Buick
Founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, Buick is one of America’s oldest automobile brands and the oldest active division of General Motors (GM). Known for pioneering innovations like the overhead valve engine, Buick became a symbol of affordable luxury throughout the 20th century. It played a key role in GM’s growth and today positions itself between Chevrolet and Cadillac, offering premium vehicles in both the U.S. and China—its largest market.

For some reason, the Buick Envision is not liked as much as people might think. Where I live, there are a LOT of Cadillac SRX models on the lots right now, but only about a dozen (new) Envisions. I have posted a poll to see which CUV you prefer to buy for your next vehicle. Sure, the SRX has been replaced with the XT5 but there are a lot of lightly used SRX model from 2011-15 at very attractive prices. The Envisions top out at $50K while even a 2015 SRX can go for about 35K or less. Please vote and explain your vote in the comments below.

A coworker's 50k Impala is in the shop (oil and water leaks) so the dealership (my old dealer group actually) gave a new Regal loaner. (disclaimer, they have recently gotten like 10 new 13's that aren't going anywhere any time soon). She is impressed with the car, the leather is 'silky smooth'. It's 'smaller than the Impala though'. Otherwise it's apparently just a nice car. We know the Regals lack some real bling and wow. I like Regals a lot. I think a big problem is it is not much bigger than a Verano, but it sells at a near LaCrosse price. Malibu Turbo is arguably the same car with the possibility for a better price. Buick made some great improvements for 20…

With news of Buick getting a RWD sedan, I have been wondering if Buick even needs another sedan. Currently, as we all know, Buick only has two sedans, the LaCrosse and Lucerne. The next LaCrosse will be moving to Epsilon II and the future of the Lucerne is uncertain because the future of the G-Body platform is also uncertain. The next LaCrosse will likely be smaller than the current model, as currently Epsilon vehicles are almost ten inches shorter than the LaCrosse, and W-Body suffers from long overhangs. We also have heard that Epsilon II will be slightly larger than Epsilon; so, let's assume the next LaCrosse will be somewhere around 190-193 inches. Now, both the L…

CNW Marketing Research has released figures showing the average ages of auto buyers in 2007, with evidence that the down US economy has moved car buyers ages up. For me, it was interesting to learn the latest about Buick buyers [ I added the bold ]: "And while Buick is typically the butt of jokes about buyers who are somewhere between retired and deceased, the average age of a Buick shopper last year was 55.2 years old, considerably younger than the average 63.6-year-old Mercedes-Benz shopper." Buick Riviera Concept Revealed Images have leaked online of the new Buick Riviera concept, which is to be revealed at the Shanghai auto show this week. Designed at the GM Pan Asia Technical Center, the car is yet another stylish Buick designed by GM's China design team. The Riviera is supposed to showcase Buick's forthcoming global design language for Buick, and the coupe will tour the world after the Shanghai show closes. Unfortunately, there aren't any major American autoshows left, leaving GM without a place to properly showcase such a concept in the US until late this year. The Buick Regal is currently the oldest passenger sedan in Buick's lineup at the moment. But we do know that a next-generation model based on the next Opel/Vaxuhall Insignia. The Truth About Cars has learned some intriguing information about the next Regal. According to a source, Buick is planning to reveal the next Regal sometime in the second quarter, possibly at the New York Auto Show. Designers at Buick have added their own touches to the Regal's exterior to have it stand apart from the Insignia. The interior is said to be more spacious, especially in the back. The source goes on to say that the Regal will gain a V6, though it is unknown what V6 it would be…

One of my biggest gripes with Buick is it appears the competition (and often cheaper cars that don't compete) have a lot more content, and better packaging. I have to jump up 3 trim levels or even go to the top trim to get certain features that are standard on a Corolla. Sure, the LaCrosse is a much nicer, larger car, but I can't help but feel at this price and time, some things should just be standard like Blind-zone monitoring. Then there's the gripe that in order to add one feature you often have to add several other expensive packages. Anyone else get frustrated? I know I have another year before I need to get my next car, but I want to start looking …

