See that? That's what I'm going to do with my virus-infested PC. Anyone here have any idea why I have to turn my computer off 3 times or more in order for the f@#king thing to boot up, or why when I use Google, it doesn't take me to, say, the Wikipedia page I wanted but websites with the names of "gooooosearch.com" or "breast-site.net?" I hate Windows. I've been trying for months to fix this, with no luck. I'm going to buy a Mac next. I can't stand Micro$h! anymore.

I borrowed a friend's Alero 4-cylinder today. Pleasent little car, decent power, decent interior. With gas hovering at $3.00 a gallon and only going higher, I began thinking about alternatives to replacing my current CTS with an '08 CTS and instead finding a 4-cylinder premium car. I'm considering my options: Audi A4 2.0t Acura TSX 5-speed Saab 9-3 2.0t Volvo S40 I'm not entirely thrilled about any of those choices... the 9-3 would be ok, but doesn't light my fire. I know the Aura is coming, but my concern is that they'll package the Green-Line in a way that you can't get a loaded one. What I want is a completely loaded premium car with great fuel mileage…

I say Toyota Camry/Avalon or some other non-exciting Toyota. Not saying that Supra, Celica & MR2 drivers are angels but they tend to be about average... not better or worse than most. Me and XP had this conversation after we noticed on a few road trips that about 60-70% of all awkward driving situations were caused by drivers in Toyota cars. They cut people off, have no concept of the blind spot & to make matters worse in some cases they're clueless & jerks. A very bad combination on today's roads. Your feelings on this matter?

Today I went to an auto auction in Salem (the one where the Intrepid came from) for fun...just to see what they had. On my way back I decided to take the highway home. I get off onto the exit ramp, which has a lot of cars on it...it is rush hour. I patiently wait for teh cars to go...they have to wait to go because it merges into a rotary. My turn comes up. I move forward no more than a couple of feet to see if there are any cars coming through the rotary. There are, so I stop and wait for them to go past. As I'm watching I see a big truck barreling towards me in my rear view mirror. I only had enough time to think, 'he's going too fast to stop." This happened at about 5…

The BEP thread got me thinking about annoying songs. There are a lot of songs that I dislike because they suck or because they get overplayed or they just rub me the wrong way. But I really think Panda Panda Panda by Deerhoof is the most annoying song ever. It sounds like something a 5 year old would walk around singing.

Just wanted to get a grip on who all is going to be here on Saturady to see Fly off on his journey. I don't know what we are going to be doing (after wasting a few hours checking out cars and talking cars). Going to have dinner somewhere has been suggested, which might be the best idea because it is going to be very hot and humid here according to the forecast. Anyway, I wanted to warn the neighbors (I live on a shared driveway) about the cars that will be showing up, so please confirm that you are coming in this thread. Should be a good time.

Alright, I'm quite serious about wanting to buy that BMW 318ti. My parent's aren't turned off by it, either. However, I need to find a way how... I talked to my Grandpa about co-signing a loan for me, but he thinks I have to be 18. I know I have to be 18 to get a loan, but what if I have a co-signer? Do I? Even to with someone to co-sign? That and and the other issue is insuring and registering it. First off, would I be able to register it at my age? If I can, would the car be able to be on my parents insurance plan, although registered under my name? Anyways... would I be better off just to convince my parents to just get the loan, but I'll pay it? Any help is appr…

Here we go- wife & I have agreed it's time to go replacin' ... esp based on the fact I am looking at $4500 for my '94 F-150 (provided we use a dealer who participates, right?) - whose trade-in value according to KBB is $513. That's a travesty, IMO. The F-150 (as sad as it would make me to condemn it to crushing- my only new purchase) would go as the trade toward replacing her '03 GP SE. That's been a VG car and she still likes it, but the mileage is getting where I'd rather she was in something newer, and 1-2 more years withOUT the CARS cash is doing no one any favors here. She's not necc against some sort of smaller crossover/ SUV, but as a rule, they get worse…

