The next-generation Chrysler Town and Country has been kept under wraps for most part. That was until earlier this week when The Windsor Star was somehow able to get shots of the next-generation van as it was being loaded into a transport truck at the Windsor Assembly line. From the couple of shots published, we can tell that the next-generation van will be using design from the 700C shown at the Detroit Auto Show in 2012. The front looks to have a similar shape the 200 sedan, while parts of the side match up to the 700C concept. Its expected that we'll be seeing the production version of the Town and Country at the Detroit Auto Show. Source: The Windsor Star …

WASHINGTON -- DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler unit, the third-biggest U.S. automaker, said it will recall 283,000 Dodge Ram pickup trucks that may roll away if the gear shift isn't fully placed in the "park" position. The automaker in December will notify owners of 2003-2005 models equipped with diesel engines and automatic transmissions, and will fix the vehicles by installing an alarm. Chrysler advised owners to always remove the key and insure that the vehicle is in "park". The recall was disclosed Oct. 7 in an e-mailed statement. That same day, Auburn Hills, Michigan-based Chrysler said it would recall 300,000 other vehicles, including 20…

Benz-sourced turbo-diesel adds new dimension to Jeep's slick new Grand Cherokee The Benz V6s form an interesting backdrop to the Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD launched in Australia this week with an all-new, Mercedes-sourced 3.0-litre V6. The Grand Cherokee’s turbo-diesel winds out an impressive 160kW (at 4000rpm) as well as the expected mountain of torque – in this case, 510Nm at a barely-spinning 1600rpm. This means it will accelerate from zero to 100km/h in a mere 9.0 seconds – half a second faster than the 4.7-litre petrol V8 version of the new Grand Cherokee. Just as importantly, the efficient oil-burner means the almost-2.2-tonne Grand Cherokee has fuel co…

Chrysler crashes limo market Stretch 300 takes on Lincoln Town Car, extended Cadillac DTS Josee Valcourt / Detroit News story Think the interior of the Chrysler 300 is cavernous? A stretched version of the sedan -- about six inches longer -- is in the works as the automaker prepares to venture into the limousine business. DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group is in final talks with Lima, Ohio-based Accubuilt Inc. to produce mini-stretched 300 sedans similar to an elongated version Accubuilt created for display last month at the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show, a performance and custom vehicle event held annually in Las Vegas. Rethinking the Car Company Private-equity firm Cerberus is expected to transform Chrysler into an automobile manufacturer like no other. What the future may hold. May 17, 2007 - Henry Ford created the defining engine of the American auto industry with his mighty River Rogue factory in the 1920s. Huge freighters loaded with iron ore and rubber docked at one end of mile-long warren of foundries and factories, while on the other end shiny black Model A automobiles rolled off the assembly line every 49 seconds. At the dawn of the Internet age, Michael Dell created a new model for manufacturing. At his factories, the guts of his computers—circuit boards, frames, memory chips…

There is speculation in the greater Toronto media, starting yesterday, that Mississauga, Ontario based parts supplier Magna is looking at buying Chrysler. The reaction in the lunch room here was largely that people would consider Chrysler again, if it were Canadian, and especially if it were based in the GTA (greater Toronto). What would your reaction be to a Canadian owned Chrysler? How would the UAW respond?

FCA has sent a merger proposal to Renault in what would start as an operational tie-up leading to a full merger. The proposal is a 50/50 deal that will not involve Nissan or Mitsubishi and it estimated to be worth around $33 billion. Few details have been revealed, however, Renault's board said it would issue a press release after the meeting. Rumor has it that Renault is negotiating with FCA without the approval from Nissan or Mitsubishi. If the merger does go through, it would happen over the next 12 months and the combined companies would rank 3rd in the world in terms of production, just behind Toyota and Volkswagen. One complication to the deal is the French go…

Just got into one of these, silver, with all options except upgraded stereo and sunroof. Interior is cheap...perhaps not as bad as the early build Calibers, but not great. On my short ride from the yard to here, it seemed tight, no rattles (@10k) and the CVT seemed fine in town....I'm going to fill up the gas tank, get a read on mileage in mixed use and update you guys when I've had more seat time....

