  2. My wife and I went over to our local Chevy Dealer (Loren Berg Chevrolet) to test drive the new Camaro. We got to be the first "customer" to drive it, so we took it home and got some pictures of it in front of our home (for proof). In typical Loren Berg fashion we took it out without any salesperson in the car. It does help that I am friends with the owner, Loren. The car drove just like all the reports said it would, darn near perfect. It is a Silver V6 model with the RS package. You can see pictures of it at www.flickr.com/dsuupr

Chevy previously claimed its new ten-speed was a quick shifter during our ride-along in a Camaro ZL1 prototype earlier this year. Now Chevy has numbers to back it up. Based on Chevy’s own testing, the 2017 Camaro ZL1’s automatic shifts from 1st to 2nd gear 36 percent quicker than the Porsche PDK. The automaker claims th…

Return of the Real Impala By John Pearley Huffman Date posted: 11-14-2005 If General Motors has a distinctive engineering tradition it's a weird commitment to V8 front-drivers. Since the introduction of the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado, GM has always had at least one V8-powered front-driver in its product line. Usually two. Despite all that history, this V8-powered, 303-horsepower 2006 Impala SS is the layout's first migration to Chevrolet. Dismissing this Chevy Impala SS as a pretender because it isn't rear-drive like the Impalas of yesteryear is a lazy cop-out. It's a cop-out because those old Impalas weren't that great and how this car compares to t…

  9. General Motors has released a slew of images that show the first batch of pre-production 2010 Chevy Camaros being assembled at the its assembly plant in Oshawa, Ontario. Check out the gallery below to see how the sausage is made, though watching the Camaro go from shells to showroom ready is much more appetizing than watching someone stuff animal intestines with meat. The gallery shows nearly every stage of the muscle car's birth process, including paint, the mating of body to chassis, final inspections and the finished product that pops out the other end. Enjoy. 10. There seems to be quite the flood of lightly owned Captiva Sports on the market now. Some may recall these as Saturn Vues. How does everyone think these compare with the small-mid crossover market, with all its new contenders? The Captiva got the 6 speed auto. Its a solid ride. It didn't have the foibles of the Escape. But how can it compete when there is already an Equinox too? I think its a nice choice to have it in the pre-owned stable. The ones I have seen are too pricey though. I would get one over an Equinox maybe, but not a Terrain.

I have some reservations about a 1.4T being more economical than a 1.8 DI, but at least it serves to differentiate the car from the flock. However, there is nothing to like about the lame name that sounds like "Curse" or (Tom) "Cruise". So, I am proposing that we come up with some alternative names for this bread and butter Chevy of the future. I propose that Chevy name all their mainstream vehicles after places or cities. There is already some sort of a tradition in that direction -- Malibu, Tahoe, Colorado, et…

We rented an '07 Cobalt Coupe in Denver last weekend. Overall, it was a solid little car, and even after lots of flogging up and down mountainous roads, we averaged over 30 mpg...EXCELLENT! If there were any detractors, it would be the hard interior plastics and the wheezy-whiny mechanical noises from the engine. Of course, we're accustomed to driving cars in a different class - in our garage is a new Subaru Legacy and new Honda Civic. Also, for comparison notes, I recently rented an '07 PT Cruiser (handled almost a good as my Civic!!) and an '07 Jetta (supple, fast, but with weird engine noises). My final take: the Cobalt is an attractive, easy driver.

The list of excuses is long and goes on and on :AH-HA_wink: Funny thing is Vette may have fared better if not for the optional suspension http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?se...article_id=6169 Vette - All Power all the time V8 Vantage - Better battle for the XLR F430 - Lawdy that's expensive R8 - Who forgot the soul?

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?se...article_id=2781 "In terms of raw acceleration, the Z06 is world-class quick, though not quite a match for its cross-town Mopar rival, the Dodge Viper SRT-10. Our vBox test gear clocked a 4.2-second 0-60 run, nearly reaching this speed in 1st gear, where the Dodge sprints there in 4.0; likewise, the Z06 dispatches the quarter-mile in 12.3 sec. at 116.6 mph, while its V-10-powered adversary cranks out a 12.1 at 119.3. The Viper feels quicker too in a roll-on situation, its extra 1.3 liters of displacement practically punting you forward, versus the still-forceful but more linear surge of the Z06."

