    Johan stops by Facebook to give someone a talking to.

    Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen is known for slipping out little bits of information. Case in point was earlier today when an analyst in a Facebook group said Cadillac would axing the V8 from most of their models aside from Cadillac CTS-V and Escalade. Johan joined the discussion and went on to correct this by stating that there will be a new V8 engine that will be purpose built for Cadillac. In Johan's words, "There absolutely will be another state -of - the -art mega powerful highly efficient new 8- cylinder from Cadillac, besides the CTS- V engine. Purpose designed for Cadillac....the V8 Cadillac is alive and well today, and will be in even better shape tomorrow."
     
    Now, news of a forthcoming Cadillac V8 isn't breaking news. Johan has previously hinted at a twin-turbo V8 coming for the Cadillac CT6, but it was interesting to see Cadillac's President join in a Facebook discussion and give us more description of the engine. I contacted a Cadillac spokesman about the exchange and he pointed out such an engine will appear in "later in the second half of this decade". So look for Cadillac CT6 to gain a V8 in the 2017-2018 time frame.

    Changes come to Cadillac's Extended-Range Electric Vehicle

    The fate of the Cadillac ELR has been up in the air with no real updates to the model since it was introduced in the 2014 model year, and Cadillac's boss saying there will likely not be a second-generation model. But at least for the time being, Cadillac has introduced some new changes for the 2016 model.
    No real big changes on the ELR's exterior, only a tweaked grille and wreath-less crest. But the powertrain has seen some big changes. New software upgrades boost power output from 207 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque to 233 horsepower and 373 pound-feet. The increase in power drops 0-60 MPH time by 1.5 seconds to 6.4 seconds and top speed is increased to 130 MPH when equipped with the Performance Package and 106 MPH on the standard model.
    All ELR models get a number of changes to the suspension which include a new calibration of the HiPer strut front suspension, stiffer rear axle, and new settings for the Continuous Damping Control system. New for the 2016 ELR is the addition of a optional Performance Package which adds:
    New 20-inch summer-only performance tires – mounted on new sport wheels – that improve lateral grip by nearly 10 percent
    Front Brembo four-piston brake calipers (with the Cadillac script), with 13.6-inch-diameter vented front rotors and 12.4-inch vented rear rotors that improve 60-to-0 mph stopping distance by nearly 12 percent
    Specific calibrations for the Continuous Damping Control and electric power steering systems
    Sport steering wheel with a thicker rim for a sportier feel.

    As for tech, the 2016 ELR boasts OnStar with 4G LTE and standard built-in WiFi, an inductive charge spot on the instrument panel to charge your phone, and the previously optional Driver Assistance package which featured blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert as standard.
    Cadillac says the ELR will go on sale with a price of $58,495 after federal tax credits for electric cars are taken into account.

    2016 ELR Advances with More Power, Technology
    Revised electric drive system increases power and torque by more than 25 percent
    Enhanced handling, steering and braking
    OnStar with 4G LTE and standard built-in Wi-Fi hotspot

    DETROIT – Cadillac today announced the ELR electrified luxury coupe will offer a host of upgrades for the 2016 model year, including boosts in acceleration, driving performance and connectivity.
    Major product upgrades include a more than 25 percent boost in power and torque, faster acceleration that improves 0-60 mph by 1.5 seconds, higher top speed, retuned chassis and steering for better handling, more responsive brakes and a new Performance equipment package.
    “ELR’s combination of leading technology with stunningly attractive design is unlike any other coupe in the luxury segment,” said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen. "The upgraded ELR offers enhanced driving performance for buyers seeking uncompromising luxury and exquisite craftsmanship with electrification technology. It is unique in the luxury category, in that it completely eliminates conventional concerns over driving range, which has been the Achilles’ heel of other competitors in the luxury segment.”
    Distinguished by a new grille and Cadillac’s new crest, the 2016 ELR, which features the first application of extended-range electric vehicle technology by a full-line luxury automotive brand, will start at $58,495 net pricing after U.S. federal tax credits.
    The 2016 ELR’s steering and suspension upgrades include:
    Revised calibration of the HiPer Strut front suspension
    Increased front spring rates and a stiffer rear axle
    Stiffer bushings for the front lower control arms, cradle mounts and Watts link in the rear suspension, for more precise control with no loss of ride quality
    Revised calibrations for the Continuous Damping Control system
    Front Damper Rebound Spring added
    New steering calibration tuned to complement the revised chassis and suspension systems
    Revised brake hardware and system calibration for improved application feel.

    A new optional Performance Package elevates the ELR’s driving experience further with greater handling and braking capability – and a more direct, linear feel for the driver. The ELR Performance Package includes:
    New 20-inch summer-only performance tires – mounted on new sport wheels – that improve lateral grip by nearly 10 percent
    Front Brembo four-piston brake calipers (with the Cadillac script), with 13.6-inch-diameter vented front rotors and 12.4-inch vented rear rotors that improve 60-to-0 mph stopping distance by nearly 12 percent
    Specific calibrations for the Continuous Damping Control and electric power steering systems

