Cadillac
Cadillac, founded in 1902 in Detroit, quickly gained a reputation for precision and innovation, becoming a leader in American luxury vehicles. Acquired by General Motors in 1909, it set standards with iconic models like the Eldorado and DeVille. Though it faced challenges in the modern era, Cadillac has reinvented itself with bold design and a shift toward electric vehicles, now leading GM’s luxury EV efforts with models like the Lyriq and Celestiq.

Could This Be The Next CTS?

That came out of a new ad for the Acadamy of Art University in the February 2006 issue of Automobile magazine. It has some design elements reminicent of current Cadillacs, and it looks to be CTS sized... Is that a clay, scale model for the next CTS? Me? I doubt it. But it grabbed my attention enough to scan it and post it here. (To be honest, it was probably a proposal for a current Cadillac model, but then again...)

Sometimes, you just have to stop, tip your cap, and accept what is awesome. This is one of those times. Better still, you can buy this example of awesomeness and put it in your garage. "It" is a 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz. And it has power T-Tops. Let's repeat that, for those of you who weren't paying attention: POWER T-TOPS. And they work. Picked your jaw off the floor yet? Good. Apparently, only seven prototype cars were built with the ultra-rare, ASC-developed feature. Finished in Colonial Yellow with plush pillow-topped seating, this particular example has 66,775 miles on the clock and a top bid of $5,600 (reserve has not yet been met) as of this writing. Frank…

Comparison Test Review: 2006 BMW 650i vs. 2006 Cadillac XLR-V vs. 2007 Jaguar XK vs. 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL550 vs. 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera Article They placed the XLR-V last, and though at first I said "Figures ," in that group of cars, the XLR-V simply doesn't cut it. The Caddy isn't a bad car, but in a group of those kind of peers the car needs a better interior and better all-around refinement. The only problem I had with the review is C&D's typically snide attitude towards domestics which they can't seem to get rid of, even when the car is outstanding in its own right. Thoughts?

We’ve just got the latest spy photos of the up-and-coming Cadillac BRX crossover, and it looks like we were right - the resemblance between this future luxury sport-utility and the recent Provoq concept are uncanny. So how’s this a Caddy and not a Chevy (Equinox)? We’re seeing a character line down the side of the prototype that starts high at the C-pillar, and runs lower as it progresses towards the front fenders. Also notice the window line that’s outlined in chrome; a similar treatment adorns the new CTS‘ window frames as well. Headlamps appear to be stacked in Cadillac’s “new traditional” style; likewise, we can somewhat see a very sharp edge for the taillamps - ano…

The rumors of the flagship emanating from Cadillac have been written and talked about for the past few years. But as of this week, the flagship appears to be given the green light as evidenced by spy shots. While General Motors has made sure to layer on the cladding to disguise many details of the new flagship, there are a few items we can pick out. For one, the design ideals from the new CTS are very apparent in the flagship's design with sharp-edges and a blocky design. We can also make out the large grille up front. The new flagship is rumored to be riding on GM's new Omega rear-drive platform. Powertrains are up in the air, but we wouldn't be surprised if the twin-t…

With all the talk of a new Saturn and Global RWD for most of GM's other divisions. Not much has been said about Cadillac's future. They've got a good line up now but they CANNOT afford to sit on their laurels. Are all of their replacement programs on Sigma still on track??? I just think it'd be a crying shame if GM began ignoring Cadillac again and the brand started regressing AGAIN.

Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen is known for slipping out little bits of information. Case in point was earlier today when an analyst in a Facebook group said Cadillac would axing the V8 from most of their models aside from Cadillac CTS-V and Escalade. Johan joined the discussion and went on to correct this by stating that there will be a new V8 engine that will be purpose built for Cadillac. In Johan's words, "There absolutely will be another state -of - the -art mega powerful highly efficient new 8- cylinder from Cadillac, besides the CTS- V engine. Purpose designed for Cadillac....the V8 Cadillac is alive and well today, and will be in even better shape tomorrow."…

