Yep, I'm going there. With all the recent pieces on the decline of the sedan segment- primarily the midsize one- I thought what better way to honor that classic, one-time quintessential staple of American families than by doing a Dream Garage thread. So here are the rules- 1) It must have been a car for sale in YOUR market. 2) Any era is allowed. 3) It must be a mainstream brand, midsize family sedan. No compacts, full-sizes, etc. Ignore EPA ratings. We will use model hierarchy and position in market place. 4) Maximum of 5 cars. 5) Try to make these cars fulfill as many roles as possible- sport, family hauling, etc. EDIT- I…

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/25/education/25sorority.html I'm sure most of y'all have heard about the big NYT story...but what you may not know is that one of my good friends from HS was one of the 23, and she just finished giving an interview with People today, which will be for sale this Thursday. I'd give more of what I know of the situation now, but I have an Urban & Regional Economics midterm tomorrow that I have to get back to studying for...boooo

Ok... so I might be 25, but that's no reason not to carve a pumpkin... Enjoy! :D If it's not clear, the pumpkin has Cadillac crests for eyes, a Pontiac emblem for a nose and a Chevrolet bowtie for a mouth. I know, I didn't carve the Buick, GMC,Saturn etc. emblems. My carving ability is still at a child's level. Sorry about the poor image quality... I took this with my phone.

I’m trying to make this short, but if you’ve seen even my other single posts...humor me. It’s a long time coming. For more pictures of each of my 3 new GM rides, hit the Member’s Rides Showcase HERE. If any of you remember, last year early in the summer after I had just graduated and started working officially, I posted about new car shopping. Driving my beloved ’95 Cadillac Fleetwood at the time, I thought I wanted to make a drastic change and was looking at anything from a Chevy HHR to a Honda Fit to, essentially, what I “really wanted” with another new Malibu like I had chosen for my mother earlier in the year and loved. #1: 2008 Pontiac G6 GT Coupe White Diam…

I didn't see any prototypes... ...but I did run into the former Vice Chairman of General Motors. (Image may not be used without permission.) As you might imagine, there's really only one man who would fly over GM's proving grounds in a Aero L-39 Albatros fighter jet at low altitude, bank hard right and make a hasty exit.

This is very important indeed. My friend (who has a Toyota Corolla I've mentioned before), his sister got a job I guess and she needs a car now. His family has always bought Japanese cars (they're Asian). Well I've talked with him before about some of the hot new American cars (he wants a Saturn Sky someday), and he was very impressed with my Intrepid, so both him and his sister want to give American cars a chance. The problem is that their dad is very bias and refuses to allow anything besides Japanese cars into the family. I find it screwy because it's her money that she's using to buy a car, but whatever. So here's the challenge: I need to come up with a list of…

Lately I've been considering just what sort of serious vehicle purchase will come next for me. And by serious, I mean one that isn't a project or so old as to be impractical as a daily driver. At some point, I will need to replace the Tahoe and the ROPOS with a half-decent truck that I can plow with and use for all of the things I do workwise. But that can happen over time since the Tahoe now owes me some miles (and I like it). The vehicle I am considering will have to be better on fuel than the Tahoe (not hard to do), be a manual, and be something I can enjoy when I drive it. It will also have to be low-mileage and long trip worthy since I am way overdue for some goo…

Got the car home yesterday morning and spent most if the weekend on it detailing and checking it over. It cleaned up a lot better that I thought it would. One wheel had been curbed and has some scuffing on it, just bought a new one off ebay to replace it with for $57!!! Here's some pics from today....