    ELR propulsion and drive technology
    All 2016 ELRs contain software upgrades to the battery system improving power and acceleration, with EV range growing on the base model.
    Additionally, the 2016 ELR has a modified Sport mode that enables the propulsion system to combine engine and electric motor power to take the ELR from 0-60 in 6.4 seconds, a 1.5 second improvement from the current model.
    ELR continues to offer Regen on Demand, recipient of Green Car Journal’s 2014 Green Car Technology Award. Slightly enhanced for the 2016 model to improve deceleration, Regen on Demand allows the driver to temporarily regenerate energy from the ELR’s momentum into electricity and store in the battery pack for later use.
    Regen on Demand supports a more engaging driving experience by slowing the vehicle when entering a turn to better position it on the exit, much like downshifting with a manual transmission. Regen on Demand is engaged via steering-wheel paddles adapted from traditional performance cars.
    The ELR offers a full driving range of up to 330 miles (530 km), combining pure electric driving and an efficient, range-extending 1.4L gasoline-powered engine-generator. It’s a combination that means most daily commutes will require zero gasoline with zero tailpipe emissions. Longer trips are free from electric-vehicle range anxiety because the ELR’s technology enables the long-distance travel similar to vehicles powered only by gasoline.
    The T-shaped battery pack is located along the centerline of the vehicle, between the front and rear wheels for optimal weight distribution. The 5.5-foot-long (1.6 m), 435-pound (198 kg) pack supplies energy to an advanced electric drive unit capable of 373 lb-ft of instant torque (506 Nm) to propel the vehicle.
    Using only the energy stored in the battery, the ELR will deliver an estimated range of about 39 miles (60 km) of pure electric driving, depending on terrain, driving techniques and temperature. The optional Performance Package reduces EV range by about four miles as a result of the enhanced grip of the 20-inch summer-only tires.
    ELR’s battery can be charged using either a 120- or 240-volt charger. The vehicle can be completely recharged in about five hours using 240V charging, depending on the outside temperature.
    The ELR’s battery is covered by an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty or 10 years/150,000 miles in states following Air Resource Board guidelines.
    Personal technology
    The 2016 ELR will be one of the industry’s most-connected vehicles, with new and enhanced features designed to extend technologies woven into nearly every facet of customers’ lives.
    OnStar with 4G LTE and standard built-in Wi-Fi hotspot provides a mobile hub for drivers and passengers to stay connected. The hotspot is on whenever the vehicle is on and comes with a three-month/three-gigabyte data trial, whichever comes first.
    4G LTE is the most current and fastest mobile data network and the Wi-Fi hotspot supports up to seven connected devices.
    ELR drivers and passengers can also recharge their enabled phones wirelessly with a new magnetic inductive charge spot on the instrument panel. There is no need to plug the phone in for charging, leaving the ELR’s USB ports free for other devices.
    Interior luxury and technology
    For 2016, the Driver Assistance active safety systems, optional on the current ELR, are standard and include side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic alert and Intellibeam headlamps. Lane change alert and a new vehicle security system are also standard. Adaptive cruise control is available.
    Additional interior features include:
    Cut-and-sew interior
    Available Semi-Aniline full leather seating
    Sueded microfiber headliner and supporting trim
    Eight-inch configurable instrument and driver information displays, offering four configurations ranging from elegantly simple to technologically detailed information
    Three USB ports
    Power-assist covered storage/cup holder in the center console
    Fold-down rear seatbacks to accommodate longer items such as skis and golf clubs

    The Next-Gen SRX is expected to show in LA

    The replacement for the Cadillac SRX is expected to be shown this fall, possibly at the LA Auto Show. The Detroit News reports that the next SRX will likely be wearing the XT name, along with a number to designate where it stands in the lineup. Many analysts believe that the SRX replacement will be named the XT5.
    The SRX has proven to be a big seller for the brand since it moved to the front-wheel drive Theta platform. Last year, Cadillac moved 53,578 SRX models. But the model is getting long in the tooth. Sales so far this year have dropped 17.5 percent to 12,294 vehicles.
    "Cadillac's current SRX is one of the oldest products in the segment. The XT5 is part of Cadillac's new nomenclature, and will need to provide some serious features if Cadillac continues to hope to eat into share of the luxury leaders," said Akshay Anand, analyst for Kelley Blue Book.

    2019 Sees the End of the Cadillac XTS and their Livery Business

    Imagine a world where there isn't hearses and limousines wearing the Cadillac badge. According to GM Inside News, that will be happening when production of the XTS ends in 2019.
    Johan de Nysschen, head of Cadillac revealed that when the lifecycle of the XTS ends, there will be no replacement. This is due to the brand realigning their product lineup to better compete with the German automakers. With the upcoming loss of the XTS, this will also signal the end of Cadillac's livery business.
    "We will not have a car that will lend itself to these kind of modifications and we will probably withdrawal from those markets," said de Nysschen.

    Cadillac launches an all new V6 engine family in the 2016 Cadillac CT6.

    [url="http://www.cheersandgears.com/_/cadillac-news/"]Cadillac[/url] released details for two of the engines that will be offered in the [url="http://www.cheersandgears.com/_/cadillac-news/cadillac-ct6-reveals-itself-in-new-commerical-r2655"]2016 Cadillac CT6[/url] today. While both engines share familiar displacements with existing engines at Cadillac and the rest of GM, these new engines are launching an all new engine architecture for Cadillac.

    First up is the all-new 3.6 liter, naturally-aspirated V6. The headline features of the new 3.6 are Active Fuel management and stop/start technology. The Active Fuel Management cuts two of the cylinders during light throttle conditions to save fuel. During idle, vehicles with cylinder deactivation typically need to run all cylinders to maintain expected refinement. The new 3.6 resolves that issue by adding automatic start/stop. These combined technologies contribute to an up to 9% increase in fuel economy.