Fuel economy is a buzz phrase that most car buyers/owners want to maximize. Accordingly, car manufacturers are striving to give buyers excellent MPG. Never heard of this before... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Coming_Out_Day National Coming Out Day is observed on October 11 by members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities and their allies. It is highly encouraged for participants in this movement to wear red to signify to the world their desire for everyone to know who they are and what they believe in. The day commemorates October 11, 1987, when 500,000 people marched on Washington, USA, for gay and lesbian equality. National Coming Out Day events are aimed at raising awareness of the LGBT community among the general populace in an effort to give a familiar face to the LGBT rights…

First and foremost, Starbucks is a stomping ground for losers involved in multi-level marketing....Amway, Quixtar, etc. These people are the bottom of the cesspool and it's too bad they have to bother people wanting to enjoy a cup at Starbucks or peruse books at B&N. I know next to nothing about what's out there for motorcycles. I'm in the process of getting my motorcycle license. My very good friend who I'd like to go riding with has this: A 2015 Ducati Streetfighter. While I think it's a hot bike, I also am certain it is not for me. I don't want to be hunched forward and I want to be able to put a passenger on the back. The bike I've admired for a while is the Yamaha Roadliner Midnight I like the bike, but want something a bit more sporty without going to the extreme of the Ducati Thoughts?

It probably ticks me off more than any other aspect of the current automotive industry. I HATE 4-doors! Why must every damn car have four freakin doors? I would choose any other bodystyle over the bland sedan, it is absolutely lame that so many cars are only offered in that oh-so-boring form. Over the past few decades, we have lost so many opportunities to have had interesting versions of cars that restricted to sedan-only form. Imagine what a b-body Impala SS coupe and convertible would have been like. Or more recently, a G8 Coupe ( or wagon , or convertible, or the ST) could have given me an option other than the nuclear one I've chosen. But no, all w…

I am looking at getting myself some cheap wheels for spring/summer. Maximum price of $3000 CAD I would really like an Achieva (1994 or 1995 is my preference). I found an ad on Saturday for a 1994 Achieva S sedan with 160,000 Kilometers for $2200. Called, and a lady told me she had bought a Corolla, and wants to get rid of the Olds pronto. I asked over the phone if its a V6 or 4, but she said she didnt know, she would have to look in the manual (haha women driver). I came to look at it on Sunday, and was mildly dissapointed. It is a rock bottom base model. It has the 2.3 OHV I4, 3 speed auto, 14inch wheelcovers, and crank windows. The best part was, it is …

Worst Car Showcase Presents: The Cadillac Cimarron Cadillac, since the dawn of its inception until the late 1970s, branded itself as the “Standard of the World.” Everyone who was anyone the world over aspired to own one; owning a Cadillac was a cornerstone of the American dream; lusting over those characteristic sharp lines was just as natural as lusting over a centerfold model in Playboy. Cadillac cars were at the top of the automotive food chain with their vast, vault-like interiors and massive, powerful engines and no other luxury car could ever come close. However, after OPEC formed and the 1970s gas crunch marched its way upon America’s shores, Cadillac’s …

Okay, I'm going to be corny and unoriginal by posting the same kind of thread that Camino did a while back. Basically this is you opportunity to influence what I buy when I trade in 1997 Cadillac STS. Before we start here's a few ground rules: RWD is pretty much a must, that's the only thing that is not negotiable. Rear-biased AWD however is okay. A FWD car would have to be extremely unique/original/rare to even be considered. You guys know I'm RWD obsessed, let's not get into semantics. Other than Lexus I will consider any RWD Car... and for the right price a GS might, I said MIGHT be tempting. A V8 is not a must but a pushrod V8 or inline-six would be prefered, esp…