In a discussion about their pending merger, Fiat Chrysler revealed that the combined company's future vehicles in the small to mid-size range will be built on two of PSA's platforms. The reasoning behind it is that PSA's platforms are more modern than FCA's which first debuted in 2003. They are also capable of a wider range of propulsion methods like electrification that are harder to incorporate into the aging platform that FCA is using. The smaller of the two platforms, PSA's CMP, launched last year is found under the Peugeot 208, 2008, DS 3 Crossback and the new Opel Corsa. The larger platform is called EMP2 and launched in 2016. It underpins the Peugeot 3008…

The internet went mad yesterday when spy shots of a unique 300 SRT mule was caught. The pictures - caught at an apartment complex and on the highway - show a 300 SRT sporting some wider fenders and a set of drag radials. The spy photographer notes the wheels fitted to the 300 are the same ones that Dodge was using for the early Demon mules. Behind the wheels are a set of four-piston Brembo brakes. Also, the spy photographer says the mule was making engine noises similar to the Charger/Challenger Hellcat. What could this be? It might just be an engineering mule that will likely not go into production. Another possibility is Chrysler building a Hellcat version of …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com December 13, 2013 Chrysler thought it would be a good idea to drive an uncovered 200 for a late-night photoshoot. What they weren't expecting is spy photographer crashing their photoshoot and bringing us our first good look at the next 200. The new 200 is a massive improvement over the current model. There is a four-door coupe roofline that appears to have been lifted from the Audi A7 or Volkswagen CC. The front is quite different from recent Chrysler designs with a narrow grille and slim headlights. The back end is very reminiscent of the A7. We also get a peek into the interior which looks somewhat familiar to the Dod…

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group have agreed to the terms of a merger just after it was announced they were talking just yesterday. PSA's board has already agreed to the deal and is awaiting approval from FCA's board which is meeting later tonight. FCA Chairman John Elkann would retain his chairmanship of the new company while Peugeot CEO Carlos Tavares would stay on as CEO. Announced in Fiat Chrysler Automobile's five-year plan, the new crossover will be coming out in 2016. As for the new crossover itself, Gardner said it would use a front-wheel drive platform, with the option of all-wheel drive and a V6 engine. Gardner also talked about the need to build more models off of existing platform to help maximize their investment. This leads Motor Trend to speculate that the new crossover wil…

The Chrysler Pacifica is often considered the best of a very small market. There are only five mini-vans left on the market, and only one of those has all-wheel drive optional, the Toyota Sienna. That stat could be changing if rumors about the Chrysler Pacifica prove true. According to Automotive News, Chrysler is hard at work on an AWD option for the Pacifica. While not officially confirmed by Chrysler, the union chief for the Windsor plant where Pacifica is built appears to have spilled the beans. If AWD does come to the Pacifica, it may not be until the 2021 model year. Adding AWD would be likely help to boost sales in the North East US and in Canada. Chry…

The rumors that PSA and FCA may merge can be put to bed now. Sources familiar with the discussion told the Wall Street Journal that executives from the respective companies are no longer in talks. FCA was reticent about the idea because it would increase the companies reliance on the struggling European market, and the Agnelli family, who has a controlling stake in FCA, was not interested in a deal that was paid for with PSA stock. PSA would need to use equity to pay for FCA because they are still digesting their acquisition of Opel from General Motors. Had they merged, the combined company would produce over 9 million vehicles per year, putting them on a playing …

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has been lagging behind other automakers in terms of electrification, tending to focus more on how many more vehicles they drop the Hellcat V8 into. But that appears to be changing. The Detroit Bureau had the chance to speak with FCA's new global powertrain chief, Micky Bly. He said that within the next twelve to eighteen months, FCA would try to reposition itself as one of the industry’s leaders in electrification. “We’re not leaders now,” said Bly, “but we will be soon.” Bly wouldn't go into detail as to how FCA plans to do this. But we already know that a number of FCA brands have plans for hybrid and electric vehicles - includi…