Despite rave reviews, the Cadillac CTS has been slipping in sales. Sales in July slipped 29 percent, while August saw another 35 percent drop. This is a the opposite of what is happening in the luxury marketplace as sales are currently up six percent. A possible cause to this is the base price of the CTS has climbed $6,000 from the previous model. “While it may have been a terrific car, it may not have been perceived as having earned its stripes for that kind of pricing against the Germans. Cadillac has just not earned its way to charge the kind of premium that the Germans can get,” said Michelle Krebs, senior analyst with Autotrader.com. Uwe Ellinghaus, Cadillac's chie…

The Cadillac XT4 is an important model for the brand as it will give them a competitor in the lucrative compact luxury crossover class. It might also give one of GM's assembly plants some much needed good news. Bloomberg has learned from sources that General Motors has started producing test versions of the Cadillac XT4 at their Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City. This possibly hints that production of the XT4 could take place here. A GM spokesman declined to comment when asked about this. The Fairfax plant has been hit hard by the decline in sales for midsize sedans. Home to the Chevrolet Malibu, the plant has seen the third shift cut last year as Malibu sal…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 20, 2013 The Cadillac Elmiraj concept made quite the splash last week at Pebble Beach with a number of people talking about it. It could be that the Elmiraj could make the transfer from show car to production car. Automotive News had the chance to speak with Cadillac's senior vice president of global operations, Bob Ferguson. Ferguson said that the Elmiraj “is very doable." "Sometimes you go through these exercises to make a design statement. This car is marketable. It's practical enough to be put through the production process," said Ferguson. "Our dealers really want a vehicle like this." If given the green li…

Cadillac has been a hot topic of late, due to a number of key items such as the appointment of Johan de Nysschen, the nomenclature change, and the move to New York. Speaking with Reuters, Johan de Nysschen spoke about what the future holds for the luxury brand. A key part of de Nysschen's plan for Cadillac is to expand the lineup with the introduction of five to ten models by 2020. One of those models is a range-topping luxury sedan that will go on sale at the end of the decade and likely will be called CT8 or CT9. This model will compete with the likes of long-wheelbase models and has been signed off by him. de Nysschen also talked and hinted at some of the other mode…

Yeah, you want to be me. j/k :P I stopped by Dimmitt Cadillac in Clearwater today to see if they had and literature on the '06 DTS. Better than taht, they had a black one out front. Cool. I go in and ask around and, well, they've got the car, but no brochures yet; they're on order. However, the man and woman in the lobby directed me to a young lady who offered to show me the car. Uh, sure! So, my early impression of it is that I really do like it. The redone front and rear clips make the DTS look smaller than the '05 even though its an inch bigger. No uneven gaps, nice soft-touch materials, and the Northstar purrs like a kitten. So, we're …

OK, the Jaguar XF 5.0 Supercharged got into an accident and I got an ATS 2.5 from Hertz as a loaner until it gets fixed. Here's my impression after a couple of days with it. THE GOOD Cabin appointments are better than the SRX or the Gen II CTS. Tight, nice textures, sharp (HD) displays, very good seat comfort and even the base car's BOSE stereo is very decent. And, for the first time they are not cutting corners and under tucked that headliner between it's edge and the screen! The aluminum trim with brushed, bead blasted and polished textures all on the same piece is as nice as they come. The overall perceived interior quality and posh is better than the F30 3-series. …

Is it feasible to create a sort of "electrochromatic" adjustable tint for all the windows of a car? I noticed the new Ferrari Superamerica has this feature for the roof panel and thought about how cool it would be to be able to dictate how dark or light the windows get. I'm guessing it would be an expensive item to create, but maybe we'll see this on the ULS. I've looked at the new S Class, which is being praised for it's rather boring innovations. Where are the real innovations though?

