Kicking this off as I saw a brand new Cadillac Escalade sport edition all Matte Black. I suspect a custom paint job as I do not see Matte paint on the option list of the web site. New purchase from my local Cadillac dealership I go too. Plenty of blah appliance auto's today, but one consistent observation, so much body damage on 1 and 2 year old auto's from corners of the bumpers crushed in to side swipes. Very weird especially as I saw a number of subcompacts from Honda Fit to Mini with this kind of damage today as I ran to Costco.

So what is everyone else doing this month to enjoy your car hobby? For me-Buckeye Miata Club and the local Harley Owners Group (HOG)(who would ever think Harley's and Miatas together) are getting together tomorrow for the groundbreaking at the Flying Horse Farms, a Hole in the Wall Gang Camp like Victory Junction we've both worked to raise funds for. Last weekend we joined up for a Harley-Miata ride up there for a picnic. Every day I've drivin to work with the top down, 45 minutes + one way. Got caught in rain twice...took a clouburst before I put the top up. Went to a couple of Junkyards that have old cars, I have pics if I can figure out how to post them. Foun…

It's a Looong read! So, I lost the friendship of someone that I honestly thought was my best friend over the course of the last month and a half. My former friend's name is Dustin to start off, and we were friends for six years; all through high school and up until this year. I had always questioned his orientation due to things he did, tried to do to me, and what not. Of course, this person was my one "exception to the rule" but I never did anything for my own obvious reasons. Anyway, after an interesting ride back one evening from a local dirt racing track, I had gotten the answer I had wanted. Yes, he was/is a bit of a closet case. One evening around a month …

Yesterday and Saturday I saw a solid looking black '75 Chevy Laguna coupe, and a auto shop that had maybe 1/2 dozen or more partially covered '58-59 Edsels and a premiered '70 Cougar shell out front in Navarre, Ohio (small town near Massillon).

I guess I'll start this month off. 1977 Caprice Classic sedan in light green, perfect condition, driven in traffic yesterday. I remember how excited I was in the autumn of 1976, (I was 12 years old and a complete car FREAK) to see the brand new, smaller and very good looking GM B, C and D-bodies hit the streets. First one I saw on the road back then... was a yellow Electra 225 with tan vinyl top. I think I freaked my grandparents out with my hoops and hollers that day.

General Motors and Toyota were once neck-and-neck when it came to developing high-mileage gasoline-electric hybrid cars. About a decade ago, you see, both firms had cracked the code on how to engineer a hybrid, and GM even had a running prototype. But the new technology was so costly that the automakers would have had to initially sell hybrids at a loss to build a market for them. The differing paths the two companies took symbolize why Toyota has become wildly profitable in the United States while GM has been losing its shirt in its home market. And why Toyota, riding GM's bumper, is likely to pass it this year to become the world's biggest car company. In addition to t…

Bought the '11 Jeep Liberty i think it'll be 2 years in Feb. It just turned 75K, has had zero issues. Its not fancy but everyone here enjoys driving it. Right now my older son is using it, he lives about 50 mins north of me & comes down to work w/ me during most weeks. My younger son is about 2 hrs north of me, in school in NYState. He lives on campus, but will be interning nxt semester & will need wheels. We have not shopped yet & need to get on the ball. Have not set a budget, thinking recent CPO, small, efficient, AWD would likely be good where he is (the Hudson Valley is very hilly country). I prefer to buy from a U.S. brand only. I welcome sugge…

