Buick
Founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, Buick is one of America’s oldest automobile brands and the oldest active division of General Motors (GM). Known for pioneering innovations like the overhead valve engine, Buick became a symbol of affordable luxury throughout the 20th century. It played a key role in GM’s growth and today positions itself between Chevrolet and Cadillac, offering premium vehicles in both the U.S. and China—its largest market.

2008 Buick Enclave CXL AWD The Highs: Serene driving environment, creamy ride, sexy sheetmetal, gorgeous interior. The Lows: Tepid power-to-weight ratio, modest towing capacity, so-so braking. The family champ in ride quality is also a real looker. BY TONY SWAN, PHOTOGRAPHY BY AARON KILEY October 2007 A New York Times columnist recently observed that the key to restoring Big Three fortunes lay in creating vehicles with compelling eye appeal—vehicles that people would actually want to buy. This dazzling insight came long after Buick had unveiled its Enclave crossover at the ’06 Detroit show, but the Enclave does seem to vindicate the thesis. It’s the first Buick in re…

Cheers and Gears Exclusive 2008 Buick Enclave (GMT-967) Cheers and Gears has paid for the rights to use these photos. Please link to the URL OF THIS TOPIC AND NOT HOTLINK OR REHOST THE IMAGES if you wish to share! Thank you! The above are some of the best photos of the production Enclave we've seen so far and we're happy to report that its not that exciting. Why? Because it looks quite identical to the stunning concept vehicle first shown seven months ago at Detroit. The instrument panel consists of a five-pack of round gauges like the concept along with the cabin-wide swath of wood trim nestled atop metallic accent of equal length. Chrome bezeling encircles the …

I've been to Canada more times than I can count, especially when I used to live in Seattle. About 6 years ago, the exchange rate was REALLY favorable for us. I often wondered if I ever found a new car in Vancouver I liked whether I could buy it and bring it back down over the border. Is that doable? Why or why not?

When GM launched the Pontiac Solstice with a segment on Donald Trump's Thursday night NBC reality TV show "The Apprentice" last season, a thousand people pre-ordered the car within an hour of watching the broadcast. Can similar interest be generated for Buick ^_^ , when it sponsors a "full-episode product integration" on the new Wednesday edition of "The Apprentice," hosted by Martha Stewart? (Maybe it won't necessarily be the same kind of episode, as which Trump's protegees helped to create an advertising campaign for the Solstice. GM isn't revealing details yet.) For the report, here is a direct link

Another positive review for the Buick Enclave, this time from the Chicago Sun-Times, titled "Buick brings back the love." The reviewer makes the statement that Buick and Cadillac are the only GM divisions offering exciting styling. "The rest of GM models (perhaps with the exception of Corvette) will put you to sleep," it is stated.

CNW Marketing Research has released figures showing the average ages of auto buyers in 2007, with evidence that the down US economy has moved car buyers ages up. For me, it was interesting to learn the latest about Buick buyers [ I added the bold ]: "And while Buick is typically the butt of jokes about buyers who are somewhere between retired and deceased, the average age of a Buick shopper last year was 55.2 years old, considerably younger than the average 63.6-year-old Mercedes-Benz shopper." I'm on vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC and decided to drop into the local Buick dealership to pick up a LaCrosse brochure (which is very nice BTW) and I started a long conversation with one of the sales managers there. He confirmed to me that Buick is getting three new models over the next two years. The LaCrosse is the first, which will be followed soon by the new Regal and then, and here's where the conflict begins, the last will be a "Baby Enclave." I started talking to him about the Buick "Astra" model that has been photographed testing in China and Germany, and he acted as if he knew nothing about this. The prospect of a Baby Enclave is exciting to me, but the rumors ab…

Yep, that time has come. The quick little mentionings of our '04 Suburban being too much of a gas hog than it's worth have gotten serious. It has trully done an awesome job of carting lots of people and lots of stuff when those times arose, but they too are getting few and far between anymore. And, let's face it, a Suburban is a little excessive for one person's daily commuting--and it's usually just that one person in there 90% of the time. But, I digress. Gas mileage, of course, is at the top of the requirements list for a prospective replacement. My mother has become a HUGE VW fan lately, especially because of the '05 Jetta TDI diesel a co-worker has that she th…

