-- -- -- -- -- -- Pete Wilzbach recently discovered a First-Generation Corvette body that may have originally been mounted on the second chassis ever built. Evidence indicates this is the case – which would make this the oldest Corvette in existence. A report in Old Cars Weekly cites an article by Ken Amrick (Solid Axle Corvette Club) that appears in the Fall 2006 issue of the club’s magazine On Solid Ground. The body has some differences and modifications that seem consistent with historical records showing that body No. 002 was used on a car that served as a test mule for production Corvettes. Wilzbach believes it was used in tests done to determine if the small-blo…

Saw this..Thought it was interesting. Thought I'd share. I haven't read it all yet because I gotta get going some place but thought I'd post it real quick. " Last time we checked in on the reportedly fussy Corvette Z06 engine, it was leaking vital fluids after Fox News reporter Gary Gastelu took it to the track. Now it appears that Chevrolet has a fix for at least one of the Z06’s reported engine problems: change the oil, stat. According to a General Motors spokesman, the catastrophic engine failures all seem to have three things in common: early production builds, oil contamination and low miles (under 2,000). (Maybe that explains the one that bought the farm at…

  6. Volkswagen has tainted the reputation of diesel in the U.S. So it seems a bit odd that Chevrolet is not only going ahead with offering a diesel in the upcoming Equinox, but also adding a diesel option for the Cruze. Yesterday, Chevrolet officially announced that the 2018 Cruze sedan and hatchback would come with a 1.6L turbodiesel four-cylinder. It will come with the choice of either a six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic. Official power figures are not out and Chevrolet would not confirm if this is the same engine found in the Equinox. "People who drive diesels, love diesels. And so there is a customer base there that wants to drive this type of vehicle an…

I've never heard of this before, but here's an excerpt from the Chevy Malibu article on Wikipedia... In 1981, General Motors of Canada in Oshawa produced a special order of 12,000 4-door Malibu sedans for Saddam Hussein's Iraqi government. The deal was worth 100-million dollars to GM. These special order Malibus carried the unusual combination of GM's lowest-power V6, the 110hp 229ci (3.8 l) engine mated to a unique 3-on-the-floor stick shifter. All of the cars were equipped with air conditioning, heavy duty cooling systems, tough upholstery and 14-inch (360 mm) stamped steel wheels with trim rings and "baby moon" center caps. They were the ultimate Iraqi Taxis. In 1982…

But one thing, the sun visors suck. Even my 97 S10 had two flaps, one for the side window. And it really felt cheap, now for $46,000 I just need a better sun visor. Autoblog speculates that it could track-focused version of the Z06 model, limited-edition package, or something else. We keen to thinking its the latter two at this time. Then there is the 2015 Cruze. As we reported last week, spy shots of what is purported to be the 2015 model was caught in China. Will it be the same? Th…

After being very underwhelmed with the details of the regular Malibu and Maxx I looked at an SS (it was Silverstone) for the first time last night and can say I was VERY impressed. 10 times better than the craptacular GM PR shots. The Chevrolet SS wheels have really grown on me and they look especially good on the Maxx (The added weight of the wagon-esque profile complements the weighty look of the wheels very well) The "SS" badge on the side is placed correctly instead of awkwardly in never-never land like on the Impala and some of the first Cobalts. And the new nose looks excellent with it's more agressive grille material and bright accents, I also think…

  66. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com June 25, 2012 Two months after NHTSA opened an investigation into the 2011 and 2012 Chevrolet Cruze due to fires, General Motors has announced a recall for 413,418 Cruzes for the 2011 and 2012 model years that were built in the United States through May 2012. The recall affects the Cruze’s engine shield located underneath the engine. The worry is that any fluids that might leak from above and land on the shield could collect and possibly ignite. Dealers will modify the Cruze’s shield and take around 30 minutes to complete. Also, GM is recalling 249 Cruzes that could have partially completed welds in their trunks. Will…

