Well fly, I'm right on your heals. Woke up Saturday to my car alarm remote beaping at me. It was really windy when I woke up so I figured that the wind had just rocked the car enough to set the preshock on the alarm off, so I just got into the shower to get ready for work and ignored it. I got out of my apartment a little after 9 and when I got down to my car I did a quick walk around just to make sure. Sure enough, someone had backed into my Impala. Right on the corner of the back bumper on the drivers side. No note either. Not a huge smack I guess, but I'm going to need a new lower bumper cover and paint. It is getting a little wierd though. Since I got that ca…

I know we have some dealer-linked people here so maybe I can be helped out. My dad wants a 2013 Avalanche LTZ. We live in Canada, and therefore, the pricing is terrible. So we're looking cross-border to save ~20 grand. We've contacted some dealers already but none will play ball because we're Canadian. Even when we say that one of our Amerifriend's can do the purchase, the dealers still clam up. My dad has procrastinated on the purchase, stock is dwindling, and his list of preferences is fairly specific. I'm posting this to see if there's someone here who wants to make a sale. Or potentially help us arrange one. Do Want 4WD White Diamond tri-coat exterior Ebony …

We want to see the difference in price betwen Florida and NY. THe reason being we plan on moving to Fl at some point and are debating whether it would be more cost effective to wait to buy and Acadia in FL, vs. NY.

Well, I'm proud of myself. I happened by a used car dealership and wound up taking a very serious look at the car I covet, a Mini Cooper. This particular Cooper was an S with the stick, sunroof and the bonnet stripes that I absolutely hate. The very first thing I checked out was the back seat, and there is indeed enough room for a forward facing child seat, which is a good thing. Next was the driver's seat, specifically the driving position, which at first was terrible, I couldn't see anything but the visor when looking straigh ahead, but after adjusting the seat hight I got a good line of sight. Then came the drive, totally amazing, I had forgotten what its like to …

Last night I went out with our boy in his 2007 acura tl (little over 5500 miles). While in the car I was struck by how many things just don’t fit right, how it squeaks over bumps, and how it has issues. 1. When accelerating it makes a grinding sound. Something he is taking it in for. 2. The right rear quarter panel on the outside does not lineup with the bumper. Bad enough that he is going to make the dealer fix it. He has seen multiple other tls with the same problem so he is not sure they can line it up. 3. The dash is lumpy on the passenger’s side. 4. The upper part of center console is wavy where it meets the dash. It looks like it’s been left out in the su…

I am fearing our 3rd car, a Taurus wagon, has transaxle issues, as a filter/fluid change today did not remedy shifting issues it intermittently has. Trans has no adjustment capabilities; it was suggested that a cracked filter may suck air; old filter showed no signs (it's plastic, floating in a sea of liquid- how's it going to crack?)… but pan gasket was fairly weepy anyway. It's a '95, bought it cheap a year & a half ago (from a friend) with 70K on it, now has 86K. Not worth rebuilding the transaxle. Not worth it as a 'local only' car, either. Haven't yet determined a budget, but would like to get something with actual cargo space. I know that's not easy to …

I am not sure that they necessarily have to many brands as much as they have to many brands fighting for the same market. Perhaps GM needs to separate the brands more and going to the extreme as my mind often does I came up with the following to separate out the brands as best as they can be (albeit in a fantasy world): Chevrolet Core values: volume, affordability, practicality Core vehicles: FWD compact sedan/coupe, FWD midsize sedan/coupe, RWD volume large sedan Key competitors: Toyota, Honda, Ford...(other mainstream b…

The conversation is not strained. It ranges from annoying to sickening when you have NOTHING in common with the person and there is a general edginess about it (read "multi-level.") Legislation set for Senate debate Monday would require a reduction in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from power plants, refineries, factories and transportation. The goal is to cut heat-trapping pollution by two-thirds by midcentury. With gasoline at $4 per gallon and home heating and cooling costs soaring, it is getting harder to sell a bill that would transform the country's energy industries and — as critics will argue — cause energy prices to rise even more. Also, for behind-closed-doors Design Center photo hounds like me, the newest issue of Collectible Automobile has a fantastic spread on the '73-'77 Pontiac A-body cars, LeMans, GTO, Can Am and Grand Am. I'm going to have to go with the Mustang II. Yeah, this and the Pinto are some of the most successful lamentable American cars that just about everyone loves to bash. But, honestly, they deserve it. First year 'Stang IIs didn't have a V8 option and came standard with a four-cylinder engine that made an oh-so-mighty 88 horsepower. Ford had to wind up scrambling to re-engineer the Mustang II to accept the 302 V8 for next year's model and, at that point, it only made 140 tired and weary horses …

