AutoGuide recently found two new trademark applications from General Motors. The applications were filed on December 16th and are for the 'Tourx' and 'Regal Tourx' trademarks. The applications say the trademarks are for “Motor land vehicles, namely automobiles.” AutoGuide speculates the Tourx name could be for a wagon variant of the next-generation Buick Regal. Well, I just came back from a 400mi trip in the Lexus ES 350 and here are my thoughts. 1) At 75mph, the Lexus ES has SIGNIFICANTLY more wind noise than a "Quiet Tuned" Lucerne. 2) The ES has a lot of road noise on coarse pavement, more than a Lucerne on any pavement I drove on. 3) Stomp the throttle for passing and the ES gives a muted howl, its much quieter than the Lucerne at WOT. So I stand by my words, the Lucerne is a quiet car on the highway, provided you don't get on the gas much. The Lucerne needs an engine as quiet as the Lexus ES to fit my definition of "quiet tuning."

Up front I have nothing solid here and this is only a small hint that something may be happening. This post is more to advise all to keep their eyes open nothing more. Sorry I do not have the full details. But I have herd from to unrelated people that something may be going on with the Regal or some other Buick beyond the GS. I was at B and N working on a paper this AM. After some coffee, I went over to the magazine area. I saw that Car and Driver reviewed the Lucerne. Overall, the review was positive. It praised the craftsmanship and the quality of the product. It seemed a little shortchanged on the power of the V8 engine. But, overall, not bad. We know from rumors that a GS variant of the next-generation Regal is incoming. But we have been wondering what would be powering it. Was bumming with the kids today. They had a new silver Regal outside the BPG dealer by the Sonic today so I stopped in. First off, let me state that someone must of lit a fire under the GM dealers' asses because the last couple times I have dropped by the Buick dealer I have been treated real well and the salespeople have been absolutely knowledgible (SP) about every aspect of the car. After many tries at snagging a LaCrosse from Alamo or Avis for a weekend, I finally succeeded. It was at the Alamo location at LAX. Interestingly enough, I had just taken a Friday off in Las Vegas where I had a Grand Prix, so I got to test them back to back. In short, I used to drool over the LaCrosse. Now, it's just a nice car. Chief among my disappointments was the purported quietness. Maybe this only applies when equipped with the 3.6 VVT V6. The Buick Envision finds itself in a tough spot. General Motors has been exporting the model to the U.S. since 2016. But with the on-going trade-war between the U.S. and China, it means the Envision could smacked with a 25% percent tariff. That is why GM is asking for exemption on the model. In a statement provided to Reuters, GM said that it filed the exemption request on July 30th to the U.S. Trade Representative. Buick's compact convertible, the Buick Cascada, won't be returning for 2020. Buick has informed dealers that final orders for the car need to be in by the end of the month as production of the car is scheduled to end in the summer. The Cascada is produced by GM's former Opel division, now owned by PSA, in Poland. The Cascada was Buick's first convertible since the the Buick Reatta. Approximately 17,000 have been sold since the car went on sale in 2016. From today's Detroit Free Press Meanwhile, GM has decided to add models to its Buick brand Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said. Well...all is now up. Nothing too huge for Buick, except that the Lacrosse is now the sole vehicle with the 3.8L and the Lucerne gets....the 3.9L and retains the 4-speed in all. Essentially, no changes, as we already know. The standard content has gone up to include the leather wheel, the tilt and telescope and a few other items. The optional package is $ 495, which includes (1) the folding rear seat, (2) the power lumbar, and (3) heated seats. I guess that's not SO bad, since the split rear seat cost $ 275 last M.Y. Comment on styling: the new front end is better but not THAT great. IMO, it is TOO tall for the front fascia and the chrome bars are too pronounced. Hey guys, I haven't posted on here in a really long time, but I'm thinking about leasing a new Regal and wanted your input. I'm most intrigued by the Turbo Premium II with Driver's Confidence Package--I think it has a good combination of looks, power, equipment, and luxury. According to Automotive News, Buick is to get a new tag line and an ad campaign to change perception of its vehicles. AN's website states, "Buick will get a new advertising campaign for the brand and the new LaCrosse sedan this summer. The campaign will have a different tag line, too, from Buick's current 'Drive Beautiful.' On the Buick website, the vehicles listed are....Enclave, LaCrosse, Lucerne, Invicta....not in future vehicles, but the concept does pull up. Think we'll get a surprise and it will be called Invicta after all? Hopefully...the ridiculous, meaningless LaCrosse name should die a quick death, just like the W body. Also, if Invicta is to eventually replace Lucerne, they're going to need something better than LaCrosse. I don't know one import buyer that would EVER consider a "LaCrosse". Over a week ago, we brought you news that the upcoming Buick Regal GS would be powered by a V6 engine. We now have confirmation about this thanks to a document from the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The Truth About Cars obtained a CARB Emissions document for the 3.6L V6.
