & Buick-US consolidating line-ups. http://autoshow.shanghaigm.com/ Click on one of the three pics (center-left) to activate the interactive autoshow floor and browse through the cars that were on display. I'm looking forward to 2007's show. I hope to see Holden and possibly the spy-pic'd Buick Royaum replacement return to China.

Link above...according to Motor Trend, Buick bosses with top dog GM execs say that a wheelbase stretch and extra doors could hold key to production green light. Everyone at GM is looking how to make viable business cases for it to happen. I say...THIS is what Buick needs to get American asses into a Buick. I say...when and if a 4 door Buick Avista coupe happens, then there wont be a need for Buick to try to CONVINCE Americans that this aint your father's Buick...the car itself will prove it...VISUALLY...and THA…

Of course nothing this good would happen but I did enjoy some of the chops found on this site, in particular the boat tail Velite they chopped. If they made a vehicle that looked like that for Buick it'd put the Corvette to shame (so obviously they won't do it)... but that would be one beautiful vehicle. Here is the link: http://www.gminsidenews.com/naias/revitalization/ I found out about it via an Edmunds article that is roughly 2 weeks old but I did not notice anything on here about it and thought I'd share. It's cute how the article points out their severe bias in their "What this means to you" section which exclaims: "At least somebody is still excited about Buick.…

I owned Buick's all my life. Always traded them in for new models every two or three years. Recently I moved on to something else when they did away with the LeSabre. Went to the Buick garage last week to have "Auto Butler" applied to my present car TCH and the service person took me to work in a new Lacrosse. I was shocked trying to enter the car. I practically knocked my head off on the roof because it was so extremely low. If this is what Buick classifies as their big car then I shall never own another Buick. Getting out was just as hard without knocking off the top of my head. Rise the roof level so people can enter and exit the car without a headache!

It talks about its awakening in 1975 (M.Y., anyway) from its slumber (temporary departure) back in 1962. It's a good read and talks about key milestones, including the 1995 intake manifold which usually lasted about 60,000 miles (according to the article) and how the engine could go the long haul if the intake manifold was changed to the after-market reconfigured one to eliminate coolant seepage into places it shouldn't have been going. (Lots of Series II 3800s around and lots of ~'98 Intrigues/Regals/Grand Prixs cruising effortlessly on the freeway, which tells me they probably have the newer manifolds.) Revisiting the past to debut the future, GM's current head of design, Ed Welburn, gives us a tour of Buick's history – discussing the first ever concept car and some of the key design elements over the last century. Buick here in America is a brand of declining sales, lackluster product (excluding Enclave) and an aging customer base. Buick China: A thriving, growing brand with a wide audience and successful, competent product. Many have legitimately complained about the lack of such support and backing in the form excellent product being offered here in the USA. This is all about to change. Enclave is the start of great things for the Buick brand. GM hasn’t given up; Buick is a very important part of the new GM going forward. This key fob excellently demonstrates what GM intends to take Buick; this type of elegance and luxury will become the norm at Buick as it moves upmarket. …

2012 Buick Verano Starts at $23,470 New addition to portfolio expected to attract new customers to luxury brand 2011-09-06 - DETROIT – The all-new 2012 Buick Verano luxury sedan, which goes on sale later this year, will have a starting price of $23,470 including $885 in destination charges. The Verano offers more passenger and cargo volume than the Acura TSX sedan or Lexus IS 250. “Verano is a great new addition to Buick because it expands the brand’s reach,” said Tony DiSalle, U.S. vice president of Buick Marketing. “With Verano, we’re inviting new customers into the Buick family, giving us the opportunity and privilege of building longtime Buick loyalty.”…

I like the Regal, and I would even add the Wagon to Buick. But to me it doesn't have the Fine details Lacrosse and Enclave have. The Regal design has much more in common with Saturns. I also think GME has there own thing going on. While Buick is central to GMAP. I am a huge fan of The Lacrosse design. And the 2 main designers Justin Thompson, and Richard Duff are with GMAP now. Duff With Patac, and Thompson back at Holden. And Gmap has done some really nice Buick concepts. The IMO Gorgeous Riv concept GMAP also has Both RWD/AWD and FWD/AWD platforms to build on. Either with an on demand AWD option would work. Where do you think would produce a Better, m…