2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS is an American Lexus GM's first new car since it emerged from bankruptcy is as good as or better than the ES350 in every way, and is actually desirable. Dan Neil August 7, 2009 Fighter pilots call it "target fixation" when you become so focused on a single adversary that you lose situational awareness and fly into something large and obvious, like the ground. Buick's 2010 LaCrosse -- a near-luxury, mid-size-to-large sedan -- was built to put the cross-hairs on a single bogie, the Lexus ES350, and I'll tell you right now, it blows the Lexus out of the sky. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com April 19, 2013 In 2007, Buick introduced at the Shanghai Motor Show the Rivera Concept. Six years later, Buick unveiled a new Rivera concept the night before the Shanghai Motor Show. Deja Vu? Maybe. Buick says the Rivera concept gives a sneak peek what the brand's design language will look like in the future. The Rivera concept's shape is said to be inspired by "the Dynamic Nature of Water". Buick's trademark waterfall grille is present, along with a set of smooth, sweeping lines. Much like the last Rivera concept, the new concept features a set of gullwing doors. The Rivera concept uses a W-PHEV (wireless plug-in h…

Details on new Buick LaCrosse emerge New DI 3.0L V6 added Posted Oct 30th 2008 10:58AM Link to AutoBlog Judging from spy pics we've seen of the upcoming 2010 Buick LaCrosse, General Motors may have a winner on its hands, even if it is getting delayed. If specs from GM Inside News are accurate, Buick's new midsize sedan will have significant new powertrains, too. The big news comes from an all-new 3.0L, direct-inject V6 engine based on the larger 3.6L VVT powerplant that the General uses now. The small-displacement V6 packs some serious punch at 250 hp, and will be mated to the automaker's new 6T70 six-speed transmission for improved efficiency. The new 3.0L engine i…

Ok, I go home tomorrow but I have been in Florida and Atlanta for the last 2 weeks. I've seen Enclaves on the road, in parking lots and at the dealerships. Kudos for the great workmanship and packaging. However, this vehicle is way too rounded, bulbous and has not much going for it in the way of sleekness. I absolutely detest the pillar behind the rear passenger door and the rear storage area. I'm sure that it will be a fine vehicle and that some will definitely like it. I hope it does well because Buick (and GM) can use all the victories they can muster. However, this is a car I would NOT buy if this were my segment. Your poll opinion and any comments?

With news of Buick getting a RWD sedan, I have been wondering if Buick even needs another sedan. Currently, as we all know, Buick only has two sedans, the LaCrosse and Lucerne. The next LaCrosse will be moving to Epsilon II and the future of the Lucerne is uncertain because the future of the G-Body platform is also uncertain. The next LaCrosse will likely be smaller than the current model, as currently Epsilon vehicles are almost ten inches shorter than the LaCrosse, and W-Body suffers from long overhangs. We also have heard that Epsilon II will be slightly larger than Epsilon; so, let's assume the next LaCrosse will be somewhere around 190-193 inches. Now, both the L…

So, I'm far away, in the land of fall colors, driving along in the U.P. of Michigan, and I see this old but familiar Buick in a driveway. No, it can't be. I pull off and find a spot where there is room to park. I take out my phone and set it to camera mode. It was a '76 or '77 Regal colonnade coupe. It had the V6 badge. The lady of the house comes out the door and I explain to her that my dad used to have one of these as a second car. I asked if it was for sale. She said that her husband would know the details, that he wanted to rescue this piece of history from going into oblivion, and she gave me their number after we talked a bit. She didn't know much a…

Sounds whack but there are some 2014's on the used market here for about 18,5 and about 15k miles on them. Wonder about real mpg and if any reliability issues. Might be an option for a daily driver for me that I did not consider before. Otherwise thinking about Passat 1.8, Malibu, fusion etc as well as some smaller cars. Regal would be a huge upgrade.

Buick essentially rebodies the Cadillac DTS By Scott Oldham Email Date posted: 04-03-2006 Over the years, we've driven cars that disappoint, cars that irk, cars that thrill. We've even sampled a few that made us laugh. But the 2006 Buick Lucerne CXL V8 is the only car we've ever driven that has caused us physical pain. In today's Detroit Free Press, Katie Merx writes some very positive things about the Buick Enclave, and offers a couple of interesting quotes from Bob Lutz. Mr. Lutz states, "The future of Buick does not hinge on the success of the Enclave." Rather, he said, to return Buick to its historic role as GM's "near-luxury brand" in the United States, it must continue to offer vehicles in that same vein. "There will never again be a 'cheap Buick,'" Lutz said. "They will never again be priced down with Chevrolet. But they will offer outstanding value for the price asked." According to Financial Times, Buick is getting a shot in the arm with the new LaCrosse, a media blitz ("Take a look at us now" and "You've changed and I love it"), and, eventually, some smaller, fuel-efficient vehicles. Peter DeLorenzo of autoextremist.com, for one, says, "Buick can absolutely capture a younger, more contemporary audience. They'll do it by unleashing a series of sensational looking, eye-catching designs combined with edgy image advertising that will delete any previous hoary notions of Buick”. Buick haters (and we all can see you for who you are, despite your denials) needn't bother, but others can click here to read the entire story.