It was just anounced that Roush for the first time will start to offer some aftermarket parts like tuners for GM truck. Can we see this as a look into the future? I posted a statment from someone a while ago from GM that There was a chance of a Roush Camaro. Either way We sell Roush products at work and they have some real quality items, not inexpensive but great quality. I see Roush products only being a big plus for Chevy and GM owners and I hope this leads to bigger and better things. Roush has always done a lot of work for GM but kept it quite. In the last year that has changed and we are seeing his company doing this for GM and not hiding it like the GX…

Rumor Mill: V6 Corvette? Yech... Rumors of a V6-powered Corvette model have been floating around for years but weren't taken very seriously until Motor Trend decided to spend some ink on it a few issues ago and predict the six-cylinder model would revive the "Sting Ray" name. The model would basically be a Chevy-branded version of the Kappa roadster that GM has liberally passed out to such brands as Pontiac (Solstice), Saturn (Sky) and Opel (GT). Chevy's version would be different in that power would come from a V6 rather than an inline-four cylinder, and rumor has it that it would be badged a Corvette. Kind of sounds like a long shot, but Rick "Corvette" Conti, the #1…

While watching some of the news this morning they mentioned the top cars that the insurance institute claimed as the safest. To my suprise the Ford Five Hundred/Montigo tested best in the full size test, Saab 9-3 best in mid size with the Chevy Malibu in there also. I found it interesting that CNN went out of their way to note that Saab was owned by GM and it was good to see a US owned car in there.

Saleen Camaro a Possibility? Steve Saleen (founder of Saleen Performance, manufacturer of limited edition, high-performance vehicles) in a recent interview with Road and Track Magazine hints that there may very well be a Saleen edition of the upcoming Camaro. Saleen has already had a hand in the history and marketing of the Camaro concept car, as the manufacturer of the Bumblebee Camaro car for the big screen movie edition of The Transformers. When asked of manufacturing a Saleen versino of the new Camaro, Steve Saleen is quoted as saying “It’s not legally official right now, but that’s what we’re hoping for.” Read "Saleen Camaro and 2009 Camaro engines revealed by Stev…

So, I made a chop of what I hope to one day see, a Saleen Camaro (please comment on this chop's design HERE): Then I did a little Saleen S281 (Mustang) research. S281 stands for the Saleen version of Ford's 281 cubic inch 4.6L V8 in the Mustang GT. The Saleen S281's performance specs are as follows (stage: "name of stage" -- horsepower/torque): Ford Mustang GT -- 300/320 S281 Stage 1: "3-Valve" -- 330/340 S281 Stage 2: "Supercharged" -- 435/425 S281 Stage 3: "Extreme" -- 550/500 However, the Mustang only uses one V8 and we're counting on the Camaro having two from the factory. Therefore, I'm going to use the lower-end V8 for the Saleen version of our beloved 5th G…

At the GM show n' shine, they had a crew cab Silverado, grey exterior with grey two tone leather interior. The exterior was my least favourite configuration with its short short bed, smaller wheels, and full chrome front end. It's the interior that tells the story. Believe it or not, while the plastics in the Tahoe's interior are acceptable, the LT actually had more soft touch. It's a very classy evolution of GM's past themes in their fullsizers. I can say with a straight face that I like the "work truck" dash better.

Was driving the ol lady up to the airport (detriot metro) and was just crossing the MI/IN border on I-69 and came up behind a white SUV with some black tape in spots around it. No camo/bra's but they did have the "GMC" and "Yukon" logo's taped over. I actually recognized the rear tailights before I got up on it. So it was distinct. Thought it was a Tahoe at first until I passed it and saw the grill. I slowed down to let it pass back by me for another look (the g/f was getting pissed at me doing that LOL!). It looked good goind down the road. Looks visually wider than the current Yukon but is probably just an illusion. Proportions look great…

  82. In the parking lot at my work (near airport in Houston), I saw a bright red, brand new Impala SS rental. I knew it was a rental because of the bar codes on the back windows. I didn't realize GM was selling the V8 W bodies to the rental car companies. I also saw a GXP Grand Prix with the V8 as a rental too not to long ago. Pretty cool actually. I wonder if the average Joe renting one of those is completely shocked when the press the gas down and realize (or maybe not realize) that they're driving a car that can easily run with a $40,000 IS350?

You can count cutlines and worry about the material five inches under the seat all you'd like, but the look and functionality is far superior to the doofy Toyota and lousy Honda interfaces. Plus, nothing looks more ridiculous than the Accord's gearshift indicator. Like a playtoy. Malibu hybrids were at both shows, but the Tampa show had an interesting variation...