We had to put our oldest cat, Rose to sleep last night. She's not been well for some time, but it got a lot worse yesterday morning. We decided that it was best to euthanize her to end her pain and suffering. We made an appointment for Monday morning. However when I was getting ready to go to bed last night at 2 or so, I noticed she was in her pet hut with her eyes open with a dead stare, not moving at all. It was painful to watch. We had to find an emergency center that was actually open. We took her their at 3am and they put her to sleep. I don't thinks he would have made it through the night. It sucks, our pets are family to us. At least she's not suffering …

* HELLO AGAIN, EVERYBODY! I'm not sure any quantity or quality of words or time will ever be able to express my appreciation for ALL of your well wishes, thoughts/prayers. I'm well, mostly. My 4th open heart surgery (11/11/2011) was successful (my "big heart" is no more)! However, I was taken in for another surgery (evening, 11/12/2011), after I became unresponsive for a time due to internal bleeding around the surgery site. I still hurt/ache and am cold at times, but I'm coping and TRYING to follow "doctors orders" as MUCH as possible. The pain is more "annoying" than anything. Recovery is going VERY SLOWLY (it seems, since I haven't had energy to DO much), but b…

Five of the nine Supreme Court justices voted to overturn a 1937 ruling that limited corporate funding of political campaigns. This makes me very nervous. We have upended 60 years of campaign finance rules and have done a 180 back to the robber baron era of politics. Not only will this affect the national level, it could affect state and local level as well. Imagine the local Wal-Mart funding the election of a small town mayor if he promises to provide incentives and upgraded roads for a new store, or a major employer backing a candidate for governor if he promises to relax regulation. And not only that, but the more money you have, the more negative media you ca…

In early August my girlfriend and I will be driving to Florida. Along the way we will be passing through Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia. We'll be heading through Alabama on the way back since we're going to stop and visit her niece near Huntsville. I've been to all mentioned except the deep south states like Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi, so it should be a fun trip. How inundated was Nashville with water? I was thinking that would be a great halfway point, but if it was anything like the flooding we had here two years ago, we'll probably stay somewhere else instead. I want to check out Atlanta, but I don't really know what there is to see o…

I have spent some time looking for a list of the upcoming GM products (2012, 2013, 2014, etc), but have found nothing on the web. I know they have changed a fair amount in the past year and was hoping to find a comprehensive list of what is next. Beauty machine’ makes everyone pretty Researchers say device transforms any woman's photo into model-likeness By Robert Roy Britt updated 2:31 p.m. ET, Fri., Nov. 7, 2008 Researchers have created a "beauty machine" they say can turn a woman's photo into the likeness of a cover model with the push of a button. The goal is not just to toy with pictures. Sure, the new computer software could help editors distort magazine cover photos even more than they already do. But it could also guide plastic surgeons in efforts to achieve some perceived level of perfection in a patient. Or the software might even be incorporated into future digital cameras to make us all app…

Be it fond memories or helping your dad keep the hunk of junk running, what cars/trucks do you remember mostly from your youth that your parents owned? I remember my dad's 84 Sierra Classic, 76 Ford Maverick coupe, 89 Chevy S-10 Blazer and my mom's 75 Ford Maverick Sedan. EDIT: We also had an 85? Oldsmobile Cutlass, but I remember me and my brother bitching about having to close the big doors. Other than that it was a great car and my mom loved it.

If you go to Wikipedia and search on "Star Trek (movie)" and scroll down, you'll see a picture of the new Enterprise bridge with Kirk (Chris Pine.....oooooo so f@#king hot) and McCoy...... I have to say.....the new bridge is SO cool, it's incredible....! Somehow, they were able to design a bridge that looks futuristic compared to today's times.....yet captures the "cheesy" spirit of the original (and I say "cheesy" in a good way.) Think "Enterprise" meets "Apple's IPod" and you'll get an idea of what it looks like. AND, Pine's "slouch" in the captain's chair seems PURE William Shatner..... I mean, it's soo easy for me to bleed in the winter time and it bugs the crap out of me. Anything else on the planet that is self propelled and can travel across land using wheels or tracks (as in rails like a train or tracked vehicles like tanks and bulldozers) and carry a passenger or driver is eligible. Hey ladies and gents, So the gf and I finally got Netflix last night(signed up for it) and we had intended to use her ps3 because we are always at her house when we watch tv/movies. Well, i have a 3rd gen ps3, I think - first gen when they changed the "body". And I know I can watch Netflix from my PS3. Well hers doesn't have the "tv/movie services" tab like mine does. Sorry, forgot to say, she has a first gen PS3(plays ps2 games). The question really is.. can Netflix be watched from her first gen PS3? If so, how? Thank You!