Last month, General Motors announced an ambitious plan to launch 20 electric and hydrogen vehicles by 2023 with all of their brands playing a role. But Buick could be playing a prominent role in this plan. Duncan Aldred, vice president of sales and marketing at Buick-GMC tells Wards Auto that Buick will play a "huge part” in the coming years when it comes to EVs. “We will have multiple entries in a fairly short period of time. We’re GM’s biggest brand in the world’s biggest market. You’ll see a number of different technologies to go toward (our) zero-emissions objective,” said Aldred. That biggest market Aldred is referring to is China. In 2019, the country…

Currently, Buick only offers their upscale Avenir trim on only the Enclave crossover. But that will be changing in the coming weeks as the brand has announced the 2018 LaCrosse Avenir. The LaCrosse Avenir stands out from its brethren with new mesh grille inserts, chrome "wings", 19-inch wheels (20-inch wheels are optional), and Avenir badging. Inside, Buick went all out by using chestnut-brown leather upholstery, embroidered headrests, and special sill plates. Like the Enclave Avenir, the LaCrosse Avenir comes fully loaded with a Bose audio system, panoramic moonroof, and the 3.6L V6 with 310 horsepower. Optional equipment includes all-wheel drive, a suite of a…

There is a guy on a FB page claiming he bought a new '14 Regal w/ the 3800V6...I thought the current Regals were 4cyl only, and that the 3800 went out of production in '08. He claims it was special order and that it was a China option (he's in Michigan and claims he was able to get it built because his family owns a bunch of Buick dealerships..) Sounds like total BS, but is it plausible?

To help GM meet new U.S. fuel-economy standards, Buick, Pontiac, and GMC may each add a new smaller vehicle. According to Jan. 15, 2008 news reports, "Potential additions include a sedan shorter than the Buick LaCrosse, a crossover sport-utility vehicle more compact than the GMC Acadia and a Pontiac small car," said Jim Bunnell, general manager for the division that includes the three brands. The U.S. regulations "have thrown everything on its head," Bunnell said. "We most likely will need smaller market entries to get in line." For Buick, could this be the NG Chinese Excelle, due later this year? Have there been rumors that it will be re-named "Skylark"?

Blake Noble Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 9th, 2012 For a span of almost four decades, Buick’s classic Riviera models brought critical acclaim to one of GM’s oldest marques. Arguably GM’s first real success at building a “personal luxury car,” the Riviera was a “best-of” showcase for Buick offering class-competitive styling, luxury and technology. While the Riviera name has been previously used on a concept car introduced for the 2007 Shanghai Auto Show, it hasn’t been applied to a production model since the last Riviera was built in 1999. Now, according to GM enthusiast website GM Inside News, there is the potential for a Riviera revival. Last week, on Ma…

2006 Buick Lucerne CXL V6 Test Drive Over the weekend I test drove a 2006 Buick Lucerne CXL V6, the vehicle I am thinking about buying. The test drive car was a well equipped (only lacking the Heated and Cooled Seats) Ming Blue Lucerne with the tuxedo interior. The interior in my opinion was well done, yes there is plastic but the plastic has a nice matte look and feel to it, giving the impression of a more expensive car. The seats were comfortable and it was easy to find the right driving position. The simulated wood look extremely well and it looked as if it was hand polished just for the vehicle. The controls and all of the buttons felt as if they belonged on a …

After checking their website, I trekked into my local Buick/GMC dealer to check out the new 2013 Encore. It made me all googly-eyed... it's that cool, imo. In Brilliant Blue with Ebony cloth, it was a FWD Convenience model with the 5-spoke wheels. Very stylish. A bit nose-heavy in design, and tiny as heck, with big looking wheels (18" standard), it certainly has an attitude in its stance, with a beautiful interior. And it is not as "old" as it seemed in photos. How can it be described? Jaunty AND authoritative, even with its diminutive stature... it is a one-of-a-kind vehicle. Saleskid says it will be a 3-month wait for a factory order because it is built in Korea…

