Is it any wonder we as Americans are lard asses? Not more than half an hour ago, I was able to order a Papa John's pizza online... medium pepperoni & black olive, baked well done, without getting off my ass. The little nerdy white kid brought it to my door and now I am stuffing my face with a delicious, hot, fattening concoction. And it's only going to get worse. Hey Papa John: good luck finding your old Z/28. I did my small part.

So after sitting at the shop for over a week, they finally looked over the Intrepid. For those of you who don't know, it's been parked in the driveway since late November, when on our way home we could hear the timing chains contacting things they shouldn't because they were so loose. So it rested quietly for the winter, besides when I went out to start it, until I could get it fixed. I got a call around 2 telling me to come down to the shop. What they showed me was that the oil was milky...which meant that the headgasket had failed. How long ago it failed I'm not sure, but odds are it's been long enough to do damage. This, coupled with the fact that it needs timing cha…

BTO - Takin' Care of Business Aerosmith - Dude Looks Like a Lady (I like Aerosmith...but I hate this song) Steppenwolf - Born to Be Wild AC/DC - Back in Black Black Sabbath - Iron Man Ozzy - Crazy Train Metallica - Enter Sandman Jane's Addiction - Jane Says Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again The only two I can't stand are Takin' Care of Business and Dude Looks Like a Lady, but I get really tired of hearing all of them on the radio.

Well, this makes my fourth consecutive year that I’ve been to the North American International Auto Show here in frigid Detroit, MI. Every year has been a lot of fun no matter when you go. The first three times I ended up going on the first Public Day as soon as the gates opened. This year, however, I was able to get tickets with some coworkers and got in on the first day of the Industry Preview. And let me tell you, depression is in the air. Fortunately, we walked in right by the Ford exhibit, which was about the same as most years, but spectacular by comparison to most other exhibits. If that doesn’t tell you something then there’s something wrong. The entire auto sho…

Goat is cheaper but the Charger has more standard equipment and performance mods. GTO has a nicer interior design, but the Charger is roomier, more practicle, and has things the Goat doesn't. According to the New York Times, sales of the curvaceous Solstice have dropped 19 percent versus last year through the end of July, and GM suddenly has a glut of Pontiac-branded roadsters on its hands—nearly five months of inventory. Conversely, its under-the-skin twin, the Saturn Sky, continues to sell well, with a one-month inventory and an actual wait time for delivery. So what’s going on here? Author Nick Bunkley seems to feel it’s a product of Saturn’s rising star in GM’s portfolio, and Pontiac’s statu…

Also, this has NOTHING to do with party affiliation. Liberal/conservative does NOT necessarily align itself with political leanings. Who here would like to get a GM car together for a run at LeMons? It's the race for $500 beaters that was in the link with the MR2 racing the Buick. Talking with people here that would like to possibly start a C and G team, let us know. Maybe we can actually get Oldsmoboi out from behind his computer and behind the wheel... This thread is for any comments or ideas, no matter how crazy or unrealistic. We are just in the talking stages/dreaming stages now, BUT...we can make this a reality if we want to. Thinking of perhaps running a J body Cavalier...but would be open to other choices. Although we may lose dave87rs as a forum member if the Cavalier is chosen …

Our usual comparos and dream garage threads typically center around sport sedans and super cars, but these heavy hitters are exciting in their own right. One has been around a while now and is a familiar face- the Bentley Continental GT. The other is a newcomer- the S63 AMG, in drop top form in this case. C&D got the two together for a shootout recently, and I thought this would make for a fun 'WYR' thread. Here's the link- C&D: Bentley Conti GTC vs MB S63 AMG Cab So, which you rather have- Bentley Conti GTC V8 or MB S63 AMG Cabriolet

Car & Driver 10 Best for 2007 Every year the entire Car and Driver staff gathers at a rural site about 30 miles west of our home office in Ann Arbor, Michigan for a week of evaluating all the new cars and, hopefully, avoiding cops. We judge the cars in three general areas: First, how well the car performs its intended functions. We expect sports cars to be fast and exhilarating, while we presume a family sedan will be practical. Second, we show a preference for the more engaging cars in each category; be it better driving manners, a double-take-inducing look, or a powerful engine. Finally, we are suckers for a good deal, so an inexpensive car that’s fast, fun, and …

I like Formula, but a friend of mine was saying how it has gotten boring, it isn't as good as the old days, there is no passing Mercedes always wins, etc. Which got me thinking how great would a racing league be where all cars had to have a 3800 V6? This way there is strategy in car selection and it would reward skilled driving. Some basic rules: 240 hp max (the GNX and Twin Turbo Trans Am would not be allowed) Stock wheels, but you could put on any tires you want Can remove excess weight like spare tire and jack, can't change the body or remove seats No engine modifications, but allowed to put new oil, filters, spark, plugs, etc to keep it maintained Races…