    Also helping with fuel economy is a new cylinder head design. Intake and exhaust valves are 6% larger and that helps to increase fuel mixture and flow. The new cylinder head and combustion chamber design allow for better low-end torque.

    An all new cooling system send coolant evenly around each cylinder rather than the typical flow back process used today. This allows the water jackets in the head and block to be smaller which also allows for a smaller water pump and less coolant. The smaller water pump requires less energy to drive but when combined with the new cooling system allows for faster warm up and more evenly distributed cooling.

    Cadillac benchmarked the [url="http://www.cheersandgears.com/_/infiniti-news/"]Infiniti[/url] 3.7 liter V6 for quietness and refinement. Using a new cam drive system, a stiffer aluminum block, a 2 stage oil pump, and stiffened structural oil pan all come together to bring the new 3.6 to be up to 4dB quieter at idle.

    The new 3.6 V6 is SAE certified at 335 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque, up from 321 horsepower and 275 lb-ft in the current 3.6.

    This engine will be a Cadillac exclusive engine at launch and for some time after.

    Also gaining all of those improvements and more is a new 3.0 Twin-Turbo V6. At launch, the 3.0 TT will be the only engine made that combines turbo-charging, start-stop, and cylinder deactivation into a single engine.

    The turbo chargers are similar to the ones used in the Cadillac ATS-V. They are low-inertia units that allow for fast spooling and very low throttle lag.

    This new TTV6 is estimated to produce 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque which gives it one of the highest horsepower per liter ratings (133 hp/l) of any DOHC V6. The 400 horsepower rating puts Cadillac's new 3.0TT while above the output of the [url="http://www.cheersandgears.com/_/bmw-news/"]BMW[/url] 740i (315hp) and [url="http://www.cheersandgears.com/_/audi-news/"]Audi[/url] A7 3.0 S/C (310hp).

    The 3.0TT will remain a Cadillac exclusive.

    Both engines will be built at GM's Romulus Powertrain Facility outside of Detroit Michigan and will each be paired with new 8-speed automatics which we will detail in another article.

    Surprise! Cadillac shows off the CT6 in a new ad

    Cadillac has apparently pulled a page of out of the Nissan ad playbook as they have revealed the upcoming 2016 CT6 in a new ad during the Oscars tonight.
    The ad - titled The Daring: No Regrets - features a number folks the worlds of fashion, finance, technology, and film whose common beginnings are contrasted with their exceptional accomplishments. Following this, the ad asks "How dare a 112-year-old carmaker reinvent itself," and out rolls the CT6. The vehicle takes the current styling of the CTS and stretches it out length and width-wise.
    We'll have more information and clearer pictures when the CT6 debuts at the New York Auto Show in April. The ad is below.

    Spying: Cadillac XT5

    We have the latest on the SRX replacement

    Its been a few months since we heard anything about the upcoming Cadillac XT5, the replacement for the SRX crossover. But the folks at Automobile Magazine got their hands on some new spy shots of the XT5 undergoing cold weather testing.
    As we have previously reported, the XT5 will utilize the upcoming C1XX - Chi platform. Judging from the new spy shots, it looks like the XT5 will keep the slanted grille, but it looks like it will get stacked LED lights. It also appears XT5's profile will become somewhat shorter, but grow in terms of interior space.
    Powertrains are expected to be the 2.0L turbo-four and 3.6L V6, while front and all-wheel drive will handle getting that power to the road.
    Its likely we'll see the XT5 debut sometime late in the year.

    Cadillac opens the order books for the ATS-V sedan and coupe

    Are you interested in getting your hands on a Cadillac ATS-V sedan or coupe? We'll you be happy to learn that Cadillac has open the order books at dealers. The hot Cadillac comes with a twin-turbo 3.6L V6 with 455 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. 0-60 MPH takes 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 189 MPH. A six-speed manual is standard, while an eight-speed automatic is an option.
    Pricing for the 2016 ATS-V starts at $61,640 for the sedan and $63,660 for the coupe. Both prices include a destination charge - though we don't know how much. This puts it right in line with BMW M3 and M4 pricing with $62,950 (M3) and $65,150 (M4).
    ATS-Vs begin arriving at dealers later this summer.

    Cadillac Opens Ordering for 2016 ATS-V
    Dual-purpose performance luxury compact designed for the track, touring

    DETROIT – Cadillac dealers have begun accepting orders for the 2016 ATS-V – the brand’s inaugural luxury compact performance car starting production this spring.
    Available in sedan and coupe forms, the twin-turbocharged ATS-V offers a dual-purpose luxury performance experience: a car with true track capability straight from the factory with sophisticated road manners.
    Powered by the segment’s highest-output six-cylinder engine – the Cadillac Twin Turbo rated at 455 horsepower (339 kW) and 445 lb-ft of torque (603 Nm) – the ATS-V achieves 0-60 performance in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 189 mph. The Cadillac Twin Turbo engine is backed by a six-speed manual – with Active Rev Match, no-lift shifting and launch control – or a paddle-shift eight-speed automatic transmission featuring launch control and Performance Algorithm Shift.
    “The V-Series is the ultimate expression of Cadillac’s re-ignited product substance and the passion at the core of our brand,” said Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac president.
    “The ATS-V expands the V-Series lineup, bringing a new kind of performance character to Cadillac. Lightweight, agile and potent, the ATS-V will make an ideal pairing with the larger and even more powerful all-new 2016 CTS-V midsize sedan, which arrives later this summer,” he said.
    In the U.S., the 2016 ATS-V sedan carries a starting price of $61,460 and the ATS-V coupe is priced from $63,660. Consumers can order ATS-Vs now through dealers and begin specifying their own ATS-V online at www.cadillac.com in April.
    Additional performance technologies built into the ATS-V include:
    Brembo high-performance brake system developed for track-day performance capability straight from the factory
    Third-generation Magnetic Ride Control, which delivers 40 percent faster damping response
    Integrated chassis controls that provide balanced performance for touring and the track, including class-exclusive Performance Traction Management

