Cadillac

Cadillac, founded in 1902 in Detroit, quickly gained a reputation for precision and innovation, becoming a leader in American luxury vehicles. Acquired by General Motors in 1909, it set standards with iconic models like the Eldorado and DeVille. Though it faced challenges in the modern era, Cadillac has reinvented itself with bold design and a shift toward electric vehicles, now leading GM’s luxury EV efforts with models like the Lyriq and Celestiq.

When the Maharaja of Orchha desired bespoke bodywork for his new Cadillac V-16 chassis, he did what most fashion-conscious royal family members do: He went shopping in Europe. It was 1931, and France was in its heyday as the provider of haute couture bodywork for the bare running chassis one could purchase from the likes of Duesenberg, Bugatti, and yes, Cadillac. But instead of sampling the goods at Figoni et Falaschi or Franay, the Maharaja chose to engage the talents of a young Italian designer/coachbuilder named Battista Farina. Carrozzeria Farina was founded just a year earlier, but already, Farina's talents were being spoken of in glowing terms. The one-off Cadil…

The Detroit News reports that the next SRX will likely be wearing the XT name, along with a number to designate where it stands in the lineup. Many analysts believe that the SRX replacement will be named the XT5. The SRX has proven to be a big seller for the brand since it moved to the front-wheel drive Theta platform. Last year, Cadillac moved 53,578 SRX models. But the model is getting long in the tooth. Sales so far this year have dropped 17.5 percent to 12,294 vehicles. 7. The Cadillac XT4 is an important model for the brand as it will give them a competitor in the lucrative compact luxury crossover class. It might also give one of GM's assembly plants some much needed good news. Bloomberg has learned from sources that General Motors has started producing test versions of the Cadillac XT4 at their Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City. This possibly hints that production of the XT4 could take place here. A GM spokesman declined to comment when asked about this. The Fairfax plant has been hit hard by the decline in sales for midsize sedans. Home to the Chevrolet Malibu, the plant has seen the third shift cut last year as Malibu sal…

http://autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?...41/TOC01ARCHIVE DETROIT - General Motors has shown auto dealers fastback coupe and Euro-styled crossover variants of the Cadillac CTS, sources close to Cadillac say. Cadillac General Manager Jim Taylor says developing a broader line of CTS-based vehicles - as BMW does with the 3 series and Mercedes-Benz with the C class - would boost revenue for the vehicle program. But Taylor says GM's board of directors has yet to approve the plan. The restyled and re-engineered 2008 CTS sedan is scheduled to reach dealerships in fall 2007. It's a key part of GM's effort to build on the revival of its luxury brand and attempt to win more c…

Read this in a recent car mag, can't remember which. Basically, Mercedes is collecting and restoring some of their classic models at specialized shops. For the longest time, I've felt Cadillac should do this. My family has had 3 beautiful old Caddies over the years- a 64 Coupe DeVille, a 65 Sedan DeVille, and a 75 CDV. Ours were all in great shape (dad was a bodyman/mechanic, so that helped) as long as we owned them, but I've always seen similar old Caddies that are just sad to behold- belching smoke, rusting to pieces, missing pieces, etc. I always thought that, out of respect for the brand, Cadillac should buy out all those old cars, restore the ones th…

This example features power windows (including vent windows), power door locks (with the button being the actual door lock lever high-up on the door), power seat and guide-matic headlamp control. It was in such gorgeous original shape I thought it was a great representation that even the "base" model featured great styling!

  25. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 3, 2012 Motor Trend is reporting that a coupe version of the new Cadillac ATS has been put on hold. The reason lies in GM’s stock price dropping like a rock; 30% drop since from its November 2010 initial public offering price. GM hopes by delaying or cancelling projects to save money, that will raise their stock price up. This is where we begin to enter the twilight zone of ATS rumors. One incentive attaches $700 in dealer bonus money to every Cadillac vehicle they order from the factory, while another has cash payouts for growing sales. “The business model has been structured more for the bigger brands inside General Motors, rather than the small Cadillac brand,” said de Nysschen. “The luxury business is different.” de Nysschen instead …

The brand has seen sales slip 2.2 percent within the first five months of this year, a bit surprising considering the luxury market is booming. “The brand has not grown as well this year as it did last year. They do have a greatly improved product line, but they need to have that produce results. They need to connect more with the consumer,” said IHS Automotive analyst Tom Libby. Not helping matters is the question of who leading Cadillac at the moment. Bob Ferguson, Cadillac's global chief and former lobb…

