  1. General Motors will begin importing the Colorado and Silverado pickups into China next year, but you'll only be able to buy them in select markets. Automotive News explains that many Chinese cities have bans on pickups for the fear of aggravating air pollution and causing more traffic issues. But earlier this year, the Chinese Government lifted the ban in four provinces - Henan, Hebei, Liaoning, and Yunnan - in an effort to jumpstart sales of domestic pickups. GM sees an opportunity with this and wants to explore it. But there is a major downside to this. Since GM will be importing the trucks, they'll be hit with 25 percent tariff by the Chinese Government. Source…

I admit it ... I'm not all that enthusiastic about Chevrolet's current lineup, given that Chevrolet is offering FWD versions of what they claim to be the malibu, impala and monte carlo. So, I'm not sure what exactly possessed me to visit Huntley (IL) Chevrolet ... the dealership that showcases a '49 Chevrolet in its showroom ... this past Friday night. I think it was a combination of curiosity, the employee discount's final hours, and that I was itching to get into a showroom again. I test drove a Cobalt during my short time there and was pleasantly surprised/impressed. My eyes also captured a glimpse of an '06 impala. Yes, I felt disdain/di…

A spy photographer has gotten some up close photos of the next Corvette ZR1. Engineers have done their best to cover up the front, but there are some details that can be pulled out. First are the large vents on the bumper and a massive air intake. All of that air is needed if there is a 700 horsepower 6.2L supercharged V8 under the hood (according to rumor) along with massive brakes. We're guessing there is also some venting on the hood to provide additional cooling. The back features small uprights for a large rear wing (s…

Car buyers often follow his example, buying the same kind of car they had in their youth, either as a restoration project or in the form of a new nostalgia model from the same manufacturer. The question now for the domestic car industry is whether such cars can also serve to recapture their glory days, when the car makers commanded huge market share with hot models that future owners sketched in study hall, or plastered on the inside of their lockers. Ford has remained in this sporty coupe segment since its introduction of the Mustang…

  26. In a case of what appears to be semantics, Chevy has revealed that the Camaro will now be a 2010 model, rather than a 2009 model. The semantic part is that the car will go on sale in the spring of 2009, yet still be called a 2010 Camaro. The reason the car won't go on sale earlier in 2009 is because Chevy says "it would have meant a short model run before changeover to "10 production". So we aren't sure how the car could go on sale earlier in 2009 unless Chevy began selling it in the rather un-Camaro-like season of winter. We also aren't sure why it matters whether they call it a 2009 or a 2010 -- people just want to take deliveries of their Camaros already. And we aren…

Anyone know if it would be possible to "special order" a new Camaro build with a factory color from another vehicle? I'd be willing to pay a bit extra. 62. A recent view of another thread (RE: redesigned shifter on the Caprice PPV), prompted me to write about a pet peeve of mine: why does GM insist on configuring its new cars with the headlight controls on the left hand stalk, while mounting wiper controls on the right hand stalk? As owners of a 2008 Impala LT, one of the main drawing factors to our car were the driving characteristics of the Impala, plus the familarity of the HVAC, stereo, and wiper controls. As design configurations become more standardized and generic, so too, do cars become more and more indistinguishable. The interior is even the gray color scheme! This is a great example of what discerning Americans getting a chance to see the competition side by side pick the Chevy above the competition!

  66. When it comes to designing a vehicle, comprises must be made. If you want a vehicle to have a sharp profile, that means giving up a bit of interior space and glass area for example. The upcoming Chevrolet Bolt EV is no exception to this. Automotive News reports that designers tasked with designing the production Bolt gave up some aerodynamic efficiency to improve overall interior space. The Bolt has a drag coefficient of 0.32, while the new Toyota Prius has a drag coefficient of 0.24. “It’s a disaster for aero,” said Stuart Norris, lead designer on the Bolt. To compensate for the poor aerodynamics, Norris and his team at GM's South Korea design studio by emplo…

They would not test a prius the same way. again, biased edmunds. but read it and get your own take. they can't stand how well executed it drives so they rigged the story to find as many ways to talk negatively about it as they could.

I think we all new this day was coming sooner rather than later but... Chevrolet Sonic Discontinuted I've been weirdly drawn to this car ever since the upgrade and name change from Aveo back in 2012. Never owned one and probably never will but they do have a pull for me for some reason. I prefer the exterior of the pre-refresh version but actually like the more traditional interior of the current one better. If only they would have stuck a 1.6T with 180-200 hp in the RS version! Basically a Fiesta ST competitor. Obviously that wasn't enough to save the Fiesta either but it would have been fun for us enthusiasts.

