Buick
Founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, Buick is one of America’s oldest automobile brands and the oldest active division of General Motors (GM). Known for pioneering innovations like the overhead valve engine, Buick became a symbol of affordable luxury throughout the 20th century. It played a key role in GM’s growth and today positions itself between Chevrolet and Cadillac, offering premium vehicles in both the U.S. and China—its largest market.

So, Garmin has a new commercial in which the guy is driving a Lucerne... with a Garmin GPS mounted on top of his dash. I was amused that although the car offers two forms of navigation for him to choose from, he's using a Garmin. Yes, I know it's a commercial. Was just amused.

The CARS.COM website has been updated with the Lucerne info. Under the new car section pick any BUICK model for 2005. Once your in that model click the MODEL link at the top and then you'll be given a choice of model year 2005 or 2006. Choose 2006 and you'll then see the link to Lucerne. Have fun.

Dorschel Buick (Rochester, NY) had a production version of a new Lucerne CXS on display last week. I'm not sure it if is still there or not. It wasn't for sale, they were using it to generate interest I guess. It was open and fully accessable. I was all over it. Very nice for a big ol' 4 door sedan. Much better looking in person than in pictures. They also had it sitting right next to a LeSabre, which just made the LeSabre look all the more crappy.

I read in a 2007 Lucerne promo of the "NEW DOUBLE ISOLATED” powertrain mounting system. Does anyone know whether this is different/better than they used in 2006? My own experience with my 2006 CX is that the engine noise isolation is not as good as it could be, and not as good as it was in my previous 1999 LeSabre. Otherwise, it's a nice, quiet car, especially after the source of an annoying vibration under acceleration was found & corrected by the dealer. If better mounts are now available, I'd be interested in retrofitting them to my 2006, if that's possible.

I went to the dealership last week to have the left front door check replaced on my 2006 Buick Lucerne which came cracked. While there I mentioned a problem I noticed especially prominent in city driving. When turning (especially to the left) I could feel something like a gear slipping. This was very hard to describe but felt pronounced in the steering wheel but no sound involved. When I left they told me there would probably be a recall on this when the problem was corrected. The service sheet said: BULLETIN #06-02-35-009 STATES NOT TO REPLACE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT OR STEERING GEAR. PERFORMED STEPS 1 - 5 AS PER BULLETIN. UNABLE TO REACH ENGINEERING AS IN STEP 6.…

I took a good many snaps and this stupid board won't let me post them. If somebody would be so kind as to help me out with this I would appreciate it. The Buick display had a chopped away blue Lucerne with a cashmere interior and a silver one with black inside. Both of the vehicles were CXS models. Noticed that the Lucerne CXL is showing Carbon Black Metallic among color choices, but only in conjunction with a Spring Appearance package. It includes black chrome grill, chrome 17" wheels, and chrome decklid molding. I'm wondering if the wheel design is unique? Anyone heard any specifics on this? Also, Cars.com is still showing the LaX CXS trim level. They usually have their site updated before BUICK updates theirs . . .

Has anyone else here signed up for the Lucerne V.I.P. Premiere Night that's being held tonight (Tue., Dec. 13th)? Select Buick dealers are holding this event for those who previously registered on Buick's Web site. Strange thing is the Buick dealer right around the corner from me isn't, but I have to drive about 15 miles or so to another dealer. My baby is sick, so I'm not sure if the wife will let me go, but I was wondering how many C&Ger's were going.

As a Buick owner, I receive a magazine by Buick every season called "The Style Review." (I definitely look forward to it ^_^ ) I just received the Fall 2005 issue and on the cover is a Lucerne. My first thought was "That grille looks like it's all chrome..." but I immediately rejected the idea as light reflecting off of the Lucerne's glossy black grille. So I looked inside. By page 16, there was no doubt about it. Both of the Lucernes pictured have chrome grilles. I scanned in the cover and page 16 so you guys can check it out. (as a side note, they also have an article titled “Seattle on our Minds” on pages 26-29 where they're touring Seattle in a Park Avenue! Ho…

I think this has been covered, but I think Buick really screwed up on the Lucerne grill. First, the shape is homely, not bold. Second, they black out the grill on the upmarket CXS and CXL trying to appeal to "Euro" buyers. Bring out the chrome baby. Despite all that I wouldn't mind owning a Ming Blue CX with a cloth bench and that homely but shiny grill. But I'd wait for the $$$ to come down or buy a one year old low mileage rental.