You might have trouble beleiving this... it's very unexpected & sudden. you ready? no seriously, this is earth shattering... I might be buying a FWD car for myself. No I'm not joking, I'm being 100% serious. Nothing's been finalized but it's a possibility. So here's the scoop. I've been on waiting impatiently for four days now for the Infiniti deal to go through. Long story short financing a 1997 anything wiht 103K miles is tough with all the complications in our credit in terms of buying a house etc. So in order to lower our interest rate to at least single digits if not like 7% we talked to Marcia's grandmother today abotu her co-signing. With $ 3 + a gallon gas, who isn't concerned about gas mileage. My current car, at 14 years and 225,000 miles, still gets what was posted on the window sticker...about 18 in town and 28 on a road trip. It still gets that 28....amazing. Cautiously, I'm looking at new cars. I've been out of town the last 3 weekends, so I've had the opportunity to rent. I had a GP as a rental in Florida. On a road trip across the lower part of the state, the 3800 returned 27.7 mpg (with the AC on the whole time and some non-freeway driving). This past weekend, I was in L.A. I wanted a Monte 3.5 to see the mpg, but they gave me an Impala 3.5. UNBELIEVABLE. From LA to Santa Barbara a…

... I just feel like driving nothing but some gigantic coupe from about 1970 with the biggest big block I can find just to spit in the face of current convention. This feeling tends to attack upon encountering a Smart on the street. The thought of some growling, monster engined, coupe that is longer than a new Silverado bearing down on one of these little jokemobiles while spewing raw hydrocarbons through dual exhaust leaving twin black deposits on the front bumper of the Camry hybrid behind me just makes me smile.

dont know if it will work though Gas Prices TOOOOO HIGH IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES. AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES. THEREFORE SEPTEMBER 1ST HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR @$$ " DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY. We've done religion, height/weight, age, ethnicity...why not this? You can only pick one. However, you can define what you think these concepts mean. I once heard: "When you're younger, if you're not liberal, you don't have a heart. When you're older, if you're not conservative, you don't have a head." Also, this has NOTHING to do with party affiliation. Liberal/conservative does NOT necessarily align itself with political leanings. I picked conservative....you know, a Regal with crank windows and 247,000 miles.

With my sick and vacation time I have, I will be paid until June 15th, 2009 by GM. 20 years with GM, so many memories, so many thoughts, I struggled with this decision for many months, with long sleepless nights, it was not an easy one for me ... Two Jeep Cherokees, one a '98 and the other a '94. Both supposedly run. Both supposedly have good titles. Both have an asking price of $850. I'm curious about the '98, that's what I'm hoping may be a diamond in the rough. I don't know what I would do with an extra Jeep sitting around, but whatever. I think I can deal with it. We'll see. Here is something else you can gnash your teeth on. 2008 promises to be even more fun, the economy will play a big part, people will not be buying cars in 2008 like they did before. Got your popcorn ready? It's going to be a great show. Oh and I want to thank those here that gave me the inspiration to help bring GM Europe's vision of GM to life. You know who you are. My parents bought a brand new 1983 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ new; I was 8 y-o at the time. I essentially grew up with this car, and learned how to drive on it. May of 1993 my mom traded it in and it was gone forever (I did see it on two separate occasions in 1994). Ever since then, I've had a special place in my heart for these unloved GPs, and vowed one day to own one (even though it was never really mine, I treated it like it was my own before I bought my first car, a '78 Camaro LT, in 1992). Over the years I'd spot one for sale or just sitting alone, but all have needed work. Last Sunday I was out cruising around looking at dealer inventories and I spotted this: …

This is a Land Rover Freelander: Want to take a guess on where the main brake lights are? That's right. The brake lights are the two little red portions of the rectangles on the bottom of the rear bumper. The two circular lights were you would expect the brake lights to be are (as far as I know) just there for show. I was behind one of these in traffic the other night and following it was just as bad as if it had no brake lights at all (slight exaggeration but it was still disconcerting having to look at the bumper of a car to see if it was braking). The fact that the third brake light was out and the brake lights barely lit up any brighter when braking didn't h…

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/17/world/asia/17japan.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1&hp OSAKA, Japan — Like many members of Japan’s middle class, Masato Y. enjoyed a level of affluence two decades ago that was the envy of the world. Masato, a small-business owner, bought a $500,000 condominium, vacationed in Hawaii and drove a late-model Mercedes. But his living standards slowly crumbled along with Japan’s overall economy. First, he was forced to reduce trips abroad and then eliminate them. Then he traded the Mercedes for a cheaper domestic model. Last year, he sold his condo — for a third of what he paid for it, and for less than what he still owed on the mortgage he to…

