Cadillac

Cadillac, founded in 1902 in Detroit, quickly gained a reputation for precision and innovation, becoming a leader in American luxury vehicles. Acquired by General Motors in 1909, it set standards with iconic models like the Eldorado and DeVille. Though it faced challenges in the modern era, Cadillac has reinvented itself with bold design and a shift toward electric vehicles, now leading GM’s luxury EV efforts with models like the Lyriq and Celestiq.

Cadillac says the PHEV will be offered as its own unique package within the CT6 lineup and feature an equipment list similar to the Premium trim. We have also learned how far the CT6 PHEV can travel on EV power alone - about 30 miles. The CT6 PHEV uses a turbocharged 2.0-lite…

2006 Cadillac XLR-V Pushing the lmits? by Paul A. Eisenstein (2006-03-20) If there's been any bright spot for troubled General Motors in recent years, it's the nascent revival of the automaker's once-formidable Cadillac Division. There was a time, not that many decades ago, when Caddy called the shots in the luxury market, but in recent years, the "Standard to the World" has had to take a back seat to more posh import contenders, like Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Yet with the introduction of its edgy "Art & Science" styling theme, Cadillac showed that it might be down, but it certainly wasn't out. Though it's by no means a world-beater, the first production mod…

New Cadillac Escalade shines By Anita Lienert WASHINGTON, D.C. -- One of the most critical moments in the redesign of the Cadillac Escalade happened three years ago when the General Motors premium brand rented a Hollywood film studio for an evening, set up a full bar and invited A-list celebrities, athletes and rappers to preview an early version of the 2007 model. Oscar winner Adrien Brody -- who will soon take delivery of a 2007 Escalade EXT -- and the rest of the glittering crowd said they loved the new Escalade's added chrome and the exterior details borrowed from the legendary Cadillac Sixteen show car. But they also had a warning: The 20-inch wheels, the biggest…

But GM President Mark Reuss and Cadillac President Steve Carlisle said they are looking into various options to keep the CT6 on sale in the U.S. The two explained that model was never meant to be on the chopping with other models such as the Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Impala. So why do many people consider the ELR a competitor to the Model S? Probably from a quote from former GM CEO Dan Akerson back in September. While the Cadillac CT6 is a bit bigger than a short-wheelbase BMW 7 Series, we expect the so-called CT8 to be slightly larger than the long-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The CT8, like the CT6, will ride on the new Omega platform, which employs GM’s patented process for welding aluminum. If the CT6 is any guide, the CT8 will be hundreds of pounds lighter than the S-Class. But the CT8 will be more than a long-wheelbase version of the CT6. Is it a new CTS? SRX? New models? What? I do not want Caddy to fall into neglect, while GM is trying to right the rest of the ship. I figure they are good for the next year to 18 months, but after that they will need to keep the block busters coming. The SRX (Which I also own) is beginning to fall behind, the CTS line was never expanded and the Northstar needs to continue to be improved.

But now, Cadillac is once again thinking about a diesel engine. Don Butler, Cadillac’s marketing vice president said in a interview at the LA Auto Show that Cadillac was considering a diesel engine for vehicles sold outside the United States. He added a diesel engine “could be a potential hedge in the U.S. because of diesel’s great torque, great performance with great efficiency.” “We absolutely mean it when we say we aim to compete with the best of the best without compromises. And if that means making the right powertrai…

The G6 GXP coupes are good till 2013 but many teams are already looking got a new car to move to. Most still want the GM power but have little to chose from for a Coupe body. Reports have the Camaro as a problem for the series as the roof line c pillar will not work with the tubs and needs to be relocated. NHRA is not willing to let them reshape the roof. The cars are not stock but they would like to keep them at least close in the green house area. This is where the CTS V comes in. The C pillar and roof line works well to adapt to the …

  59. Today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Cadillac unveiled the refreshed Cadillac CT5 sedan. CT5 retail sales have been on an upswing of late, increasing over 35%. In a time when sedan sales are stagnating or disappearing entirely, Cadillac's positive numbers have given hope that the luxury sedan market isn't quite dead yet. The refresh of the CT5 begins with the exterior. A new larger, bolder grille is flanked by new vertically stacked headlamps and Cadillac's signature fangs. The LED light clusters feature an animated startup sequence that "celebrates" you as you approach the car. Two new exterior colors are available; Deep Space Metallic…

Cadillac XTS Struts It Stuff At LA William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com October 20, 2011 The Cadillac XTS will appear in the flesh at next month's LA Auto Show. The car will have Cadillac's new CUE infotainment system which will also appear the new ATS sedan and SRX crossover. We don't know what engine will be under the hood, though a version of the 3.6L DI V6 is a safe assumption. Source: Inside Line

  61. There has been a lot of talk about Cadillac working on a three-row crossover, but no substance to this. That changed this week as spy photos of the three-row crossover, possibly named the XT6 came out. The test mule is heavily camouflaged, but we can pull some details out. The front end looks somewhat similar to the recently launched XT4 with a large grille. Headlights appear to be off-the-shelf projector units - we're expecting different units on the production model. Around back, the tailgate design is similar to the XT5. As Car and Driver pointed out, the XT6's roofline shape is alike to the Chevrolet Traverse. Underpinning the XT6 is expected to be the long-…

