Cadillac
Cadillac, founded in 1902 in Detroit, quickly gained a reputation for precision and innovation, becoming a leader in American luxury vehicles. Acquired by General Motors in 1909, it set standards with iconic models like the Eldorado and DeVille. Though it faced challenges in the modern era, Cadillac has reinvented itself with bold design and a shift toward electric vehicles, now leading GM’s luxury EV efforts with models like the Lyriq and Celestiq.

Spy Shots: ’08 Cadillac STS A slimmer face for a sleek Euro beater. by KGP Photography (2006-03-23) The Cadillac STS has a facelift in the works, likely for the 2008 model year. The big four-door gets a new, Escalade-inspired grille treatment, with a more detailed chrome treatment and a subdued mesh grille. The STS's new face looks much lighter and more expressive than the current model's - a subtle but effective update. New taillights ditch the full red lenses, in favor of styled LED lamps that complement the STS's chiseled lines. The clear lenses have only a sliver of red reflector at the inside edges, but separate vertical LED strips glow red (braking) or orange (tu…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 17, 2012 We last saw a next-generation CTS mule running around the frozen tundras of Canada undergoing some cold-winter testing back in February. Fast forward two months and two CTS mules are roaming the streets in a new set of spy shots. As we reported back in February, the new CTS will use an extended version of the "Alpha" platform to help it better compete with the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and Audi A6. On this test mule, you can make out a large grill with two bold bars, projector headlamps with LED daytime runners, lots of radar sensors, and dual exhaust tips around the back. The engine lineu…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 6, 2012 Some new spy shots have come in today showing a camouflaged Cadillac ELR doing some hot-weather testing somewhere in the Southwest U.S. Despite GM's best efforts to cover-up the ELR mule, you can easily tell the three-bar grille and corporate crest visible on all Cadillacs. The overall shape is similar to the Converj concept shown back in 2009. The ELR is expected to come with the Voltec powertrain from Volt. Expect the ELR to have more power since it will weigh more than the Volt. A larger battery is also being talked. Source: Automobile Magazine William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gear…

Since Cadillac has brought in Johan de Nysschen as its new president, the decisions made by him - such as the CT/XT nomenclature and moving some of their staff to New York - have caused many to experience a range of emotions from happiness to outrage. So we don't know how many people are going to feel about de Nysschen's thoughts about Cadillac in the future that he talked with a couple of outlets at the LA Auto Show. First up is Reuters who reports that that de Nysschen sees Cadillac selling a $250,000 luxury sedan, but not anytime soon. "It is too early today for a $250,000 Cadillac. Fifteen years from now, it won't be," said de Nysschen. Next up is Car and Driver wh…

The 2016 Cadillac CTS-V is taking the German opposition with 640 horsepower coming from a supercharged 6.2L V8. But Automobile magazine is reporting that a more powerful version is coming. “The Cold War continues. I don’t know where it stops, but it’s not at 640 hp, that’s for sure,” said a source. Now the current CTS-V outguns the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E63 by about 80 horsepower. But Cadillac believes the V8 is capable of producing more power. We'll be keeping an close eye on this story. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 12, 2012 The smallest Cadillac currently is the new ATS sedan. But that could be changing. “The (compact) ATS sedan is not as small as we could go at Cadillac,” says Dave Leone, vehicle-line executive for the ATS. “The ATS is only the first entry. The ATS platform is scalable, so we could go smaller or larger.” The ATS is 7.7 inches shorter than the CTS, but the platform could be scaled down even further, possibly spawing a competitor to the BMW 1-Series, Audi A3, and Mercedes A-Class. Leone went onto to say, a smaller ATS would “a legitimate entry in the largest segment in the industry, the small, entry-le…