Didn't want to throw this into the GM Merchandise forum, since these arent readily available. But, since I was cleaning up around here and found these I thought I'd snap a couple pics and throw 'em up. I mentioned these to Cort last week. Got these in fall of '84 when the '85s came out. These were the ones on the wall at the Chevy dealer. They are fairly thick cardboard. Wanted the Vette and Camaro ones, but a salesman snagged them. So I ended up with a bunch, but these are the only two I have left. I had Chevette, Citation X-11, Astro, and Silverado ones (those that I can remember anyway). Funny part was that in '89, I bought an '85 Eurosport like this one exce…

No, I'm not buying an Infiniti. I'm talking about the G20 summit being held in my home town. What. A. Nightmare. Every downtown business that isn't a restaurant is being told to shut down. There are travel restrictions on the airport. The main arteries through town will be closed. There are no arteries around town. Construction has boomed. They are rushing to get roads repaved and buildings finished before the dignitaries arrive. Protesters have already arrived and it's still a month away. The Secret Service and the County are toying with the protesters... which I don't approve of... but I understand. First the protesters were going to be moved to Point State Park…

By: Alistair Weaver Date Posted 10-10-2005 BMW and Mercedes-Benz are at war again, and the stakes could not be higher. This is not simply a matter of 7 Series versus S-Class or SLK against Z4. This is a struggle for the future direction of the automobile. Inside Line asked senior figures from Mercedes and BMW to outline their companies' visions of the future, and while they agree on some issues, there are also some startling and fundamental differences of opinion. I just got back into the workout routine this semester, lifting weights and doing a couple laps around the track every other day. A buddy and I both keep a sheet where we record how many reps and the amount of weight each time, and it really shows you how much progress you've made. I used to go sometimes last year, but we didn't keep a record and after a while only started going once every week and just kinda fell out of it as things got busier. But seeing the improvements written down each week really gets you motivated to go each time and keeping lifting a little more. I've also noticed I feel a whole lot better physically when I'm in a regular routine.

1973 Starlight Black Pontiac GTO 400 CID The owner whom orginally got the car lives in my town of Dubuque got this car new at a Pontiac dealer in my town. (Whom I never go to.) Still it is a neat piece and is in great shape with PHS and only 82K on the clock. The buy-it-now of $12,500 seems pretty fair. So what do all you think? If I had the money and an agreeable wife I would get it. Even though it isn't my favorite year of GTO still it is pretty sweet. I love the color combo and if it was a floor shift and 455 it would be even better. Not that a 400 is a pooch and it has a bench seat... Don't give me any ideas...

Al Gore Wins 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Linkity By GERALD F. SEIB and JEFFREY BALL October 12, 2007 2:31 p.m. WASHINGTON -- Former Vice President Al Gore won a share of the Nobel Peace Prize for his work publicizing global warming, an honor that is sure to raise speculation anew about his presidential ambitions and makes it more difficult for other politicians to avoid the global-warming issue. The former vice president shares the prize with the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Nobel Prize committee announced in Norway. The prize caps a remarkable stretch for Mr. Gore's effort to raise the profile of the climate-change debate; …

I have another challenging Dream car garage to post or two...but for today the easiest one yet. Only limitation for all ten is that you must be able to walk into your state/province DMV and register it legally. First 3-New 2017 cars you would buy, less than 50 grand... Next 3-New 2017 cars you would buy, 50 grand to 125 grand... Next 3-used cars you would buy, any market any era, just must be street legal. that is it-although i would like to see different cars than we usually post up. Challenger and Raptor ahve had a lot of exposure in dream car garage, looking for whatever else you all can come up with. Last car-#10-Anything street legal on the …

Well, you can choose to buy one Prius for about $25,000 or ten Tata Nanos for the same price. Which would it be? Pros: Prius: Good gas mileage Prius: You'll have celebrities wanting your car Tata: Prestige 2 cylinder engine Tata: You can have one hell of a good bumper car game Tata: You could say you've got a nice set of Tatas... Cons: Prius: Well, it's a Prius... Prius: Styled like a whale Tata: "What's style? Our engineers didn't know either." Tata: WTF is a Tata? (WHERE'D THE POLL GO?)