We were unable to get an Enclave from Buick, since the company's official media test-drive won't happen for another couple…

FIRST GLIMPSE: 2010 Buick LaCrosse Interior Photoshop courtesy of Ted Krygier General Motors has released these four renderings of a future vehicle labeled 'GMX-353', which is the internal designation for the next-generation Buick LaCrosse. Based on the forthcoming Epsilon II mid/large FWD platform, the next LaCrosse is intended on taking the current midsize Buick to the next level in terms of luxury and refinement. If these conceptualizations are even partially telling of the production sedan, then that goal will be readily achieved. The first rendering of the gauge binnicle (above) shows an advanced design with heavy use of metallic textures. A stitched leather da…

In the years since the Friends of Buick project launched, several C&G members have e-mailed, asking when the site would be updated. It has been renewed this morning, at http://www.friendsofbuick.com. The older version had much information on the Perception Gap, which (in particular) got quite a bit of airplay around here back in 2006, when it was presented to General Motors. Most of that will be uploaded again; pardon our dust, the migration to the new format is a work in progress. In the meantime, we were hoping to get your feedback. Given the aims of the site, as defined (briefly) at http://www.friendsofbuick.com/Default.aspx?mode=about, what would you like …

There is a new Buick print ad that just debuted showing a four vehicle lineup: Lacrosse, Lucerne, Enclave and Regal. I'm having trouble posting the picture. Can someone do it? Also Troy Clarke from GM said this today about Buick "The good news for Buick is that it is one of our core brands and so will get a due amount of our attention in terms of entries, cadence of entries, and effective promotion to build the brand. Best to take it step at a time so right now we are focused on the launch of the new Lacrosse. Dynamite product. Continues the renaissance of Buick that began with the Enclave. We will get this one right and you can take it to the bank that we…

From Detroit Free Press interview with Bob Lutz. Not sure what it means for Velite. Any interpretations? Q: Does each of GM's brands need a flag-in-the-ground car to define it like the Solstice does Pontiac? A: Arguably yes. We've got all kinds of great ideas for things we can do with iconic Hummers without getting bigger and bigger. Cadillac is a no-brainer. Someday we're going to do -- it's definitely in the product plan, but not kicked off yet -- we will do an ultra-luxury sedan involving an engine of more than eight cylinders and costing far more than any Cadillac has ever cost before, but not going into the $300,000 area. As Maybach ha…

A sales consultant at a GM dealer in Canada has posted to another website that Bob Lutz appeared at Canada's annual dealer conference today and brought along some future Buicks ( ! ). One was the LaCrosse/Allure. The second was a Buick Regal, based off, as you may have read reports, the Opel Insignia. (There were some spy shots taken in China and shown elsewhere on that website.) The third was the Riviera Concept and, according to this sales consultant, the Riviera is "a go!" He suspects that it will be built in Oshawa. If this information is accurate, it's wonderful news for present and future Buick owners!

Is there a place for Future Global niche Vehicles at Buick? With the addition of the Insignia, and a future Theta (Centieme?) Buick looks to have strong lineup coming. My question what potential is there for niche vehicles? (Likely small volume imports) An Insignia sports tourer based Electra? An insignia coupe?

Jamie LaReau Automotive News August 25, 2008 - 12:01 am ET At Buick, it's nearly all about China — the brand's biggest market. Buick's redesigned mid-sized car will be sold here and in China. A small sedan created for China may be sold here. A stylish, rear-wheel-drive sedan went on sale last year in China and was penciled in for the United States. But GM's financial plight scuttled the U.S. plan for the rwd sedan, as well as production plans for a sharp-looking coupe concept that debuted last year at the Shanghai auto show. Small car: General Motors is likely to bring a redesigned compact sedan to the United States for the 2012 model year, a front-wheel-driv…

This is quite an extensive article written in anticipation of the new Lucerne which I found fairly objective and it also brings up a few interesting points such as offering the supercharged 3.8 in the Lucerne. I don't know how knowledgeable this guy is to the future plans of the Lucerne but nobody here has really brought that up as even a potential option for the Lucerne. The article seems to be friendly to GM but it also points of some weaknesses of the Lucerne that are pretty crucial, such as the Avalon getting their V6 to 5 more HP than Lucerne's V8. http://www.mysanantonio.com/business/stori...k.20db0e19.html

I hope this is a change that will take place across the model lines! Get rid of the alphanumeric designations for Pontiac and Cadillac. I don't think the name changes have helped GM. It takes more money to advertise an unfamiliar model. HOW SWEET IT IS! I hope GM doesn't change their mind and go back to Lacrosse!! When the Japanese have a dud, they don't change the name..they change the styling or other attributes about the car. Don't expect Altima, Accord, Camry, Civic or Corolla to change names anytime soon. Maybe Cavalier and Grand Am needed a name change. But the other models? Nah. Is the Cobalt selling any better than the Cav? Colorado selling any better than…
