alright so im sure everyone remembers the 2004 monte carlo intimidator i loved regardless of the bad taste it left in most enthusiasts mouths... well she has since departed the world of road-going cars upon getting into a fight with a tree... basically what happened was i was driving along a winding road in pennsylvania where i work at a summer camp... it had rained recently and the roads were slick... i came up on one nasty corner that could almost qualify as a hairpin which has next to no bank and a hill in the middle... long story short the rear end slid out on me, i fishtailed for about 50 feet then ran into a tree... everyone in the car was fine and walked away a lit…

Yes this is serious. These are my two favorite new cars out today, but I can only afford one (duh). Given I won't be in the market for one in a couple of years (or sooner if I get restless), I still need to keep myself amused. Yes, need. They will be my DD, keep in my I will have my trucks in case you guys ask about the practicality. Also, I'm 21 and single, if there's ANY time to have an impractical car it's NOW. Basically it's going to go like this: Pro's and Con's for each. Miata Pro's -Weight -Price -Cost of Insurence -MPG's -Better Driver's car -DAMN GOOD LOOKS -Roadster Miata Con's -Size (I fit, though some of my my friends won't) -S…

OK, as some of you know, I am going to be in my niece's wedding in Scotland in July 08. All the men in it have to wear kilts, much to my dismay. Because it is so far away, I have to do my 1st kilt fitting tomorrow night, so the measurements can be sent back to Scotland so my kilt will be ready and waiting for me when I arrive. So tomorrow night I will be in Media, PA, being fitted for my dress/kilt. I guess you can tell I'm not into the spirit of the thing yet, nothing a few beers won't cure. :AH-HA_wink:

I sent an email to WAWA asking them to explain why their different WAWA gas stations charge different gasoline prices even though they are only a few miles apart. Yesterday in the US Mail, I recieved a prepaid WAWA card, good towards the purchase of 30 dollars of WAWA products or gasoline.

You know I have been thinking about a F-Body 2000-2002 with a V6 Coupe/T-Tops, I really would like a Firebird but found this Camaro at a only 6 grand with 59K! It is maroon (not first color choice my last actually because of my Cranberry SLE) and it has a fixed roof (great) and a stick (even better) and is priced good I think... Plus it is in Milwaukee and only 150 miles from my home. Plus I have family in that area as well... Hmm here is the car tell me what I should do... Keep in mind it would be my sons to drive to school and ours to play with on the weekends. My daughter would get the Impala then... Hmmm it is tempting but if it was white and had Pontiac on it, I prol…

Well after looking at, sitting in, driving cars for over a year I forced myself to go look at the 2013 KIA Forte before I bought. One 2013 to be found, but they did have a truckload 2014's. Looked at it, sat in it, drove it, bought it. 2014 Forte EX sedan 2.0L 173hp Auto trans (not ctv, or vti, or ggnp or any other unwanted odd ball trans) Silver over black With a few added options stickered at $20,790 Got free tint, and locking lug nuts (told them they could take that stuff off so they left it.) Got 2K in discounts This car caught me by surprise, lots of standard equipment, and I got an auto dimming mirror without having to buy a $2 or 3K package. This one happen…

Take off from the thread about Tesla fighting Michigan Dealership laws Tell your tale of dealership bad behavior or poor service. One experience that stands out in my mind - When cross-shopping the 2004 CTS, I visited a Chrysler dealership to look at a 300M (this was before the RWD 300C came out). I had a salesman that didn't know his product at all. He was trying to tell me that the 300M was engineered by Mercedes, and that it at a 3.5 liter supercharged engine. After our test drive, I popped the hood, got out, and made him point to the super charger on the engine. He pointed to the H.O. sticker on the cover and said that meant it was supercharged. After …

After you sue Ford, sue Pepsi, you bored, bored carmaker you. Microsoft should also sue GM for using OUTLOOK. I often confuse the two; when people at work say, "use Outlook" I tell them "its not out yet, but will be at NYIAS." They stare at me weird. Likewise, the atmosphere should sue GM for using SKY.

It's that time of year again, are any of you starting any new diet or fitness plans? I actually started a rather drastic cutback on calories before the Christmas holiday, cheating only on the Xmas day and New Years Eve. At 5'10" in height, 180lbs is the limit I let myself get to before I start actively dieting.... only this year, I went over that before the holiday and I have to fit in a suit next week. I normally run 165 - 170 lbs. I cut my calorie intake from 2500 - 3000 per day down to a strict 1500 per day. I've tried to make time to hit the gym, but it simply isn't happening right now. How about you... making any changes for the new year?