    More than just a desirable road car, the ATS-V will also become Cadillac’s entrant into the world of motorsports. Even before the new car hits the showroom, Cadillac Racing’s new ATS-V.R racecar will begin the Pirelli World Challenge GT 2015 season March 7-8 at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Cadillac Racing is the three-time defending manufacturer’s and driver’s champion in the series, which features legendary marques such as Audi, Ferrari and Porsche.
    The ATS-V will be assembled at the Lansing Grand River assembly plant in Michigan.

    Coming Soon: Cadillac boutique store?

    Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen has a problem with the brand's dealers, specifically how many there are. According to data gathered by Autodata Corp and The Detroit News, Cadillac currently has 928 dealers in the U.S. A large number when compared to competitors in the luxury class such as Audi (281 dealers) and Mercedes-Benz (364). Factor in total sales for year and Cadillac finishes last with each dealer selling an average of 184 vehicles (170,750 vehicles sold for the year). This pales in comparison with the likes of Audi (648 vehicles sold last year per dealer) and Mercedes-Benz (978 vehicles sold last year per dealer).
    "With our very large dealer network … we so fragment the available volume, that many of our stores are unable to reach critical mass in terms of volume and their profitability to afford the investment in the kind of ... facilities that is the custom and practice for the sector," said de Nysschen.
    So what does de Nysschen plan to do about this? Well he isn't saying anything about cutting dealers at the moment. Instead, he is proposing smaller 'boutique' stores which will be separate facilities to have between 2 to 5 vehicles along with a virtual showroom with TV screens and 3-D images. The hope is that this will reduce a phenomenon de Nysschen calls "selling Cadillac out the back door of the Chevrolet store."
    "We want to create a concept that's built around the notion of a small boutique shop. The idea is you don't have to be a large, Taj Mahal mausoleum brand store to be classy and sophisticated and premium. You can do a small two-car showroom with an investment amount that is kind of appropriate to the size of the sales opportunity in their local market, and we harness technology to supplement then what we can offer," said de Nysschen.
    de Nysschen will be presenting this plan to dealers at the 2015 National Automobile Dealers Association conference in San Francisco this weekend.
    IHS Automotive analyst Tom Libby tells The Detroit News that de Nysschen's plan makes some sense as it allows Cadillac to build and grow a brand by separation.
    "It makes sense. It's a challenge to convince the retailer to invest a lot of money. It sounds like a compromise," Libby said of the idea.

    Crossovers and Sedans are what are in the cards for Cadillac

    The past few months has seen Cadillac introduce new products such as the ATS-V and CTS-V. We'll also be seeing Cadillac's CT6 flagship in few months time. But Cadillac's president Johan de Nysschen says more products are on the way.
    Autoblog reports that Cadillac will be introducing eight new products by 2020 as part of a $12-billion investment into the brand. Here is what the brand has in store,
    New SRX in 2016. Will be the first crossover to feature the XT nomeclature
    Smaller sedan to take on the likes of the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA in 2017. Automotive News reports that this new sedan will utilize the Alpha rear-wheel drive platform
    2018 sees a compact crossover that will sit under the SRX
    2020 brings out the S-Class challenger

    There is also talk of a crossover that will sit between the SRX and Escalade, along with introducing new powertrains options such as plug-in hybrids, diesels, and electrics.

    Cadillac Decides To Cut Prices on the CTS to Help Slumping Sales

    15 months ago, Cadillac announced that it would be raising the price of the new CTS. This move worried dealers as it would cause buyers to look away. It seems their fears were founded as sales of the CTS this past year dropped 3.8 percent when compared to last year. Cadillac is doing something about that.
    Automotive News got their hands on a memo issued to Cadillac dealers yesterday which announced that it would reduce sticker prices on most 2015 CTS models by $1,000 to $3,000. It also plans on increasing the amount of standard features in the CTS.
    "We're taking what we've seen are the more desirable optional features for customers and making them more readily available. Once a car has been on the market for a while, it's not unusual to look at the customer behavior and try to optimize for it," said Cadillac spokesman David Caldwell.
    An example of a price cut in action is the CTS Premium Collection equipped with the 3.6L V6. Originally costing $65,765, the model will now have a new price of $62,765.
    The price cuts are shift in strategy for Cadillac. Last September, Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen said that price cuts were off the table. de Nysschen believes the brand needs to charge more to be more in line with the German competitors, along with increasing resale values and improve the brand's image.

    Dreaming Of A Elmiraj-inspired flagship? Sadly, Those Dreams Will Not Come To Fruition.