The black grille on the Lucerne looks gorgeous. It's actually black chrome, not the matte black plastic we are used to. I personally prefer it over the all chrome grille. The press photos just don't do justice. I saw it in person.

From today's Detroit Free Press Meanwhile, GM has decided to add models to its Buick brand Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said. Fuelled by the success of Buick’s new Enclave SUV and strong showings in customer satisfaction and quality surveys, “there’s now a consensus within GM that Buick is alive and well and can appeal to young people,” Lutz said. Buick was widely considered to be a candidate for elimination just a couple of years ago.

In a December 21, 2007 Forbes.com article by Jerry Flint, "Backseat Driver: The Road to More Market Share," Bob Lutz implies that the new Buick LaCrosse will be impressive, perhaps overwhelming. And is the LaCrosse, on GM's new Epsilon II architecture, coming sooner than we think? According to the article, "Among the cars coming soon will be a Saturn Astra compact and the Pontiac G8 rear-wheel-drive sedan, both imports; then a new Buick LaCrosse sedan ("It's going to be a mind-boggler," says Lutz), the Chevy Traverse crossover SUV next fall, the Chevy Camaro in early 2009, and a new Chevy Cobalt compact." Here are some pictures I took of the Silver 2010 Buick Allure CXL at the Montreal International Autoshow in Quebec, Canada on Tuesday January 20th. This was a Canadian show debut. Off the bat, I have to say that the interior is beautiful!!! The car looks very striking as a whole, and the best angle in my opinion is the rear 3/4. I noticed this model had slightly different headlights than what the press pictures showed. The sweapspear looks cool in person, although the general proportions of the car will take some getting used to. VIDEO:

Sharon Terlep / The Detroit News MILFORD -- General Motors Corp. will employ an arsenal of soundproofing technology in hopes of making its upcoming Buick Enclave crossover one of the quietest rides on the road. One of my biggest gripes with Buick is it appears the competition (and often cheaper cars that don't compete) have a lot more content, and better packaging. I have to jump up 3 trim levels or even go to the top trim to get certain features that are standard on a Corolla. Sure, the LaCrosse is a much nicer, larger car, but I can't help but feel at this price and time, some things should just be standard like Blind-zone monitoring. Then there's the gripe that in order to add one feature you often have to add several other expensive packages. Anyone else get frustrated? I know I have another year before I need to get my next car, but I want to start looking …

The Super features a bolder version of the signature Buick grille and a larger, chrome-trimmed rear bumper along with a more luxurious interior. Other upgrades include standard 18-inch alloy wheels, four-wheel ventilated disc brakes and MagneRide suspension. GM says 0 to 60 mph will be less than 6.0 seconds." Motor Trend has recently bounded the line from bias into pure stupidity, and one of their latest comparisons takes that line even further. In their recent Road Test, comparing the Toyota Avalon, Hyundai Azera and Volkswagen Passat, one thing was glaringly absent -- the Buick Lucerne. For a car that is comparable in every single point of analysis, I can think the desire to match that cool throwback photo from the 1970's the only reason they left it out. But they didn't completely ignore it. When the Azera placed third in the comparion, MT was quick to point out that this car - outsold by the Lucerne nearly 5x over - "was eating Buick's lunch." Friends, this type of jour…

Just saw the November issue of Motor Trend at the bookstore, and, in a column of bits and pieces titled "MT Confidential," it was stated (in pretty much these words) that once and for all, according to their spies, the Buick rear-drive program is dead and there is nothing on the horizon. What does this mean for the future of Buick then? Does future product planning hinge on the sales of the Lucerne? Is the Buick Lambda crossover the last to debut so that, given the worst circumstances, it could be canceled?