A three-ton, $54,000 mullet. BY DAVE VANDERWERP, PHOTOGRAPHY BY JEFFREY G. RUSSELL November 2006 Who would have predicted that this gratuitous union of a Chevy Avalanche with a Cadillac Escalade would have survived long enough to see a redesign? Certainly not us. When we first drove Cadillac’s pickup truck, we thought it made about as much sense as “an office desk that converts into a Hovercraft” or “mint-flavored Drano.” That was no skin off Cadillac’s nose, which found more than 40,000 takers from 2002 through 2005, apparently a sufficient number to justify a makeover similar to that of the Escalade SUV for 2007. This includes the 6.2-liter V-8 and six-speed a…

http://www.motortrend.com/news/comparison-audi-s6-4-0t-quattro-vs-cadillac-cts-v-sport-vs-lexus-gs-f/ To sum up, the Cadillac won very well, and it stood the test of time. Mainly, it was about delivering a solid blend of luxury and performance. And the Cadillac did it all, at a great price. I think that's what is great about the win. The Merecedes E Class was excluded because it's due to be replaced and the 5 Series didn't represent Europe as well as the A6. I think it shows maturity with design, that it can hold up after a few years pass by and the competitors try to catch up. A great win for the home team!

[source: Motor Authority] Cadillac tops brand satisfaction survey for the second year running In today's competitive market building reliable cars that customers are satisfied with is the key to improving sales and maintaining market share. Okay so I was watching GMtv, the drivetime show. It was their Sept. 22nd episode and during an interview with one of the GM employees, I noticed a picture behind her of what appeared to be some type of Cadillac. I went on cadillac.com and it doesnt look like anything there. Furthermore, it looks somewhat like a truck. Hmm.......well take a look for yourselves. It is on the left side of the lady's head. Also, I had to take a digital photo of the computer screen, because screen shots wont work with movies or something. Finally, I know this is probably not it, but it is worth a shot in any case. Who knows.

I was watching CSI Miami today on OnDemand and they play two '08 CTS ads. The first one's tag line is "You can either be the nail that sticks out.... or you can be the hammer." but the best one goes "In the luxury car game, it no longer about if your car has a 40 gigabyte hard drive, it's not about pop up navigation screens, it's not about ultra-view sunroofs, or Zexxxxx wood trim..... The question is... when you turn your car on... does it return the favor?" Then the hot woman behind the wheel gives a smirk and raises her eyebrow. Run' em everywhere GM

Back in December, we reported that the Cadillac ATS sedan would be no more for the 2019 model year via a General Motors VIN Decoder document. Only the coupe would stick around. Cadillac declined to comment at the time. Yesterday, new evidence to the sedan's departure came to light via GM's fleet order guide. The Truth About Cars tried to get a comment from Cadillac about this new information, but wasn't able to. That changed this morning. “This year will bring forth significant changes to our product portfolio, most notably with the introduction of the all-new XT4 SUV as well as concluding the successful lifecycle of the ATS Sedan in North America. The wreath-less Cadillac badge that debut on the ATS Coupe will soon be appearing on the 2015 ATS Sedan. That's not the only change in store for the ATS sedan for the 2015 model year though. Along with the badge, the 2015 ATS sedan gets some revised sheetmetal in the front to better match the ATS Coupe. On the tech front, the 2015 ATS sedan will get 4G LTE connectivity, text message alert, and a Powermat wireless phone charging dock. Power-wise, the turbo 2.0L four sees an increase of 14 percent for torque. Numbers now stand at 272 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The 2.5 four and 3.6L V6 carry over into 2015. General Motors has plans to import a second vehicle from China to the U.S. It's not another Buick, but the new Cadillac CT6 Plug-In Hybrid. Bloomberg spoke with Cadillac’s chief marketing officer, Uwe Ellinghaus who revealed that the plug-in version would only be built in China. The standard CT6 would be built in the U.S. Why build the CT6 Plug-In Hybrid in China? GM believes with government incentives that encourage people and businesses to buy plug-in hybrids, the market for CT6 Plug-In Hybrid will be much higher. “That will be the largest market for electrified vehicles. The next generation of fuel-economy rules in China will be quite stringent at the end of th…

The brand's average transaction price has risen 25 percent in the last five years to $54,488 per vehicle sold in 2017 — making it among the best in the luxury segment, which last year averaged $48,752, according to J.D. Power and Associates. Cadillac's pricing gains reflect in part a smaller volume base, coming amid a 14 percent decline in U.S. sales since 2013. Still, they offer some validation for the strategy espoused by brand President Johan de Nysschen, who has been steadfast in stressing the brand's global long-term health over near-term volume and market share gains in the U.S. A big element of that strategy is Project Pinnacle, a retail program intended …

