I went to a screening of this movie last week. I know most people are going to dismiss it as the "gay cowboy movie", and if you can't get past one short sex scene (which doesn't show anything), you won't like it- but Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway have nude scenes (and are quite fine), so it's something for everyone. This is a movie that makes me glad that I still on occasion work with actors. Everyone involved gives incredible performances. I never thought I'd say this, but Heath Ledger should get an Oscar. It's a great movie.

All 2000 Intrepids are created equal, but some are more equal than others. This is a lesson in the importance of keeping your car clean, especially the undercarriage, especially during the winter. This is actually a neighbor's Intrepid. It's got 150k on it, 3.2. It came into the shop next door for the crank sensor and an idle pulley it desperately needs. While on the lift I took a peek at how it's holding up... That, my friends, would be carpet. That's a really big hole in the floor. Not good. Contrast with my car which has 209k on it and has seen its share of winters but gets washed religiously. I swear the stuff they are using on the roads in NE has gotte…

Today is my Regal's 16th birthday. This morning, it had 244,073 miles on the odometer (that's almost 400,000 kilometers!) In this period, other than stuff that normally wears out (belts, hoses, brakes, batteries), I've only fixed the following, in this order: - exhaust donut connecting manifold to tailpipe - water pump - alternator - thermostat by-pass - 2 front wheel bearing assemblies (different times) - tie rod ends - 2 sensors: O2 and knock (different times) That's it. I'll have to wax it soon. The 100 degree temps have arrived. I still like it but am not that attached to it. But it has been reliable (so folks, don't knock the W-body too hard).…

The Chevrolet/Cadillac dealer I work at is right up the street from a Wendy's. (you know, as in Dave Thomas) Money being very tight right now instead of taking my giant tank to a local joint for lunch I just walk over to the Wendy's & have lunch there, you know dollar menu and all. The other day I'm waiting to get my $4 worth of fast food when a middle aged couple (early 50s) approach the cashier. I notice that the guy is holding a brochure for a 2007 Tundra in his hand, along with some pricing info. written down on a crude worksheet. Usually I mind my own business.... well, sometimes... but I was feeling ballsy that day and so I look over at …

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/13862689/ Woman allegedly called 911 for ‘cutie’ deputy ALOHA, Ore. - A woman who called 911 to get "the cutest cop I've seen" sent back to her home got a date all right -- a court date. The same sheriff's deputy arrested her on charges of misuse of the emergency dispatch system. Washington County Sheriff's Sgt. David Thompson told KGW-TV of Portland it all started with a noise complaint called in last month by neighbors of Lorna Jeanne Dudash. The deputy sent to check on the complaint knocked on her door, then left. Thompson said Dudash then called 911, asking that the "cutie pie" deputy return. "He's the cutest cop I've seen in a long time.…

Shortly after Castro took over in 1959, the U.S. slapped a trade embargo on Cuba. That means the country has imported few cars in the past five decades. But ever-resourceful Cubans have managed to keep the same vehicles on the streets since the 1950s, making the country the world's biggest open-air car museum. I know a Pontiac when I see one!

Today, six were laid off from our firm of about 65 people. Nobody saw it coming and we were all in shock for most of the day. Our work load has been pretty full lately but six months down the road we will start slowing down very quickly since no new projects are coming in...schools, universities, and businesses are putting everything on hold. If things continue to worsen, we may have a second round of lay offs and that's what makes me nervous, because I'm young and still don't have much experience yet. The partners talked to us today in a conference and said that the lay offs are a precaution to ensure we will be profitable in 2009, even though our work load is pretty…

Is anyone here knowledgable on buying a car out of state? Alot of the vehicles I've been looking at have been in a state outside of PA. I haven't found much of anything locally. In all likelihood, I'm going to end up with something out of state unless I find a sudden streak of luck. Thusly, I was wondering what the process was for buying out of state and getting it registered here. Does it differ much from the usual registration process? Are there any extra steps that I will need to take?

I have finally bought myself a decent laptop. After advertising $500 off throughout this holiday season (and receiving some holiday cash), I decided to bite the bullet and buy a Lenovo Y400. For $750, I got a 3rd gen Intel Core i7, 8GB of ram, 1TB of hard drive, and a NVIDIA GeForce GT650M graphics card. It also has a few luxuries I was looking for such as a backlit keyboard, decent speakers (JBL... though, I've never been impressed with any laptop's built in sound, so we'll see), and a metal cover. Here's to hoping it meets all my needs and wants once it arrives. I can't imagine it wouldn't, besides the twisted functionality of Windows 8, anyways. If you consider that I'…

So its that time of year. I'm not a big hockey fan, but I've caught some of the playoffs, as a Chicago native its nice to see the Blackhawks playing decently. But on the NBA side, this has been amazing. If you guys haven't been paying attention, the Bulls and Celtics are playing probably the greatest 7-game series I've ever seen. 6 games, 7 overtime periods, amazing play by both teams. I cant wait for Game 7.

