  3. GM is working to address the new small RWD segment that Toytoa has already taken too. It is said they are looking to enter this segment and will do so with not a Alpha car but a new platform using what they learned on the Alpha. I see the Camaro now not needing to sell 100,000 units to be more of a lower volume power house at a price and Chevy offering and growing a smaller segment with the Turbo 4, I like this vs forcing the Turbo 4 in the Camaro. I would forget the R130 styling as it is already dated and not as sporting as the present Toyota offering. I expect they will do a more global styling and may go a little more retro with the Camaro than I was expecting with t…

Today, General Motors announced certain details on their new pickups. The details concern figures on the 5.3L V8 and the base prices for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. We'll start with the new EcoTec 5.3L V8 engine. The engine which will be a $895 option of the Silverado and Sierra produces 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque – increases of 40 horsepower and 48 pound-feet compared to the 5.3L V8 used in the 2013 model. This allows the Sierra and Silverado to have a max payload of 2,102 pounds and a max tow rating o…

  6. Chevrolet has revealed the first details and images of the upcoming 2020 Silverado HD that will be premiering in February - most likely at the Chicago Auto Show. The most evident item that will determine whether or not you like the truck is the front end. Chevrolet wanted to make the heavy-duty Silverado slightly different than its light-duty brother. This is done via a larger grille with an industrial look. Other design changes include squared-off fenders and smoother surfacing on the sides. Chevrolet has introduced a set of integrated steps into the side of the bed that is said to help with access to the available fifth-wheel hitch. No pictures of the interior were …

  7. Chevrolet has canceled the Malibu Hybrid for the 2020 model year. What? You forgot they even offered one? It's not surprising. It's tough out there for slow selling sedans these days and the Malibu Hybrid was probably one of the slowest selling of the General's current lineup. The move leaves GM with no full hybrid vehicles at all in the lineup. This comes after the cancellation of the plug-in Chevy Volt earlier this year. The only electrified vehicle, for now, is the diminutive Chevy Bolt. GM is rumored to be working hard on an electric or electrified truck, and has plans to electrify most of the Cadillac lineup, even going so far as to promise the UAW that the L…

Corvette production interrupted due to wheel supply issue AutoWeek | Published 12/28/05, 3:25 pm et General Motors has sent a memo to dealers informing them that Corvette wheel supply has “experienced significant disruption” and production of certain models could be delayed as a result. GM says the wheel supply situation has caused it to make “several adjustments affecting wheel options, production volumes and production schedules.” Dealers will have to change Corvette orders based on wheel availability. Wheel company Amcast, which went into bankruptcy on Dec. 2, supplied the wheels. GM says wheel supply is still uncertain, and thus GM’s order fu…

  14. Cruze Diesel Has 50 MPG Target On Its Back William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com August 17, 2011 GM is busy working on getting the Chevrolet Cruze Diesel for its launch in 2013 and some tidbits about the diesel are beginning to come out. Ward's Auto reports that "sources" are saying the Cruze Diesel has a target of 50 MPG on the highway. “If we’re getting 42 (mpg) on the Eco, we’ll do better on the diesel. You could envision 50 mpg,” said one of the sources. Because of this, General Motors has announced mid-cycle refresh of the new Malibu coming out late 2013, eighteen months after the Malibu was launched. Malibu Maxx stands alone NEW VEHICLE REVIEWS By Russ Heaps SPECIAL TO THE WASHINGTON TIMES November 25, 2005 If you still need evidence that there is indeed forward thinking going on at General Motors, take a gander at Chevrolet's Malibu Maxx. Before evaluating details such as the quality of materials used inside the cabin, keep in mind that Chevrolet's assignment in the GM pecking order is affordable transportation. But of course It probably would have been a stripped down Monte Carlo,or would it have been the basis for the Monte Carlo?(How Ironic! The Monte was a plusher version of the Chevelle!) In my scenario, the Heavy Chevy would have continued on, and eventually, the Monte Carlo would take the long walk in 1981, and the proposed Monte SS would have become the Chevelle SS! 28. AutoGuide recently obtained a California Air Resources Board (CARB) document listing the pairings for the 6.2L V8 and various transmissions for the 2019 Camaro and Corvette. In the 'Trans Type' column, the Camaro is listed with M6, M7, and SA8. The middle one is the interesting bit as it hints that the Camaro will get a seven-speed manual. AutoGuide believes the seven-speed in question is the one used in the Corvette. But there arises an issue with this conclusion. The seven-speed manual transmission for the Corvette mounts at the rear axle, whereas the manual transmission for the Camaro mounts at the engine. So GM could either figure out some way of finagling the Co…