We've been wondering what the interior will look like. Well the spy gods have heard our cries and photos of the ELR's interior have come out. Not a surprise in the Interior shots is the appearance of Cadillac's CUE Infortainment system and the steering wheel from the XTS and ATS. What is a surprise is the instrument cluster. Much like the Volt, this ELR mule uses a screen to display pertinent information. The layout mimics the Lexus LF-A supercar with a analog gauge sitting in the middle …

Slow Caddys in Europe Brand cuts sales goals following weak sales By WIM OUDE WEERNINK | Link to Original Article @ AutoWeek | Published 07/23/07, 5:05 pm et General Motors will sell fewer Cadillacs than expected in Europe by 2010. "We have reduced our sales targets for Cadillac in Europe to 10,000 units short term and eventually 15,000," GM Europe President Carl-Peter Forster told Automotive News Europe. In 2003, GM gave the Dutch dealer group Kroymans the exclusive Cadillac distribution rights for Europe. At that time, GM's sales target for the brand was 20,000 units by 2010. But sales have been weak - despite the addition of the BLS sedan, which was derived fr…

I was on the U.S. Patent and Trademark website earlier ( http://www.uspto.gov ) and after Search Trademarks----->Advanced Search-----> and "GENERAL and MOTORS and CORPORATION and AUTOMOBILES", I saw AT1, BT3, CT6, DT7, and the like newly trademarked. I'm starting to think about the number portions here, being that these tentative new Caddys look like they'll finally be readjusted to take BMW head-on, and my theory is as follows: AT1-1-Series rival, thus the smallest (possibly most hated, at least among diehard traditionalists) Standard of the World! BT3-3-Series rival, probably sized more accordingly than CTS, which would be.... CT5-Current CTS and gang, already …

Perhaps GM figures their enthusiast customers will order their Cadillac XTS(?) with an upcoming DOHC V12? Did they discover a way to bring one of their pushrod V8s noise, vibration and harshness levels down to where the next Northstar would have been? If so will this be offered as the base motor for the XTS or will it be the DI V6? If the V6 is the base motor and they do introduce a V12 will they offer a LS V8? Will the V12 with Active Fuel Management get close enough to a V8's fuel economy to make offering it wasteful? What do you guys think?

This is simply an idea I got from the Audi A7 spyshots (CLS fighter) and is not based on any information about the NG STS itself. This is simply a proposal I would make if I worked within GM. Anyways... Why not make the STS a CLS/A7 "4-door coupe" type vehicle? The next CTS is growing and moving upscale, which would tell me that with a mid-level (non V-Series) V8, it would be a formidable 5-Series and E-Class, etc., competitor. Now, that is the market segment the current STS competes in, and I don't see a need for Cadillac to compete with two cars in one market segment. The BLS will be coming to fill the lower-end of the market that the CTS will be leaving, but that d…

General Motors’ prestige luxury brand, Cadillac, is in the process of a well-known transformation, laying down a solid foundation for growth well into the future. And despite declining sales volume, Cadillac is reaping (some of) the fruits from its labor by seeing an increase in average transaction prices. The average transaction price (ATP) for Cadillacs sold in June in the U.S. market topped $52,000, a $7,000 — or 15 percent — increase over the same period a year ago. The brand attributes the increase to ongoing product enhancements that are “transforming the brand and elevating its position in the luxury marketplace”. “Our goals are to improve the quality of the busi…

The entry-level luxury class could be getting a model from Cadillac. Dave Leone, Cadillac executive chief engineer said in an interview with Road & Track that they are developing a new sedan to sit under ATS. "We are working on something below ATS," said Leone. Leone didn't go into further details about the vehicle but did say "one of our strengths in sedans is that we are known for being rear-wheel drive." Road & Track speculates the new sedan will use the Alpha rear-drive platform. This gives a Cadillac an edge as all of the entry-level luxury sedans are front-wheel drive based. But using Alpha introduces a big problem. As we have noted in our tw…