I figured with everything going on, this might be a good question to ask. I know quite a few people who normally buy new cars who haved just bought used cars (and an SUV). Has thst stuff going on changed your plans on what you planned to buy? Right now, it looks to be one new/one used. I really would like to upgrade the wife into something bigger (and to carry more of Zack's stuff), so a used Nox, Torrent or Liberty look like good choices..... As for me, A Cruze, Vibe (not sure why, as the wife no longer wants one), an Astra, and Mazda 3 (the new one) are on the current short list....

I had to go to a luncheon for continuing ed (it was free) and got a ride with one of my co-workers. He drives a 1986 BMW 635 coupe with 130,000 original miles. I got in it and was surprised at how noisy it was. Not only that, the transmission shifted with bumps at each shift point. The air vents were not particularly well placed and it didn't direct enough A/C to keep me comfortable. This was a high line BMW in its day? Come on. I was not impressed at all. Granted, a lot of it comes down to maintenance. I doubt my co-worker babies his car the way I do. By comparison, my newer but more heavily used Regal (227,000 miles) has a much quieter engine and a tranny wit…

I was out and about today and did a walk-about through some dealerships. Here are my impressions: 1. Nissan Skyline: as I was walking across street to the dealership, this car comes up to the stop sign looking like nothing more than a garden variety Nissan from the past. I glanced up and see someone in the 'passenger seat' and for a split second, thought, hell, there's no one driving that thing, no one in the 'driver's seat'. I had to chuckle, it was a right-hand driver, probably imported from Japan directly. I then realized it was a Skyline. 2. Pontiac G6 Coupe: it is very slick in person, but man, I am finding it hard to get used to tha…

C&G: I'm wondering people's thoughts/opinions on what new technology or features they would like to see integrated into future vehicles. For example, iPod/AuxIn features are hot now. Nav systems were a few years ago. So what is next, Tivo's, etc? Edit: I'd like to keep the ideas centered around integration of new electronics or "creature features". Any ideas for expanding OnStar? Radio display screen customizations? Input like that.... Let me know, thanks! p.s. It's for a class project ...

Recently have become mildly obsessed with the twilight era for vintage junkyards, which is happening right now. I have developed a small cyber toolbox (GoogleMaps, GlobeXplorer, MapQuest, Switchboard) to gather before & after aerial pics of junkyards across the U.S. Mostly this is to document where they were and their size, but it's also useful to today's scroungers to assess whether a given sight-unseen yard today looks worth the trip. I have gotten adept at recognizing ex-yards from space. Many times these automotive DisneyWorlds disappear when one's back it turned, leaving but a faint scar on the landscape. I've been in about 15 different yards over the years- I …

Saturday, I cleaned up the Cobalt to take some pictures. As I was driving around town, I noticed another Cobalt behind me, driving a bit aggressively. I came to a red light, and it pulled up next to me. I took a quick glance, it was a Blue Granite LT four door with a young Latin driver, windows down, sunroof open, blasting his music. I sat quietly, eyes locked on the traffic light. When it turned green, I laid a major patch of rubber and caught second gear. Next red light, I'm in the turning lane, he pulls up next to me, salutes, grins and says "all stock?" I said (a bit amused) "yeah". He looked at my clean green car with the new rims and said "beeeautiful..." I…

Oops... I sort of forgot about this place until Drew sparked my memory. So yeah, I suppose an update is in order for those who don't follow me on Facebook. After Detroit, the $h! sort of hit the fan for my life. Finances became tight as I sought to pay down my debts (a.k.a. reduce the amount owned on my Avalon due to its not-so-sterling depreciation) and suddenly my job turned into a living hell. I managed to put up with it until the middle of summer when I finally had enough and quit. Needless to say, the experience has soured my views on ever working in a pharmacy again. This morning my father passed away rather suddenly. He was 64. Last Friday he had a massive heart attack. His heart stopped beating for 21 minutes before the paramedics revived him. Unfortunately, his brain activity was minimal. We pulled the ventilator on Sunday, and he died early this morning. As tragic as this is, its a realization that I should have told him I loved him more. I never got to thank him for instilling in me my love for cars, the outdoors, and life. I also realize that I am now the eldest in the family and the next to go. I realize that grandfatherhood is coming sooner than I would like. I have always felt young, but I realize that its only a …