  39. 19 owners of the 2006 - 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and 427 models have filed a class-action lawsuit against General Motors against an engine issue. According to Law360, General Motors began testing vehicles equipped with the V8 and were able to replicate the problem. Several years away is a minicar with excellent fuel economy. Aveo: The subcompact will be redesigned for the 2011 model year. …

Someone help me out on this one. The 2006 Impala's 3.5 V-6 (210 hp) can take E-85 gas, but not the 3.5 in the Malibu, G6. For that matter, why don't all of GM's passenger V-6 and V-8 engines at least have the option of E-85 gas? The station down the street from my office is selling 101 octane E-85 at $1.98 per gallon, as opposed to the $2.79 for low octane unleaded at the same station. GM needs to get out in front of this issue. E-85 gas helps reduce our foreign oil dependency (which multiplies American power in the world), is good for the environment and helps the American farmer. Why doesn't GM at least offer E-85 compatability as an opti…

There is a sideview of what's described as the 2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer at popularmechanics.com in their November "Detroit Spy Report." Insiders will have to comment on its accuracy, but I personally think the drawing is quite appealing, with fresh edges and shapes.

On the other hand the sources are quetionable. The 3.5 and 3.9 v6s arent used in anything else though at this point so maybe there is a grain of truth to this. I always heard that the 6 speed tranny wouldn't fit or there was some sort of complication with it and the W-body.

So I gets a letter in the mail from some settlement claims place in like Butt, Montana telling me about a class action lawsuit against GM for faulty speedometers in their 03-05 m/y 15/25/3500's (Tahoe, Yukon, Silverado, Sierra, Avalanche, Suburban). Says basically the original speedometers will...not may, will go bad at one time or another, either displaying the wrong speed, or no speed at all. My Silverado is an 04, I bought it with 40k on it this past December. In January, the speedo took a dump on me, reading anything from 30-60 miles under. Once, it read 90 while I was stopped! So I took it in, the service guy told me there was a special "program" going on to rep…

Hi guys, newbie here. I noticed in another thread discussion about Motor Trend's bias against GM in favor of Toyota. Are there any good resources out there that present facts without Japanese bias? I support American car companies and have GM vehicles. I have inlaws that no nothing about cars, swear American is garbage, think Consumer Reports (CR) is the bible, and are ready to trade off their Chevrolet on a Nissan because they had to replace a fuel filter. Anyway, I get an issue of CR to see what their deal is. I find rave reviews of a Tundra that isn't even out yet, nothing very positive in comparisson about GM's GMT 900's, Honda Ridgeline is the top rated p…

  86. Sometimes, less is more. At the Work Truck Show in Indianapolis today, Chevrolet unveiled a Box Delete option for their Colorado Work Truck. By removing the box (a $300 credit towards the MSRP), Chevrolet is giving fleet and commercial buyers more flexibility in their trucks. The box delete option will only be available on two-wheel drive extended cab work truck models and only with the 3.6 liter, 305 hp V6. Buyers will also be able to opt for a rear seat delete to have additional cargo capacity in the cab. While Chevrolet says that the Colorado is the only truck in the mid-size truck segment with the box-delete option, that status may not last for long if the rumors of…

Cobalt SS coupe and sedan models feature a 171-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine as well as suspension and styling enhancements. A freshening is planned for the 2008 model year. GM is exploring an awd Cobalt variant that likely would be aimed at the Mitsubishi Evolution and Subaru WRX." -AutoWeek. I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I would believe it to be reasonably so. An all wheel drive Cobalt sure seems exciting!

Here is some of what Bob had to say on the new Camaro. This was posted on the z28Camaro.com web site. "All of us are hoping (the Camaro) will be a production-approved program" in the very near future, said GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz, adding that "We're all working on it as if it were an approved program." The "heritage" Camaro, which debuted in January, proved one of the most popular concepts at this year's Detroit auto show, but even as GM planners continue studying ways to craft a profitable business case, development work is moving ahead. "We're not wasting any time, said Lutz. "There is no reason to assume they would turn it down," he said of the GM board. Meanwhile,…

  96. If it weren't for focus groups, the design of the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox could have looked so much different. Speaking to Automotive News, chief engineer of the 2018 Equinox Mark Cieslak revealed that focus groups weren't not impressed with the first designs of the redesigned model. They described the design as being bulky, 'not compelling', and looking a bit odd. If this was old GM, they would have gone forward with the design. "Back in the day, we would have probably just kept going," said Cieslak. "What we had on paper we felt was not going to win." But this being the new GM where bean counters lost a fair amount of influence, the decision was made …