WTF? "The cost of the vehicle might go up, but it will be benefical at the gas pump." BullSh*t! "We would have to make the cars smaller, with less horsepower. The more expensive cars would be that much harder to sell." Exactly I understand highly populated states should work on this, but we aint one of them. I've been thinking... Rather than getting a loan and buying something nice right away, should I just look into another beater? Course, one that isn't as much of a money pit as nor as inefficient as the Cutlass. I currently have about $1200 saved up that could go towards something... decent. Nothing stellar, but something affordable to drive around in while I attempt to sell the Cutlass. As mentioned, the Cutlass is too much of a money pit, especially in gas. This would allow me to save money at a much greater rate. Some of you still think I should put it into my Millenia, but at the moment its on the back burner until something changes on the diagnostic level. I would…

I'm beginning to really dislike the Cutlass. It's turning into more of a continuing problem than a solution. I think the transmission might be starting to go. It's hesitating more and more and is becoming quite clunky. The other night, it gave me a scare as it did not want to shift at all. I'm thinking it just got too hot at the time, but the fluid on the dipstick had black residue on it while the fluid itself matched the paint, a reddish brown. It didn't seem to be overly low on fluid, though. Low, but not low enough to cause those sort of problems. As long as it doesn't return to the state it was in that night, it'll be driveable, but I have a feeling this is a sign o…

Keep in mind that my tastes in automotive styling are a bit off-center...I mean, I *liked* the looks of the AMC Pacer for cryin' out loud...but I saw two different vehicles yesterday that struck me as heinously ugly. The first was a current model Nissan Quest. OMG, what a disjointed mishmash of disjointed stylistic crap! The other was a BMW X6. I generally like fastbacks (even on the Honda Crosstour), but the X6 version just looks like excrement to me. Sorry for the crabby old guy bitching session.

You walk out to the parking lot of the Olive Garden together, only to find out she (he?) drives a........... (insert car here). Did it just burst your bubble? For example, if i were single and needed to blind date, if i had the best of dates and went back out to find that this person drove a Camry or CRv or Subaru, I think that would be a major sign to hightail out of the relationship. Conversely, if this woman is driving a new G8 GXP, then I think it may be heaven on earth. What car in your potential blind date mate makes …

My daughter will start driving this year and going off to some university in two years. Mrs. PCS is starting to have empty nest issues and keeps whispering in my ear it's not to late to have one more. She is hard to resist once she has her mind set on something. I'm 38 so I would be 56 by the time the next one would be going off to college. So I guess my question is are there any older dads out there and if there are, looking back would you have had another child again, knowing what you know now? Today it was announced by the owner of our dealership... a mandatory 10% pay cut for all employees, in a belt-tightening move. Morale has taken a nosedive. I figure I will lose income very near the amount of my truck payment per month. Our sales are down 30% from last year. It ain't looking good. I am considering dropping my gym membership (only $15/mo) and my land line telephone... along with selling my truck, for real, among other things, just to keep going. If this pay reduction doesn't save enough money for the company, what happens next scares me. I hope Wall Street speculators are happy, driving fuel prices through the roof this summer. The ripple effect of …

Know how you guys always "gave it to me" about my driving? Well... I suppose you all were right. I guess the inevitable happened... I... uh... wrecked. I'm fine, though. Can't say that my Millenia is... It happened the other night. Got a pic earlier today. Would've gotten more, but my batteries when dead before I could. Eh... Anyways... from what I can remember... I was on my way to Brookville, for no reason really. The roads were a bit wet and I was going about 55. Um... as I came up to this one turn... I just... IDK... must've lost it. Next thing I remember, I was in an Ambulance. I honestly don't remember what happened. I'm not even sure what I ran in to. Anyways, I wa…