Will the new Cadillac CT6 have the rakish, expressive styling of the Elmiraj show car, or will it be a conservative evolution of the luxury brand’s current design language? While those questions will linger probably until the CT6 is unveiled later in 2015, AUTOMOBILE has learned this about the sedan, which uses General Motors’ new Omega full-size rear-wheel-drive platform: It will have an aluminum body. The Cadillac CT6, which will be a bit smaller than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class but larger than the midsize CTS, also will be the first to use an engine, or engines, from GM’s upcoming four-/six-/eight-cylinder family. Cadillac's infotainment system has been the bane of automotive writers and owners. CUE has been described as being difficult annoying to use, part of this due to the touch-sensitive 'buttons' which doesn't always recognized when pressed. But it seems Cadillac is going back to basics in terms of their infotainment system. Spy photos of the upcoming XT4's interior have made their way onto various sites today. Underneath the infotainment screen, there are rows of physical buttons for the climate control and various safety functions. We can also make out a controller behind the transmission, which may provide another method of controlling the infotainment system. Other d…

Cadillac SRX Test date 24 January 2007 Price when new £29,895 What's new? Cadillac was uncharacteristically quick to the seven-seat crossover market. Its SRX was among the first examples of the species to go on sale in the UK back in late 2005. However, until now it's only been available in left-hand-drive form; as of March, you'll be able to get a proper right-hooker, and that's not the only improvement. What's it like? Firstly, huge advances have been made with the SRX in the quality of its cabin. Its fascia is now much more appealing to the eye and, covered in carefully-stitched leather and soft-touch plastics, it also feels better than almost any America…

Cadillac has a legitimate contender on its hands with the CTS. The luxury sedan is selling pretty well considering the down market, and it will soon be joined by wagon and coupe variants in the not too distant future. Beyond the CTS, though, Cadillac's car offerings have been less successful. According to The Detroit Bureau, Cadillac is hoping to improve its standing by bookending the CTS with a smaller BMW 3-Series fighter and an all-new flagship. The website quotes Cadillac Marketing Chief Steve Shannon as saying that a sub-CTS is 24-30 months away. Cadillac designers are evidently working on sedan, hatchback, wagon, and convertible variants, although it is unclear wh…

This week, we bring you a couple more items from the VP's wishlist. Edmunds had the chance to talk with Ferguson at the Detroit Auto Show and he said that he would like to have a diesel engine for most of the lineup in this decade. "I think that would speed our growth in Europe, and it would help us with environmental issues here and in Asia," said Ferguson. A good candidate for a diesel engine would be the new Escalade Ferguson went onto say. "I would love to see it in that time frame, but I can't commit to it. I thin…

I'd love to be a product manager for Cadillac. IF they have the engineering resources, then they should definitely launch an assault with a wide range of vehicles off the stellar Sigma platform instead of the upcoming Zeta platform. Keep the Sigma platform exclusive to Cadillacs and use the Zeta platform for the mainstream brands (Holden, Chevy, Pontiac, & Buick). Instead of calling the CTS-based coupe, the CTC, they should call it the CSC for C-series Sport Coupe and CSW for C-series Sport Wagon. Do the same thing with the BLS-based coupe and call it the BSC for B-series Sport Coupe? How's that sound? Personally, I don't think a B-series range fits in with Cad…

October 1, 2013 Drew Dowdell Managing Editor - CheersandGears.com Photography provided by General Motors Cadillac released some teaser pictures of the upcoming Escalade SUV due to be unveiled on October 7th in New York. From what we can see, the interior has been brought in to the family look shared by the Cadillac ATS and Cadillac CTS sedans. The interior features a cut and sewn interior and attractive deep grain accents. We are somewhat disappointed to see that the Escalade maintains a column mounted shifter however. Click Picture to Enlarge On the technology side, the Escalade gains a new TFT Gauge cluster, and Cadillac's CUE Infotainment system. O…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 2, 2012 General Motors has been quiet on the new Cadillac ELR since announcing it would go into production for the 2014 model year. However, Car & Driver has uncovered some information that shines some light of what we could expect of Cadillac’s new extended-range EV. It’s been bandied about that ELR would share the same Voltec powertrain used in the Chevrolet Volt, but rumor has it that the ELR will swap the current 1.4L engine and use a naturally aspirated variant of Opel’s newly-developed Ecotec MGE engine. The Ecotec MGE engine is the base for a future family of low-emissions, direct-injection four-cylinder …