Will the better Buick please stand up? "Since 1989, Toyota's Lexus ES sedans have been raking in gigantic piles of crispy green cashola by employing an absurdly elementary tactic: simply becoming Japan's Buick. You see, Buick's once colossal sales volume hasn't so much evaporated since its halcyon days as it's been incrementally hijacked by a Lexus that's consistently been offering Buick-to-the-bone qualities -- most notably relaxed quietness -- conjoined with Japanese quality." In the end, Buick wins... by a nose. To read the entire article, click here

[source: Motor Trend] First Drive: 2011 Buick Regal Pre-Production Prototype Have Opel and Buick Built a TSX-Fighter? November 19, 2009 By Frank Markus The 2011 Buick Regal is targeted at me. My last two family cars purchases have been a 2005 Acura TSX and a 1995 Infiniti G20. Our requirements were 1) a full roster of luxury features and toys, 2) four-cylinder fuel economy, and 3) long-haul durability (the G20 racked up 170,000 miles). I have no concerns about domestic-car reliability, but the Big Three haven't seriously attempted a four-banger luxmobile since the ill-fated Cadillac Cimarron. Now, with Buick training to go toe-to-toe with the Asi…

Buick bills itself as a producer of “Premium American Motorcars,” and its target audience is the somewhat conservative, fairly affluent buyer. But in spite of this rather traditional approach, Buick has occasionally broken out of that mould to market some surprising high performance machines. In 1936, for example, it introduced the Century, named for its 100 mph (161 km/h) capability. It was basically Buick’s light Special model fitted with the Roadmaster’s 5.2-litre (320 cu in.), 120 horsepower overhead valve, straight-eight engine. In the 1960s, the Buick Wildcat wrapped sybaritic luxury in a sparkling performer, and Car Life magazine dubbed it the “Executive Hot-R…

First Drive: 2010 Buick Regal Could the Insignia Still Make it to America Badged as a Buick? By Angus MacKenzie How's this for culture shock? Now before you going flaming me, I'm just thinking out loud here...packaging would likely need to change to ensure a fit within the engine bay, and the cost would be nothing to laugh at. But just think about it for a second... Buick drops Aerosmith song New tag line will stress engineering By Jamie LaReau Automotive News / October 24, 2005 LAS VEGAS - Buick is retiring the "Dream Up" marketing tag line it introduced barely a year ago to appeal to younger, wealthier buyers, according to dealers. Buick's new slogan is "Beyond Precision." Dealers say Buick's marketing general manager, Steve Shannon, announced the tag line at General Motors' 2005 Dealer Business Conference here last week. Dealers say that the change will take effect in November or early December and that Buick will drop the Aerosmith song "Dream On" from its TV commercials. …

These came out a few days ago and apparently flew under the radar for the most part. Here they are in their 800 pixel glory: The wood-covered console thing with the TVs won't make production, and neither will the console in the second and third rows. I really hope the Rolls-like picnic tables in the front seats make it; thats a great feature.

From the Wall Street Journal ORLANDO, Fla. -- General Motors Corp. (GM) announced some additions and subtractions to its Pontiac and Buick lines to dealers here a few days after its sales chief vowed a "renaissance" for the two model lines. Buick will get an "uplevel version" of the Buick LaCrosse sedan that will include new exterior trim and a new engine, Buick spokesman David Darovitz confirmed Tuesday. He said no price has been decided.