I'm starting to realize that in less than one month, my younger brother will be 16. Not only do I tremble at the thought of him driving... he wants a truck, no less. And not just any truck. He wants one that isn't low to the ground. Hide me. Haha. The day he gets his license and starts driving on his own, especially if he gets the sort of truck he wants, will be the day I move far far away from any roads he'd travel on. Anywho... While doing my usual dealer hopping, I did look at a few trucks for him. In Clarion there's 93 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 with a manual tranny for $2000. It's a single cab, short bed. Then theres like a 94, I think, Ford Ranger in Dubois for about $30…

According to Iran’s President, Mr. Ahmadinejad, homosexuality doesn’t exist in Iran – whatsoever. He’d also like more ‘substantial’ evidence that the holocaust occurred. It seems that the disappearance of millions of people isn’t enough to appease his warped perception of history. Ahmadinejad made both claims today at Columbia University, where his comments regarding homosexuality in Iran were met with open laughter. Glad I looked into this.

Pink Floyd certainly is a bizarre name for a band, isn't it? It is widely thought that the band is named after two American blues musicians, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. There is an alternate story that Syd Barrett got the name from a flying saucer, but then again, Syd Barrett was drugged out of his mind. However, I have recently discovered that the name Floyd means "the hollow." Ponder that for a moment.

Been a while since we did one of these. A lot of great vehicles had their last hurrah for the 2018 Model Year. From mainstream offerings, to exotics, many models had their demise. This thread will be dedicated to those. You can choose either cars that were discontinued entirely, had specific trim levels axed, or lost body styles. Rules- 1) Must be 2018 MY 2) Choices must be offered in your market 3) Production vehicles only 4) Choices must have been discontinued, replaced with new model, had a body style dropped, etc 5) Maximum of 5 choices 6) These are your only vehicles Have fun!

This is kinda of a interesting idea. I usually frown on even the thought of doing it, but due to some of the major sucesses I've seen ( friend-05 Sunfire/ Co-worker 03 Cavalier), it has my considering the idea myself.. Keep in mind, this is going to be the beater, not the main car. I want a nice, new car that I can baby. The only requirements is that is has air, a Cd player, and decently low miles... More than my rusty beater has now... So far I've nosed though the world of 03-05 cavaliers, due to the low price, decent on gas, and pretty easy to fix. So far I found a 03 LS sport w/ 52k for 5 grand, and 04 base sedan with 49k for 4500...both with repaire…

And now for something completely different… When you were 12 years old, "back to school" time was the worst. Summer fun was out and book reports were in. When you're several years out college, working a so-so job, you'd give anything to be heading back to campus. This fall, after an 8-year absence, I'm quitting my job (sort of) and going back to school. There won't be any 500-seat lecture halls at this school, however, because I'm going to flight school to become a helicopter pilot. Being a pilot is an idea that's been in the back of my head for a few years now. Anytime I had a bad week at work, I would occasionally tell people something like "To hell with this, I'm goi…

Does anybody know if Toyota in particulr is coming to the table with a cheaper RWD platform similar to Zeta or LX. I wonder the implications of a RWD V-8 Avalon to Detriot. Even more daring what about an answer to the Camaro and Mustang. It may be corny but, imagine a RWD Midsize Celica with a 3.5L 268hp V-6 and a 5.7L V-8 with 381hp from the new Tundra. Wow, this world is getting scary for a GM fan. Let's hope it take Toyota 20 years to catch this All-American Trend. Then, again they aren't exactly slow.

In a way, they probably tried to appease everybody and scatter them all over the U.S. The ones that don't interest me: (a) tourist towns on the California coast that you can't afford anyway (Monterey, Cambria), (b) ski resorts (Aspen), ( c ) towns which...ahem...attract people I can't relate to (Sedona, Santa Fe) The ones that interest me: (a) I stumbled into Burlington VT once (needed to get over to the US "side" from Montreal to make cell phone calls and go to Kinko's), beauti…

http://globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com/ In a veto proof margin, no doubt enhanced by election political pandering, the House passes bill to sue OPEC over oil prices. The House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved legislation on Tuesday allowing the Justice Department to sue OPEC members for limiting oil supplies and working together to set crude prices, but the White House threatened to veto the measure. The bill would subject OPEC oil producers, including Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela, to the same antitrust laws that U.S. companies must follow. The measure passed in a 324-84 vote, a big enough margin to override a presidential veto. The legislation a…