Cadillac has announced new details in the brand’s transformation to an electric future and a transformative EV customer experience, including ordering information, pricing and EPA-estimated range for the 2023 LYRIQ RWD. Cadillac also announced a special charging offer, designed to simplify the charging experience for LYRIQ customers. “These are important steps for Cadillac, as we make good on our promise to deliver an EV offering more than 300 miles of range and move toward an all-electric portfolio by 2030,” said Global Cadillac Vice President Rory Harvey. “Cadillac will define the future of luxury transportation through its range of forthcoming EVs, an…

Here are three option packages I hope Cadillac will offer on all their products which (I believe) will set them apart from the Japanese and German competition in an uniquely American way. Smart Glass Package -- $3000 (electrically adjustable tint and privacy glass with 99.9% UVA/UVB blocking) World's most advanced automotive glass green house All side windows are acoustic sandwiches (like that you find on a Malibu's front windows) but with a few additional tricks It has three films on the inside of the acoustic sandwich layer. Electrochromic dimming allows the side, moonroof and rear glass to be varied from 5% to 95% tint with a touch of a button or dial Automatic mode…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com January 20, 2012 Cadillac is hoping the third time is the charm with their entrance into the European market. The company told Autocar this week, they will build a RHD CTS-V for the United Kingdom as a start to a renewed commitment to taking markets outside U.S. more seriously. Currently the CTS-V is only offered in LHD, which means UK customers are locked out. “We’re geared up for right-hand drive now. We’re working on it.” GM Marketing Chief Joel Ewanick said to Autocar. Alongside the CTS-V’s conversion, Cadillac includes the ATS, its 3-Series warrior, as part of their commitment. Ewanick has faith in GM’s European…

Cadillac Taking Some Lessons From BMW For The ATS William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 16, 2011 Cadillac wants the ATS to succeed badly not only in North America, but worldwide. So they're are studying the big dog in the compact luxury class; the BMW 3-Series. According to Autoblog, GM has brought in various 3-Series models and stripped them down to their bare metal. The reason; to figure out what makes the 3-Series tick and how they can implement it into the ATS. It makes you wonder why didn't they think of this sooner, but no better time is better than the present. Hopefully, GM takes what they learn from tear downs and utilize this …

For almost a decade, Cadillac has been using a three-letter naming system which is (insert letter here) followed by T and S. Small sedans such as the ATS start towards the beginning of the alphabet while larger sedans such as the XTS go towards the end. However, not all of Cadillac's vehicles follow this. For example, the SRX crossover and Escalade. Many complain that Cadillac's nomenclature is confusing and will only get worse when more models are added. Cadillac's marketing chief Uwe Ellinghaus is one of them. "There's no doubt with an expanding product portfolio we need to revise our entire nomenclature," Ellinghaus told reporters at Geneva. How Cadillac plans to ch…

Article Date posted: 10-19-2006 DETROIT — General Motors has conceived plans for a compact entry-level Cadillac to help raise awareness of the brand and drive sales higher in Europe. Or at least it is if you believe the company's product boss, Bob Lutz. Designed to sit beneath the BLX, the company's existing front-wheel-drive entry-level model built by Saab in Sweden and sold across Europe, the new hatchback model is planned to sit on a secret new rear-wheel-drive platform. Details about the new platform are sketchy, although it is likely to be engineered by GM unit Holden in Australia. That's the same company responsible for the Zeta structure planned to serve as the…

The last time Cadillac offered a diesel engine was back in the early eighties and was a horrid engine, tarnishing Cadillac's reputation and vehicles. But now, Cadillac is once again thinking about a diesel engine. Don Butler, Cadillac’s marketing vice president said in a interview at the LA Auto Show that Cadillac was considering a diesel engine for vehicles sold outside the United States. He added a diesel engine “could be a potential hedge in the U.S. because of diesel’s great torque, great performance with great efficiency.” “We absolutely mean it when we say we aim to compete with the best of the best without compromises. And if that means making the right powertrai…

I seem to notice the DTSs on the road. To me, they look particularly good in lighter mettalic colors - silver, ice blue, seafoam green...those types of colors. I am really impressed that, overall, Cadillac has put out good-looking cars for at least 5 years now. The DTS is my favorite by a wide margin. The styling is nicely proportioned and will withstand the test of time. I think that angular styling will always win over bulbuous/rounded styling over the long-haul. It's for that reason that I don't like any of the "rounded" cars (Enclave, Charger, Dodge trucks, etc). Look how Americans still long for the cars with classic angular looks (the Cutlasses of the 70s a…