According to a statement from the museum, a security company notified officials around 5:44 AM that motion detectors had gone off in the skydome. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a massive sinkhole measuring 40 feet wide and 25 to 30 feet deep. Luckily, no one was injured when the sinkhole erupted. The bad news is that eight Corvettes currently sit at the bottom of the sinkhole. The eight models are: 1993 ZR-1 Spyder on loan from General Motors 2009 ZR1 “Blue Devil” on loan f…

  73. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com December 30, 2011 Today, General Motors issued a recall for 4,873 Chevrolet Sonics due to missing front brake pads. The Sonics in question were built between June 2 and November 21 at GM's Orion Township plant. GM says that out of the 4,873 Sonics, only 20 to 30 have no brake pads. Having no brake pads on your car doesn't mean you can't stop, it means the braking performance will suffer and could cause damage to other parts of the braking system. Earlier this week, we reported that Chevrolet wouldn't be showing anything at next month's Detroit Auto Show, deflating the dreams of many that the mid-engine Corvette would finally be revealed. We found ourselves wondering if something happened that caused Chevrolet to rethink their plans. GM Authority has learned from sources that a problem with the next-generation Corvette's electrical system has been found. The current system isn't able to carry the load necessary to support the necessary components in the vehicle. This will result in engineers making various changes to the system and suppliers to come up with new parts. This has reportedly pushed back the launch…

The new Malibu has a more athletic look than before. But it has no "Sport" trim package to spice things up, like Ford's Fusion and Toyota's Camry, two formidable rivals. The Kia Optima has a relatively sporty look, too, in higher trims. I'd like to see Chevy add a low-cost Sport trim package to the Malibu. A manual transmission is still offered in certain iterations of the competition, as well, including its main domestic foe... Fusion. If Chevy were to take, say, a 1LT Malibu and offer this package: 2.5L with 6 speed manual (optional automatic, of course). 18 inch unique alloys. Foglamps and low rear spoiler. Sport cloth seats and metallic interior trim... I thi…

Dan Neil of the L.A. Times drives the Chevy Aveo and gives it a surprisingly positive review. An excerpt: That said, there's something quite agreeable about the Aveo. It's comfortable, solidly constructed, and surprisingly eager to please. The little dual-cam motor will happily pull its guts out to get up to speed. The ride quality is reasonably composed for a short-wheelbase (97.6 inches) commuter car, and the interior noise levels more than respectable. The exterior paint quality and panel gap consistency are excellent. And, let me just say, hand-cranked windows? What a clever idea. The biggest surprise in the Aveo is the interior's quality. The subject of a major p…

Well the first set of spy shots have come out and it appears there is a lot in store. Underneath all of the heavy camouflage, we can tell that Chevrolet is going with a more aggressive look and a lowered roofline. The wheels appear to have been moved closer to either end, and the rear end has been trimmed a little. Other details to take note include the quad exhaust pipes, large hood vents, and a big spoiler. This leads to some speculation that we're looking at high-performance model such as the SS or Z…

I'm not expecting any big changes since it is still fairly fresh, just wondering if we have an insight on grille/taillight/headlight/etc revisions. You know mid cycle refreshes that still retain the majority of the cars's styling, but make mild enhancements/changes. Like the Mustang has over the years since it has been redone in the Retro style. I'll be in the market in about another 2 years and looking ahead to see what might be a possible purchase candidate. I like the exterior of the Camaro now, but visibility is concerni…

  99. According to GM Authority, the Chevrolet Traverse is dropping the 2.0T from the lineup and is already no longer available for ordering. The move means that the only available powertrain for the Traverse is the 310 horsepower V6 paired with a 9-speed automatic. The 2.0T was introduced in the 2018 model year only on the RS model which had a slightly sportier flair than the regular Traverse. We wonder though if this signals a move by Chevy to use the new TriPower 2.0T that is found in the Cadillac XT4 and was recently announced to be going into the 2020 GMC Acadia. So don't be surprised if there is an announcement from Chevy soon. View full article

Actually, that's just about what the Cruze Eco is. It's no secret the two cars share platforms, but nothing trains the mind on efficiency quite like creating a car that depends on a battery (at least sometimes), and many of the Volt's teensy and seemingly improbable efficiencies have reappeared on its much better-selling gasoline-only alter ego.