LaCrosse tweaked after rare one-star rating Harry Stoffer | Link to Original Article @ Automotive News | February 13, 2007 - 3:01 pm WASHINGTON - General Motors has altered the trim on the inside of the driver's door of the 2007 Buick LaCrosse because the car earned the lowest possible score in a government side-impact crash test. "We were surprised and disappointed" with the one-star rating, GM spokesman Alan Adler said. GM made the midmodel-year change in the door trim of cars on the assembly line last month, Adler said. The company will ask that the car be retested, he said. But for the moment, the one-star rating remains in the information made available to c…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 14, 2013 Earlier this year, General Motors CEO Dan Akerson said that if the Opel Adam and Cascada convertible were sold in the U.S., that it "would help Buick in this market and in China in terms of demographics." Since then, rumors and speculation have been flying on whether either one of these models would appear in the U.S. This week, we reported that Opel Adam is under consideration for the U.S. But it will likely not come until the next-generation model is launched if it is given the green light. Now, we have an update on the Opel Cascada. Insiders told Edmunds this week that the Opel Cascada becoming a …

The Buick lineup is currently has two crossover, the small Encore and the large Enclave. There's a large gap for midsize crossover to fill that gap and Buick appears to being doing just that. Well for China at least. Buick has revealed a teaser for the upcoming Envision Crossover lwhich happens to be cloaked and parked in between the Encore and Enclave. The brand says the model was inspired by the Envision concept and will feature "dynamic and assertive styling." The Envision Crossover will debut sometime later this year in China. We're excited by the new Opel and Vauxhall Insignia, especially considering we'll be getting our hands on it as the Buick Regal. But we don't know what form the Regal will come in. Opel has shown off a five-door hatchback and wagon, and there is talk about a sedan for China. According to a report from Automotive News, Buick will be selling the Regal as a hatchback and wagon. This information comes from two auto forecast firms: LMC Automotive and AutoForecast Solutions. Dropping the Regal sedan may seem odd, but there is some method to this madness. Sales of midsize sedans has been falling for the past two years and the segment has seen a 20 percent drop in the first…

I can't stand reading about Buick sales being down when writers don't analyze the reasons. Buick has fewer models. 10 years ago Buick had several models. For 2006 they offered only 5: Lucerne, LaCrosse, Rendezvous, Rainier and Terrazza, all with various trims. In 1996 they offered 11 models, with various trims. This is why sales are down. I know Buick is now part of the BPG channel, but they could use a few more models. 1. a convertible/coupe, bigger than the Pontiac g-6, more upscale, a real head turner. 2. a smaller SUV to go with the bigger Enclave. 3. a LaCrosse wagon. 1996 Buicks Park Avenue LeSabre Century Century Wagon Re…

GMC's Denali subbrand has been a huge success for General Motors. According to GM CEO Mary Barra, Denali-badged models now account for almost 30 percent of GMC retail sales, bringing in higher margins and average transaction prices. It just seems to have something maybe in the same way Denali has something," said Duncan Aldred, GM's vice president for Buick and GMC to Automotive News. Details on new Buick LaCrosse emerge New DI 3.0L V6 added Posted Oct 30th 2008 10:58AM Link to AutoBlog Judging from spy pics we've seen of the upcoming 2010 Buick LaCrosse, General Motors may have a winner on its hands, even if it is getting delayed. If specs from GM Inside News are accurate, Buick's new midsize sedan will have significant new powertrains, too. The big news comes from an all-new 3.0L, direct-inject V6 engine based on the larger 3.6L VVT powerplant that the General uses now. The small-displacement V6 packs some serious punch at 250 hp, and will be mated to the automaker's new 6T70 six-speed transmission for improved efficiency. The new 3.0L engine i…