Okay, so I thought I was going insane before... but now I've done it: I want a 3/4 foreign car. Used, of course. I hate the Bronco. It gets the worst gas mileage I could ever have a nightmare and dream of, it runs like $h!, doesn't want to crank over in the cold (and I'm not buying a new battery), and has other issues too. So, come spring, I'm going to fix it up as much and as quick as I can and put it on the block for sale. Hopefully I'll make a little cash off of it and save a little for my NEXT winter car... I'm thinking about a DSM. That's right, I said it. A '95-99 Eclipse GS-T or GSX with a 5 speed. Something that will get better gas mileage (es…

I've been spending much of my time this month in this shop wrenching on these cars. Today I was working on the red and white car and cleaning it up as I go. All of the wheelwell areas and engine compartment was as nasty as the driver's side of the compartment still is. Healeys are leaky little buggers. By Wednesday, this car has to be back on its wheels.

Sometimes my import oriented friends really get my nerves at times. At one point, one claimed that the Civic Si (a 2006 one BTW) has LSD and it feels like an RWD car. And then the owner of the Civic defends on the tuning of his engine (i.e. 195hp at like near the end of curve, which I find obnoxious) because "it's tuned for racing". He says that the tuning on my G6 (and all Americans as a matter of fact, he's a Honda nut), since the torque and power peaks are at such low RPMs, "will run out of power" when racing. I told him all I know is I don't have to rev all the way up there for a turn or overtaking a bus. And as I mentioned before, my Mazda3 friend still insists…

So since the others have gone fairly well so far, I figured it was time to roll out the Dream Garage Threads. These were always very popular over at MT, and I hope they get a lot of posts and stir up discussion here, too. I'm going to start with a series that will have many installments, but there will be a variety of different themes in the future. The basic rules are largely the same so, this is an easy one to participate in. Here they are- 1)You have 5 choices maximum. And preferably minimum. 2)They must be production vehicles. 3)Cars from any era and market are allowed. 4)These are your ONLY vehicles. For the displacement-specific threads like…

I don't see many of these anymore. Most are in the car graveyard in the sky somewhere. Or, hopefully, recycled. This is an Olds Silhouette minivan from GM's first whack at minivans ... the ones with the long snout. In reviews I've read of these, it said driving one seemed like you were driving them from the back seat! I'm guessing early '90s. It's in incredible condition - the body, the hardware, an original paint color, and it's badged to have a 3800, probably a Series I. No wonder it has been around for so long. Of the GM minivans, I'd give the nod to the Olds Silhouette, followed by the Pontiac Trans Sport, and then the Chevy Venture…

Wow, where to begin. First off an old friend from HS stopped by today and gave me some shocking (though not that shocking) news. He's BI and had always wanted to be with me. I informed him that I don't do guys and he then tried to kiss me on the lips. I pushed him back and informed him again that I don't do guys. Well he started crying and telling me he loves me, I felt bad becuase I don't like seeing my friend cry, but I was all like, man don't feel bad it's just the way things are. He told me to f@#k off and then sped off in his Silverado.

Tell us about your area, population, attractions, industry, car culture etc and do you like living there, do you want to move, where? Maybe even a bit of history of your neck of the woods. Did you grow up there? I'd enjoy photos of the villages and hamlets in which you live.

I usually go to my mom's on Thursdays for dinner. This week, the conversation turned to this: mom: "Did you see the movie Brokeback Mountain?" "Yes" "Did it have a lot of pretty scenery in it? "Yes it did." "I heard it was a good story. What did you do when they had their little love scene?" "Sat there with the rest of the audience." "Did you see a lot of gay birds there? You're not"/ (I cut her off mid-sentence) "Most of the people there were ladies your age."/ on to a different subject chosen by her. Sorry to blog up the lounge with yet another angsty thread on this kind of thing, it's just hard to take that leap into the unknown. I wish I had some semblan…

There is an 86 or 87 T-Type Regal sitting outside of my work. It has been there for 3 weeks or so. I don't know what is going on with it but I keep on telling the service manager not to junk it. It is quite nice but needs a little TLC. It is a T-Type because it is engraved into the dash. It also has the hood bulge and the Grand National rims. How much are these worth now when restored and would they be worth restoring? HERE ARE THE PICTURES FINALLY. Sorry about the focus. I was rushing so I wouldn't be late to work.