The Relentless Pursuit of Lexus We once had one of those bosses who would, for the smallest oversight or infraction, growl, stiff-spined and red-faced, "No, no, no, [expletive deleted] no!" Pretty much all of you responded the same way after discovering our test-track results for the 2010 Buick LaCrosse CXL with its direct-injection 3.0-liter V6. Come on, guys, you've got it all wrong. A 2-ton Buick powered by a 255-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 that gets to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds (8.1 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like at a drag strip) is not a car that General Motors needs to make apologies for. But OK, you're in full denial mode about the 2010 Buick LaCrosse. We've giv…

I happen to like the LaCrosse, but sales are down the past couple of months. It also gets some unfair criticism in the media, called bland by some. Bland=Camry. Anyway, what changes could be made before the '07 models start rolling out? More chrome? Portholes? I saw a picture somewhere of a LaCrosse with portholes (ebay I think) and it looked cool. My dealer told me some dealerships are putting the portholes on.

I thought this was interesting. The Truth About Cars reviewed the Lucerne at http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/?p=1646. Someone from a site called Friends Of Buick questioned parts of the review in the comments section below it and wrote pages on the Lucerne and its quality, ride and handling. Long but worth a read. Does anybody here own a Lucerne? It is the first Buick I have thought about buying in some time and I would like to hear what the owners think of it.

On the Buick website, the vehicles listed are....Enclave, LaCrosse, Lucerne, Invicta....not in future vehicles, but the concept does pull up. Think we'll get a surprise and it will be called Invicta after all? Hopefully...the ridiculous, meaningless LaCrosse name should die a quick death, just like the W body. Also, if Invicta is to eventually replace Lucerne, they're going to need something better than LaCrosse. I don't know one import buyer that would EVER consider a "LaCrosse". It will be hard enough to get any young, successful professional to consider a Buick, period. Here's hoping for the best.....

The website leftlane news.com is reporting that GM's application to use the name "Invicta" on a new Buick model is "dead" as of March 21, 2006. As they explained it, "Sometimes, automakers scrap applications entirely. Other times it cannot obtain the rights to the name . . . Just recently, there were rumors that the new Zeta-platform-based Buick sedan would be called the 'Invicta.' However, GM’s outspoken Bob Lutz said the car would be called the 'Statesman.' Looks like Mr. Lutz was right."

Found an open Verano today on a Buick lot. Again, blown away at how nice it is inside. Really still love the Regal more, but the Verano is 92% the size and such, just a little more different and tidy...... not as pricey..... I wonder how much the Verano launch is eating up Regals. I know Buick is trying to move Regal up the ladder with more kit and better powertrains, but the cars side by side are damn near the same size, and the Regal is not too much bigger inside either. I know the old size is everything adage is dying in this market some, but at under 25g, a base Verano is damn nice, why spend 30 on a Regal?

I have been looking for a replacement for my 1999 Park Avenue Ultra (the flagship of its day) and according to my local dealer, the Enclave is now considered the flagship for Buick. I really really like the Enclave, but why is a large Lambda crossover considered a flagship? More importantly, why can't Buick get a car that can properly compete with that NEW 2011 Chrysler 300 (or should that be a flagship Cadillac too?)? Indeed, why can't Buick and/or Cadillac get an upgraded version of the Hyundai Genesis as a flagship? Any thoughts? FWD crossovers do NOT a flagship make, IMHO.

Here is a very quickie to show that the Chinese Regal can be easily modified to become a more NA version. The existing hip line can be used to form the sweep spear, making the change doors only. I chose to kick it up a bit, requiring the rear quarter to modify. We certainly could use this wagon here to fill a void. I also like the idea of naming it Invicta over here. 2008 Buick Park Avenue Might Come Stateside! Reaction to the Chinese Park Avenue has made GM reconsider bringing the Park Avenue over to the US. The original plan was to do a full reskin on the car a la Enclave, however GM is now planning to bring the Chinese Park Avenue to America as early as Spring of next year. Built in Australia, their will be a decontented base model starting at around $40k, excluding the luxury features of the top end model. The ultra-luxury model will be offered, with all the features of the Park Avenue sold in China. Finally, GM will have a true luxury car, and suprisingly, it will come from Buick. Buick is going a different route with their showing at the LA Auto Show next week. Instead of going all out with a swoopy, futuristic design that can run on unicorn farts, they're showing a plush version of the Buick LaCrosse, called the LaCrosse GL. On the outside, Buick has dressed the GL in a luscious red complimented by brushed and tinted chrome on the grill, door handles, and rear deck. The satin-finished twenty-inch wheels borrowed from the Regal GS finish the exterior. Inside, Buick fitted French-stitched leather in contrasting dark cocoa brown and caramel chocochino for the doors, dash, and seats. The headliner is finished in a chocochino suede while the dash, s…