I've mentioned before my mother recently has gotten a "thing" for new Camaro's, calling me about ones she sees, pointing them out when out, asking me questions about them, etc. Yesterday I was actually home for once and while she was cooking dinner, 5pm rolled around and I clicked on Motorweek in the kitchen. This week's first test, the Camaro SS. Typically I'd be the only one interested in this show at all, but from the second "Camaro" was uttered a certain someone ordered "quiet!", turned up the volume, and intently stopped what she was doing to watch every second of the review. As a Buick owner for 28 years and a current 2006 Buick Lucerne owner, it is with nostalgia that I say Good Bye to Buick. I am hopeful that Buick does not go the way of Oldsmobile. However, it is the forgotten stepchild of GM relegated to a small room in the attic. Tomorrow I take a last and longing look at this old friend as I step into the new world of my 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid. I once swore never to darken the steps of the foreign auto market. But as the Buick I once knew slipped silently away into the attic room neglected I reluctantly yet with anticipation look forward to a new day in my hybrid. Farewell Old Friend!

It's been a crummy week, that's for sure. Today I was planning to go to the parts stores and get some prices on a tie rod puller and a torque wrench, and see if buying them plus the bushings would be cheaper than having the shop doing the inner tie rod bushing for the Intrepid. At about 12:30 I head out. Since the Prizm was across the street out front (and I had yanked the starter relay out of the Intrepid and forgot it) I figured I'd take that. I walk over to it and unlock the door and notice something sitting on the center console. Open it up and come to find that someone had broken the rear quarter window, broken the center stack bezel, and ripped out the cheap Son…

Voila: Come to think of it, for once, the Buick was the best looking of the Malibu-LeMans-Cutlass-Skylark fraternal quadruplets. The front and rear were clean and interesting enough. The side profile had nothing garish about it, including when closed up with a hardtop. And the dash had tasteful square bezels with small rounded corners. It came with quite a few engines. There were definitely 350s and 455s, but I learned that the 250 c.i. 6 was also available (read the fine …

My first accident with the Aurora occured when a Toyota 4Runner backed into me at the mall, damaging my hood and bumper guard. My second accident occured when a Ford Mustang plowed into me on the beach, crippling my car just as I drove it home as it had busted a tie rod, right fender, bumper cover, and A/C compressor. My third accident occured when a Toyota Solara ran into me as I was stopped at a pedestrian crosswalk, causing minimal damage to the rear bumper cover. My fourth accident occured when a Toyota Tundra sideswiped me as my car sat minding its own business in a parking lot at Home Depot, nearly totalling the car and necessitating repair of pretty much the ent…

Is there anything good in your boss' vision of the new GM? Seriously, where are his "gotta have" products? We've yet to see anything worth talking about. Is it really all about bland, midsize FWD sedans? Surely there must be something.

Phantoms (cars the factory could have built, but didn't) have always been a passion of mine. One great example would be a 94-96 Impala SS 2-door convertible - a car that would be a major collectible now had it been built IMO. So, what Phantoms would you like to build if money were not an issue?

Every place I've ever worked (and college/univ., too, for that matter) had those cliques that went out and took their smoke breaks together. It's a weird cult of sorts, in my mind. I've also noticed that, working for architectural firms, most of the "smoking circles" were the less productive employees (in the firms I've been employed by)...and they seem to have more Jerry Springer type drama in their lives. Yeah, I know, I'm a stereotyping jerk, but now having worked for a handful of architectural firms, this pattern seems to hold up. Any observations about smoking cliques?

I was kind of wondering how old most people are around here? I am 26 and getting ready to purchase a LaCrosse in the next month or so. I am guessing I am on the younger side for this board since the guy at the dealership looked at me funny and said he as not sold a LaCrosse to anyone under 45.