I'm thinking about getting a Buick Lucerne CXL V6 model for my next car. I've read some reviews (not too detailed though) and it seems it is a good buy. I'm very interested in it's features, comfort and of course the quietness. The other car I was looking at was the Impala LTZ, but this does not offer the features that I like. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 15, 2012 Despite having one of the freshest lineups in the industry, Buick has seen its sales slip. Since last fall, the brand hasn't posted a year-over-year increase. The news is even worse when in February, Buick posted a 17% drop in sales to 24,231 vehicles. Buick was hoping to keep the curtain closed on 2017 Encore before its debut at the New York Auto Show. But a Chinese website has ruined that. auto.tom.com got their hands on some leaked photos of the Chinese-market Buick Encore which matches up perfectly with the updated Opel/Vauxhall Mokka that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show with a revised front end. This is likely what we'll be seeing in a couple weeks time at New York. It is expected that the Encore will have the turbocharged SIDI 1.4 four-cylinder (found in the Touring model with 153 horsepower), along with a revised dashboard and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. China is by far Buick's most important market. More than three quarters of all Buicks sold are sold in China. To that end, it should be no surprise that China gets updated models before the U.S. and also get variants that never will see our shores. Even models that are dead in the US, like the Lacrosse and Verano, continue on selling well in China. The Buick Enclave is one example. In the U.S. it is a full-size model, but in China it is downsized to a mid-size model approximately the size of the current GMC Acadia. Buick just debuted the new Enclave in China and while it is unlikely we'll see it over here, the U.S. model could get many of the same updates when it b…

Maybe we’ll finally get some respect for Buick with the 2006 Lucerne. It has been getting great reviews from the press (and so has its sister, the DTS) and now Buick is killing the Dream Up campaign and focusing on “Precision”. Three new TV ads will debut with the new “Beyond Precision” tagline focusing on precise panel gaps, heated wiper fluid, and “Mr. Aachen Head” a device that Buick uses to capture interior noise levels. GM will end production of Buick Rainier Division down to handful of models February 7, 2007 Detroit Press BY GREG BENSINGER BLOOMBERG NEWS General Motors Corp. will end production of the Buick Rainier SUV in the second quarter to trim the division's product line and spend more to develop and sell its remaining models. It isn't clear yet what effect the change might have on employment, he said. Advertisement GM CEO Rick Wagoner is paring Buick to three or four models, about half as many as in 2005. Buick is going a different route with their showing at the LA Auto Show next week. Instead of going all out with a swoopy, futuristic design that can run on unicorn farts, they're showing a plush version of the Buick LaCrosse, called the LaCrosse GL. On the outside, Buick has dressed the GL in a luscious red complimented by brushed and tinted chrome on the grill, door handles, and rear deck. The satin-finished twenty-inch wheels borrowed from the Regal GS finish the exterior. Inside, Buick fitted French-stitched leather in contrasting dark cocoa brown and caramel chocochino for the doors, dash, and seats. The headliner is finished in a chocochino suede while the dash, s…

I drove a new Lucerne yesterday; what an awesome car!! Quiet, powerful, tight yet very smooth ride; I may get one rather than a new Impala SS... The portholes on the Lucerne made me think... When did Buick do away with them alltogether? I'm thinking early to mid 1980's on the LeSabres and Electra/Park Avenues was the last time I remember seeing them in some form, but I might be wrong...