    If you were hoping that Cadillac would sprinkle some of the design from the Elmiraj concept for the upcoming CT6 flagship, prepare to be disappointed. GM's vice-president of global design, Ed Welburn, tells Automotive News that the CT6 will not be influenced by the Elmiraj. Instead the CT6 will stick with the art and science design theme found on current Cadillacs.
    “I think Elmiraj was more of an influence on some other things we’re working on for Cadillac,” said Welburn. “It’ll be different and it will certainly stand out in the portfolio. But you won’t see a real shift in direction.”
    We'll see if there is a real shift when the CT6 debuts next year at the New York Auto Show.

    What Does Johan de Nysschen See for the Future of Cadillac?

    Since Cadillac has brought in Johan de Nysschen as its new president, the decisions made by him - such as the CT/XT nomenclature and moving some of their staff to New York - have caused many to experience a range of emotions from happiness to outrage. So we don't know how many people are going to feel about de Nysschen's thoughts about Cadillac in the future that he talked with a couple of outlets at the LA Auto Show.
    First up is Reuters who reports that that de Nysschen sees Cadillac selling a $250,000 luxury sedan, but not anytime soon.
    "It is too early today for a $250,000 Cadillac. Fifteen years from now, it won't be," said de Nysschen.
    Next up is Car and Driver who got a flurry of thoughts from de Nysschen. Here's what they got.
    Cadillac is working on an all-new diesel engine that will launch in 2019. The U.S. will be getting this new engine.
    A 911 fighter from Cadillac? de Nysschen says there is a possibility of this, but not till after 2020. (Also, Corvette may have something to say about this as well. -WM)
    The V lineup will be growing to possibly five or six models in the future. One of those models could be an SUV - not the Escalade though.

    What's In Store For Cadillac's Crossover?

    A couple days back, we brought you spy shots of the Cadillac ATS-V without any camouflage. Now we have gotten word of a new set of spy shots for another Cadillac model in the pipeline.
    Autoblog got their hands on pictures of the next SRX, possibly wearing the XT5 nameplate. We can tell this mule is early in the development process due to all of camouflage on it. There are a few clues we can pull from the pictures such as the model apparently having grille similar to the ATS Coupe, and a sloping rear hatch that is being hidden by a box.
    The XT5 is expected to use a new scalable platform called C1XX (Chi for short). This new platform is expected to underpin a number of crossovers from the next GMC Acadia (which is rumored to shrink), to the next-generation Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse. Power will come from a turbocharged-four and optional V6. Both engines will be paired with a new nine-speed transmission.
    The XT5 is expected to debut either in late 2015 or 2016 as a 2017 model.

    The Cadillac ATS-V Reveals Itself

    Feast your eyes on this. Left Lane News got their hands on new spy shots which show off the upcoming Cadillac ATS-V Coupe with no camouflage at all.
    The ATS-V looks to our eyes as being a CTS-V that has been left in the wash for a bit too long. The front has an aggressive front splitter that appears to be made out of carbon fiber, along with mesh grilles for the front clip. There is a hood bulge with an air vent to help cooling. Around back is a spoiler sitting on the trunk lid. The pictures also reveal the ATS-V having massive disc brakes, possibly carbon ceramic.
    One item still up in the air is what powers the ATS-V. All signs appear to be pointing to TT 3.6 with 425 horsepower.
    All we'll be revealed in due time when the ATS-V debuts next month at the LA Auto Show.

    Cadillac Has Some Big Plans For The Future

    Cadillac has been a hot topic of late, due to a number of key items such as the appointment of Johan de Nysschen, the nomenclature change, and the move to New York. Speaking with Reuters, Johan de Nysschen spoke about what the future holds for the luxury brand.
    A key part of de Nysschen's plan for Cadillac is to expand the lineup with the introduction of five to ten models by 2020. One of those models is a range-topping luxury sedan that will go on sale at the end of the decade and likely will be called CT8 or CT9. This model will compete with the likes of long-wheelbase models and has been signed off by him.
    de Nysschen also talked and hinted at some of the other models in pipeline. These models include,
    Plug-In Hybrid version of the CT6
    Successor to the ELR, but it might not be a two-door coupe
    Smaller crossover to sit underneath the SRX, along with a larger model
    Smaller sedan to sit underneath the ATS

    Industry sources tell Reuters that Cadillac has been quietly talking with them about the small and large crossover, along with the small sedan. They explain that small crossover is due out in 2017, followed by the large crossover between 2017 and 2018; and then the small sedan in 2018.

    Cadillac's CT6 Will Become A Technology Showcase, Plus More Name Changes

    Cadillac will be positioning the CT6 as a technology showcase for the brand. Automotive News reports that GM is banking on suite of new technologies to entice customers into checking out the new flagship.
    “Cadillac is the place where we will experiment with technology our customers want in the future,” said GM Vice President of global product development, Mark Reuss.
    Such technologies include lightweight body structure combining steel and aluminum to give the car both stiffness and agility; a suite of super cruise automated driving technologies; a new rear-view mirror that streams video from the rear-view camera; and a new twin-turbocharged 3.0L six-cylinder that is promised to be the most powerful in the class.
    In other Cadillac news, the brand's Chief Marketing Officer Uwe Ellinghaus told Forbes that along with CT nomenclature for sedans, crossovers will change over the XT nomenclature. Much like the CT, the XT nomenclature will have a number at the end designating the model.
    “It’s a logical thing to give some mental space like this in your naming scheme. So many other brands have done that sort of thing, across industries. It’s not rocket science. It doesn’t fit our immediate business needs, but this simple logic will help us build this brand and enhance recognition over the long term,” said Ellinghaus.
    Despite the name changes, one model will be excluded from this. The Escalade will keep its name as its the most memorable nameplate in the brand's lineup.