Once again my interest got caught by the new GM warranty. Check out any near luxury, or luxury make and compare it to Buick. At $250 and less for repairs, Buick can take on anyone in cost of repairs over 5 years. Buick Lucerne - $261 lexus gs300 - $362 acura rl - $384 Chrysler 300 - $872 (ouch) infiniti G35 - $272 Mercury Montego $882 (double ouch) toyota avalon - $498

I was very impressed at a new Lucerne commercial I saw. It was about how quiet it was and about that mr head guy or something to test the sound. Buick then said how other car companies still are louder than they are blah blah blah..then some hip hop music came on . :CG_all:

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 29, 2012 General Motors released a teaser picture of the new Buick Enclave which will make its official debut at the New York auto show in April. The picture which teases the interior of the new Enclave looks the same as the new Acadia, except for the different color lighting. So that means the Enclave will have Buick's Intellilink system, an extensive use of LED ambient lighting, and new switchgear. Also, expect the center airbag seen in the Acadia to appear as well. With the LaCrosse Super and Enclave debuting in '07 as 2008 models, what comes next for Buick. When does the next generation LaCrosse debut? I read it is Epsilon, what does that mean? Will there be the rumored coupe/convertible/Velite? When is the Lucerne slated for a refresh?

It's mostly speculation, but the Buick Delta II might be built by Opel in Germany and it might visually be influenced by the Riviera Concept. To read the story from Motor Authority, click here. Reuters also mentions this here.

The only incentive on Lucerne now is a lousy GM interest rate program. Why a chimpanzee could don a suit of clothes and apply to a bank or credit union and beat the lousy finance rates GM is offering on Lucerne.

I recently bought a Lucerne CX, believing quality/luxury equate to QUIET, and buying into the QUIET-TUNING hype – although it’s indeed quiet on the highway, I am disappointed that it is not nearly as quiet in stop/go city driving as my previous 1999 LeSabre Ltd – the CX has poor engine noise isolation & annoying drive train shudder/growl under startup acceleration conditions - dealer improved situation by replacing one engine mount (defective design) & realigning engine to mounts, but engine noise isolation still not acceptable - wind/road noise isolation good, but 2 out of 3 not good enough. Is there ANY way I can get better engine noise isolation? I'd be willing…

I love Buick, not for what it currently is but for what it was back in the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s 80s, and even 90s. and more importantly what it COULD be. I went to the website the other day and was kind of saddened by the lackluster model lineup and crappy model names. With a rich history of awsome names like Century, Electra, Invicta, Riviera, Roadmaster, Regal, Centurion, LeSabre, Park Avenue, Super, Special, Skylark, Grand Sport, Grand National, Wildcat you'd think at least a fe of them owuld be used to resurrect the brand, but nope... instead we get two cars and two SUVs. WTF? This is not the Buick that's going to win backl serious sales. Th…

I think that this competent car (easy to live with, day in and day out...as Bobo quoted) looks good from the side profile and sports a nice looking rear tail lamp / rear deck lid combination, whether straight on or from a quarter view. I think that the front is a MISS...just look at the Lucerne. LaCrosse's looks part Taurus and part Jag entry-level model. It needs to be something that can't be equated with something else. I gave it an "EH."

Debates have raged over the name Electra with some saying it should never be used on an EV only ICE while others have said it is the perfect name for launching a Buick EV global push. GM today seems to agree as they have filed to patent the name Electra in both Canada and the US. Based on GM's Ultium Platform of battery and engines, Buick looks to kick off their EV transition with a 4 door AWD SUV. Leveraging stat-of-the-art technology, Buick plans to move forward with moving to a zero emissions portfolio. Combining the athletic look of a four-seat crossover with Gran Turismo aesthetics, the Electra previews the 21st century design language for the EV gen…

There is this place here in Ontario called Whitby (near Oshawa plants) Well this includes Oshawa too, though not as much. I think this place is a gold mine for buick w-bodys because people know they are built right there. I think this place must have been a gold mine for years. I was very surprised today as I spent a lot of time there, and a trend that I noticed was Older people were driving LeSabres, Regals and some old people in Allures. But the thing that surprised me was that most of the people in Century's weer younger people, and some of the people in Allure's were younger. Now I really think this place has been one of gm's gold mines. Anyone ever been…

A dealer friend of mine, who is credible, stated that his GM rep said there will be a Park Avenue replacement this summer. Does anybody know anything about it? GM is better at keeping secrets now days, so it wouldn't suprise me.
