You can now install Cheers & Gears as an app on your phone and tablet. It's not in the app store; it's called a Progressive Web App, or PWA for short. The advantages are you can get notifications on your phone (don't worry, they're configurable, I'll show you further down) when someone replies to your post or sends you a message. iOS (16.4 and up) Make sure you're on the latest iOS version. iOS 16.4 was released on March 27th, 2023 and is the minimum for this process to work on Apple devices. On iOS devices, open Cheers & Gears in Safari and click the share icon at the bottom of the Safari window. Then scroll down to Add to Homescreen. …

What an intresting month, General Motors has a less than stellar month thanks to idot UAW workers striking, high gas prices and market heading towards the $h!ter. Toyota manages to push more ugly vanila Camry's than last May. My sons boss took his 2006 Ford F-150 Super Crew FX4 and traded it on a 2008 Honda Accord EX 4cyl. Sedan, lost his ass on the sweet red truck I know. (I can't fault him for getting a Honda my son said to him as long as it isn't a Toyota Ken (which it is not) I wish you the best of luck with it!) So let the rant begin. I can't believe the number of Prius's that keep poping up in my town. Those ugly little most likely slow moving "gr…

Just wanted to get a grip on who all is going to be here on Saturady to see Fly off on his journey. I don't know what we are going to be doing (after wasting a few hours checking out cars and talking cars). Going to have dinner somewhere has been suggested, which might be the best idea because it is going to be very hot and humid here according to the forecast. Anyway, I wanted to warn the neighbors (I live on a shared driveway) about the cars that will be showing up, so please confirm that you are coming in this thread. Should be a good time.

One of my 16 year old sons friends, who is 17 managed to get drunk with a girl and they wound up having sex. Now she is claiming that it wasn't consensual and is calling it date rape. Son's friend "GARY" (Not his real name) has been in our home in and out for years. Pretty good kid...I can't imagine him raping a girl. I don't really know what happened, but "Gary" is 20 days away from being 18 and is probably going to be tried as an adult. The judge he is going in front of is female and seems to by all accounts have a whole lot more symapthy for the girl than for "Gary." Being 18 and being in jail with a sex offense on your record is a lousy way to start life. Suc…

Well, I think it'd be interesting to see who's met with who? Today I met with AAS at NAIAS. He seems like a good guy. Well, $h!, he has a Camaro SS! Can't go wrong with that. I've hung out with Josh a few times too. And he also has a sweet ass car. And one day I'll race Sixty8 and another I'll talk cars with Cort (who I've talked to on the phone). I think I talked to CSpec on the phone once too..

I can't recall the last time I've seen so much snow on the ground! We got hit with another 6 inches of snow this morning, and a big Nor'easter is taking aim at us for Wednesday. But between now and then we're supposed to be getting the coldest weather we've seen in years here. Sunday highs will only make it to 16 and lows will be -16 or colder! It's a frozen, if pretty wasteland out there. Now I know what it's like for FapTurbo in July. Got prepared for this and bought some Iso-Heet for the cars on active duty and Marine Sta-bil (red stuff is junk) for the hibernating Intrepid. So how's the weather in your neck of the woods?

Its finally winter weather time. Its about 40 and windy after a rainy day. Tomorrows high is supposed to be 39. Going out anywhere is absolutely out of the question, cold weather puts a damper on just about everything. So we're coping the best way we know how, a fire going in the fireplace, some pizza and, soon enough, a viewing of Anchorman, because it remains the best movie ever made. Is there any better way to kick off 6 months of cabin fever?

Fuel economy is a buzz phrase that most car buyers/owners want to maximize. Accordingly, car manufacturers are striving to give buyers excellent MPG. Among newer Ch#$r%*ets, while not the most fuel-efficient models available, these are still considered by many to be "fuel efficient" (compared to say, trucks, SUVs, etc.), with figures I searched for online...: 2008 V6 malibu, FWD ... Should all the predictions of the Zeta platform's demise and the end of performance cars, v8s, and RWD come to pass, I have a suggestion for GM. Preserve one little corner of your empire that is inviolate and untouchable, an island of automotive joy amidst the sea of boredom coming our way. Keep this one small island sacrosanct and immune from the coming disaster. Don't make the error of leaving the good stuff entirely out of the portfolio as was done before. Keep just a few eggs in a different basket. What I am saying is simply this, use Pontiac as the lone standard-bearer for performance cars and let it truly be what it is meant to be at long last. Let this one bran…