The Ford Mustang has been a dominant force in the sales department well before the last generation Chevy Camaro rode off into the sunset. That changed last month. Ford's iconic pony car has been outsold by the Dodge Challenger by 293 units in February, as the Dodge coupe racked up 3,283 sales during a very challenging month. The Challenger's February victory could be a sign of things to come for the Mustang, as the Blue Oval's most recognizable vehicle is set to get bombarded with more competition coming from the 2010 Camaro. The Camaro, which goes into regular production on March 16, already has over 10,000 pre-orders on the books. The Mustang won't be left for dead, t…

The merger between FCA and Renault has crossed another hurdle overnight with FCA agreeing to a compromise with the French government. The issue surrounded the French government's desire for a guaranteed seat on the company's board of directors and effective veto power on CEO appointments. In a compromise, Renault would give up one of its own board seats for one occupied by a representative of the French government. The makeup of the board would then be 4 seats allocated to FCA appointees, three to Renault appointees, and one to the French government. I've read on various foums that dealers can't seem to keep the Challenger in stock. Yesterday I went to my local dealer to see if they had anything. In a sea of minivans and Avengers there was not a Challenger to be found. I asked the sales rep how they were selling and he told me as fast as they can get them. They got one in last week and it was on the lot for only two days. I think this is an example of how America cars should be made. They shouldn't be designed to be me-too Japanese wannbes. They should be proud of their heritage and designed and engineered to reflect that. So is this the scenario in your neck of the woods?

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced yesterday that it would be recalling 1,908,911 vehicles worldwide due to the airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners possibly not deploying in the event of a crash. Approximately 1.4 million vehicles involved in the recall are in the U.S. In a statement released by FCA, the issue deals with a specific restraint control module and front impact sensor wiring. "The condition may occur when vehicles equipped with a particular occupant restraint control module and front impact sensor wiring of a specific design, are involved in certain collisions. If all these factors are present, there may be an increased potential for occupant injury.”…

Chrysler, UAW talks heat up Negotiations over labor contract progress as United Auto Workers union gives notice of potential strike. October 8 2007: 3:51 AM EDT DETROIT (AP) -- The United Auto Workers put Chrysler LLC on notice that a strike is possible if contract talks stall, a person briefed on the talks said, but a labor expert said the union's action could be a bargaining tactic. The union on Sunday gave Chrysler a 72-hour notice of a potential strike, the person said, but it was unclear exactly whether the notice would end on Tuesday or Wednesday. Bargainers working in committees made progress during the weekend but still have much work to do on difficult…

Drove a co-worker's Charger R/T today. Great looking car outside. Great looking inside. Nice room. Fantastic power. . Don't know if it was the tires or what, but I noticed quite a bit of road noise coming in the cabin on the highway.....seemed odd. The interior materials were suprisingly nice. The wife and I rented a Chrysler 300 a couple of years ago and the interior was REALLY cheap on it. I was real disappointed, so it was a nice suprise to see the interior on the Charger seem classy. My buddy said he's getting close to 20 MPG combined city/hwy. Not too shabby for a HEMI, but he only has 1250 miles on the clock. Within the next year or so, I need to buy …

New Ram key for Chrysler Top designer will update Dodge pickup Link to Original Article @ Detroit Free Press Ralph Gilles, one of Chrysler's top designers, went down to Texas to find inspiration for the new Dodge Ram pickup, which will go on sale next year. The Ram, a supremely important part of the Chrysler lineup, is in need of an update and faces intense competition, especially from General Motors' new Chevrolet Silverado, Toyota's new full-size Tundra and Ford, which is gearing up to launch a new F-150 next year. In an interview with the Free Press this week, Gilles, 37, spoke carefully about the upcoming redesign of the Ram, not wanting to spill too many secrets …