Sajeev Mehta has written a review of the Buick LaCrosse CXL for the truthabout cars.com. To read the review, click here. It is not a positive piece, declaring the vehicle a "rental car" that is bested by Hyundai. EDIT AFTERTHOUGHT: Now that I've read it over several times, I find the review insulting and amateurish. They can think the LaCrosse is a good or bad car, that's their opinion. I'm saying the writing style is nasty and less than professional. I presume that the author is not a professional journalist.

Being the member with the moniker 'regal guy' and being that the Lacrosse was/is its replacement, I thought it only natural that I test the car that dealt the death blow to one of my favorite autos. On Saturday I had the oppurtunity to test drive a Charcoal colored Lacrosse CXL. Let me start by saying that I did not like the look of the lacrosse intially, but the fish-eyed look has softened on me a little since then. This Lacrosse CXL was a program car and it had less than 18,000 miles on it. This car actually looked good from ever angle I stared. It had these very nice chrome buick rims and all the chrome accents offered by GM. After the walkaround the salesman gav…

Try to forget the awful commercials for the 2010 Buick LaCrosse for a moment. As ill-conceived as those pathetic attempts to make Buick look cool may have been, the car doesn't really need that much help. It's not the best-looking sedan Buick has ever made, but it's not ugly either and it has some good hardware under the skin. …

A while back someone asked where to find a LaCrosse with portholes. I found one on-line...it is a silver LaCrosse under pre-owned. It looks great and I think all LaCrosses should have them. http://tmbuick.tonymarch.com/

I've been looking at some new and used, and I was wondering if the factory XM setup can be added. Would a radio swap be needed? Or would I be screwed? I've had XM for a while now and couldn't possibly live without it, and I don't want a seperate unit like I do now.

http://www.arifleet.com/Production2007/production1109.pdf So is this dropped in lieu for the new Super? They should've dumped the bottom-feeder, Chevy-like CX and CXL trim levels, and renamed the CXS Reserve as so long-rumored. Give it velour or leather, bench or bucket seats and a much-higher power (the CTS' 258hp version) of the 3.6-liter DOHC High Feature V-6 engine.

I got the chance to compare LaCrosses at the ASIM in Pomona on Sunday and came away pleasantly surprised with the car. First, I drove the CXL (3800, base suspension) and while it was a bit floaty, it was not NEAR as bad as I thought it would be. I'd compare it to a base Camry or Avalon. The engine, however, was pretty bad. I'm no pushrod fan, but I don't ever remember the 3800 being this sluggish and unresponsive. I had to floor the gas throughout the course to get any response from the engine or tranny. Overall, however, not bad for a base car. Next was the CXS and while it didn't feel that much firmer than the base car, it lacked the float and rol…

Is the Lambda platform flexible enough for GM to develop a sedan off of this vehicle? Hopefully a Buick sedan that would give this division something unique from the other GM divisions. Possibly a car above the Lucerne would be really nice.

Someone recently wrote concerning glass in the Lucerne. My 2006 Lucerne CXL has laminated glass in the front windshield and the (4) four side windows. The back seat side non moveable windows and the rear glass are tempered. I checked the glass to make sure before commenting.

Like many of us, Todd Lassa in Motor Trend is asking what Buick should call its new car. And, like many of us, he thinks it should be Invicta. Read his opinion here.

As with the Grand Prix, it appears that production of the W Lacrosse has ended as of December 23rd without fanfare. On cursory glance I don't see any mention of this on the fan sites either. RIP. Looking forward to seeing the much improved/modern EpII version on the road soon... Production of the LaCrosse/Allure is set to end Dec. 23 as the result of the end of the car's production life. This was announced earlier in the year and will mean 400 fewer jobs in the plant. These jobs have already been taken care of through retirement incentives and buyouts, Mr. Lowe said. http://www.newsdurhamregion.com/news/business/article/116043