We'll start with the current generation CTS Coupe and Wagon. These two models will likely stick around for one more year and be built alongside the new CTS. After this, both models will be shown the door. Don't expect a next-gen CTS Wagon to appear though. Sales of the CTS Wagon were only 7% of sales last year (about 3500 wagons) and the brand just doesn't see a reason to do another one. (Quick sidebar: out of those 3500 CTS Wagons, 1 out of every 3 were the V model.) As for the CTS Coupe, that'…

Automakers try their hardest to keep new models under wraps for the longest time to keep the prying eyes of competitors and the media. But Cadillac is trying something a bit different. According to Automotive News, Cadillac will be revealing new vehicles about six or seven months ahead from the start of production. Currently, Cadillac reveals new vehicles about two to three months ahead. Why are they doing this? This is part of a push by Cadillac to work on improving the quality of new vehicles. Covering vehicles with camouflage hinders testing of aerodynamics and cooling systems in the real world. "If we want to achieve different results, we also have to be wil…

Posted 10/5/2005 7:09 PM Satellite television for vehicles a growing fad USA Today article By Dee-Ann Durbin, The Associated Press DETROIT — As their average commute time rises, Americans are making their vehicles increasingly homelike, with cushy seats, multiple zones of climate control and DVD players. So it's no surprise that the next big thing in vehicle accessories is satellite television. "People want the same entertainment and services they have at home in their car," said Chris Watson, a spokesman for Rhode Island-based KVH Industries Inc., which first introduced satellite TV in vehicles two years ago. "It really is becoming an extension of the l…

The past year has seen autonomous vehicles making headlines with a number of technology companies such as Google and Apple working on their own vehicles. But Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen says autonomous vehicles shouldn't take away the act of driving to those who enjoy it. “Autonomous driving and driving passion must co-exist,” de Nysschen said to a group at the 10th annual J.D Power Automotive Marketing Roundtable in Las Vegas last week. “We’re after balance.” Standing in front of a picture of Google's autonomous prototype, de Nysschen said, “Many autonomous car (prototypes) emphasize sheer functionality. It would be a mind-numbing experience going from poi…

A recent report from Automotive News says Cadillac is thinking about adding more engines choices to the the Escalade. David Schiavone, the Escalade's brand manager says a twin-turbo V6 and turbodiesel V6 are being talked about for the model. The twin-turbo V6 could be marketed as a VSport model. Not only would the additional engines give Cadillac an edge over the new Lincoln Navigator which trades in a V8 for an EcoBoost V6, it would allow Cadillac to sell the Escalade in other markets. No mention when a decision would be made on the additional engines. Source: Automotive News (Subscription Required) William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears. He can be re…

IL Exclusive: 2007 Cadillac SRX to Get First Sport Model Date posted: 02-13-2006 DETROIT — Inside Line has learned that Cadillac is in the process of sprucing up its SRX lineup, adding a first-ever sport model that may hit showrooms as early as this fall. A Cadillac insider said the 2007 SRX sport model will be top-heavy on "appearance items," including 20-inch wheels and tires, a color-matched grille, and a list of new colors. An on-sale date and pricing have not yet been determined on the SRX sport model. The entire SRX lineup will get revamped with a new interior that is being described as "a pretty thorough change." The SRX — which competes with such vehicles as …

With all the talk of a new Saturn and Global RWD for most of GM's other divisions. Not much has been said about Cadillac's future. They've got a good line up now but they CANNOT afford to sit on their laurels. Are all of their replacement programs on Sigma still on track??? I just think it'd be a crying shame if GM began ignoring Cadillac again and the brand started regressing AGAIN.

According to the Cadillac website, the 3.0 and 3.6 engines get identical mileage (18/26) in AWD and RWD configurations (I find that slightly suspect), but offer slightly different power outputs. Can someone please enlighten me on what meaningful differences exist between these two engines? If fuel economy is the same, why would one choose one engine over the other?

Since "Dare Greatly" is the current ad campaign, I thought it would be a good idea for everyone to come up with one thing they dare Cadillac to do. It can be anything, it could be to put the Sixteen intro production, to make a pure EV Tesla fighter, a mid-engine supercar, to changing the naming scheme to introducing a new marketing campaign, or anything you want. But you only get 1 Dare, people can up vote their favorite idea.

