I saw 2 new Impalas on the lot at my local dealer the other day, and I have a few questions about ordering models and options.. One of the cars was a Black SS with light grey leather interior, but it had the woodgrain dash applique instead of the Chrome-ish stuff that I thought was specific to the SS. Can you order an SS with the woodgrain dash, or one of the other models with the chrome? The other car on the lot was a dark gray "3LT" that also had the light gray leather, but it also had the 3.9 V6; I thought that the 3.9 was specific only to the LTZ... this car had LTZ wheels and stickered out at over $28K; seems to me that if you can order a "3LT&…

  4. In some ways, old-school General Motors is still around. This time it is over the tone-deafness of placing a Mexican built product on display at Comerica Park in Detroit just months after announcing the shutdown of GM two plants in Michigan. GM said in a statement that it picked the Blazer, along with the Silverado, for display because the vehicle is brand new and the Blazer is an iconic American nameplate. However, people are upset with GM for the pick of a Mexican built vehicle when two plants in Michigan, Warren and Detroit-Hamtramck will be closing and thousands of jobs will be lost. Now, just days after being installed over centerfield at the park, GM i…

So what could this possible Spark model be? We have a couple of guesses: An even smaller crossover in Chevrolet's lineup More fuel efficient version of the Spark Now we should say that even though GM has trademarked Spark Activ, it doesn't mean they will actually use it. The most important part is to pay attention. Bring the revs up to 4,000 rpm and sidestep the clutch in the 2007 Callaway C16 and watch as nature telescopes aft with exponential speed, as if someone had knocked the nut off some kind of hydrant and the landscape had suddenly begun to blow past you. Some 616 horsepower from a supercharged V8 has an uncanny knack for distorting the senses. Callaway Cars is well-known among Corvette cognoscenti for some of the baddest Corvettes since the C4 was in diapers, and now the 2007 Callaway C16 is the company's latest example of neck-stretching, head-turning Corvette performance. The Camaro convertible is off the table probably for a year as GM tries to save cash and claw its way back to profitability. Analysts predict U.S. car and light truck sales in '09 will be even worse than in '08 and the Chevy Volt and Cruze will have to succeed before GM can spend on such extravagances. Whether the Camaro convertible comes back from the hiatus depends on how well GM weathers the storm. If GM's situation improves, Chevrolet could return the Camaro convertible to its product plans for the 2011 model year, just in time to add a fresh new version of the car. http://www.motortrend.com/features/auto_ne...hold/index.html

Rumors of a V6-powered Corvette model have been floating around for years but weren't taken very seriously until Motor Trend decided to spend some ink on it a few issues ago and predict the six-cylinder model would revive the "Sting Ray" name. The model would basically be a Chevy-branded version of the Kappa roadster that GM has liberally passed out to such brands as Pontiac (Solstice), Saturn (Sky) and Opel (GT). Chevy's version would be different in that power would come from a V6 rather than an inline-four cylinder, and rumor has it that it would be badged a Corvette. But that is what GM is planning to do when the diesel version of the Chevrolet Cruze arrives next year. “There are a lot of diesel intenders and diesel-loyal people who are looking for a brand and vehicles to go after,” said Dan Nicholson, General Motors’ vice president for global propulsion systems to Automotive News. “They tend to be more tech savvy than the average customer. And they won’t stop wishing for a diesel. And we’ll go after those customers.” But one has to wonder how big that group of customers is. Considering a fair amount of …

Yes, styling, brand image and engineering excellence play huge roles. But, ultimately, the best selling cars are often not the most stylish, prestigious and well engineered. When it comes to sporty cars it is important that we recognize that they appeal most to younger people who are starting out in life and have limited financial resources. Before we get to making a car look pretty, marketing it properly and making sure it doesn't break, I believe that it is important that we define it in such a way that is is fast enough, agile en…