A good buddy at work and fellow pre-war car fan (esp. Buick) got hit by a dumb lady in a Highlander... but he was on his "beater" bike, a late 1970s Honda. Damn near got killed. He said the lady in the Toyota NEVER looked, beeped his horn not once but twice as she ran the stop sign, braced for impact & then 3sec. later he had a bent fork, fu&$ed up hand/wrist/leg/arm not to mention a host of other injuries & damage to the bike. Sooooo fu#%ing typical of a Toyota owner. If you walk into a Toyota dealership chances are you should really be buying a buss pass, economy pack of metemucil &/or extra-absorbent depends. I talked to my Grandpa about co-signing a loan for me, but he thinks I have to be 18. I know I have to be 18 to get a loan, but what if I have a co-signer? Do I? Even to with someone to co-sign? That and and the other issue is insuring and registering it. First off, would I be able to register it at my age? If I can, would the car be able to be on my parents insurance plan, although registered under my name? Anyways... would I be better off just to convince my parents to just get the loan, but I'll pay it? Any help is appr…

It is highly encouraged for participants in this movement to wear red to signify to the world their desire for everyone to know who they are and what they believe in. The day commemorates October 11, 1987, when 500,000 people marched on Washington, USA, for gay and lesbian equality. Here's one with the happy owner: He is extremely pleased with his Fisher Price Power Wheels Ford F150 STX with Monster Traction! Credit first must be given to ToniCipriani for his thread on a "Saturn Astra" trademark that GM has recently registered: http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...view=getnewpost I decided to do some snooping on the site he cited and this is what I found so far: -Nissan Motors has recently registered the names "G37", "FX37", and "M37" for its Infiniti brand. This pretty much is a confirmation of the rumor of the size of Nissan's new VQ (or VQ-derived) V6 engine. Now we just have to see if the 330hp claims are also true. -Toyota Motors last summer reigstered "LX520", "LX550", "LX570" and "LX600". Obviously, they're not going to use all of these but based on the new …

So I ran out to get some errands done. Here is what happened on the freeway and my understanding of the lanes here in Washington State. Far left lane for passing and those wanting to go a bit faster than the posted limit. Middle lane is for going at least the speed limit. Far right lane is for going speed limit or slower and exiting the freeway. I got onto the freeway, traffic moving below the posted 60 so moved over into the middle lane and ended up behind a lazy person going 10 under the speed limit. Full traffic behind and besides me in the left lane, so just stayed where I was at. The traffic in front of the person clears out so this person could speed up t…

Disclaimer: this is all personal rambling. If you want to get to the meat of the story, skip the prologue. Well, as I mentioned here before, I'm entering what has turned out to be a transitional period in my life. On October 18th, I quit my job after a two-weeks notice. I had been working for Guitar Center for almost a year (about three weeks shy of that mark) earning minimum wage plus commission where it was a sales-based job. While the job was not physically taxing, it was very mentally demanding and the constant long hours left me feeling trapped and continuously fatigued. It was a very financially unpredictable job as well because of the country's unbalanced economy…

Masato, a small-business owner, bought a $500,000 condominium, vacationed in Hawaii and drove a late-model Mercedes. But his living standards slowly crumbled along with Japan’s overall economy. First, he was forced to reduce trips abroad and then eliminate them. Then he traded the Mercedes for a cheaper domestic model. Last year, he sold his condo — for a third of what he paid for it, and for less than what he still owed on the mortgage he to…

If tasked to choose a single car from the year you were born, what would you choose? For me, 1988 is an interesting year. With its arrival, the U.S. saw the first George Bush become president, while George Micheal ended the year with the best selling album and number one single. The Young and the Restless began its streak as the number 1 daytime drama in television as Rain Man finished the year as the highest grossing film. It is also the year in which Enzo Ferrari passed away, singers Adele and Rihanna were born, and Sega introduced its Mega-Drive (later called the Genesis in the U.S.). Going back to the automotive industry, Volkswagen closed its Westmoreland pla…

Anybody ever heard of this before? I stumbled across this today and it sounds pretty cool...I wish GM would have produced it. The Lumina Z50 idea was born in 1988 and was a Chevy Lumina with a 305 V8, AWD, and a five speed transmission. It would have had 285 hp and 280 lb ft of torque.

