  1. Chevrolet's new Camaro is the last of the neo-ponycars to hit showrooms, and now it's finally possible for you to put your money where your mouth is after all those breathless "I'd buy one..." comments. Dreamers and real buyers alike can head to the new Camaro Configurator website and trick one out just right. The price of entry for a base-trim LS model is a mere $22,995, and it still looks fantastic – there's something about those black steelies with trim rings. A V6 that belts out more power than some of the storied V8s of yore while netting 29 highway miles per gallon is a persuasive argument for going base, though we couldn't help ourselves and wound up with a…

  2. All else being constant, a vehicle's size translates into weight and unwieldiness. But it's size also translate to interior roominess stowage space. How big, or how small do you wish the next Corvette to be?

  3. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 30, 2012 Almost two weeks after GM announced the return of the Chevrolet SS, Automobile Magazine got their hands on the first spy shots of SS. While we can't tell much about the front and back (GM has done a good job of layering camouflage on those bits), we can see the SS will be based on the VF Commodore. Also unknown is the powerplant. Chevrolet said the SS would come with V8 power, and the photographer noted a V8 growl coming from beefy dual exhaust pipes. There's a good chance the SS could use all-new fifth-generation small-block V8 engine. Source: Automobile Magazine View full article

  4. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 23, 2012 The brand new 2014 Chevrolet Impala will begin at $27,535* (includes $810 destination charge), an increase of about $700 from the outgoing Impala. Chevrolet says the base price gets you a 2.5L four-cylinder engine LS model. If you want a higher trim model with the 2.5L four, be prepared to pay $29,785 for the LT and $34,555 for the range-topping LTZ. Wanting V6 power? You can get a 3.6L V6 on the LT model for $30,760, and the LTZ model for $36,580. Pricing for the e-Assist mild hybrid model hasn't been announced at this time. Chevrolet says the V6 model will be the first arrive at dealers sometime in…

  5. If there's one car that's been crucial to GM's recent sales success, it's the Chevrolet Cruze. Since it's global introduction in 2008, the compact Chevy has had healthy sales worldwide and has also handily outsold its competitors at times here in the U.S. market. GM is obviously intent on keeping the momentum going and knows that the only way it'll keep making sales progress is to update the Cruze for the immediate future. So, it comes as no suprise a spy photo of the Cruze's upcoming refresh has already surfaced over on Czech auto website AutoForum. The spy shot reveals that the shape of the grille opening will be modified slightly and the inserts will change from the c…

Someone brought this up on the "old" C&G......I sat in my first Impala yesterday (LTZ, silver, with ebony leather) and was shocked at the (lack of) quality of the interior materials!!!! Although the black interior looked sharp, the plastic on the dash and lower door panels is a shiny, hard plastic. In fact, the hard plastic is so shiny, it contrasts with the (actually nice) soft plastic on the dash top and tops of the door panels. WHY can't GM get it RIGHT...???? AARRGGGHHH! AND, I actually really like the Impala overall....so this really frustrates me.... Honda, Toyota, and Nissan can now show how to do hard plastics that look …

  10. Chevrolet has been teasing it for awhile and at a event in Belle Isle - near Detroit, MI - Camaro Six or the 2016 Camaro has been introduced. Now if you were expecting a new style for the Camaro, then you'll be slightly disappointed as the basic shape is the same. Sure there are some slight changes to the front and rear, but Chevrolet played it safe. Don't mess with success. At least under the skin, there are some massive changes. The big story is the Camaro utilizing a modified version of the Alpha platform found under the Cadillac ATS and CTS. Chevrolet says the Camaro is 28 percent more rigid than the outgoing model thanks to the switch to Alpha. Also the Camar…

I've read a few rumors and seen one drawing that indicates that the new 08 Malibu is going to have quite an up-market appearance, and be the first car of the "new Chevy design" -- whatever that is. Anyone heard or seen anything lately about this new upcoming Malibu? I really hope that it lives up to the hype, because the current Malibu, however nice a driver it might be, just sucks from a style perspective; it screams "rent-a-car."

A new report says GM is prepping a lower-cost Corvette. Motor Trend is reporting that General Motor is working a low-cost model of the the C7 Corvette due out in 2015. The new model, called Corvette Coupe will be very different from the Corvette Stingray. For starters, the name will not have Stingray anywhere at all. The Corvette Coupe will also have changes to the front fascia and fender, and rear diffuser. Power will not come from the Stingray's 6.2L V-8. Okay, so here's what I'm saying... For the base model V6: 3.6L DOHC with VVT & DI Why? It's perfect. It'll be production-ready by 2008, it'll make enough power to annihilate Ford's most potent V6 up to date (3.6L @ 265 HP/250 TQ), and will offer good enough MPG/emissions to make even Honda buyers go American. For the smaller V8: I don't really know. I'd like to think a more up-to-date 5.3L than the current one with a bit more power, but I really have no idea. Ideas from you guys? For the larger V8: 6.2L LS3 with VVT/AFM I'd definitely say a 6.2-6.3L LS3 (whatever amount of liters it will be) making around 425-450 HP is very possible. Especially with how great…