Its been a long time for us here North of the Border. The US was hogging all the Camaro allocation and Canadian dealers were left with a slow trickle of availability. Finally my dealership and a few others have unspoken for units and I might actually get the chance to drive one. First to come: Black-on-Black 2 SS with the RS package, 20" wheels, cyber grey stripe kit, HID headlights, sunroof and all the glorious standard features of the 2SS model. If it was not for this recession I would consider buying it for myself. My wife might not like it but at least I would be single with a Camaro :-) We also have a 1LT model coming in unsold which with over 300 HP would blo…

6th month update for Volt 1712. Summer went by uneventfully. I continue to drive Monday - Friday gas free with bit of gas used on the weekends. So far I've traveled 5930 miles, 4170 electric and 1760 on gas (70% electric). For the 1760 gas miles the Volt used 42.5 gallons of gas for an average of 41.4 MPG. My overall mileage is 139 MPG, factoring in the cost of electricity it's roughly 89 MPGe. The bulk of gas used was for two long distance trips. One, in July, from CT to the Outer Banks of NC. That round trip was approx. 900 miles. The trip down averaged 44 MPG, the trip home 46 MPG. Those numbers include the 40 miles or so of electric miles at the beginning of …

More Details On The Camaro ZL1 William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com October 25, 2011 GM has been very open on releasing details for the Camaro ZL1. But certain nitty-gritty details weren't coming out about the car, until now. A Chevrolet Dealer recently spilled the guts on the ZL1 ordering brochure at the Camaro5 fourms and we now know the official numbers and so much more. As was talked about before, the Camaro ZL1 will arrive with a 6.2L V8 producing 580 horsepower, at 6,000 rpms, along with 556 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpms. Power goes through either a six-speed manual (standard), or a six-speed automatic with TAPshift steering wheel …

  79. Click Here Honestly their nitpicks are a little annoying such as the Vortec Max naming but overall, they liked the truck. I think the most impressive thing I read besides the hp and torque #'s which we all knew already was that it recorded an interior sound level of 65.2 decibles, more quiet than an Audi A6. Nice job there. The longer braking distance is slightly disappointing but we'll have to wait for other publisher's braking tests to see if the results are consistent. The looks are slowly growing on me more every time I see it, and I hope it does well in Edmunds' long-term fleet.

  80. I figured some one would post this. The National Geographic Channels Ultimate Factories went to GM Warren fab shop and showed one of the Volt prototypes being built. It was a cool show to see them at work in the shop putting the car together. But it also showed the Volt in detail on construction and many of the parts that go into it. Watch for a replay as this will be shown again. I did not know about it till I got a internal e mail from GM telling employees about it.

  84. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 30, 2012 Chevrolet has let loose the pricing on the 1LE package for the Camaro SS and Camaro ZL1 convertible. We'll start with the 1LE. Earlier this month, Chevrolet said the 1LE package would start under $40k. Well, it appears Chevrolet has kept that. The 1LE package adds $3500 to the base price of the 1SS and 2SS models, meaning the pricetag on a 1SS with the 1LE package begins at $37,035 (includes a $900 destination charge). As for the ZL1 convertible, that begins at $60,445 (includes a $900 destination charge). Like the ZL1 coupe, the convertible comes with the same 580 HP, 556 lb-ft of torque, supercharged 6.2…

The vehicle of the year designation is important to automakers, who often use Motor Trend's endorsement in their advertising. The redesigned Toyota Camry, the hottest-selling car in…

Yes, styling, brand image and engineering excellence play huge roles. But, ultimately, the best selling cars are often not the most stylish, prestigious and well engineered. When it comes to sporty cars it is important that we recognize that they appeal most to younger people who are starting out in life and have limited financial resources. Before we get to making a car look pretty, marketing it properly and making sure it doesn't break, I believe that it is important that we define it in such a way that is is fast enough, agile en…

I spoke specifically of the Chevy HHR and Impala, Pontiac Torrent, Hummer H3, Pontiac G6 Coupe and the Solstice. It appears that at least some of you have taken me up on that, because those vehicles are getting attention in dealerships. The HHR in particular has been making a lot of headway in the marketplace. Chevy dealers are telling us they can’t get enough of them; they are selling them at about three times the rate they’d ordered them. About half of those sales have been conquest sales – from customers who pr…

So, I made a chop of what I hope to one day see, a Saleen Camaro (please comment on this chop's design HERE): Then I did a little Saleen S281 (Mustang) research. S281 stands for the Saleen version of Ford's 281 cubic inch 4.6L V8 in the Mustang GT. The Saleen S281's performance specs are as follows (stage: "name of stage" -- horsepower/torque): Ford Mustang GT -- 300/320 S281 Stage 1: "3-Valve" -- 330/340 S281 Stage 2: "Supercharged" -- 435/425 S281 Stage 3: "Extreme" -- 550/500 However, the Mustang only uses one V8 and we're counting on the Camaro having two from the factory. Therefore, I'm going to use the lower-end V8 for the Saleen version of our beloved 5th G…