I'm beginning to really dislike the Cutlass. It's turning into more of a continuing problem than a solution. I think the transmission might be starting to go. It's hesitating more and more and is becoming quite clunky. The other night, it gave me a scare as it did not want to shift at all. I'm thinking it just got too hot at the time, but the fluid on the dipstick had black residue on it while the fluid itself matched the paint, a reddish brown. It didn't seem to be overly low on fluid, though. Low, but not low enough to cause those sort of problems. As long as it doesn't return to the state it was in that night, it'll be driveable, but I have a feeling this is a sign o…

  72. http://www.nationalpost.com/news/world/env....html?id=525590 You may have heard earlier this month that global warming is now likely to take a break for a decade or more. There will be no more warming until 2015, perhaps later. Climate scientist Noel Keenlyside, leading a team from Germany's Leibniz Institute of Marine Science and the Max Planck Institute of Meteorology, for the first time entered verifiable data on ocean circulation cycles into one of the U. N.'s climate supercomputers, and the machine spit out a projection that there will be no more warming for the foreseeable future. Of course, Mr. Keenlyside-- long a defender of the man-made global warming theor…

  73. BEIJING -- China suspended military exchanges with the United States and threatened sanctions against American defense companies Saturday, just hours after Washington announced $6.4 billion in planned arms sales to Taiwan. The development has further strained the complex relations between the two powers, which are increasingly linked by security and economic issues. China's Defense Ministry said the sales to self-governing Taiwan, which the mainland claims as its own, cause "severe harm" to overall U.S.-China cooperation, the state-run Xinhua News Agency reported. The Foreign Ministry threatened sanctions against U.S. companies involved in the arms sales. A spokeswoman…

Wednesday I was involved in a pretty serious MVA. I won't go into details but the Av is probably totalled judging by what my son says it looks like. I have not seen the damage because I was unconscious when the paramedics pulled me out of the truck. I just got out of the hospital today with cuts to my face, head, arm, and left leg, bruises, abrasions from the air bags, and broken ribs. My son is here taking care of me while I am recovering. I just figured I would let everyone know since that seems to be part of the culture around here.

Am I the only one who actually likes having a whole bunch of functions on the stalk? Like, I can't stand having cruise control on the steering wheel and when I drive a car with those buttons, I can't stand it. Is something wrong with me?

OK I love summer weather. I wear long sleeves @ work all year. But last evening I broke down and stuck my window units in here at the house. One, a Maytag, just works, never an issue, it hums merrily along. The other, a Frigidaire, runs fine when I first turn it on, cools, blows plenty of air... but it always seems to "bind up", or freeze. The compressor gets loud, and the air flow diminishes. It seems to be leaned far enough to let condensation drip away like it's supposed to. The air stays cold, it just doesn't "move". If I shut it off, I can eventually hear it "crack", like it is thawing somewhere. Any tips?

He always seems to be TOO interested in what others are doing, right down to making smart-ass comments about who is or isn't participating in what event at the forthcoming picnic. I told her I usually get a high fade, 1 on the bottom, tapering into a 6 on top. Her sweet little face frowned, actually, her whole body sort of wilted. "You don't want me to use the scissors?" That second, I looked down at her backpack on the floor and noticed (with what must have been an audible gasp) a button pinned to it. "Is that Edward Scissorhands?" "Yes", she said, with a bit of embarrassment, and a bit of defiant pride. I shut up. I was trapped. Everything else is a blur. It'll grow ba…

I was going about 50ish in a 55 into a left curve, the car got away from me (not entirely sure how) and I went off the road, cartwheeled through an embankment, the car ended up on the passenger side in a field. I shut the car off and crawled out through the sunroof, then ran around looking for my phone. Basically, our attitude and unwritten rule here is that front-drive cars are throwaways, while rear-drive is the greatest thing since sliced bread. But let's flip it for a second. I'm sure plenty of us can think of front-drive cars that are absolute jewels to drive and own for a lifetime, while there are plenty of cars that may put power to the rear wheels, but are complete wastes of road. So let's name some off... The only rules: -If it's already been named, don't put it on your own list (this keeps the clutter down) -All entries are open to dispute (e.g. "You can always swap that V-6 out of that Mustang and slip in a 351 for the dragstrip&qu…

Last night, I was over looking around at the Cadillac/Chevrolet dealership in Coldwater, and there was a used Seville SLS next to a used STS V6. It is just unbelieveable how far GM's interiors have come in just one generation of its products. Those who haven't compared the then and nows obviously need to take this little factor into consideration. However, I would prefer real aluminum trim in the top level STS's over the real would. The metal looks more modern (to me, at least). Might have done a poll, but don't know how yet, or didn't notice. So, what do you think? Seville Interior STS Interior

Mystic Blue is a sort of teal color, and with the handsome 18" GT rims, it was by far the best looking new Vibe I've seen yet. After work, I decided to stop in and take a test drive. "My" salesdude was there who sold me my truck. He stuck a dealer tag on the car and I drove it off the dealer's front lawn. The Vibe GT is pretty much a loaded vehicle, with a long list of standard stuff, including cloth seats with leather trim and a kickass Monsoon sound system.