We've had one for several years. Went for a while unused but several months ago I dragged it out and started using it again. This thing makes awesome chicken, bacon and pork chops (never tried fish). However whenever I grill burgers it always drys them out. If anyone owns of of these things do you have this problem, and if so did you find a solution?

This weeked was the first day of fishing season. Didn't plan on doing a comedic documentary this year, but I did take some pics out of boredom. Just... Random... Pics... Oh, so technically, this first one is from Easter weekend when it snowed. These two are of Brookville. Now for some highly exciting fishing action. Oh yes. Next, we have some beauty shots of my Grandpa's old Yamaha Big Bear. Finally, random shots of my Millenia while at my Grandparent's.

Any Virginia residents here or people who can help me? I bought a car on Ebay that I'm picking up in Virginia this friday and I want to know how to do the transfer and get a transit to drive the car home to Canada. See my post in the Oldsmobile section under "bought a 77 Cutlass Supreme" if you want to see this beauty. Thanks

So Terminator 2 and Matrix have been on TV tonight and I've really got a hankering for a firearm now. All I want for Christmas is an AR-15 or an MP-5. Of course a tactical shot gun would be fun too.

We had to put another dog to sleep today, Tinkerbell aka Tinky, a 15.5 yr old puppy mill rescue Silky Terrier... she was a sweet, timid little dog that struggled w/ cancer and and enlarged heart the last few years...she'd been losing weight and had no appetite lately.

Some day... I'd like my Millenia to look like this, almost exactly. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/669611 I love the color, I love the wheels, I love the little non USDM details, I love that it has a 5 speed manual, I love how clean the engine looks, I love the tasteful two tone interior, I love... I just love the whole thing, even those wacky headlight washer nozzles. If I'm ever able... My Millenia will hopefully look like that in the future... *dreams*

So in keeping to the spirit of seeing what people would drive. Here you have two choices, both 1987. So please choose which one you would drive and why? If you feel you cannot drive this, then keep it in the same Year and explain why you would rather have an alternative choice. 1987 Buick Grand National GNX 1987 BMW M3 1987 Alternative ???????

With 2007 just a few days away, I thought I'd end 2006 on a good note with you guys. It's cheesy and simple... So don't hate me for that. I'd like to start a toast to the new year and all the happenings of the current one. Just pick a drink, mix it, and enjoy. To Chris, for reasons better left unmentioned. To Fly, for keeping his composure after the attack of Toyotas he endured. To Z, for all his work on making sure C&G doesn't suffer another crash. To NOS, for jumping out of all those birthday cakes. And to GMtruckguy, for his enthusiasm in Saturn... he bought two of them after all. To Reg, for never giving Honda... or Acura a chance. To Camino, fo…

This is a combination of CheersandGears monthly car spotter threads and Would You Rather threads. Ive come to realize that lately in Montreal, in the summer, interesting cars appear. This was not the case even 5 years ago...but Ill take it now.... Usually, the interesting cars are seen by me on the same day or 24 hours later, and usually, these cars are somewhat similar in some peculiar way. I like to pair them up and start a conversation. These are past sightings. A sample of three from Motor Trend Forums for some of you to see what kind of bizarre thoughts I have.... http://forums.motortrend.com/70/9633577/the-general-forum/would-you-rather-an-e30-m3-from-bmw…