Of course nothing this good would happen but I did enjoy some of the chops found on this site, in particular the boat tail Velite they chopped. If they made a vehicle that looked like that for Buick it'd put the Corvette to shame (so obviously they won't do it)... but that would be one beautiful vehicle. Here is the link: http://www.gminsidenews.com/naias/revitalization/ I found out about it via an Edmunds article that is roughly 2 weeks old but I did not notice anything on here about it and thought I'd share. It's cute how the article points out their severe bias in their "What this means to you" section which exclaims: "At least somebody is still excited about Buick.…

Wow! Wait'll you see this: a pimped out Buick Lucerne DUB Edition, as reported by edmunds.com. The vehicle will be shown in 16 major U.S. markets this year. Personally I like the exterior with the 22-inch chrome rims and other effects; I don't need a TV screen or DVD inside, though. What do you think?

Can anyone post some real world pics of the 2007 Lucerne so we can see the colors accurately? I was just on their website and unfortunately they are not true to life depictions. My local dealers don't have much other than white, black, and silver. LIke to see the sagemist metallic, Ming Blue, Dark Claret, and the sandstone(?) darker beige color. Also I didn't see this on the Buick site, but can the interior be had with anything other than the woodgrain trim?

I'm on vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC and decided to drop into the local Buick dealership to pick up a LaCrosse brochure (which is very nice BTW) and I started a long conversation with one of the sales managers there. He confirmed to me that Buick is getting three new models over the next two years. The LaCrosse is the first, which will be followed soon by the new Regal and then, and here's where the conflict begins, the last will be a "Baby Enclave." I started talking to him about the Buick "Astra" model that has been photographed testing in China and Germany, and he acted as if he knew nothing about this. The prospect of a Baby Enclave is exciting to me, but the rumors ab…

We have been waiting to get our first look at the next-generation Buick Regal since spy shots of Opel Insignia first surfaced back in August. Well today, Motor Authority got their hands on the first spy shots of the next Regal. Much like the Insignia spy shots, the Regal mule is heavily camouflaged. But there is on detail that we can pull from the pictures. It looks like Buick is sticking with the sedan design. The Insignia spy shots revealed a fastback roof that was similar to the Audi A7. The Regal is expected to use the E2XX platform that currently underpins the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. It is expected that Opel will reveal the Insignia at the Paris Motor Show…

When you click on the Velite it comes up to a coloring page with the words "2006" and some language I dont understand. Could it say the 2006 Buick Velite? Could this be a sign that the Velite is coming? Who knows.... Yes im bored... :o

I know we've had a LaCrosse eAssist reviewed before but does anyone have experience with an eAssist Regal? Sounds whack but there are some 2014's on the used market here for about 18,5 and about 15k miles on them. Wonder about real mpg and if any reliability issues. Might be an option for a daily driver for me that I did not consider before. Otherwise thinking about Passat 1.8, Malibu, fusion etc as well as some smaller cars. Regal would be a huge upgrade.

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com April 19, 2013 In 2007, Buick introduced at the Shanghai Motor Show the Rivera Concept. Six years later, Buick unveiled a new Rivera concept the night before the Shanghai Motor Show. Deja Vu? Maybe. Buick says the Rivera concept gives a sneak peek what the brand's design language will look like in the future. The Rivera concept's shape is said to be inspired by "the Dynamic Nature of Water". Buick's trademark waterfall grille is present, along with a set of smooth, sweeping lines. Much like the last Rivera concept, the new concept features a set of gullwing doors. The Rivera concept uses a W-PHEV (wireless plug-in h…

Here are select photos I took at the Chicago Auto Show, all at Buick's exhibit. I hope that fellow Buick fans will enjoy them: I can tell you that the Enclave is beautiful! I was worried that it would be too big for me, but, in person, it didn't seem too big. Chunky or hefty, yes, but I don't mean that in a bad way, just a descriptive adjective. It looks very substantial. Though I arrived not long after the Show opened for the day, there were a lot of people looking at the various Buicks. The biggest variety of ages were looking at the Enclave. Mostly older people (gray hair) were looking at Lucerne (shown in about 4 different colors and trim…