The Wonderful World of Oz By Bob Lutz, GM Vice Chairman | Link to Original Post @ GM Fastlane Blogs I just completed one of my better business trips! It was to Australia, always a favorite destination. Beautiful country and nice people… and also, happily, home of Holden and the internationally sourced product development team working on our global rear-wheel-drive cars. I have never experienced an automotive company, including my three years at BMW, that has so much passion for excellence and dedication to the product. It’s contagious. Oz is a nation where the “car-guys” (both genders) rule, at least at Holden. I just love the palpable air of the "we want to win" spir…

Saleen Camaro a Possibility? Steve Saleen (founder of Saleen Performance, manufacturer of limited edition, high-performance vehicles) in a recent interview with Road and Track Magazine hints that there may very well be a Saleen edition of the upcoming Camaro. Saleen has already had a hand in the history and marketing of the Camaro concept car, as the manufacturer of the Bumblebee Camaro car for the big screen movie edition of The Transformers. When asked of manufacturing a Saleen versino of the new Camaro, Steve Saleen is quoted as saying “It’s not legally official right now, but that’s what we’re hoping for.” Read "Saleen Camaro and 2009 Camaro engines revealed by Stev…

Some details: Fact: GM has approved the Camaro for the 2010 model year. Camaro will ride on the Zeta platform. Coupe production will begin in early 2009. Convertible production will start in late 2009. The Camaro coupe's program code is GMX521. The convertible's program code is GMX511. The camaro will be built in Australia. A number of key GM performance and manufacturing engineers have been relocated to Melbourne, Australia's Holden facility to develo…

Don't know if anyone has seen these, but I thought I'd post them. Here's one of the front that looks like it's from relatively early on: I think I like the headlights here better. Early sketch of the rear: It seems to be a little more round in all areas. Later one of the rear: I'm guessing the production rear will get something similar for the exhuast, and also notice it has a bumper.

Without the Tahoe, it would be 2005 all over again (and GM is one company that doesn't want to see that happen). The all new 2007 Chevy Tahoe delivers the numeral "6" (part of the "2006" ball that will drop New Year's Eve) to New York's One Times Square building, signaling Chevrolet's Times Square involvement on New Year's Eve. Chevrolet will launch the all new 2007 Chevy Tahoe that evening, raising a pair of matching Tahoes high above the crowd with custom 20' tall hydraulic scissor lifts as special musical guest Mary J. Blige performs two songs on Chevy's custom stage in the heart of Times Square. The performance will be broadcast live on "NBC's New Year's Eve Wi…

But it isn't. Despite sharing aerodynamics with Carnegie Hall, Chevy's new muscle-bound SUV is dead stable and…hold on a second while I pass this truck…requires nothing more than a few fingertips on the steering wheel to keep it pointed straight down the road. 73. We knew the Chevy Beat was making an appearance in the overly-named Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The new news is that one of its "triplet" siblings, the Chevy Trax concept, is joining it, as you can see above. The two are chasing/following Bumblebee down Philadelphia's Front Street. Proof of GM's new commitment to building more smaller, fuel-efficient cars, you ask? Eh, well, as you may remember, Trax and the third triplet, Groove, were not slated for production like the Beat, so this is (unfortunately) probably just a movie special. At least one Autoblogger is happy, though (raises hand), because Trax is the one he voted for last year. Transformers Live Action Mo…

  81. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com April 3, 2013 General Motors has been hard at work on the North American versions of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon and we know the trucks will be arriving sometime after the new Silverado and Sierra. Now it seems we have a possible timeframe of when these mid-size bruisers will be arriving. The Detroit Free Press recently talked with GM's President of North America, Mark Reuss. Reuss revealed that introduction of the Colorado and Canyon would be timed with the introduction of the next-gen Ford F-150, which is expected to come out around late 2014 or early 2015. “We are going to have a midsize truck that we l…