I was kind of wondering how old most people are around here? I am 26 and getting ready to purchase a LaCrosse in the next month or so. I am guessing I am on the younger side for this board since the guy at the dealership looked at me funny and said he as not sold a LaCrosse to anyone under 45.

I was talking to a guy the other day about a Caprice wagon and the SPID sticker said 1A2. The 1A2 RPO code was the special service code for fleet/police vehicles. However, this wagon was used for police service in Canada and was 1 of 8 imported that year. Only 70 were made for total production. The car still has the ticket reading light and everything but this was an unmarked car in its day. I am looking at this car for a friend who wants a sleeper car as his driver. Does anybody know what kind of fuel mileage it would get? 3rd seats are deleted, no speed limiter, still has the police spotlights and SEO wheels and center caps? The car is in decent shape with some rust but…

Top 10 recently canceled vehicles that should be brought back. We're going to get a poll going on this, but first we need some candidate submissions. Here are the rules: Each person can submit ONE vehicle (or vehicle model line if there are multiple body styles) It has to be from a brand that is still in business today (it can't be brought back if there aren't dealers to sell it at) It must be from within the past 10 model years. Include your submission and an explanation of why you think it should be brought back and why it should not have been canceled in the first place. I got this idea after seeing three in a row of a vehicle that will likely be my submission..…

Kicking this off as I saw a brand new Cadillac Escalade sport edition all Matte Black. I suspect a custom paint job as I do not see Matte paint on the option list of the web site. New purchase from my local Cadillac dealership I go too. Plenty of blah appliance auto's today, but one consistent observation, so much body damage on 1 and 2 year old auto's from corners of the bumpers crushed in to side swipes. Very weird especially as I saw a number of subcompacts from Honda Fit to Mini with this kind of damage today as I ran to Costco.

Well there's no turning back now. Found myself a decent "Heritage of Ownership" medallion for a first Cadillac on eBay, and that in and of itself is the symbolic beginning of a search that will likely define this year. Mercifully my insurance didn't go up last year after the two accidents I was involved in (though neither of them were my fault in the slightest), in fact my insurance went down- substantially. I have decided that I need a little project on the side to keep me busy (and sane) and have decided to fulfill a childhood dream, killing two birds with one stone. I'm going to find myself a 94-96 Fleetwood Brougham. I'm hoping to find something within Canada b…

This should be easy. There are tons of great car movies to choose from - Fast and Furious, Death Race, Smokey and the Bandit, Christine. I'm going to go for an obscure, GenX horror flick a la Spielberg's Dual. The name of the movie, fittingly, is simply "The Car." James Brolin starred as a Western sheriff tasked with protecting his community from a possessed, driverless car. Very cool flick. What's your favorite?

Well now that all the new cars are starting to debut, my photos from the previous season start to become worthless. Heh, oh well. Anyhow I thought Id post some that were never published. I'll have something nice to post once the Nitro debuts. '07 Edge: This Edge prototypes was being loading and this was the last angle I shot. The older guy sees me and says in sort of a long, drawn out, grandfatherly tone "heeeeeeey....he's takin pictures." Then his wife's head pops out of the car. Sort of 2 deer in headlights. I guess it might be a "you had to be there" moment for it to be funny. They didn't seem to care that I was shooting at all....which is always the best kind of…

Keep in mind that my tastes in automotive styling are a bit off-center...I mean, I *liked* the looks of the AMC Pacer for cryin' out loud...but I saw two different vehicles yesterday that struck me as heinously ugly. The first was a current model Nissan Quest. OMG, what a disjointed mishmash of disjointed stylistic crap! The other was a BMW X6. I generally like fastbacks (even on the Honda Crosstour), but the X6 version just looks like excrement to me. Sorry for the crabby old guy bitching session.