SPY SHOTS! Cadillac CTS Diesel Spotted Undergoing Testing Link to Original Article @ World Car Fans No, this isn't a half clapped-out Cadillac CTS. Infact, it's a new diesel version of the CTS undergoing testing on European soil. The oil-burning CTS is being tested on the European continent due to its abundance of engineers with experience of diesel technology and has been thought up to tackle the increasing diesel-powered segment in the States, as well as to offer a viable alternative to petrol CTS models in world markets. Our source suggests that the 1.9-litre turbodiesel unit used in the BLS is likely not to make the Stateside CTS line-up, with the introduction of …

Cadillac Ready for Right-Hand Drive CTS Production By Herb Shuldiner | Link to Original Article @ Wards Auto | Sep 26, 2007 9:17 AM NEW YORK – The strike late Monday morning by the United Auto Workers union is putting a crimp in General Motors Corp. plans to launch right-hand-drive Cadillac CTS production for export markets. The union called a nationwide strike at GM plants after it failed to reach a new contract with the auto maker in time to meet a self-imposed 11 a.m. deadline Monday. RHD versions of the new CTS, revamped for ’08, were to begin rolling down the line at GM’s Lansing, MI, assembly plant this week. Among markets slated to get the RHD models are Au…

Test Drive: 2016 Cadillac ATS-V takes on the BMW M3by Horatiu Boeriu When Cadillac unveiled the ATS-V at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the automotive world was eager to see how it fares against the new BMW M3 and M4. After all, the ATS-V used the almighty E90/E92 M3 as a benchmark in order to build a sports car that doesn’t have to compromise between driving on the road and on the track. To see how the ATS-V stacks up against the F80 M3 and F82 M4, we headed to Road America race track in Wisconsin, with a pit stop in Milwaukee for some back-roads driving. Before jumping in the car, we spent some time with Cadillac’s folks to learn more about the development of the ATS-V T…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 10, 2012 Its been a few months since we last heard anything about the rumored Omega RWD platform that could be underpinning future Cadillac flagships. Our last report in September said a sedan and hard top are in the works and will be appearing sometime in 2015. A new report from Car and Driver says GM has a few Omega vehicles on the way, with the first one arriving sometime in 2015. Omega will take hold of the larger RWD vehicles ranging from a midsize luxury sedan (CTS, 5-Series, E-Class) up to length of 207 inches (about the same length of an Audi A8L). We knew that the Cadillac ELR would be driving off into the sunset, but we didn't know when. "I plan to continue admiring it as one of the most beautiful cars on four wheels. But we don't plan further investment" in the coupe, said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen back in February. This lead many to believe that Cadillac was going to keep the ELR until the end of the 2016 model year. That would not be the case as General Motors quietly stopped production in the same month. “Cadillac ELR production recently concluded. A very small quantity of ELR units remain available at dealers today,” said Cadillac Product Communications Manager David Caldwell in a stat…

Many of you might remember the VERY heated debate that took place between Croc and I back when the Escalade made it's debut in which I argued vehemently against the new 'slade stating that I thought it had lost the "IT" factor. In that debate Croc said that I often end up eating crow because of my stubborn and unwaivering opinions. So I'm here today to be a good sport and say serve up the crow because I looked at a new Escalade in the flesh today for the first time. All I have to say is; WOW! I was very impressed and encouraged by the new Tahoe. I am equally impressed and encouraged by the new Yukon (Which while VERY nice is a little too feminine for me---NOT a bad th…

Automakers try their hardest to keep new models under wraps for the longest time to keep the prying eyes of competitors and the media. But Cadillac is trying something a bit different. According to Automotive News, Cadillac will be revealing new vehicles about six or seven months ahead from the start of production. Currently, Cadillac reveals new vehicles about two to three months ahead. Why are they doing this? This is part of a push by Cadillac to work on improving the quality of new vehicles. Covering vehicles with camouflage hinders testing of aerodynamics and cooling systems in the real world. "If we want to achieve different results, we also have to be wil…