  82. If you have your heart set on getting a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette, you'll be waiting a bit for the chance. General Motors announced today that it has issued two stop-sale notices that cover 2,800 2015 model year Corvettes. About 2,000 Corvettes have a potential problem with the driver's side airbag which may have been not properly attached and could separate in a crash. Another 800 Corvettes sitting on dealer lots may have only have one parking brake cable attached and not two. This causes the parking brake not to be as effective as it should be. Now GM hasn't said if it will go ahead and issue a recall for these two problems. We'll keep you updated if they do. Source: G…

  83. This one goes out to Olds and ocn I thought this story was pretty awesome and entertaining. Coolest part of it all was that it was still using a manual transmission. I think a manual transmission would really help keep the enthusiasts, like ourselves, a little more entertained by electric cars. I know it would add to the experience so much more than just a straight auto that never shifts.. As exhilarating as the g-forces would be still being able to row my own gears in a performance car would be ideal. There wasn't much to read so I just posted it all: "It would be easy to assume the Tesla Model S is the fastest electric car in the world. The P90D ca…

  84. First let me say I am simply speculating and posting my thoughts on the issue, and that I have no inside info confirming this, just info/rumors that I have read. By now I'm sure most of us who have followed the 'GMX386' thread know that the NG Malibu has been cancelled and we won't have a new Malibu until Epsilon II is ready. I've been thinking about GM globalizing over the next few years and what that means to future product plans in general, and more importantly for this thread, what that means to the future of Chevrolet cars. First, let's consider the platforms that GM will have at its disposal upon which to base cars on by 2010: Note t…

  85. GM Issues Two Recalls For The Cruze William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 5, 2011 GM has issued two new recalls for their hot-selling Chevrolet Cruze. The first recall has 154,122 Cruzes coming in for an inspection of intermediate steering shaft covers to see if they were installed correctly. This is the second recall issued for the Cruze's steering. Last month, 2,100 Cruzes were recalled after a customer had a steering wheel detach from the steering column. Recall number two is for 120,295 Cruzes equipped with a automatic transmission. The problem stems from an issue where the transmission is in gear, but the vehicle shows it in a anot…

  87. February 13, 2012 - Drew Dowdell - CheersandGears.com Earlier in January of this year, General Motors' North American President Mark Reuss tipped his hand a bit with regards to the upcoming Chevrolet Coloroado suggesting that it would be a "lifestyle sport truck" in the vein of the Honda Ridgeline but with all of the capability a buyer would expect of a Chevrolet truck. Though the Colorado won't be released in the US until around the 2013 time frame, it has already begun being marketed in Thailand where it is available with a drool worthy 2.8 liter V6 Duramax. Now there is another one in the form of the RST (Rally Sport Truck) for the 2018 Tahoe and Suburban. But this special edition stands out for one reason. Before we get to that reason, let's dive into what the RST package nets you. There is no sign of chrome trim anywhere on the RST. Instead, Chevrolet is using body-color for the door handles and grille surround, and gloss black for other trim pieces. A set of 22-inch alloy wheels come wrapped in Bridgestone Dueler tires. Optional is a Borla exhaust that adds an additional 10 horsepower and more aggr…

Who here likes it? who doesn't? what was the best part about it? what would you have changed? General Opinions on the thing. I for one like the styling, the idea of the thing, but they failed in the execution, Basing it on the trailblazer(not that they had much an alternative) and releasing it underpowered in its first year with the auto only combination didn't help The later years LS2 with the 6sp manual was really cool, but they are still stratospherically expensive even today.e

  95. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com December 19, 2012 General Motors is moving production of the next-generation Camaro from its current home of Oshawa, Ontario to Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant in Lansing, Michigan according to a statement released today. GM cites “lower capital investment and improved production efficiencies” as the reason for the move. The Camaro is the only RWD vehicle built at Oshawa, so the move the Lansing Grand River to join alongside the Cadillac ATS and CTS makes complete sense. Also, the next-generation Camaro and CTS will move onto the Alpha platform which currently underpins the ATS. For the time-being, the current Cama…

The Silverado/Sierra appears to be going towards a more upright and boxy look than the previous model. The front end looks to be more evolutionary than revolutionary, continuing with the large, square headlights and wide grille.