    Meet The Starship CT6... Wait, It's A Cadillac?!

    For the longest time, we have been calling Cadillac's upcoming flagship the LTS after a rumor tipped this to be name. But we now know that the new flagship, premiering next year, will have a different name. In a press release today, Cadillac announced that their upcoming flagship will wear the CT6 name.
    "The Cadillac CT6 continues our brand's elevation and global growth. CT6 will constitute an entirely new approach to the prestige sedan, emphasizing a dynamic driving experience and advanced technology," said Uwe Ellinghaus, Cadillac chief marketing officer.
    Now the CT6 name also introduces a big change for Cadillac. According to the release, 'lettering like “CT” would be used for car models, with the number indicating the relative size and position of the cars in the hierarchy of Cadillac models.'
    "As we expand the portfolio, we can assist consumers in placing the cars within a structure, as they compare cars both within our showroom and across the market generally," Ellinghaus said. "However, this will be an evolutionary process – we will only change a product's name when the product itself is redesigned or an all-new model is created, as in this instance."

    Upcoming Top-End Product Named Cadillac CT6
    DETROIT – Cadillac announced today that its new, high-technology car positioned at the top of its range will be called Cadillac CT6.
    "The Cadillac CT6 continues our brand's elevation and global growth," said Uwe Ellinghaus, Cadillac chief marketing officer. "CT6 will constitute an entirely new approach to the prestige sedan, emphasizing a dynamic driving experience and advanced technology."
    When it launches in late-2015, the CT6 will expand the Cadillac range upwards – meaning it will not replace any current product. Positioned above today's CTS and XTS product lines, the CT6 aims to join the elite group of top-class large luxury cars.
    Currently in development, the new RWD-oriented sedan uses advanced, lightweight materials and new body construction techniques to reduce fuel consumption while enhancing driving dynamics and safety.
    "This Cadillac will be the lightest and most agile car in the class of top-level large luxury sedans," said Travis Hester, executive chief engineer, Cadillac CT6. "Using the lessons learned from our dynamic ATS and CTS product lines, we have developed an entirely new vehicle architecture for the CT6. It will employ a mixed material philosophy that combines the best and most efficient components optimized for each area of this new top-of-the-range car."
    The model name CT6 is derived from Cadillac's use of CTS for its centerpiece carline, the current version of which is Motor Trend Car of the Year for 2014, Road & Track's Best Luxury Sedan and one of Car and Driver's "10Best." The name also indicates a coming shift to a simplified naming convention for future Cadillac models. Under this strategy, familiar lettering like "CT" would be used for car models, with the number indicating the relative size and position of the cars in the hierarchy of Cadillac models.
    "As we expand the portfolio, we can assist consumers in placing the cars within a structure, as they compare cars both within our showroom and across the market generally," Ellinghaus said. "However, this will be an evolutionary process – we will only change a product's name when the product itself is redesigned or an all-new model is created, as in this instance."
    The Cadillac CT6 will be assembled in Detroit, part of a previously announced $384 million investment in the Detroit-Hamtramck plant. Tools and equipment unique to the CT6 were installed recently at the plant. Production is slated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2015.

    Cadillac is undergoing a number of changes. From the appointment of a new head to new models heading out to dealers, and more that are to be revealed. Now, the luxury automaker is moving to a new home.
    Yesterday, General Motors announced that Cadillac will be moving to a new headquarters in New York City. The new HQ will be located in the SoHo area with a "multipurpose brand and event space in conjunction with modern loft offices." At this time, Cadillac is deciding who will move to the headquarters at this time. However, technical operations will remain in Michigan. The move is expected to finish up next year.