My parents went to the Buick dealership today because my mothers LeSabre is reaching about 50k and want to trade it in before the value starts decreasing more rapidly. With the end of the year models they are eligible for the GM employee discount and there were 2 cars that it came down to. When they went there they wanted another LeSabre, I told them to get the LaCrosse but my mother didn't seem like she wanted a smaller vehicle but when she came home today she was considering one. There was a brand new 2005 LeSabre with some decent options including leather seats and dual climate control but no Driver Information Center or compass and such. I wish I had more detail…

Has changing the name from Lesabre to Lucerne improved sales? And Lucerne also replaces Park Avenue. Ditto to Lacrosse replacing Century and Regal. Could we say that familiar nameplates require less money marketing the product? How about following the Taurus and change back to old beloved nameplates? Lacrosse replacement becomes Century. Lucerne (goofy French sounding name) becomes LeSabre.

I noticed that there are a good many unsold Lacrosses on the GM BuyPower website, just over 40 here in Florida. They are mostly vehicles with goofy equipment packages that raise the MSRP without making the car worthwhile. An example of this is a CXS without the Gold Convenience Package but with sunroof, MP3 player, stabilitrack, etc. I thought they cleared all these out with their employee pricing scheme. How do they think they'll sell this orphaned inventory?

Curious to know, what is the current future status of the Lucerne? I'll be honest I have never really been interested in one before but big incentives on them lately have led me to look into them and it seems like a good buy? Just want to know, is 2010 the last year, or 2011? The 3.9 is new for 2009. ANyone have any experience driving the Lucerne with this powertrain? Decent power? I knows its still the 4 speed........ Will the v8 be discontinued? I think I have seen a few SUpers still on the lots. RIght now with my status as a Pontiac owner, and with my GM card, i can get a new 09 holdover Lucerne CX for 19 and change, and compared with a Malibu, considering res…

Being new here I would like to know if anyone knows why no one ever finds a ming blue LeSabre or now the new Lucerne? My first choice was ming blue for my new Lucerne CXL but there was none anywhere.... I also have never seen this color in the LeSabre which I had previously. If this color is never used then why is it in the lineup? I think it makes a very regal looking automobile and especially would look great on the Lucerne. I did not want to wait to order one in the ming blue so got my second choice of Crimson Pearl... Just thought someone might have some statistics on this! Thanks!

I just purchased my Buick Lucerne 2006 CXL. It is the last in a long line of Buicks I have owned for the past 25 years. I can truly say it is not a Buick of the past but a Buick of the future. I could not be more pleased. This is truly a great American Automobile and the finest Buick has produced in my opinion. I am sure many older Buick owners like myself will not feel comfortable in this updated Buick image. However, I think it must be the wave of the future if Buick is to survive. This is truly a tremendous automobile. I have never driven a more quiet, comfortable automobile. Buick and Buick fans should be proud that Buick is finally back on the right track!

To say the car sells under 30,000 and two seconds later flash a "base price, 29,999" ? Who is running the show over there at GM publicity, promotion and advertising, they are morons, sent in undercover to undermine General Motors by the Asians and auto journalists ! Really ! Check out a Hyundia commercial or Toyota or Mazda or Nissan or even Ford and it doesnt look like a bunch of morons trying to sell you laundry soap because "look, see it comes out brighter and is on sale" THERES SOME SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH GM'S MARKETING DEPARTMENT FIRE THEM ALL !

Can anyone post some real world pics of the 2007 Lucerne so we can see the colors accurately? I was just on their website and unfortunately they are not true to life depictions. My local dealers don't have much other than white, black, and silver. LIke to see the sagemist metallic, Ming Blue, Dark Claret, and the sandstone(?) darker beige color. Also I didn't see this on the Buick site, but can the interior be had with anything other than the woodgrain trim?

I am wondering (I'm not an engineer) how hard would it be for GM to produce a Lucerne coupe? I think it would sell well and offer a sportier version of the Lucerne for those who don't want a sedan.

From seeing the inventory at a local Buick dealer I noticed that the base model has a chrome grille and the other 2 have shiny black grilles. This is ass backwards; the CXS, which has a chrome strip on the lower trunk edge, chrome exhausts, etc., is the one that should have the chrome grille, not the base model; what are these people thinking!

Wow! Wait'll you see this: a pimped out Buick Lucerne DUB Edition, as reported by edmunds.com. The vehicle will be shown in 16 major U.S. markets this year. Personally I like the exterior with the 22-inch chrome rims and other effects; I don't need a TV screen or DVD inside, though. What do you think?