Stopped by a Buick place today and touched a Verano. Didn't like the color.....red/gray. But the car is sharp. Looks like a larger car, and looks expensive. Parked next to a LaCrosse and Regal in total harmony. The Regal has a more avante garde look, but the Verano does have the looks to sell. Indeed. Makes the Focus look cheap and tawdry. Through the window, the interior looked consistent in quality to the Regal and the seats and dash look great. All the controls look really similar to the Regal's. Front seat looks spacious, rear looks tight for leg room. Seats looks very well sculpted. MPG on sticker of course is not eye popping, but sensible buyers will com…

At the 2025 Shanghai Mobility Show, Buick unveiled the Buick Electra GS Concept, a large EV sedan that showcases the brand's new Xaio Yao "super architecture". This concept leads the way for Buick's all-new sub-brand ELECTRA. Xaio Yao will underpin six new Buick models released over the next two years. While Buick says the platform is tailor made for the Chinese market, the technical specs are such that we can't help but hope that it comes to the U.S. as well. The key features of the platform are its ability to support multiple body styles, sizes, drive configurations, and propulsion systems. The platform can be configured as a pure electric (BEV), a plug-i…

Struggling to appeal to young buyers, Buick pins its future on change Friday, November 18, 2005 By Don Hammonds, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Buick, the linchpin around which General Motors built its empire, lately has been part of the problem rather than part of the solution for the struggling automaker. Like other GM makes, analysts say, Buick has been slow to respond to changes in market tastes, has kept cars on the market for too long without significant changes, and has a lingering consumer perception of quality control problems.... http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05322/608337.stm

I just read a couple of reviews of the new Buick Regal. Apparently GM invited journalists over to the Nurburgring to test drive it. There are some very, very positive comments on it that really have my hopes up for this car. For the full stories, click here: Motor Trend and here: Automobile Magazine Examples from Motor Trend: Examples from Automobile magazine: I really liked both our Saab 9-3 and our Saturn Aura and since this car is basically a mix of the two, it make sense that I really like it. I just hope GM launches this thing with a higher level of quality than they usually do.

The Pontiac Grand Prix and Buick Regal/LaCrosse have shared the same platform for 20 years. With the SWB Zeta G8 replacing the GP. The LaCrosse will likely be replaced by a SWB Zeta as well. Naturally the LWB Zeta would replace the Lucerne. The best part is that both Zetas could be here in 18 months. I can't wait! If anybody has proof that my speculation is correct. PLEASE! Post it!

G. Noble Editor/Reporter CheersandGears.com March 1, 2012 Since Buick reintroduced the Regal to the North American market back in 2010, there has been some enthusiasm for the return of the big-daddy GNX, the famous performance car of the ‘80s which was based around the then-current Regal. Well, since it appears that New Jersey-based tuning firm SLP has secured the rights to the “GNX” name, some of you may just get your wish. SLP released the teaser sketch you’re viewing just recently, which reveals that the new GNX will use the current Regal GS as its starting point. From there, it appears SLP will beef up the bodywork with unique flared fender extensions and lower r…

Earlier this week, we reported that General Motors faced a difficult decision with the upcoming Envision crossover: Do they import it from China or build it somewhere else just for the North American marketplace? This comes at an interesting time since Reuters is reporting that Buick's future lineup will be comprised of vehicles imported to North America. Speaking with two sources, the news service reports that only two models in Buick's future lineup, the next LaCrosse and Enclave will be built in the U.S. The rest will be imported from other countries. At the moment, the Encore subcompact crossover is the only Buick model that is imported to the U.S. This will soon …

Being new here I would like to know if anyone knows why no one ever finds a ming blue LeSabre or now the new Lucerne? My first choice was ming blue for my new Lucerne CXL but there was none anywhere.... I also have never seen this color in the LeSabre which I had previously. If this color is never used then why is it in the lineup? I think it makes a very regal looking automobile and especially would look great on the Lucerne. I did not want to wait to order one in the ming blue so got my second choice of Crimson Pearl... Just thought someone might have some statistics on this! Thanks!