Even after a wonderful afternoon (Sunday, November 4) of driving my older 4 MCs, I was already a bit shaky when I pulled into the gas station, having just avoided a collision when another driver turned left directly in front of me at the intersection just before the gas station entrance. So, when I stepped out of my '87 MC LS and was promptly greeted by a stranger who seemingly appeared out of the thin air [i think he just walked there, I never did see him near a car], asking several detailed questions about my car, I began shaking a bit more. I was curious if something struck you guys about the new Subaru commercial... Its a 2009 Subaru at the junkyard and the guy visits it in his new 2010 Subaru... thinking "My Subaru saved my life"... He looks over the car... then unscrews the gear shifter to keep as a reminder. Of course, this is probably something most people don't consider, but since he has a new car, the insurance as most likely bought his old car... and at that point, the insurance company owns the whole car. Sure, you can remove personal belongings, but not car parts. Usually, you see these cars at the Pick-a-Parts with large stickers from the insurance companies pointing out that parts are not to be…

Shopping, cleaning, laundry, paying bills, going to the gym, going out to the bars...it's all become so repetitive and boring, I'm going a little crazy. Even the coming of spring just adds more home maintenance and yardwork into the mix. I try to shake things up to the extent I can, but being single I have to do everything myself. Getting the things done I have to do leaves me only a small amount of time for fun. All of my friends t…

1961 Pontiac Tempest Well, winter beater/daily driver. It's such a departure from the land barges I'm into, but I've been looking to get into something old for a daily driver and the little four-banger might be a fun alternative to having a modern gas sipper. Seems cheap for what it is if the description is accurate, too. Any thoughts?

My car has always had a small whine coming from the power steering which I had read was pretty normal with LS's and 90s-early 00s Fords in general, but the last couple days with the weather getting colder the faint whine has become a loud squeal and it sounds terrible. I have to go home this weekend which is a 500 mile round trip, so I'm thinking I probably don't want to risk the power steering pump going out on me with that many miles ahead. Right now the plan is to head to Lincoln Mercury tomorrow morning and see if they can diagnose for sure that it's the pump and if they have any in stock. If they can't get it done tomorrow, I'm probably going to be renting my firs…

Accused 147 mph speeder gets day in court By Mike Sakal, Tribune July 17, 2006 The Scottsdale speeding case that caught the attention of both car experts and photo enforcement critics moves into gear this week. Goodyear resident Lawrence Pargo, 26, pleaded not guilty following his May 21 drive on Loop 101 that city officials said reached speeds up to 147 mph. Some car enthusiasts doubted the accuracy of Scottsdale’s freeway photo enforcement program, saying Pargo’s rented 2006 Hyundai Sonata likely couldn’t go that fast. Pargo, who was charged with four counts of speeding, reckless driving and endangerment, is scheduled to appear in Scottsdale City Court at 2…

The Ferrari that crashed and burned Friday morning in north Fulton, critically injuring the two people inside, was a gift to the 18-year-old driver from has father. Channel 2 Action News reported that Akshay Panducherry, 18, of Alpharetta, who was burned over 80 percent of his body, was given the Italian sports car last week. His passenger, Harshavardhan Patlolla, 21, of Alpharetta was also critically injured. Alpharetta police spokesman George Gordon told the AJC that authorities initially got a call just before 4 a.m. about a possible brush fire on Webb Bridge Road near Alpharetta High School. “Unfortunately, when our police officers arrived on the scene, they disco…

Last week was my last goof-off trip of summer as I plan to move within the next month. Up in Canada, I had two rental cars...an Allure (LaCrosse) for a week followed by a Camry for a day. In the Allure and in all GM products, when the door locks are in the closed position, you cannot open the door from the inside. In the Camry (and I believe in Chrysler and Ford products), when the door locks are in the closed position, you still can open the door from the inside. Maybe I'm showing bias for GM (so what else is new), I think that the closed door lock should also mean one cannot open the door freely with the handle inside the car. I've never understood why Toyota …