    Cadillac Expands to Become Separate Business Unit, Adds New York Headquarters
    NEW YORK – As part of the continued expansion of Cadillac, General Motors today announced a strategic realignment that will establish the flagship brand as a separate business unit. In addition, the new Cadillac organization will expand to New York with a new global headquarters opening in 2015.
    The realignment affirms Cadillac’s importance to GM’s strategy. Creating a new Cadillac business unit enables it to pursue growing opportunities in the luxury automotive market with more focus and clarity.
    “With the relentless upward repositioning of successive new-generation Cadillac products, the next logical step is to provide Cadillac more freedom to cultivate the brand in pursuit of further global growth,” said GM President Dan Ammann.
    “Cadillac’s mission is to reinstate the brand to a pre-eminent position among global luxury brands, a bold challenge requiring a distinct and focused new organization,” Ammann said. “More than a division or brand, Cadillac is becoming a center of excellence for our company.”
    Johan de Nysschen, who joined Cadillac as its new president in August, will be responsible for the brand’s overall operational performance.
    Cadillac’s leadership council is headed by de Nysschen, and consists of Jim Bunnell, vice president of sales and service; Uwe Ellinghaus, chief marketing officer; David Colasinski, chief financial officer; David Leone, executive chief engineer, and Andrew Smith, executive director of design. Further expansion of the Cadillac leadership team will be announced later.
    Expansion Includes New York Headquarters
    The plan includes expansion to New York City in the form of a multipurpose brand and event space in conjunction with modern loft offices located in the heart of a city renowned for establishing trends and setting standards for the global luxury market.
    While the majority of functions with oversight and responsibility for both global and U.S. operations will be located at the new global headquarters, there will be no change to technical product development teams located in Michigan, nor does the plan impact manufacturing or assembly operations. Cadillac management is reviewing options for which specific staffs will be based in New York and which will remain in current locations in the Detroit-area or elsewhere.
    Cadillac has operations in more than 40 countries. The brand’s ongoing growth has been driven by an expanded product portfolio, leading to 28 percent global growth in 2013 and an increase of about 10 percent so far this year. Cadillac sales in China have grown 64 percent year to date.
    “We are very proud of our Detroit roots and heritage, and the majority of the Cadillac workforce will remain in Michigan," de Nysschen said. "But there is no city in the world where the inhabitants are more immersed in a premium lifestyle than in New York. Establishing our new global headquarters in Soho places Cadillac at the epicenter of sophisticated living. It allows our team to share experiences with premium-brand consumers and develop attitudes in common with our audience."
    Company officials thanked New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for his active support of and involvement in establishing the creation of Cadillac NYC.
    "As the media and advertising capital of the world, New York is the ideal location for Cadillac to move its marketing operations to enhance their brand and spur future growth," Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said.

    Johan de Nysschen Is Standing Tall With Cadillac's Current Pricing Structure

    Cadillac's president isn't planning to cut prices to reverse the trend of slumping sales for the brand.
    "We cannot deny the fact that we are leaving behind our traditional customer base. It will take several years before a sufficiently large part of the audience who until now have been concentrating on the German brands will find us in their consideration set," said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen in a interview with Automotive News.
    "Either you have to bring your volume aspirations into alignment with reality and accept that you will sell fewer cars. Or you have to drop the price and continue to transact at the prices where you were historically. I think the logical conclusion is that it's better to build off a very solid base in terms of [product] credibility, charge a fair price for the car and realize you have to wait until the volume comes."
    Some Cadillac dealers and analysts believe the pricing strategy that the brand has taken to be in line with such competitors as Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz is hurting the brand. But de Nysschen is confident in Cadillac's lineup and believes that the brand's legacy buyers will give way to import buyers who are interested in the brand thanks to a better customer experience and a more fleshed-out portfolio.

    The Cadillac Flagship Is Coming

    At last, another long-standing rumor we can start to put to bed. This morning, Cadillac announced that they will build a "top-end, high-technology" model that will go into production in the forth-quarter of 2015. The model according to Cadillac will be position "above today’s CTS and XTS product lines, the new top-of-the-line Cadillac adds to rather than replaces any model in the portfolio. The model name will be announced soon. It will make its public debut in the first half of next year."
    “The objective for this upcoming model is to lift the Cadillac range by entering the elite class of top-level luxury cars. Currently in development, this new rear wheel drive-oriented sedan uses completely new, custom-designed materials on a unique vehicle architecture. In addition to new technology in the car itself, we are instituting innovative manufacturing techniques to assemble it with the precision deserving of a luxury make,” said Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen in a statement.
    Production will take place at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant.

    New Top End Cadillac to be Built in Detroit in 2015
    DETROIT – Cadillac announced today it will elevate its growing portfolio with a new, top-end, high-technology car. The as-yet unnamed Cadillac will go into production in the fourth quarter of 2015 at the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant.
    The addition of this new Cadillac is part of a previously announced $384 million investment in the facility on Detroit’s east side. Tools and equipment unique to the Cadillac model were installed recently.

    Four of seven Cadillac models – the ELR at Detroit-Hamtramck and the CTS sedan and ATS sedan and Coupe are built at Lansing Grand River – are assembled in Michigan.
    “This is another testament to the power of collective bargaining and what can be achieved when we all work together,” said UAW Vice President Cindy Estrada, who leads the union’s GM Department. “Our members work hard and take great pride in creating quality products that drive the industry forward and make these achievements possible.”
    Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly opened in 1985 and spans two cities - Detroit and Hamtramck. It is the home of GM electric vehicles, including the Cadillac ELR and is the company’s most complex plant in North America building five models on one production line. GM has invested more than $1 billion in the plant over the last five years.
    "This is wonderful news for Michigan. For 110 years, Cadillac has been building beautiful, cutting-edge vehicles right here in Michigan, and today’s announcement just reinforces how exciting the future is for Cadillac, GM, and our state,” said U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow. “I am thankful for (GM CEO) Mary Barra’s commitment to Michigan and American manufacturing.”

    How To Fix The Slumping Sales Of The CTS

    Despite rave reviews, the Cadillac CTS has been slipping in sales. Sales in July slipped 29 percent, while August saw another 35 percent drop. This is a the opposite of what is happening in the luxury marketplace as sales are currently up six percent. A possible cause to this is the base price of the CTS has climbed $6,000 from the previous model.
    “While it may have been a terrific car, it may not have been perceived as having earned its stripes for that kind of pricing against the Germans. Cadillac has just not earned its way to charge the kind of premium that the Germans can get,” said Michelle Krebs, senior analyst with Autotrader.com.
    Uwe Ellinghaus, Cadillac's chief marketing officer said in a recent interview that the brand may have been too ambitious” in raising prices on the CTS. To fix this, Ellinghaus considering adding more standard features or offering some features like heated seats as stand-alone options.
    "These are things that we can do relatively quickly," Ellinghaus said.
    Also being changed is Cadillac's ad campaign. Ellinghaus explained that company will move away from the current messaging of comparing Cadillac to Germans, and instead focus on on its American roots.
    “We definitely cannot build a brand on being as good as,” “We are not German -- and that’s a good thing. We are American. We need to build this brand on what differentiates Cadillac from our German competitors,” said Ellinghaus.