Who needs an 18-cent a gallon gas tax holiday from pandering politicians when you have Chrysler on your side! With gas prices rapidly approaching and exceeding $4 a gallon across the nation, Chrysler is offering up a deal that just might make people averse to the looks of cars like the Chrysler Sebring and Jeep Compass think twice. Between now and June 2, anyone who buys any new Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep vehicle will be able to register for a "Let's Refuel America" card. Once the customer registers a credit card with the program, they will receive a new card that they can use the card at participating gas stations to fuel up their new car or truck. When the card is used, th…

A report from The Windsor Star says Chrysler is planning very soon to announce the next-generation of minivans. “We’ve been told (by Chrysler Canada) that Windsor Assembly is in position for new products. We’re waiting for an official announcement that could come any time now,” said Mike Lovric, Unifor Local 444 vice-president. Lovric went onto say that he has received a 2014 production schedule that shows layoff weeks slated for November and December, leading to the possibility that the plant could be retooled and production beginning sometime in 2015. Trying to figure out what Chrysler has in mind for their next-generation minivans has been difficult. CEO Sergio Marc…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 18, 2013 When we have brought you spy shots of the next-generation Chrysler 200, it was usually under the cloak of a Alfa Romeo Giulietta. But this week, the first spy shots of the next-gen 200 in its own flesh has been released. While Chrysler went crazy with the amount of camoflage on this mule, we can take away some information about the new 200. For starters, the next-gen 200 will adopt a four-door coupe silhouette. It also looks like the 200 will come with a short decklid with a spoiler. There isn't as many clues with the front end, though we're guessing a sleeker look is in play. Power will come from two…

from a report on Edmunds Although the Hemi-powered Charger sedan and Magnum wagon attract most of the attention at Dodge dealers right now, the 2008 Dodge Avenger should get its fair share of looks when it goes on sale early next year. Smaller than the Charger sedan, the Avenger will replace the outdated Stratus in the Dodge lineup. It won't have Hemi power, but judging by our most recent spy photos the Avenger will at least look like the Charger. Up front it uses upturned headlights to frame a crosshair grille while the deep front air dam gets larger air intakes and foglights. Judging by the strategically placed camouflage on the prototype, the Avenger will also shar…

Chrysler can't seem to catch a break with their nine-speed automatic. Case in point is a recall for around 26,000 Chrysler 200 models equipped with 3.6L V6 and nine-speed because the transmission will not go into park. According to a statement, the problem is due to inconsistent assembly procedures at a supplier's plant. At the time of this writing, five owners have experienced this problem. Dealers will inspect the transmission and replace if necessary. In the meantime, Chrysler is asking owners to put on the parking brake to prevent their vehicle from rolling back. Source: Chrysler Press Release is on Page 2 Statement: Park Engagement February 26, 2015, Auburn H…

For their next generation minivan, Chrysler is going down a different route with how they will sell them. Chrysler will drop the Dodge Grand Caravan in the next generation leaving the Chrysler Town & Country to be sold in the US. In Canada, the opposite will happen. Why? It would certainly be the Dodge Grand Caravan in Canada, but the Town & Country resonates more strongly here in the U.S., so that’s going to be the van in the U.S,” said Reid Bigland, head of Dodge. Bigland says in the US, the Town & Country outsells the Grand Caravan by two to one. In Canada, it's a different story; the Grand Caravan takes up 70% of minivan sales and is the third-best-selli…