  58. Ok, calm down, stop breakin $h! in your parent's basement, it's going to be ok. I'm not comparing the two cars, I'm simply curious as to what this first generation's legacy will be. I went into the day expecting to love the 3.6 and like the 2.0T simply because it exists. Much to my surprise, when the day was over I found myself wanting more highway pulls in the 2.0T, more chances to heel toe in the twisties, more, more more! The turbocharged 4 cylinder puts out 275hp/296 lb-ft of torque that is seemingly available at all times. I dropped the thing into 5th on an uphill left hand sweeper, put my foot in it and even at 2000rpm's I felt a substantial shove b…

  61. Rumorpile: GM Resurrects The Cadillac Converj William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com August 11, 2011 The Cadillac Converj concept received many acclaims when it was shown at the 2009 North American International Auto Show, which caused GM to pursue development a few months later. However the Converj project was given the ax in 2010 due to two reasons: GM couldn't make a profit on the small volume of Converjs being built and the worry of the of enginners the range and performance of the electric powertrain. However, a source close to project at GM says the project has been revived. The source says executives at GM gave the project a green li…

  62. General Motors announced this week that it would be investing $245 million and adding 300 new jobs at its Orion Assembly plant - home of the Chevrolet Sonic, Buick Verano, and soon to be Chevrolet Bolt. Now this investment is for an "all-new vehicle program unlike any in the plant's 32-year history." So what could this vehicle be? Motor Trend reports that a source says the program is "a future crossover with no predecessor" and that "the gaps in [Cadillac's] product lineup are obvious." So in other words, the possible program is a small Cadillac crossover. Now we have been hearing and reporting that Cadillac is planning to have a range of crossovers in the next f…

I was thoroughly surprised when I came to read this and read the results and I think it is the best looking of the group and it sounds like it(and all new Cadillacs) have been nailing the driving portion of the car. But a major bummer on the interior and yet again CUE. How long will it take them to sort that out??? It looks like Cadillac was going for "value for size". rather than just being the best and that's disappointing. CT6 vs E300 vs S90 Here's the intro but you can read the full comparison at the above link. " Large luxury cars used to be powered by throaty, grumbling eight-cylinder engines. 65. Since the launch of the XT4 with the rather anemic (if more refined) LSY engine, many (including myself) had questioned why GM does not offer the Tripower 310 bhp / 348 lb-ft (L3B) 2.7T 4-cylinder in the XT4 (at least) as an option. To a lesser extent some have also questioned why the LSY is putting out a mere 237bhp / 258 lb-ft whereas the outgoing LTG engine is good for 265~272 bhp / 295 lb-ft. Is it just so that it can have 258 lb-ft arrive @ 1,500 rpm? Now, we have the answer... It's the 9-speed Automatics. Adopting the 9-speed automatics is deemed a priority for refinement and fuel economy. The new GM-Ford 9TXX transmissions, jointly developed with Ford pro…

  67. LANSING – General Motors Co. celebrated the start of production of the new Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon today with the first vehicle rolling off the line at the Lansing Grand River assembly plant. The Detroit automaker hopes the station wagon will appeal to customers looking for luxury, fuel efficiency and space. William Mack, Cadillac CTS product manager, said the company expects to sell 4,000 to 7,000 of the CTS Sport Wagon each year. At the same time, GM has also launched a revamped version of the SRX luxury crossover, which some analysts say could compete for the same types of customers. Workers celebrated the new vehicle, which adds four models to the line, inclu…

I almost pulled the trigger on a CTS V-sport a couple of months ago but didn't and now the used prices on all CTS's (not just V-sport) seem to have rebounded since then. Good for Cadillac that they found bottom and are climbing again but bad for me. Sooo... after driving this 2016 ATS Luxury 2.0T and mentioning to the salesman about the CTS, when I got back to the dealership after the test drive he started talking to me about leasing a "new" courtesy vehicle with 4-5k miles on it already that would count against the lease. The first Caddy ute to get a modest makeover is the SRX, which shares its underpinnings with the STS and CTS sedans. As part of a midcycle freshening for model-year 2007, Cadillac will offer a new SRX Sport kit in August that is primarily an appearance package, with unique wheels and tires, grille, rocker panels, and front and re…

At Gold Coast Cadillac in Oakhurst, N.J., twin sisters Tara and Robin Luyber each brought home a new CTS. This special day for Tara and Robin was also a milestone in Cadillac history, as the CTS crossed the quarter-million threshold in total sales. “The 250,000 th CTS sold marks an important moment for Cadillac,” said general manager Jim Taylor. “CTS sales increased in each of its first four years on the market, an unusual phenomenon in …