Commuting to work this morning, I thought this was a joke. But it's true. The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, the "workhorse" of the bridges in the Bay Area, is closed. This one connects to the city to the East Bay where millions of people live in Oakland, Berkeley, and many other towns. (The postcard bridge, the Golden Gate, connects the city to more remote, way more expensive and less populous areas). Unlike almost exactly 20 years ago (Oct 17, 1989) when the Loma Prieta Quake popped a section out of the roadway, this time, there was no natural disaster. A connecting rod on the "East Span," which they are actually replacing with an entirely new bridge as we spe…

The 3rd annual Keeneland carshow was today. Featured make was the Corvette, all makes and trims welcome for the Corvette, so there were supposedly over 200 Vettes at the show. I took pictures of the classic ones, since any of us can usually walk outside and see a C4/C5/C6. Strangely, there were no C6 Z06's, which struck me as odd. Also at the show were 5 Corvette Concepts on loan from the GM Heritage Museum: Mako Shark, Mako Shark 2, Aerovette, Sting Ray 2 and Sting Ray 3. BEAUTIFUL cars. Here are my pictures!

Today, I went to York, PA and drove some vehicles. I am in another car buying mood, as some of yous have gleaned from my rambling. So without further ado... 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek manual, blue with tan cloth Drives nice, easy shifting manual, excessive engine noise at highway cruise speed, and road noise on a coarse section of 4-lane blacktop. I kept trying to upshift, but I was already in high gear. Weak stereo. Nice high hip point for excellent vision. $23k. Ride is stiffer than my Patriot if you can believe that. It's well-sprung. Spoke to sales guy about my dislike for CVTs. He says people actually like them, but when pressed, he wouldn't cough up any na…

Slow right now at my work and slow on the forum so I figured I start something fun similar to what we did last year. Rules: 1. You have to pick TWO car manufacturers: ONE is your favorite, the one you will most likely buy a vehicle from and the SECOND is your least favorite, one that you are least likely to buy from. 2. Pick TWO vehicles from EACH car manufacturer: daily driver and fun/weekend/utility car or truck. Please be honest in your choices to make it harder and more fun.

Hi everyone! I thought I'd share the good news that I am now ServSafe Certified meaning that I have been properly trained in food handling, food safety, and essential hygenic and sanitary practices to help ensure that whatever you eat that I have been involved in preparing and monitering will not be laden with dangerous contaminates; whether they be of physical, biological, or chemical nature. On my exam, which requires a 75% to pass, I attained a 91%, that, although not perfect, was the best score that has been seen in some time according to our McDonald's Marketing Director Denise Mansfield! I had heard that the exam was "so hard" and that a student who had been f…

-- This thread will not tolerate flaming of any kind, it is intended to be a "civilized argument" encouraging critical thinking that lends itself to further evolving and refining our world. It focuses mainly on American Culture (the fastest growing culture in history) however foreign cultural views are more than welcome, as everything lends insight. To kick it off... Modern American Culture has evolved so rapidly that America is losing its cohesiveness, and is slowly destroying the traditional place of the family. What is your opinion on this relatively new trend (post WW2)? Is this good or bad? what are its consequences? what does it provide to our soc…

However not on the terms I had planned. Here goes. My brother started college in Dartmouth last fall, and wanted to come home weekends. Myself and my girlfriend agreed to make the 4 hour round trip to get him and my mother to trip to take him back. That was the agreement. What enede up happening is she was too lazy to do it herself, and we got stuck doing it every week, Fridays and Sundays until vacation. We had a talk, which she got pissy about, but in the end agreed yet again to do it 50/50. Fast forward to last week, I go with her to show her the way, but explain that my girfriend and I want to stay home, so neither one of us would join. This ment she'd drive the way…

So my dad sent me this email and I am wondering if there is any truth to it. Are these up around Detroit? These are actual billboards in Detroit , Michigan put up by GM. This is definitely cool ! NEW CHEVY BILLBOARDS POSTED AROUND DETROIT I have to say that if these are real billboards, then GM needs to do this across America.

I don't see many of these anymore. Most are in the car graveyard in the sky somewhere. Or, hopefully, recycled. This is an Olds Silhouette minivan from GM's first whack at minivans ... the ones with the long snout. In reviews I've read of these, it said driving one seemed like you were driving them from the back seat! I'm guessing early '90s. It's in incredible condition - the body, the hardware, an original paint color, and it's badged to have a 3800, probably a Series I. No wonder it has been around for so long. Of the GM minivans, I'd give the nod to the Olds Silhouette, followed by the Pontiac Trans Sport, and then the Chevy Venture…