    2015 Looks To Be An Exciting Year For Cadillac

    Cadillac has some big things coming in 2015. Dave Leone, Cadillac’s chief engineer told reporters last week in California that 2015 will see the introduction of the long-rumored and speculated flagship. Possibly wearing the name of the LTS, this news seems to confirm a report from earlier this month which said the model would debut at next year's New York Auto Show.
    Along with the flagship, Leone also said that 2015 will also see a redesigned SRX and the ATS-V.
    “This is going to be a fantastic year for Cadillac,” Leone said.

    Mark Reuss Talks About The ELR

    Many people see the Cadillac ELR as General Motors' direct competitor to the Tesla Model S, but GM's head of global product development, Mark Reuss says it isn't.
    “People like to say the ELR is, but it’s really not. It’s a different car, it’s a different price point. It’s way-different technology,” Reuss said.
    Ruess goes onto say that he isn't sure if the company has a direct competitor to Tesla.
    So why do many people consider the ELR a competitor to the Model S? Probably from a quote from former GM CEO Dan Akerson back in September.

    The Cadillac Escalade Gets Some Platinum

    Even though the Cadillac Escalade is quite fresh, Cadillac has a number of changes in store for it in the coming year to keep it the thick of the luxury SUV battleground.
    The big change is the introduction of the Platinum trim for the Escalade. The Platinum trim adds a bit more shine on the exterior with additional chrome trim, twenty-two inch wheels, Cadillac's new crest, and Platinum badges. Inside, the Escalade Platinum gets Nappa semi-aniline leather in a choice of either beige or gray; suede microfiber headliner, heated and cooled seats for the front, eighteen-way power seats, and three screens for rear seat passengers (two seven-inch screens in the headrests, and a nine-inch screen in the center).
    Other changes for the 2015 model include an eight-speed automatic taking the place of the six-speed, a new two-speed transfer case for four-wheel drive models, Surround View camera system, 4G LTE connectivity, and a hands-free power liftgate.
    Pricing for the 2015 Escalade will start at $73,965 (includes $995 destination charge), while the new Escalade Platinum model kicks off at $90,270.

    New Platinum Collection, Added Features Elevate Escalade Craftsmanship and Technology
    Entire SUV line gets 8-Speed transmission, Surround View camera and 4G LTE connectivity

    DETROIT – Cadillac today announced numerous enhancements to the just-launched 2015 Escalade, including the new range-topping Platinum Collection model launching in the fourth quarter this year.
    Escalade Platinum features elegant, hand-crafted luxury additions to both the exterior and interior while the entire Escalade range gets new technical features, highlighted by the addition of 4G LTE connectivity, a new 8-speed automatic transmission and a Surround View camera system to help increase visibility.
    "Since the launch just a few months ago, the next-generation Escalade has proved exceptionally desirable among luxury SUV buyers," said Uwe Ellinghaus, chief marketing officer, Cadillac. "Now, within the same year we are able to elevate the Escalade line with the Platinum Collection, as well as deliver enhancements through the entire Escalade range."
    The 2015 Escalade Platinum extends and upgrades the use of premium materials within the Escalade's cut and sewn interior. First- and second-row seats are wrapped in Nappa semi-aniline leather, while the dashboard, upper door panels and center console are clad in hand-stitched and hand-wrapped leather. Customers can choose between two distinct interior environments, each paired with sueded microfiber headliner trim and unique exotic wood accents.
    Escalade Platinum Collection is also designed to provide passengers with unsurpassed comfort and convenience. Heated and cooled 18-way power front seats are standard, and include a massaging function on the driver's seat. A pair of seven-inch LCD screens, embedded in the front head rests, supplement the overhead 9-inch screen, while a cooled center console compartment can keep chilled beverages handy. Platinum models also include premium floor mats and Platinum-branded door sill plates.
    Escalade Platinum models ride on 22-inch wheels and the model is distinguished by chrome accents, Platinum exterior badging, and a unique grille mesh design. All Escalade models wear the new, streamlined Cadillac Crest.
    In addition, all Escalade models – from the standard Collection through to the Platinum – feature a host of technology upgrades. Vehicle performance is aided by the new eight-speed automatic transmission that is standard on all models, as well as a two-speed transfer case standard on four-wheel drive models. An electronic hands-free liftgate already standard on Escalade will also feature hands-free closing capability.
    Like the new ATS sport sedan, Escalade includes OnStar with 4G LTE connectivity with a WiFi hotspot capable of connecting up to seven devices and inductive wireless device charging. Surround View, which provides a bird's eye view of the area immediately surrounding the vehicle.
    The enhancements add just $1275 to Escalade's starting price in the U.S., for a total of $73,965, including destination.
    The top-of-the-range 2015 Escalade Platinum is priced from $90,270, including $995 in destination.