IL Exclusive: Michael Jordan Picks Cadillac XLR-V as First American Car Date posted: 03-21-2006 CHICAGO — Perhaps taking a cue from rapper Snoop Dogg, who buttonholed Dieter Zetsche for a new Chrysler 300C, former Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan took delivery of one of the first 2006 Cadillac XLR-Vs in the country from none other than Cadillac general manager Jim Taylor. IL has learned that Taylor had his team personally deliver the car to Jordan's home here. 79. 15 months ago, Cadillac announced that it would be raising the price of the new CTS. This move worried dealers as it would cause buyers to look away. It seems their fears were founded as sales of the CTS this past year dropped 3.8 percent when compared to last year. Cadillac is doing something about that. Automotive News got their hands on a memo issued to Cadillac dealers yesterday which announced that it would reduce sticker prices on most 2015 CTS models by $1,000 to $3,000. It also plans on increasing the amount of standard features in the CTS. "We're taking what we've seen are the more desirable optional features for customers and making them more readily available…

  82. It has finally happened, the first spy shots of the upcoming 2020 Cadillac CT5 have been released. The first item that jumps out is the hood scoop. No, we don't think this will make it into production as it is likely part of the camouflage to disguise the vehicle. Moving past that, the CT5 takes a fair amount of inspiration from the Escala concept. This is evident along the side where there is a fastback design for the roof and extra rear quarter window. We're expecting an engine lineup similar to the CTS - a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder, 3.6L V6, and twin-turbo 3.0L V6. The CT5 will replace the ATS, CTS, and XTS when it goes into production in 2019. …

  83. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com May 14, 2013 While Cadillac is attacking the German automakers with the compact ATS and upcoming CTS, one place you will not see the crest and shield do battle is in the volume race. "We're not going to be in every single segment that they're in," said General Motors CFO Dan Ammann to Automotive News. "In some ways, I think that not having the pressure to sell the last incremental car at whatever cost … is actually not a bad place to be right now." Now, Cadillac has a different set of circumstances than the German automakers. For one, Cadillac has a much smaller lineup and sales when compared to the Germans. Now GM…

  86. Cadillac Working On A Convertible? William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 1, 2011 Cadillac's recent track record with convertibles has been abysmal. The Allanté from the late 80's and the recent XLR had high aspirations, but fell flat in sales. Car & Driver is now reporting that Cadillac is working a convertible that will fit between the ATS and CTS. The convertible will use a fabric roof to help with the vehicle's weight. Engine choices for the convertible could range from turbo-4, V6, or V8s. The convertible is expected to come out in late 2013 as a 2014 model. Source: Car & Driver

  87. For the longest time, Cadillac has been trying to crack the European market. All of its attempts so far have fallen flat. The brand's latest attempt featuring the ATS and CTS has been shelved for the time being due to financial problems and finding better success in China and U.S. That doesn't mean Cadillac has given up. "Clearly our number one priorities are the US and China, but in the longer term there is a role for Cadillac in Europe," said GM President Dan Ammann. Ammann also was realistic about chances the brand has in Europe. "Is it going to be a high-volume contender in the medium to long term future? Probably not. But is there a role for something other than t…

  88. It seems Cadillac has some updates in store for the XTS if some leaked pictures from Chinese website Autohome are the real deal. The pictures show the XTS taking some ideas from the CT6 and XT5. Up front is a broader, more upright grille with new headlights. Around back is a more sculpted trunk lid and L-shaped taillights. Powertrains are expected to carry over, meaning the U.S. will stick with the 3.6L V6 and twin-turbo 3.6L. Over in China, the XTS will stick with the 2.0L turbo-four. We wouldn't be surprised if there is an update for the CUE system. Source: Autohome View full article

  90. The way I see it, while Cadillac may be leading GM's brand renaissance it has two problems:- (1) Lack of a Globally relevant, unified product portfolio. (2) Lack of a Compact Luxury (3-series/C-class) offering. The first is quite apparent. You have the Escalade which is a US Suburban derivative. The SLS which is a China only S-class competitor which Caddy won't bring to the US and EU because it believes that it has decided to surrender to the S-class and the 7-series rather than risk additional funds to try and market a so-so product. The BLS is yet another derivative, this time an Opel, and a flop in the EU where they just wanted to bring out something for the sake…