With all the talk of GM division crossover, I've always said that Cadillac wouldn't have to worry about the likes of Buick stepping on their heels if they were aiming at the right competitors. Apparently one of their should be competitors is feeling the heat from the new CTS, their new baby car sure looks a lot like it in design characteristics. You can bet that the interior of this will be a level for Cadillac to envy though. Link To Leftlane Article

  63. It's going to be hard for Cadillac to live up to its longtime billing as "The Standard of the World" if the brand isn't available in much of it. Despite this, General Motors has decided to pull Cadillac from nearly half of the 25 European markets (not including the U.K. or Russia) in which it currently sells. Along with Cadillac, the HUMMER and Corvette brands will also be affected. The problem isn't directly GM's fault, as the automaker relies on a Dutch-based third-party company called Kroymans Import Europe to distribute these brands across the Atlantic. Due to slow sales caused by the global economic downturn, Kroymans has found itself with an "acute liquidity short…

GM said the long-wheelbase '07 Escalade ESV will go on sale in May, with its suggested retail price unchanged from 2006 at $59,680, including destination, for the AWD model. The standard Escalade AWD went on sale last month and is priced at $57,280. The two-wheel-drive version of the standard Escalade won't reach dealers until August; its sticker price will remain a…

  65. Article Date posted: 10-19-2006 DETROIT — General Motors has conceived plans for a compact entry-level Cadillac to help raise awareness of the brand and drive sales higher in Europe. Or at least it is if you believe the company's product boss, Bob Lutz. Designed to sit beneath the BLX, the company's existing front-wheel-drive entry-level model built by Saab in Sweden and sold across Europe, the new hatchback model is planned to sit on a secret new rear-wheel-drive platform. Details about the new platform are sketchy, although it is likely to be engineered by GM unit Holden in Australia. That's the same company responsible for the Zeta structure planned to serve as the…

Autoblog got their hands on pictures of the next SRX, possibly wearing the XT5 nameplate. We can tell this mule is early in the development process due to all of camouflage on it. There are a few clues we can pull from the pictures such as the model apparently having grille similar to the ATS Coupe, and a sloping rear hatch that is being hidden by a box. The XT5 is expected to use a new scalable platform called C1XX (Chi for short). This new platform is expected to underpin a number of cr…

But the folks at Automobile Magazine got their hands on some new spy shots of the XT5 undergoing cold weather testing. As we have previously reported, the XT5 will utilize the upcoming C1XX - Chi platform. Judging from the new spy shots, it looks like the XT5 will keep the slanted grille, but it looks like it will get stacked LED lights. It also appears XT5's profile will become somewhat shorter, but grow in terms of interior space. Powertrains are expected to be the 2.0L turbo-four and 3.6L V6, while front and all-wheel drive will handle getting that po…

  73. The saying goes there is no replacement for displacement, but at Cadillac that is no longer the case when it comes to the trunk badges. Starting in 2020 on the XT6, Cadillac will drop the engine displacement badge from their vehicles. Instead, they will use a number that represents torque in newton-meters and rounded up to the next number that ends in 00 or 50. Turbo models will get a T, while V-series models will retain their V in place of the number. For the XT6, that means its 271 lb-ft of torque converts to 373 newton-meters and then gets rounded up to 400. Once the scheme rolls out to other models it could look like this: XT4 2.0T - 350T XT5/XT6 3.6 …

The various models and changes have been met with mixed reactions. But the latest move to make Cadillac the lead brand in General Motors' electric car offensive marks a big change. Where the Cadillac STS-V falls short is on the inside: its feels as though the materials are done on the cheap. I don’t know if it is the choice of black zebrano-like wood, if it is the quality of the plastic, if it has to do with the light-colored leatherette material. But it just doesn’t work. Today we finally get the details. 519 HP, 3.5-Second Sprint, and NACS Charging While the base Cadillac Optiq already makes 300 horsepower, the OPTIQ-V bumps that up to a robust 519 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque when the car is in Velocity Max mode. That is sufficient to sprint to 60 in just 3.5 seconds. Carrying an 85 kWh battery pack, Cadillac's preliminary range estimate comes in at 275 miles. Naturally, that range would decrease with a lot of Velocity Max driving. For charging, the OPT…

Such a vehicle will also put Caddy in the same field as the McLaren MP4-12C, Lamborghini Gallardo, Lexus LFA, Porsche 912, you name it). This will be a small volume vehicle probably around 2000 units a year and the carbon fiber chassis will probably be outsourced. It'll sell for around $150K. What GM has that the world doesn't is the light, compact, powerful and efficient small block V8. Unlike all the aforementioned cars, the Caddy will save a lot of money on powertrain development allowing it to spend more on the chassis and other finishings while selling the car for r…

The Edmunds news service had a chance to take the new Cadillac CTS-V (which we're driving in upstart New York as we speak) and its supercharged V8 for a spin around GM's Milford proving grounds and brought along its testing gear.