Not important part (background): So I took this class this semester called Conceptual Ideation. Basically it's all about how to come up with good original ideas for art (which I could use the help in). For our first project, the teacher asked us to do a "redux" of something we failed at in the past. I chose to revisit the Aveo redesign I submitted for a C&G sketch competition a few years ago, which was undeniably very, very bad. My aim is to design a subcompact car that is typically practical and economical, but looks like it can beat every other subcompact to a pulp. The teacher was encouraging me to make something as wild and futuristic as I could imagine, b…

I see we recently had one of those so called "hypothetical situation" threads posted here in the Lounge, so I thought I would start one of my own. So, let's say you're tired of your daily driver. You know it's been reliable 80 percent of the time. You know it's a good car. However, you're also tired of the confusing fuel economy, the dying gas gauge, the puzzling glitches with the O2 sensors, the bugs that have bored their way into the ABS system (which caused you to skid into a ditch), the deteriorating paint and bodywork, and the styling which you keep losing your infatuation with every day. What do you replace that car with? The word "replace," in that sentence, mean…

In the "Who Will Be Where This Year?" thread where I mentioned where I'll be in 2008 and early 2009, I also asked 2 questions: "Where is your favorite area?" and "Where do you want to go in your lifetime?". I thought these might be better suited for a different topic; thus, this thread. But, a twist, on both questions: 1 ... Where is your favorite area in your HOME country (for most of us, the US)? 2 ... Where do you want to go in your HOME country (for most of us, the US) in your lifetime? For me ... the answers are easy: 1 ... Nashville/Jackson TN 2 ... Everywhere I haven't been already on one of my road trips, to see the sights and, of course, meet more p…

I just got back into the workout routine this semester, lifting weights and doing a couple laps around the track every other day. A buddy and I both keep a sheet where we record how many reps and the amount of weight each time, and it really shows you how much progress you've made. I used to go sometimes last year, but we didn't keep a record and after a while only started going once every week and just kinda fell out of it as things got busier. But seeing the improvements written down each week really gets you motivated to go each time and keeping lifting a little more. I've also noticed I feel a whole lot better physically when I'm in a regular routine.

So my Escalade rear tail gate would not open. Suspect the electronic switch failed. I wish they still had key access as I had to climb over to unload my stuff I had loaded into the Escalade yesterday when I got home. Took it in and they gave me a new 2014 CTS4 2.0T to drive. Initial reactions: Car is great in Touring mode, more responsive in Sport mode but also more noticeable turbo lag. Love the center stack with touch screen very intuitive and easy to use. Lower portion that opens and shows the hidden storage / charging bay was noisy. Surprised for a new auto with only 2500 miles on it. Rest of the leather, fit and finish was really nice. Enjoyed the Pad…

I've put it off for a while now, mainly because I couldn't come up with a design I liked (I'm on #3 now) and I can't think of a name. Originally it was going to be 1up Design...taken Then Forward Slash / Design...name's taken Hell, even my initials: CAC Design were taken. I have such a hard time coming up with names for things. The only 2 I've found so far not taken are: L33t Design eL33t Design What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

NEW YORK (AP) - "American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino reveals in her memoirs that she is functionally illiterate and had to fake her way through some scripted portions the televised talent show, which she won in 2004. "You're illiterate to just about everything. You don't want to misspell," Fantasia told ABC's "20/20.""So that, for me, kept me in a box and I didn't, wouldn't come out." The 21-year-old R&B singer says she's signed record deals and contracts that she didn't read and couldn't understand. But the hardest part, she said, is not being able to read to Zion, her 4-year-old daughter. …

This was a Christmas gift from my wife last year. See my "Bob" here: http://www.brookstone.com/store/product.asp?pid=532994

Been thinking that perhaps a new sort of isolationism might be a good thing for us right now. Not the old " let's ignore the rest of the world and use protectionism in our dealings with other countries" way. Just a strictly non-interventionist, and locally focused sort of way. The idea of what else defines this idea is still floating around in my head and not fully formed yet. But I see some logical reasons for it. Thoughts?

....I'll try to stick to the title. As most of you might have noticed I've been consciously staying away from most of the political threads, I agreed with O.B.s thread about how futile & damaging they are to the C&G community. but here's a quick thought. Sometimes things seem clearer at 4:00am I've been talking in length with a friend from UPS during our breaks, about the err of our two party system. And then this A.M., at about 4:00am it HIT me. You wanna know the TRUE reason WHY there is a TWO PARTY SYSTEM in the USA? Divide and conquer. While most reasonable, self respecting Americans agree about the important issues, or at least …