It looks like GM might have been listening. We've now learned from three sources that the General's product planners are noodling the idea of bringing the "Ute" to the United States. World Car Fans shows the '08 Malibu? | December 17, 2006 | YellowJacket894 Recently, World Car Fans released a chop of what they thought to be the next Opel Omega. However, whenever I looked at it, I felt something amiss. First off, the proportions were that of a front-drive car (I.E. Epsilon) instead of rear-drive (I.E. Zeta, which a new Omega would be based on). Second, many things matched up with spy shots I, and you as well, have seen of GM's break through mainstream product for 2007: the new 2008 Malibu. Things didn't add up. So, obviously, only one thing made sense to me: WCF used and enhanced images of Chevrolet's new 2008 Malibu to produce their Omega render…

Unlike Ford which started focusing on lower-end models, Chevrolet decided to target performance-oriented models with high price tags. And they've done it. (Well, duh.. the Z06 goes like 197 doesn't it?) That's pretty darn good, and only 1% fewer than last year, when the Volt topped the survey as well. I don't get the attraction, but this has to be good for GM's public perception amongst the misguided.

They described the design as being bulky, 'not compelling', and looking a bit odd. If this was old GM, they would have gone forward with the design. "Back in the day, we would have probably just kept going," said Cieslak. "What we had on paper we felt was not going to win." But this being the new GM where bean counters lost a fair amount of influence, the decision was made …

  62. The next Camaro has a number of things that will be changing such as a new platform and a new place where it will be built. One item that doesn't appear to be changing as much is the design. Edmunds has learned from a source that the company is planning to go down the evolutionary route with the design of the next Camaro. "The difference between the existing and redesigned (Camaro) is not drastically different. It looks like a worked-over current-model Camaro. It is on a different platform, so that is a significant difference, but when they modified it to be on a different platform, the styling did not change that much," said the source. The Camaro is expected to debut…

It seems that the automotive press from what little they have experienced so far with the Malibu like it very much, but you can read that for yourself below... FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF THE 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU An estimated 20 members of the media — including car enthusiast and business writers, fashion experts, and an international cast of journalists — had an opportunity to experience the new 2008 Chevrolet Malibu for themselves last week, at the Milford Proving Grounds in Milford, Mich. Those driving impressions won’t be appearing in print until at least Nov. 2, but here’s a sneak peek at their thoughts: “This reinvents the value equation.” — Warren Brown, “The Washi…

As other people are making noise about leaving the car business or thrifting back their portfolio, there's still business to be had there. It's just going about the business in a smart fashion," said Steve Majoros, Chevrolet's marketing director for cars and crossovers to Automotive News. While the car market in the U.S. continues to shrink as more buyers go for SUVs and crossovers, it still represents more than four million possible customers and an opportunity for Chevrolet to intr…

Well I can see the Camaro selling well at first, but with gas at $4.30+ I don't exactly seeing it achieving those numbers. Maybe if gas was still at the $3.15 range... What do you guys think? Will gas prices make it go the way of the Gen 4? If Gen 5 fails, then I don't see it ever coming back.

  68. It is no secret that Chevrolet will be debuting a new Corvette ZR1. Numerous spy shots have revealed Chevrolet is going all out with a large rear wing, larger intakes, and distinctly shaped hood. We now have gotten our first look at the new ZR1 thanks to a leak. Corvette Blogger got their hands on a leaked image of Car and Driver's December issue which has the Corvette ZR1 front and center. The model matches up perfectly with spy photos with the various aero bits and large air intakes. The cover also reveals the ZR1 will be packing 750 horsepower, but we don't know what engine will be providing that power (our guess is a supercharged V8). Corvette Blogger also r…

  71. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com January 23, 2012 The Chevrolet Volt has been having a tough time in the marketplace. First was the Volt missing it's goal of 10,000 vehicles sold last year (only sold 7,671 vehicles) due to the plant being shut down back in the summer. Then there was the whole NHTSA investigation into Volt's battery, which was closed last week. Now there's another roadblock for the Volt. Automotive News is reporting that some Chevrolet dealers are turning down Volts. In New York City, GM offered 104 Volts to its 14 local dealers last month. Dealers only took 31. Even dealers that had no problem selling Volts are being more cautious. …

The same applies to cars. If you want to judge an automaker’s prowess, check their basic models. Scope the ones with standard engines and base interiors that hide in the back of the lots. Chevy abandoned vans when the original Venture arrived and the uplander combines ugly with out of date in such a wonderful way . Anyone here have a clue to what this is? Is this the long talked about and never seen Chevy 3 valve head? I posted it here as this was on the CamaroZ28.com site and they were all wondering if this may be a glimps of the future Camaro engine. If anything it is GM and a very interesting layout. Some over there were claiming red lines od 6,600 to 7,000. Also it was claimed to have the same low end torque as a LS but it continued where the other stopped. If true this would be a big jump over the Ford 3 valve. All of this is speculation from the Camaro web site and has not been confirmed. So just enjoy till we hear more!