Insideline Super Sedan Showdown Once you get your hands on a supercharged 556-horsepower 2009 Cadillac CTS-V, you know that you need a 500-hp 2008 BMW M5 with which to measure it. It's a matter of practical science. Of course, there's a sizable price difference between the $59,995 CTS-V and the $86,675 M5, and we don't want to get our comparison results skewed by mere money. Maybe we should add the 507-hp 2009 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG to our science project. Trouble is, this Merc's $86,875 price tag still doesn't put the CTS-V under any pressure. We had a better idea. We opted for the more nimble 2009 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. This compact sedan cranks out only 451 hp, …

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 16, 2012 Photo by Chris Doane Automotive, LLC - May not be used elsewhere without permission of photographer. The last time we saw spy photos of the 2013 Cadillac SRX, it was covered in camouflage and there was talk of a plug-in hybrid version. Fast forward to today and new spy shots show the 2013 SRX with no camouflage and no plug-in hybrid. Our spy shots show the SRX getting a modest update, with the front end getting a new grill and fascia. The SRX will also sport a new interior, with a capacitive-touch center stack, much like the one on the new XTS. And if you're wonder what happened to the plug-in hybr…

It WAS built to compete with the luxury intermediates (GS, M, 5-series, E-class, A6) I guess I was just emotionally taking up the CTS's cause as being the intermediate Caddy. But unfortunately an STS that's only five inches longer, yet cuts a bit of a similar presence to the M and the GS kinda steps on the CTS's toes in Cadillac's lineup. And them you have the BLS in Europe, further making the CTS look kinda weird. In basic, as far as the CTS goes, I'm left feeling like the name should basically be killed off in favor of a new rear-drive compact Caddy that can line up against the G, C-class, and dreaded 3-series. What also complicated matters for …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 13, 2013 We know that Cadillac is hard at work on an ATS-V, but no one has been able to nail down what will be under the hood of it. Reports say it could either be a twin-turbo V6, possibly the new TT 3.6 found in the CTS and XTS VSport, or a V8 engine. According to a new report from Automobile, the ATS-V will likely have a twin-turbo V6, but not the 3.6. The report says the twin-turbo V6 will be a 3.2L and will be capable of producing of more than 500 horsepower. This TT 3.2 V6 has a bit of interesting story to it. The engine is based on GMs’ High Feature V6 engine architecture which was supplied to Alfa Romeo …

http://www.motortrend.com/features/auto_ne...cadillac_cts_v/ According to Motor Trend, the next CTS-V will have a detuned version of the upcoming Corvette Blue Devil engine that will put out about 600 hp. Don't know how reliable this is, but if it's true, I'm starting to save my pennies. As pointed out, this will beat the pants off of any direct competitor and will even whip some a segment up. What I like most about this (other than the 600-hp part) is that GM used their "internal synergies" to do this at a lower cost. Which, also makes me think that other cars to get versions of this engine are the STS-V and XLR-V. After that, who knows? Maybe the engine will be used f…

Cadillac's president isn't planning to cut prices to reverse the trend of slumping sales for the brand. "We cannot deny the fact that we are leaving behind our traditional customer base. It will take several years before a sufficiently large part of the audience who until now have been concentrating on the German brands will find us in their consideration set," said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen in a interview with Automotive News. "Either you have to bring your volume aspirations into alignment with reality and accept that you will sell fewer cars. Or you have to drop the price and continue to transact at the prices where you were historically. I think the logic…

Late last week, the first spy shots of the next-generation Cadillac Escalade made their way onto the web. Much like the spy shots of the Chevrolet Suburban that came out back in May, we can't tell much about the exterior due to the heavy camouflage. There are certain details that can be made out such as Escala-like grille and the headlights moving horizontally. Like the new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, the Escalade and sister SUV models will utilize the T1XX platform. One of the key changes this platform brings is an independent rear suspension, something we first saw in the Suburban spy shots. The 6.2L V8 with 420 horsepower is expected to continue into the n…

[source: Motortrend] Comparison: 2009 BMW M5 vs 2009 Cadillac CTS-V Mirror, Mirror: The $89,325 Munich Benchmark vs. the $60,700 Motown Doppelganger. Which is the Fairest Supersedan of Them All? FIRST PLACE: Cadillac CTS-V Glitzy exterior and cabin plus some finish issues detract from premium feel, but delivers where it counts. A Corvette ZR1 in four-door attire -- and a bargain to boot. SECOND PLACE: BMW M5 Masterfully executed, but priced accordingly. Handling not on par with BMW's best, though, and V-10 power no match for Caddy's supercharged V-8.

Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen has a problem with the brand's dealers, specifically how many there are. According to data gathered by Autodata Corp and The Detroit News, Cadillac currently has 928 dealers in the U.S. A large number when compared to competitors in the luxury class such as Audi (281 dealers) and Mercedes-Benz (364). Factor in total sales for year and Cadillac finishes last with each dealer selling an average of 184 vehicles (170,750 vehicles sold for the year). This pales in comparison with the likes of Audi (648 vehicles sold last year per dealer) and Mercedes-Benz (978 vehicles sold last year per dealer). "With our very large dealer network … we so…

I was on a bit of a roadtrip yesterday with a friend, covering 500 kilometers in 8 hours. We visited some of the surrounding lakes and towns to the east of Toronto. On the way back, I dropped in on Oshawa, and to no surprise they had some hot cars by the factory. My camera battery was almost dead, and after these pics it shut of, so they came out looking crappy. I have to say though, the new CTS is AMAZING on the street. Stunning surfaces. Looks like a million bucks! VIDEO:

Cadillac announced today that the XT5 - replacement for the SRX crossover - will be making its worldwide debut at the Dubai Motor Show in November. Following this, the new Cadillac crossover will head to the LA Auto Show for its North American debut. "The XT5 will be the cornerstone of a series of crossovers bearing the 'XT' designation," the automaker said in a statement. The XT5 has some big shoes to fill as the SRX was Cadillac's most popular model sold worldwide. Previous reports has the SRX using a 2.0T four-cylinder and 3.6L V6 for power, and being available with front or all-wheel drive. Source: Cadillac View full article

I'd love to be a product manager for Cadillac. IF they have the engineering resources, then they should definitely launch an assault with a wide range of vehicles off the stellar Sigma platform instead of the upcoming Zeta platform. Keep the Sigma platform exclusive to Cadillacs and use the Zeta platform for the mainstream brands (Holden, Chevy, Pontiac, & Buick). Instead of calling the CTS-based coupe, the CTC, they should call it the CSC for C-series Sport Coupe and CSW for C-series Sport Wagon. Do the same thing with the BLS-based coupe and call it the BSC for B-series Sport Coupe? How's that sound? Personally, I don't think a B-series range fits in with Cad…

An improved version of the 2016 Cadillac ELR plug-in hybrid is in the works, Cadillac spokesman David Caldwell confirmed for Edmunds on Monday. The 2016 ELR is expected to debut in November at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. Changes include "engineering enhancements," Caldwell said. He would not provide details on the changes. Car shoppers should expect to see the revised ELR, which was all-new for the 2014 model year, at dealerships in the first half of next year. The changes are designed to make the ELR more competitive against a growing list of rivals, including the BMW i3, Porsche Panamera SE Hybrid and Tesla Model S. The ELR is a premium version of the Chevrolet V…

Checked out a real live XTS at a d'ship today. It was locked and had a 21 day on it, I assume it was left on the lot over the weekend to show off. Here is my impression on the design in the real world. Very nice. There is some subtle complexities to the shape and details on this vehicle that come together in person. It is amazing how narrow the car is in actuality, and how tiny the ass end looks from seeing it directly behind. Overall there is really not any element of the exterior I dislike (aside from suggesting that the car looks narrow). It's an evolutionary look, nothing special, but it also has no hood and no deck and to evolve proportions in that regard, and…

Looked at my first CTS the other day and figured I'd post the pics I took, even though we've all seen hundreds of CTS pics by now. I'll say that it's quite sexy in person. Pictures do not do this car justice. However, the base model details really need to go away. The wheels are less than stellar and the black inserts in the fog light openings are horrible. They need an upgrade. The different headlights, however, I don't mind. I actually like the idea of differing headlights. Anyways, to the pics...