Hey all. Sorry I've been away for so long. Life has taken some very very weird turns for me in the last 8 months and I've been in some bad places. I'll update you on all of that in another post. In the meantime.....If you remember, I've been driving my partner's father's 2014 Cruze since November 18. We took over the loan when we took the car and in May I got tired of the monthly payment so I just paid off the remaining $3.3k. We're keeping the Encore for now. It just passed 100k miles and has been great for us. It's in excellent condition, so we expect to have it for another 50k miles or so. After the payoff, once he got the title, we transferred the Cruze i…

While sitting at a light I saw this clean '66 Ford F100 at a gas station..just out of the picture to the left behind a bus stop was a turquoise '66 Mustang convertible and a primered 1950-ish Chevy panel truck. Also saw a clean white w/ white interior '74 Pontiac Grand Ville convertible in traffic, rolling top down on this unseasonable 90 degree afternoon...

List some city names you hear butchered on occasion Pueblo, CO - I heard someone call it "Pweeblo" one time, I actually laughed at that one Des Moines, IA (should be pronounced Deh Moyn...it's French so you don't pronounce the 's', yet some people in this state still say it wrong) Sioux City, IA (should be Soo City, not Sooux City or Seeoux City) Council Bluffs, IA (the lady on the local radio station in my hometown says "Consul Bluss"...come on, try at least) Boise, ID (Boy-see, not Boyz-ee) And not a city, but Buena Vista University in Storm Lake; nobody in this state seems to know the right way to say it unless they've taken Spanish...they say "Byoona Viss…

Disclaimer: this is all personal rambling. If you want to get to the meat of the story, skip the prologue. Well, as I mentioned here before, I'm entering what has turned out to be a transitional period in my life. On October 18th, I quit my job after a two-weeks notice. I had been working for Guitar Center for almost a year (about three weeks shy of that mark) earning minimum wage plus commission where it was a sales-based job. While the job was not physically taxing, it was very mentally demanding and the constant long hours left me feeling trapped and continuously fatigued. It was a very financially unpredictable job as well because of the country's unbalanced economy…

Well, with Christmas decorations going up in the department stores, that can only mean one thing, it's almost Halloween! What have you seen on the roads as you're out and about, dodging spirits? Wicked black A5 for me today, and about 4 million Cobalts. Isn't it funny that as soon as you buy a certain vehicle, you start to notice every single one you pass by?

What extinct or endangered body style do you want to see come back? February 13th, 2011 Drew Dowdell - CheersandGears.com Over the years body styles have come and gone. Oh sure, the basic trio of sedan, coupe, wagon are still around, but even those three had subtypes. The example shown above is from my personal favorite body style. The Cadillac Eldorado was a coupe, yes, but it was of a subtype called a Personal Luxury Coupe. This sub-type of coupe was marketed as it's own category in years past. Indeed in 1980, there were no less than 14 Personal Luxury Coupe models offered by just the Detroit three. By 1990, that number was down to about 8 and by 2000 only the Cad…

I washed/waxed/cleaned the '87 MC LS this past Saturday ... but, didn't get the older 4 MCs out yet. On Sunday, I was feeling too many muscles that I had forgotten to muster the energy and patience to get the older ones out. Ah, well ... perhaps this coming weekend . Anyway ... I went for a short drive in the '87 MC LS Sunday afternoon ... after having lunch and spending some time with my sis and bro-in-law. On the way home, I stopped at a gas station to fill 'er up. As I was doing so, a guy parked next to me at another pump was shaking his head, looking at my car. So, I asked him if something was wrong.... He said something about how "you guys don't seem to get it…

Well now that all the new cars are starting to debut, my photos from the previous season start to become worthless. Heh, oh well. Anyhow I thought Id post some that were never published. I'll have something nice to post once the Nitro debuts. '07 Edge: This Edge prototypes was being loading and this was the last angle I shot. The older guy sees me and says in sort of a long, drawn out, grandfatherly tone "heeeeeeey....he's takin pictures." Then his wife's head pops out of the car. Sort of 2 deer in headlights. I guess it might be a "you had to be there" moment for it to be funny. They didn't seem to care that I was shooting at all....which is always the best kind of…