The have different requirements and spending limits. Mom: Her spending limit depends on what she gets when the claim is settled, but most likely $1,000-$1,200 is her limit. We do appreciate the utility of teh van (I want us to get another), so Chrysler vans are on list for sure. Other vans might be considered. However I think she wants to downsize some. Alright, the old Lumina is getting long in the tooth (210,000) and it is time to start looking for a new ride. I have been looking at the LaCrosse as a potential replacement. I really like the 3.8 for the balance of gas economy and power. I will use this car for my daily driver and I average 200 miles a day for work. Does anyone here own one or have any experiences with the LaCrosse? I was looking at the CXL trim level and will most likely buy one that is off lease <30,000 miles.

It's something I'm thinking about obtaining. I know the market isn't exactly booming and bustling, but maybe there's still decent money in it. I need to do something during much more productive than doing odd jobs and failing at finding full-time work during this period of "downtime" I'm having while I figure out what course of action I should take during college. Perhaps a local firm will hire me and give me a decent salary plus commission. I can't wait for the backlash to hit on political correctness, but I don't think it's coming anytime soon. I tend NOT to be politically correct. It's a form of censorship. Europeans, for example, are nowhere near as politically correct. They stereotype their "neighbors" all the time. South Americans...they are even worse in this regard. I will say that I am diplomatic around clients and there are some that are fairly casual so you can be the same way - heck, some of our clients are salt-of-the-earth builders. At work, I tend to hang around people with whom I don't have to be politically correct. Socially, I prefer to be around people with whom I don't have to w…

Okay, got a new one of these that will hopefully see more players than the LeMans one. The concept is simple. You will choose NEW vehicles to serve as the basis for a very heavy build. We usually pick vehicles we think are pretty much spot-on in stock form, but this one gives you the opportunity to maybe pick something that you feel is missing from the OEM. Rules- 1) Vehicles must be brand new 2017 or 2018 MY, with all specs, photos, and details released. So no '18 Wranglers. 2) Maximum of 5 vehicles. 3) Any market is allowed. 4) All of your choices must be heavily modified. I shouldn't have to tell you what this means. Bolt-ons and wheels is not…

So I am tooling to work in my Tahoe and suddenly realized a startling fact - out of the 10 cars that were around me on a three lane highway - me and a Pontiac GP were the lone GM cars!!! 2 out of 10! Toyotas were everywhere - including a new white Turdra Doublecab! This is the heartland, and for this many Toyota's on the road in this area it just makes me sad. It doesn't help that the big GM dealers in this area are owned by the same company and they are all A-holes to deal with...but I hate to see this many Japanese cars here in what was a GM stronghold. Anyone else out there having the same problem?

The way I see it, you are never really free when someone has you by the financial short hairs. I would like to be able to live wthout the burden of monthly payments needing to be paid no matter what unforseen cicumstances arise. Without that burden, any temporary crisis is just that: temporary. But, once you miss any m…

If you can see my sig, you can see that my Myspace has been up and running. I obviously, like with C&G, don't keep anything a secret on there. Heh, well, I was expecting... even somewhat wanting it to been seen, just not what I found out today. As I already knew, my cousin found out about my homosexuality by seeing my myspace. She was cool with it, as I thought she would be. Well... she has a big mouth, heh. She told her mom, her mom told her brother, and he told our grandma. Now, that wasn't that big of shock... it was hearing about it from my mom. First of all, I hear that my grandma already knew. As did two other aunts of mine and... unexpectedly, my dad. So, my mo…

So...at work... Get a case of 1000 Watt lamps to fix some 40' tall pole lights in a parking lot...lamps are Chinese in origin. These are an extreme PITA to change, as there is a 138,000 volt high voltage set of lines that run right near the pole lights...you have to position the bucket truck just right to maintain OSHA safe clearance. And of course...no more than get them installed and they go bad. So I need to go back before I leave and replace lamps (bulbs) less than two hours old with new ones. Thankfully, I have American made lamps in the truck and they work perfectly. Then I go to the vendor to buy more American made lamps...and find that MFR. has now outsource…

i brought home another nova! a deal i couldnt refuse... My friend was planning on building this as a strip car, but bought a more complete car... so i scooped this up.. i originally wanted hust the rear end housing, but for the i bought the car for less... Well so far, ive found a multitude of parts im stripping off for my nova, including the rear suspension (8.5 rear to replace my 8.2), really beefy subframe connectors, quarter window regulators, some headliner trim and possibly the steering box... everything else is being posted on craigslist/Nova forums... and im giddy as a mother f@#ker to start ripping this thing apart... so, i got a whole bunch of parts, my mom…