Just what has wp been up to for so long, haven't seen any crazy early morning ramblings about his Maxx lately. Well, I happened to come across some delicious gossip over at AW forums.....this guy just won't let a grudge go.....so much so that he tries to tarnish this website's name........it's worth a chuckle I think....he even talks a little about Joshy poo [I don't see how this could continue, but it does......what's the purpose? The race was run on Sunday, Oct 10. Those of you with access to Speed Channel will be able to see a 2 hour presentation on October 17 at 3PM ET. I won't give away any spoilers, but here's an incident from the opening lap of the race. Fabian Coulthard suffers a tire failure and rolls through the gravel several times. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2j1Ra1wDl4 "I knew it was missing some panels when I got out without opening the door." 73. Exxon Sees Record Profits for Any U.S. Co. By STEVE QUINN AP Business Writer DALLAS Exxon Mobil Corp. posted record profits for any U.S. company on Monday -- $10.71 billion for the fourth quarter and $36.13 billion for the year -- as the world's biggest publicly traded oil company benefited from high oil and gas prices and demand for refined products. The results exceeded Wall Street expectations and Exxon shares rose nearly 3 percent in morning trading. The company's earnings amounted to $1.71 per share for the October- December quarter, up 27 percent from $8.42 billion, or $1.30 per share, in the year ago quarter. I know I am not the most popular person around these here parts. I was. But I am not now. I can see by the way of some of you refer to me when I am elsewhere. And. Though I have found a new home over at the GMI there are times I really miss the fun and friendships I made on this side of the GM pond. So to all, I apologize for all my ill will and unkind attitude towards you all. For those who felt hurt, bothered or offended by my actions I deeply apologize and hope you can forgive me. Maybe. Just maybe one day I will return and we can be one big happy family again. You are all truly the best people I could ever hope to meet. April Fools. You think I was serious? You …

With all these "car shopping" threads in here lately, I thought I'd try one with a cool car in it for a change. So I'm going along my training route on the bicycle on Thursday when I see this early 2nd gen Camaro sitting on some guy's front lawn for sale. I didn't get a very good look at it, but I knew how to get to it for when I could take a longer look. Today, I'm in the neighborhood and I swing by to see if I can talk to the owner and get a better idea of the car's condition. To keep things short, here's the data: It's a '72 Camaro - the typical early '70s dark brown with black stripes. My guess is, it's not a Z/28 or SS, but it has the split bumper Looks to be …

  81. So I'm back after a few month sabatical and my life has changed considerably since I've last been at C&G. My relationship of three years ended rather suddenlty, though in reality it was heading downhill for a while. It was tough but ultimatley Kate and I ended it on good terms and after a few awkward months managed to succesfully transition ourselves to friend zone status. She is still one of my best friends and we still care deeply about eachother but our directions and goals in life were diverging. She moved out of our apartment July 4th weekend and I moved out at the end of the month since the lease was up. I moved from Westchester county into New York City, i…

Video: "Total Recall" featurette: Hover Car - Watch how the producers of the upcoming remake of "Total Recall" choose not to use CGI to create the hover cars used in the film and the technology they employed to make these cars "real". Link: http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/total-recall-2012/trailers/total-recall-featurette-hover-car-30145564.html\ *I've got to say I'm excited to see this remake. 86. Reddit — if you actually stay awake and pay attention to what's what around the world wide web — is typically a festering rathole, good for hosting line after spewing line of junk data. As a website that idenitfies itself as the leading middle-man for quote-unquote "social news" it brings the concept of citizen journalism to an all-time record low, and any content of actual relevance and solidity seems to give Gawker and its network of bastard children CSPAN-like levels of credibility in outright comparison. You bound up the steps into the gym two at a time, show the front desk chick your member number, and make your way down to the locker room to change. You're so ready to get on that stepper and show it who's boss. 20 minutes on the stepper, no problem. You stop at the water fountain for a sip, in your regular routine, then wash your hands and head back upstairs, two at a time, full of energy. You're no newbie. You mix it up a bit on the apparatus, suavely making your way around the room with a professional, seasoned face. You can't help but glance around at a few attractive people, but your brow remains furrowed, intent on working your muscles, building a better body…

Case in point: 1976 Des Moines Register ad Check out this, that a friend on the El Camino list posted: http://www.myelcamino.net/1976.htm ...and scroll down a little bit to the "Clean Sweep" ad. You see that " '76 Monte Carlo " they have pictured there? Well, I don't think it is; sure looks like a '75. But ... you be the judge and compare.... I'm thinking about putting vanity plates on my Camaros ('68 SS & '73 Z28/RS) but I can't think of anything really cool. Anybody have any ideas? EDIT: Basic specs: The '68 is a 350 4-speed car that is/will be more of a "classic" cruiser. The '73 houses a 406 with a Turbo350 transmission and is/will be more of a "custom" car. Neither will be too wild though, the plates will be NC plates which means 8 letters or less. A few pics:

  96. Before I head to some cesspool like Yahoo Answers, I figured I'd try my question here. I'm working on a wheel safety booklet for a heavy equipment company. If a worker fails to deflate a tire before maintenance, it can explode and send them flying a considerable distance - in some cases, hundreds of feet. I have a chart of commonly used tire sizes, each with a 'energy ft/lbs' figure. For example, a 40 x 57 tire has 807,218 ft/lbs of energy when cold. What I'd like to know, is if anyone here knows if I can parallel these numbers with something a lay-person can understand. For example, if I can state something along the lines of a certain tire possessing the …