There is always a PROBLEM here or there. "Office Space" LIVES! In my project area, there is ONLY one person I don't like. His problem is his meddlesome nature. First, he has to get involved in people's financial affairs (he can't manage his own). Then, he always does a "shaking of the finger" when a person gets time off during a crunch (when he's done the same thing). He always seems to be TOO interested in what others are doing, right down to making smart-ass comments about who is or isn't participating in what event at the forthcoming picnic. Except for a few people I like, I couldn't even REMOTELY tell you what others are into. Not only that, he's got the sam…

When I talk to someone about buying American cars, the subject always falls back to "I bet the TV that you are watching in not made in America, so what's wrong with owning a Camry?" There is only one response to this "apples/oranges" retort; "If there was an American made TV, I would buy it. But our government and big business has sold out almost EVERY manufacturer to other countries, that I CANNOT BUY an American made and owned TV, even if I wanted to." As far as vehicles go (probably the second largest purchase most of us dwindling middle-class Americans will make) I can make a conscious effort to purchase a car from an American-owned company, one of the last items w…

Okay.... so as of today, Thursday, May 10th 2007 there is less than five weeks left before I hit the road with several friends to drive about 3700 miles in less than a week. I promissed DodgeFan I'd hammer out the timeline on here since he's going along. So here goes. I'm hoping to get about 13mpg on this trip since it will be 95% highway miles and I'm either taking the 1959 Buick which has a 6.0 liter V8, or perhaps (blasphemy!) I might take the 1977 Cadillac instead. The Cadillac has a very economical rear end in it... 2.08:1, but it breathes through a big 4bbl and displaces 425 cubic inches/7.0 liters. So for the sake of argument, since Big Red got abou…

Since we seem to be at each others throats a little bit lately...let's take it "out into the parking lot" and fight over "cars' instead of stupid stuff. Here is what we can argue about-Suppose you have been picked by the Smithsonian to pick ONE GM car as a historical visual "high Water Mark" of North American car production. Let's suppose the Smithsonian will buy an example of this car and put it on permanant prominent public display. What would you pick? Also-Has to be built in North America, so PCS can't flood us with a fleet of Holdens. My pick-58-62 Chevrolet Corvette. To me even better than a 55 Nomad, 65 GTO, or other notable GM cars. So, Car and driver tested both of these this week. Fusion Sport http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2017-ford-fusion-sport-with-summer-tires-tested-review MKZ 3.0T AWD http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2017-lincoln-mkz-30t-awd-test-review The Lincoln was basically 18k more expensive. The MKZ was roughly 200 pounds heavier, but even with that it seems the acceleration differences should be more 3 or 4 tenths of the Fusion with it's 75 less HP. The Lincoln did pull slightly higher G on the skidpad (.93 vs .89), but took an extra foot to stop from 70. Honestly, i like the MKZ some better and would pay a few grand premium ove…

I'm all over the map. New/old, truck/SUV/Car, classic wagon/El Camino, a Zeta variant, even tempted by Kappa. Even I can't guess what it will be. So make your suggestions/predictions now and we'll see who nails it. Even I don't know what the answer will be.

Back in the days before people all pussied out and bought vans and box vans and trailers to transport their work equipment, REAL men and women drove panel trucks or sedan deliveries to get the job done. Please share! I would probably step over my own mother to have a 1948-1953 Chevrolet or GMC one-ton panel like this one, only mine would ideally be a work-worn original. Not really a fan of the 1954 models because of the one year only ugly grille (at least on the Chevrolet) and the one year only one-piece windshield (I like the split windshield- makes the truck look that much older). A 1955-1959 model would be awesome too, and OF COURSE a pre-1948 model would be accep…