My dad is considering getting a third a car for all of us to run. With the Sunfire still having problems, my Millenia being impossible to diagnose, and my brother needing a car to pratice driving with... It would really be nice. He found a goldish 1999 Oldsmobile Alero GL coupe with 73k that he may get. Signed papers for it, but can back out if needed. Not sure of the price as he didn't really specify. Should atleast be better than the Sunfire, but then, what wouldn't be?

...instead, like 2 cars of mine previously, being parked was what got my '87 MC LS hit. [My former "Silver Bullet" '88 MC LS was backed into on the street in front of our house; my former "Green Hornet" '00 LS was hit in the parking lot outside of the HardRock Cafe in downtown Nashville ... both with NO note left.] *sighs* I took my usual walk about 11 this morning. As I head back to the building, I pass by where my car is parked. This morning, I noticed that the license plate didn't look quite right. I walked closer ... and found a note tucked under the driver's side windshield wiper. Arg. Apparently, a gal backed into my '87 MC LS as she was leaving earlier in t…

I'm starting a new 'UDG' series that will have consecutive installments. As you can tell, it will be based on that measure of energy we love so much- horsepowerz. BHP. Ponies. Whatever nickname you like to use, it's a metric that has been used pretty much since the inception of the automobile. This round we are focusing on the little guys. Though they may not have have cover-worth big power ratings, there are no shortage of cars that are great to drive that have below 200HP. In fact, there are some All-time Greats that fall into this category. Rules- 1) Maximum of 5 choices. 2) These are your only vehicles. 3) Production cars only. 4) Any er…

Nissan Motor,Japan's third-biggest automaker,is preparing to produce fuel effcient small vehicles for Chrysler, taking a different route to enhance its presence in the American market despite concern about a slowdown. The two auto firms are in the final stages of negotiation on a deal for Nissan to supply Chrysler with small cars models with an engine displacement of around 1.8 liters,Japanese broadcaster NHK reported on Thursday. The pact is expected to boost Nissan's sales in the U.S market, and to help Chrysler make a turnaround from its recent weakness, attributed in part to an overdependence on light truck sales, the report said.A Nissan spokeswoman confirmed the …

I'm sure there are a lot of you out in C&G land who own one of these systems, and have maybe even played all of them. I'm not a real serious gamer anymore, but I would like to get back into the scene. The Wii's price and ability to play old Nintendo games is definitely a plus, but the graphics aren't even in the same ball park as the others. With a big HDTV to play on, it seems like almost a waste to not go HD. The Wii just looks like a lot of fun. The PS3 is a lot more expensive but has Bluray, which makes it justifiable. I have never played one though, so I can't compare it to the 360. From what I have played the 360, it is impressive, and the price is a l…

So, has anyone attended the AACA Eastern Region Fall Meet this week, or planning to head that way tomorrow? As of now I have all intentions of going there tomorrow morning. This will be my 21st year attending the show (rain, sleet, snow, not even MUD <anyone remember those days?> can stop me ). I will be sure to post a reply on my observations of this year's event afterwards. BTW, here's the link for the 2009 aerial shot of the event: http://www.hersheyaaca.org/images/arialphotos/2009.pdf

Got boned for $1,000. The rear right tire of the BMW had a small leak so I took it to Discount Tires. While inspecting the tires, the store personnel saw a 12-inch gash in the interior wall of the front left tire going into the steel reinforcement. I have no idea how that happened. The Bridgestone run flat that came with the car was $389 per tire, and the GoodYear F1 All Season was $201 per tire, so I decided to replace both fronts since, I hated the ride of the run flats anyways. Plus GoodYears come with 25,000 miles warranty. Yay for Z-rated tires I guess! I went for lunch while they replaced the front tires and fixed the rear right. The guy calls me saying you need t…