Despite slow sales, Crossfire will be back in 2008 By BRADFORD WERNLE | Link to Original Article @ AutoWeek | Updated: 07/02/07, 8:49 am et DETROIT - The Chrysler Crossfire - once a dramatic symbol of the promised synergies in the DaimlerChrysler merger, a marriage of German technology and American style - has become a bargain bin sports car. That merger is ending with the sale of Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Management, but the Crossfire will soldier on. The 2008 model goes into production this summer, adding a tire pressure monitoring system and other minor changes. In 2006, Crossfire orders were suspended because of slow sales. The incentive war is on. Chrysler's Miles of Freedom incentive ups the ante. The program offers: A debit card for $2,400 -- the amount of money Chrysler calculates is needed to buy 12,000 miles worth of gasoline for two years at the Chrysler group's corporate average fuel economy rate of 21.8 mpg. The plan is based on a $2.15 per gallon price of gasoline. Free scheduled maintenance for as many as 24,000 miles. A five-year, 60,000-mile full mechanical warranty, compared with the standard three-year, 36,000-mile warranty. Excluded from the program are the 2005 and 2006 Chrysler 300; Dodge Viper, Magnum, Charger and Sprinter; and all SRT8 ve…

Also, someone over at GMI pointed this out...go check out the Chrysler website. There is a button for "Ask Dr. Z" that takes you nowhere. On the Sebring page, there is a contest titled "My life. My car. My mess." to find the messiest car. Then, on the Sebring page, you click on details for more info and just get some pictures, like clicking on the 2.4L button just shows you a picture of the Sebring engine. And on the exterior pictures link under "style," all the Sebrings are photoshopped into the background image. Seriously, what gives?

Two weeks ago, a good friend of mine needed a new car...quickly. He's not "car" guy, so overall performance is not a huge issue. Style, comfort, features and price are the top issues. Additionally, used cars were not an option. After a positive experience with his old 2001 Corolla, along with his sister's good (current) ownership experience with a 2002 Corolla, Toyotas are held in high esteem. He was initially fixated on a 2009 Camry...but the price was just a bit north of his $18,000 budget. So we did lots of online searching for pics of the kinds of cars he needed to be looking at. We then drove by several dealers (late on a Friday night) so he could see cars in…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 4, 2012 Chrysler design chief Ralph Gilles says design changes are coming for future Chrysler products. The current lineup is known for their boxy design aesthetic, but Gilles says that's not in line with the industry. Speaking at the annual Mackinac Policy Conference, a gathering of Michigan political and business leaders, Gilles says aerodynamics are becoming an important design aspect. He uses the Audi A7 and the new Toyota Avalon as vehicles that can have the aerodynamic design usually associated with sports cars. "The wind is starting to sculpt these vehicles," Gilles said. Gilles said Chrysler will be aba…

Chrysler Group needs more production space — and it’s getting it. DaimlerChrysler AG is moving to cash in on its momentum in North America to create some space between Chrysler Group and its traditional rivals - the troubled General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. The Chrysler Group is expected to announce officially today that it plans to build the production version of the Dodge Nitro concept on the same assembly line in Toledo, Ohio, now used to build the Jeep Liberty. The announcement will underscore how deft the Chrysler Group has become during the past couple of years at spinning off new variants of its most popular vehicles. While the Nitro will us…

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has made the decision to cut the Chrysler brand in the UK to focus more on Jeep. "We have made a decision to shift our focus away from Chrysler and toward other FCA brands," a Chrysler spokesman told Automotive News. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' deputy UK managing director Karl Howkins told Autocar the decision came down to Chrysler products not being very appealing to UK customers and that the CO2 emissions on their lineup were too high. Chrysler sold the 300, Voyager (Town and Country), and a rebadged versions of the Lancia Delta and Ypsilon. According to the UK’s Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, Chrysler only sold 1,982 vehicles la…

Dodge long ago confirmed that a convertible version of the Challenger was not going to happen, blaming the extreme degree to which the chassis would need stiffening if the roof were removed. Then what did members of the Michigan F-Body Association forum spot riding on a trailer around Auburn Hills, MI, home of Chrysler's headquarters? The pics don't lie, and they're telling us that Dodge did produce at least one Challenger Convertible in Lime Green that never saw the light of day. Numerous tuners have created convertible versions of the Challenger already, many of which debuted at last year's SEMA Show in Las Vegas, but an official version was never shown by Dodge. This o…