So I have this floor lamp with a end table built into it. Secured by the shaft is casting of an eagle the rests on the table. I remember when I was younger we had it in our living room, but it eventually ended up in the attic when we didn't have a place for it (or it broke, I don't remember). I always thought it was neat, and decided that I wanted to take it with us for my apartment. The lamp shade was gone an the socket for the bulb looked like it was in rough shape, as well as the housing being gone and the wiring being old. However, since they sell kits that let you replace the guts in your old lamp with new ones, I figured I could fix it. In all the madness that was …

As I've been tearing down the Golf this past week, I've found that my garage is quite inefficient for the work I'm doing. With winter temperatures, it's difficult to heat up. That entirely ancient iron wood furnace is slow to start. Just as much smoke will pour out around the door as the chimney. The first hour is spent tending to the fire as you keep the garage doors open to prevent the smoke from smothering you. Once its going strong, you close the doors, revealing a slight crack at the top of each. Another hour later, the garage will finally begin to heat up a few degrees above freezing. Without insulation and those cracked doors, that's basically all you can manag…

Well, new guy here taking a few minutes to introduce himself. I'm Denis, a 22 year-old guy from Moncton, NB, in Canada and, obviously a GM fan and general auto enthusiast. I'm also a university student who's studying in journalism and I have my own little "web-based media outlet" where I write about, you guessed it, cars. I've heard of this site many a time before, but I never really visited more than that up until I saw an incoming link from thia forum to one of my writeups on my site. Checked-out the place, thought it looked like a pretty good place with plenty of interesting discussion going on, so here I am. Anyway, I guess that all I have to say for now... I lo…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbwSwvUaRqc&feature=player_embedded Does this make any sense to any of you? I'll quote the blog I got it from: "This is the blunt-end result of all the war imagery and militaristic rhetoric politicians have been spewing for the last 30 years—cops dressed like soldiers, barreling through the front door middle of the night, slaughtering the family pets, filling the house with bullets in the presence of children, then having the audacity to charge the parents with endangering their own kid. There are 100-150 of these raids every day in America, the vast, vast majority like this one, to serve a warrant for a consensual crime. But they di…

Last night as I was sitting alone and pitiful, enjoying my dinner at a local spot, in walks a pair of folks that made me stare a bit: a little, gray haired with glasses skinflint, 5'2" white dude in his late 50's, with a 5'10" black girl in her 30's, with a Supremes hairdo. Made the rest of the room look boring. Does anyone else enjoy the sport of "people watching"?

Normally I never work on the Odyssey, but it needed an oil change and transmission fluid change, so instead of getting raped at the dealership, I thought I'd do it myself. So last night, I extracted the oil through the dipstick with my Mityvac evacuator. Then I poured in fresh oil thorugh the fill cap. This morning I drove it a while to get the ATF warmed up. I drained the ATF through the drain plug, and refilled it with a funnel into the ATF dipstick. I drove it around the block. But then I noticed some bad noises and gear slippage. I opened the owner's manual again, and lo and behold, what I thought was the engine oil dipstick was the ATF dipstick, and what I thou…

I like watching "Good Times". It's a pretty cool show. But for the life of me I cannot stand J.J. Evans. He's so damn irritating in every way. His voice, his clothes, his face, his over-inflated ego and the worst thing of all, his damned catchphrase: "Dynomite!" I just want to strangle him. Mind you, I don't have anything aganist Jimmie Walker, the actor who played him but I just hate the character J.J. Any TV characters make you sick?

You'd be surprised that, even in coat and tie settings or in politics, people have always coined nickames for each other...be they good or bad. Some of the mumu ladies at the company I worked for in Atlanta called me the "crumb chaser" because I would "drop by" a buffet another department was holding...I was 5'10"/high 160s at the time, so they had room to talk (???) Some are geographic: "Santa Barbara" (G) - a spoiled, not a care in the world guy I work with who went to UCSB "West Texas" (NG) - a dollied-up co-worker who looks like a beauty contest entry from a small West Texas town for whom that would be the high point of her life "Reno" - (G) a lady with a hus…