So I went out to the dealers tonight to see what new models they had and took some pics of them. Unfortunately the lighting is always really bright at car dealerships at night so some of the pics turned out bad because of it, so I apologize for the poor quality of some of the pics (I actually deleted probably half of them because some were so bad). Anyways, first up was the G6 coupe. It looked better than I was expecting, and I actually quite liked the rear. The rearseat legroom looked very good for a coupe, and the interior looked much better with the new steering wheel. I think a GTP with the 18s would be quite a looker. Here is perhaps my favorite pic, I wasn…

What is your car music guilty pleasure? We all have our car music, the stuff that really gets us into the drive. But what is the car music that you love that you... really wouldn't admit to? The stuff that doesn't fit your personality or your car's personality..... This idea came to me as I was driving to work this morning in the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze Eco wearing french cuffs, cufflinks, and a pink "Cancer Sucks" bracelet in support of a family member while enjoying.... Marylin Manson - Lest We Forget. Great music for an urban morning commute and for those of you who know me well enough... completely outside of my personality. So what is your car music guilty pleasur…

We all have regrets - in fact I think regret should be a four letter word - but I digress back to my original post about the one that got away. We all have been there, a car that to you was either a pain in the ass, no longer willing to dump money into it so you sell it cheap - or worse - junked it! I am talking about the abused of the abused, the downtrodden, and the cars that we did not appreciate at the time, but wish we had them now. Maybe it was a car you never got to drive or own, but saw it slip away because it needed more than you were willing to give or did not have the money to own/fix. For me, it was a lovely 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 in Apollo white that…

As some of you may know I posted a thread recently about the Riviera needing a transmission. The the day I got the car back the water pump went and ripped my belt to pieces. The grand total was roughly $3800. Now Monday night while driving on the interstate going about 65MPH my car shuts off. I coast to the shoulder and wait 2 and a half hours for a tow truck. Have the car towed 14 miles with my friend's AAA, and still pay $90 for the tow, and now for the good news. I just got a call from the shop telling me I need a engine. The car makes a very loud knocking noise and keeps shutting off. So now he's gonna get some quotes on an engine. I'm sitting here in absolute…

Post what your own personal automotive Holy Grail is here; include pictures and a background story if you'd like I would recommend that you post no more than one vehicle per catergory... so that would mean one holy grail car/CUV/Minivan, one holy grail truck/SUV, one holy grail motorcycle, one holy grail airplane, etc. (you get the point )

NOTES 1 ... This is a "woa, can ya believe so many years have past since...?" topic/thread. 2 ... I'm not even sure exactly WHY I'm sharing this, but maybe we'll find out.... Every now and then, an anniversary will hit, and, when you realize just how many years have gone by and what all has happened since that event, you pause for a moment ... and wonder just where has the time gone. Such is the case for me, December 27, 2007; because, 20 years ago, December 27, 1987, my original/then best friend, Josh, died of a severe asthma attack. It was a shock to me ... a shy guy who had FEW friends and was so NOT popular. Of course, as it most-often does, time has eased t…

Hey guys. After receiving several steep tickets in the past couple years for speeding... a few of them where I was lucky to have gotten away with being radared at like 95mph since I had been doing 100+ I've broken down and bought the Phazer. I do not trust radar detectors since I've heard too many storiess of them giving NO warning at all. NOw i'm kicking myself since the archives are gone and I had not given so much as a glance at the Radar detector thread. Anyone else own a Phazer? I've got my plugged in and since I do not own a radar/laser gun I can't verify it's effectiveness. What's the word on these things? Do they really scramble the si…

While I was getting out of my truck at work, this lady said the strangest two sentences. Now apart they really aren't strange at all but put back to back.....well you tell me.... To set this up I was grabbing my lunch out of the back seat so my back was to this lady I was wearing a Steelers jacket. This is exactly what was said... Her: So, you're a Steelers fan? Me: Yes Her: (a couple second pause) It's a good thing I washed my car Me: She walked away before I could say anything else. I tried to process it but it was too early in the morning to think that much.

Who do you most like to watch lose in a sports sense? Me personally I hate Penn State and the Lions. Can't stand Jo Pa and his boys... Would gladly watch OSU go 1-11 to watch them beat Penn State. Also, I've lived in Ohio for 21 years but...I have no love at all for the Browns or Bengals... Steelers all the way for me! And I also can't stand the Cowboys, pretty much. And in Hockey I have no love for the Edmunton Oilers...at all. So who do you love to watch lose? Chris

Rules for this one are simple....5 choices....but must be five different decades. Must be generally recognizable as a luxury car. A lotus Elise does not qualify. That's all she wrote for rules. A decade is 1960-1969, 1970-1979, etc... Interested to see what you all come up with.
